The F5 and F6 keys and more looking forward
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 5/25/13 8:02:34 AM
I had some insights about how GW2 will change in the near future.. The answer to keep people playing has been found by Arenanet.. the answer is collecting useful stuff... My guild occasionally play with some of the developers and they could not stop chatting about this stuff, they where really really enthousistic about this, as this would both generate them more money and improve the game as it would give people things to do at max level, withouth adding grind to the game as it will still be possible to stay competitive for casuall players.. tough hardcore players might get more options to choose from.
So how will these collections work, we will see that for example in the combat interface... you can collect temporary companions.. and make one of those companions summonable true the F6 key.. You can modify the skills of such temporary companion and you can buy skins in the gem store to change the looks of these companions.. Companions have 30 skill points and those need to be leveled... Companions can be used once every 2 minutes or so and last for 300 seconds You can collect skill builds and use them trough the F5 keys when using such skillbuild, you get 12 new skills on your bar and accompanying F1 to F4 mechanisme. You can access this mode every 20 secconds. This should somehow give you back the multiclass feeling of GW1. These Skillbuilds also get 30 skillpoints and they need to be leveled too. Good thing is that supposedly you can level yourself, a skillbuild and a temporary companion at the same time. You can collect multiple of these Companions and skillbuilds and level them all, you can switch them out of combat. they are not usable in sPvP. But there will be PvP mini games available in the mysts that allow you to play your skillbuilds.. and one that allows you to use your companions. Players can also use Supply in WvW and set their non equiped companions to guard keeps and such.
And yes you read correctly, i said 12 skills, because 2 extra skills will be added to the bar... which gives you weapon 1-5 and healing 6 to the left and 7-10 (4) utillity skills 11 elite skill and new will be the 12 skill which is bound to an equiped item. You can collect wonderous items troughout the world and equip them and they give access to an extra skill.. But keep in mind, that you need to improve your skills with such weapons by using them (i.e. a leveling system) And thats not all you get customizable weapon slots.. the current skills are available trough short clicks on a skill... the customizable skills on 2 - 5 are usable by holding the button somewhat longer. There will be a new craft that allows people to add up to 4 extra skills from a pool to these weapons.. These skills are totally not class based, but totally weapon based, so every class can use those 4 added skills.. there will be 12 skills for 1H weapons to start with and 24 skills for 2H weapons.. its obvious that 1H weapons only have 2 skills added. and 2H weapons have 4. On top of that there will be a new reactional button that allows you to react to things that happen in combat.. this would happen based on in combat events.
I dont know if all this stuff will be random dropped, or require certain actions to open op, or just be available to buy at merchants.. didnt talk about that. But i do know there will be a skilltree system in addition to current traits system.
there will be housing added in the next expansion, and trophies, collectable trophies that can be added to your house... Those houses will be part of the promised personal zones, that so far only are very vissible in the human story.
These things will probably be added trough the first expansion, and are currently tested internally by Arenanet.
On shorter notice, starting next live update, they will add story content to the gemstore, you can buy extra playable stories, the stories consist of like 10 to 20 chapters each and use ingame cutscenes and better camerawork and voice overs then the orriginal personal story. There will be 3 stories available at first but new ones will be added every month. The stories will have one dungeon involved each... from those dungeons there will be grouped versions available for free and these will be available to everyone, so the people that buy the stories are actually also paying for the development of the new dungeons, smart thing if you ask me.
The game currently is in a phase that it needs to generate more money trough the store to pay for much of the development. So we can expect more stuff like the story and the companion skins in the future. Every game needs to make money, and it seems GW2 is going to do it without I win items and buttons. So who did tell me that, i am not going to tell their names offcourse, so its up to you to weight the vallue of this information...
Never mind, just got confirmed it was all bull, a trap setup to catch me offroad by some guildies... Well, enjoy the read... its still there if you need to know the pranck they played on me.. |

As the major group of players enjoys leveling up several characters and enjoy the content, but they never touch endgame content and leave to other games and new worlds to explore at max level.
So the question is, how can a game sattisfy both groups of players.. because it requires a double investment of resources. |

The Whales: 33% of total in game spending for mobile and web games is done by the top 1% of new players with 90% of total in game spending done by the top 20% of new players

You cant compare spendings in a free mobile app to spendings in a free to play MMO.

If you could build your own MMORPG.....

The world design of GW2, with its Dynamic events... Scaling content, both on level as on groupsize The graphics and admosphere of TSW The questing system of TSW. With darkness and cruellty The humor of .... as long as its fun and there is lot of it... The companions and crafting of SWTOR The housing system of Wildstar, with trophies and collections An advanced version of the foundry like Neverwinter that allows people to create their own content. Diversity of PvP instances, like GW2, but with more diverse goals inclusing a zone that works like lol in 3D The solo combat of GW2 Advanced trinnity tank-healer-support- crowd control-dps Annimations on par with GW2. 6 man group size 12 -24 and 48 man raids Vanguards open world dungeons WoW instanced dungeons. A single player race.... Just humans Everyone starts out with neutral faction, and your choices make up for you final PvP faction different zones FFA PvP - PvE only - Faction based PvP zone - PvE zone with joinable PvP events.. The more fights you survive, the stronger you become, you could even become as strong as a Boss... but death results in loosing all powers. Oh.. and the stronger you get, the more XP you´re worth. And in PvP if to strong ennemie NPC actively start hunting you. Sepperately power stats for PvE and PvP. lots of mini games. Including a racing game. Jumping puzzles and other platform game activities (like climbing ladders/walls) Scavenger hunts A classless system with skillpoints and skilltrees.. No max level... but slowing down incredibly at higher levels.. The best items come from crafting... but require hard to get drops.. ie instead of going after the sword of truth, you go after the sword of truth and then a crafter improves it for you.. or the crafter could just create a sword for you from the magical saphire of the bladelord. and many many more things... |

Both sides allready have a healing and a tank class... and all 4 of them double as DPS...
Personally i am expecting some kind of controller class.... one with big guns... and the other... we will see.. One of them even might have a pet or two.
Only have 3 classes on each side seems to be the weak spot of the game, unless those classes are very very flexible and allowing you to shape them up as tools... |

I somehow hope that NPC factions will recover some of their importance. Its probably the thing that has been lost in time and not to return any time soon, but really miss the fact thatbasedon your actins you would be KOS or friendly with certain factions.
Or even a game where everyon starts out neutral and based on your ingame story and quest choices and other actions you get to belong to a PvP faction (not 2 or 3 available, but more like 7 or 10) and where it would be possible to even change factions based on further actions. A game where its possible to do evil things and become evil...
it could be so simple, just add 3 axis good vs evil, chaotic vs lawfull and Beleiver vs nonbeliever. And you would ave 8 factions. Add a poltical system that actually lets players influence political decisions, like making pacts with other factions... Would be even better if there was a 4th axis.. And then one huge continent for PvP with castles and resource nodes.

I'm so confused about how this game is thriving...

Originally posted by DanitaKusor Actually the majorrity of all MMO players never plays the endgame, they play trough the leveling and then leave, because they just dont like the endgame part.
All GW2 zones still have enough people to do dynamic events.. So people still playing them. |

I visit them all, because i am currently enjoying GW2, SWTOR, TSW combined with a little of EQ2, Rift, Lotro, Neverwinter, DCUO and DDO... i played all of them in the last month...
All of them are good game... and all of them have great and less great things.. But after some time in any of those games i start really missing things from other MMO´s .. and then i switch again.
Not that i play them that much, my total gaming time currently averages like 20 hours a week. |

Still hurt enough by the initial release that they dont plan to play the reinstallment?
This game is so off my radar, and i dont plan to play it at release, despite the fact that i have thox locked away somewhere deep in a closet... Maybe its childish, but right now i really dont feel like returning and reliving the world that was released in such a painfull state. Thats how bad it was at release.
I just cant live with the idea... i am sorry but this is the only company that somehow totally ruined it by me, not going to spend another dime. |

I have taken a little time to see all the Wildstar videos in their youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/WildStarOnline
And i have come to the conclusion that despite their choice for Pixar graphics and humor, the game is shaping up quite well. They have learned a lot from both GW2 and WoW.. and then added their own twist, and twisted it some more..
The Choice for the cartoony graphics style obviously allows them to push more and more diverse content then a more realistic game. I dont doubt that i will play this game for some time, but it might not offer me the immersion i want, tough it might actually offer me the fun i am always looking for. In those videos i have seen more and more diverse areas and mobs then in almost any MMo game out till to date.
We will have to see where this leads us, Group combat is promising (glad they stick to a trinity, with fps aimed heals and buffs) Soloing promises to give everyone what they want from it (except offcourse the sandboxers, but then this is obviously themepark matterial), Housing looks to be far and beyound what anyone has done so far. We will have to see where crafting leads us. I hope they can add the humor from the videos and trailers to the game, and make me laugh.
And about those graphics, the most succesfull MMO of all time had cartoony graphics.. so can´t be that bad, can it? |
|
|
Ita not the graphics that make a game come alive, its the annimations that are much more important in my book.
on top of that, while clearly a cartoony style, technically they make very good use of lightning and shadows. And the pixelrate and details in the graphics are actually quite good.
graphical style is a matter of taste, this style might be just a little to cartoony. But cartoony is good for longlevity, but by choosing cartoony in general its a statement that its more a game the a virtuall world. Many people have a hard time getting immersed intoo to cartoony graphics. But. As said its all a matter of taste and preferrence. |

what are your biggest gripes with getting into a mmo ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/22/13 11:20:16 PM
I recognise the problem from needing to start a new character at returning,,... Because playing a character requires a lot of automation, doing things without thinking. And that requires training.
Currently there are 3 things that turn me off and prevent me from getting intoo MMo´s. - Character animations are cluncky - Stories and quests that have no immersion - Combat is less fun

Will the game have trinity combat? will the main stor quests be fully voiced? will it be possible improve charactersat max leve? will thre be openworld pvp? will i be ale to switch paths or do multi paths on a single charter? |

Nothing wrong with such a server, except the fact that developing different server types is actually a resource hog... its expensive and does not pay off.

Please read up on the facts before posting nonsense like this.... 1/4 th of the open world is PvP... with the asumed size of TESO being twice the size of any previously released MMO (at release) you can asume the PvP areas to be huge... you´ll never have to leave them.
The only thing that we dont have in TESO is a full world of ffa PvP... and ganking in every possible corner that comes with such settings. |
