I saw GuildWars having PEGI12.

Personally i think all MMO's aiming at grown ups/adults should have a PEGI rating of atleast 16+.  Why?  Well, because its not healthy for kids to reside in a grown up/addult community at that age. They might misunderstand certain things from general and guildchat.  Now in Normal live, you can see who is underage and keep that in mind when talking trash and such things, but in an online community people often dont see that and talk like they do all day.

I.e. kids are much better of playing together with kids.

In subscription based games most kids never got to play because most sane parrents just didnt pay the subscription, but in these subscription free games its a whole different story.  Thats why these games should have 16+ rating, the influence on these kids from the online community is much worse then the little blood that splashes from ennemies.

So how do you handle these minors in game, do you handle them like you would handle your own kids (which is actually what they need) or do you treat them like grown-ups and dont care any further?

Having kids around requires a different attitude then not having them around, and this might be one of the biggest problems. and PEGI ratings does not take that intoo account.

1. You see almost no blood at all when you hit mobs.

2. Dungeons and other areas with blood/gore will be reworked.

3. Guild logos are disabled, probably till they find a wa to censore the "bad ones"...could also be permanent.

4. Other things maybe censored. Problem is that Frogster censored blood/gore without any announcements, a week before release. Even though they said weeks before, that there will be no censoreship or diffrences between EU and NA client. That's why it is hard to say what they are gonna censore in the future.

We are talking about PEGI 12  :/

Quite simple, they should have made it PEGI 16, children under 16 should not play games in an adult community, which is what the MMO community is. Its better for them, and better for those adults that play the game.

On top of that how many kiddos under 16 play a subscription based MMO with all these free ones available?

According to Amazon UK, the EU vversion allready has a PEGI 16 rating.  so why are they removing all these things?

I believe people like you are bending peoples words.

A statement like "hey this game has orcs, they are copying WoW"
Is not the same statement as "Blizzard invented Mmorpg"! I have never heard anybody claim that. Using your logic, I have seen similar statements from the GW2 community. "Raiding was invented by WoW", paladins and death knights were invented by WoW. Somebody even said WoW invented Druids on the GW2 forum. So....

Agreed, no need to make a dumb comment even dumber.

But orcs were in the first MMO as well.

Wow did invent space goats though, but I never seen anyone copy them...

but! they did copy the enemy orcs from Lineage 2... but it was probably the same designer >.< I couldn't find a pic to show because they have a race called orc too which looks WAY different.

No, i think thats how orcs look like in Korean fantasy. And thats where both these games come from.

They keep coming back to graphics because thats all they have going for it, and they insist that GW2 looks like shit.  I laugh

Both are graphically in the same leaugue, when you compare pixels/shaders/polygons/resolution with their performance.

TERA style looks great, but GW2's artistic style looks even better (personal opinion) its sometimes like walking in a painting.

Untill some months ago was WOW, in every betas.

I suppose from now one GW2 will take the place of WOW, can't wait to see who will be the first one to say "ANet invented MMORPGs".

haha, oh come on now.

I'm not joking :p I read more than once players sayig things like "Blizzard invented mmorpgs" "Hey look they copied wow there are orcs" "wow was the first mmorpg"

Ill say it, anet reinvented MMOs.

I'm playing the TERA beta right now. I suppose I'm technically not allowed to say whether or not I have played GW2 hands-on yet...

It's true that TERA is an "action" RPG because of the mouse-bound skills and crosshair aiming. However, in my opinion it still feels clunky. Your character still has to stop moving in order to use skills, and the mobility aspects of combat are skills unto themselves. For example, right now I have a skill that makes me jump backward bound to right-click. It's nice to have, but at the same time I wish that I didn't have to take up a skill slot with something that does nothing but make me move.

In GW2, combat mobility is more engrained. You can use almost every skill while moving, no stopping. So that makes it very fluid, and the enemies are tough enough that you definitely do want to keep moving around. There is also the dodge function built right into the WASD controls (double tap a direction to dodge roll in that direction.) And many skills incorporate movement in their functionality, rather than devoting a skill slot to something that only moves you. For example, Burning Speed on the elementalist that launch you forward and leaves a trail of fire behind. Or the ranger mainhand sword attack that reposition you around your enemy to avoid damage. There are lots of examples, since it's a very mobile game.

My levelling experience in TERA is rather uninteresting. It's a standard "kill 10 rats" grind, so far. Tons of running between NPCs who have question marks over their head, tons of skipping over quest dialogue, tons of faceroll grind. That's the early-game levelling experience.

By contrast, GW2 kicks you into the world and says "Here's your weapon, have fun!" The dynamic events are SO much more engaging. Even when, at the end of the day, killing enemies in a dynamic event is the same task as kill 10 rats's the context that matters. In a dynamic event, there is the aspect of a time crunch. You are presented with a win/fail scenario, and you know that the event will not still be there five minutes from now. So you choose to participate or not, and once you're in, you're engaged in the action. It's not like regular questing where you can play as I am at this moment...I'm supposed to be killing sick deer creatures, but I'm typing on a forum instead because I know those creatures will still be there an hour from now. They will jus respawn forever regardless of my actions. With a dynamic event, if you pass on the event, then you don't know exactly when it will happen again.

Very well put.
Since i allready experienced PvE and competitive PvP i am looking most forward to Wvwvw, mini games and personal story! But then i only have a couple of hours on friday to play

Are you saying there is too much talk about GW2 or too few?

There was so much talk about GW2 that it was almost painfull, if tera devs would have heard it they would either have cried or turned intoo GW2 plAyers

Is there much competition in terms or the 2 games?

TERA is being released and i for one ahave purchased both GW 2 and  TERA. Ive not got a gripe with subscription and for the little amount of money per month its not a big deal. As a game it would be nice if there were someone who has played both TERA and GW2 and id like to see what comparisons you could make in terms of what is alike, what is better for TERA and not so good for  GW2  (and also on the flipside).

Im not trying to create arguing i just wanted a general review from folks that have tried both out. Im tried a bit of TERA (time permitting) and thought it wasnt bad to be honest but ive not tried in depth at a higher level. Ive never tried GW2 though.

Tera got great combat and awsome graphics, but so does GW2, but GW2 has so much more, The only thing Tera has that GW2 does not havi is subs.
During open beta there was one topic on everyones lips even while enjoying the great combat in Tera. Everyone either talked about GW2, or started asking questions about it ( i was surprised that the majorrity of people didnt know nothing at all about GW2) there was so much chat about GW2 that it was Almost painfull, and that it made me understand how people coulb be offended by so much fanboiisme. Its about time to show the rsst of the world why we are so enthousiast about GW2

If there's not going to be a wipe at the end of beta, then why wouldn't the gold farmers treat it like live?

No there is not, people that pre ordered keep their characters

the game itselves prooves very much fun, espescially the combat...

But never before have i sees goldsellers active in beta. They where even offereing powerleveling to 60 for $650. And that on the only available roleplay server.

Next to that i saw an archer bot camping a boss spawnpoint.  (actually quite easy since the boss allways spawns on exactly the same spot, and the higher level archer was shooting her arrows (auto attack) straight through that spot, and auto looting.

Every game would have been better as a sandbox...

But in all my years of MMO gaming, there has never been a sandbox that cut through, good Sandboxes are incredibly hard to make. Why?  Well, because no company ever created  an AAA+  fantasy sandbox MMO.

Its frogsters fault, they could have put it up as a 16 year age restriction...

Its not healthy for kids under 16 to be in a community with mostly grown ups. with or without blood

I disagree with isometric view, it can and probably will have it's place back into rpg in the future. The big advantage is the clear view you just can't get from perspective, this mean you can have a huge amount of mob on the screen and still have a perfectly clean view and you are free to place your character where you want, the same setting in a perspective view (usual 3d view) and you will prbably not see half the mobs, and have no clue where to put your character.

Free camera movement and zooming out lets you create exactly that view in 3D games.

In an Isometric view, with no zooming, you cant even recognise the cloth and armor your character is wearing.

Diablo 3, is exactly the game they promise as it feels just like D1 and D2. No innovation gamewise, still fun to play for those that can stand the old fashioned gameplay.

To be honest, top-down or Ismetric view only makes sense for games where you have multiple units (RTS) to controll. And doesn't work for RPG's. (espescially not those where you controll a single character)

So if you're still have fond memmories of D1 and D2 as the best games you ever played, you still might love D3. But i guess for most people on this site MMO and RPG gaming has evolved intoo the 3D world.

Personally i think they should have taken the Diablo title and moved more in the direction of GW1 or DDO, with portal towns and instanced dungeons. It requires online access, so no use keeping it so old fashioned.

I thought my biggest gripe with D3 would be the lack of PvP and the addition of RMT.

Sadly this turned out not to be the case. The game looks to be more simplistic than previous games in the series. While the graphics are definitely better they really aren't where they should be at this point in time.

All in all if this were a game I could download for $2-$5 on my phone would probably be worth it.

As a PC game for $50-$60 ... lol theres just to much thats just better out there.

In any case what do you think the chances of Blizzard making a  port of D3 for tablets and smart phones are? Definitely would be worth playing on my phone for a few bucks.

Iphone would be to small, but it would make a perfect $5 I-pad game.  It would suit much better on that medium then on PC. it just feels and looks like Diablo 1, which gave me the same feeling as D2.

The isometric view is something that should have been left to rest for RPG's.  It hads it time, but it can not keep up with the immersion of a 3D game.  IF there was one thing they should have replaced it is this.  Its a definite gamekiller for me.

First a brief history of my mmo burnouts and the time it took to set in. WoW took me 3 years, Rift 3 months, SWTOR 30 days and now we arrive at TERA. After trudging through the tutorial, getting to the mainland and beating up walking tree men until I hit level 2, I decided I have played this game before.  Save yourself the $50 and wait for TSW or GW2 as they are both likely to offer something new to the genre.  So if you still don't believe me go ahead and download the open beta client and see for yourself. This game had already been in release in the East so how could anyone think it would be the next big thing? It's like WoW, Rift, Lineage 2 and Aion all wrapped up in one and you will be happier watching GW2 videos on YouTube... believe me.

TSW will alos bore you, only GW2 "might" give you a bit more fresh feeling. But if you are really done and over with MMO's even GW2 cant save you for long.

I couldn't get into beta today, some unknown patch problem. I spent about 40 mins in chat with support, but no go.

My question, hoestly is tera "better" (opinon yes, I want opinion..) than swtor ?

You cant compare them...

Tera has better graphics, annimations, and much more fun combat.

SWTOR's world is much more immersive.

To me TERA feels like i am playing Aion all over again, but this time with an hugely improved combat system.
