The buzz over Darkfall shows that players want a hardcore PvP game, where people can attack and kill people when and where they want. Where they can loot those players, and where there's actual player colissions unlike a lot of modern MMOs. Also players want to be able to dodge magic and arrows, which in most modern mmos is not achievable through player skill, only a roll of the dice.

Well Asheron's Call has had all of these things for 10 years now, and the servers let you in, and they don't limit how many copies they sell, and you can try it for free.

Darktide on AC allows all of those things players want, and a 10 year history of hardcore pvpers who realize no new mmo matches the PvP fun of this world. Sure the graphics are old and a bit blocky but that's a small price to play for actual working PvP fun.

Hopefully people will see this now and start giving it a try again, after all you get 14 days free anyways so why not?

Amen to that! AC pvp rocks.  I really wish they would make a proper AC2.

I don't understand how anyone could say the game has crap graphics because Blizzard just have done wonders with their art style I mean look at something like EQ2 and how dated that looks now and WoW is looking more modern and up to date purely because Blizzard put so much detail into their game.

I havn't played WoW for years but I was amazed at how good it is looking.

have you seen age of conan??? if not go look at my pics and edit this post.

Well a true test of the developers of Darkfall was how fast they could rebound from their embarrasingly stupid launch that included horrible sync issues and long downtime.  They addressed the problem and things are now very smooth and fun as hell, and the downtime was made up to use in the form of free play days.  While a temporary inconvienience, in the long run it will just be a distant memory as the game is well developed and a lot of fun.

Already have had numerous experiences within the first day of "real" gameplay.  While exploring an area not explored in beta, we came across a city clanstone whose marker was comming out of a mountain (meaning it was in a mountain).  After some searching, we discovered that you could enter from going underwater in the lake and swimming underneath it, or going to the top of the mountain and dropping in through a waterfall.  The graphics of this game are second only to AoC, and it isnt even close.  The animations still need love, but never have we had so much fun exploring.  They did an amazing job with the design of the world.

We came across a few red players attacking some allies in sort of a ruined temple type structure where some mobs have overtaken (may have been a quest area but not positive as we didnt have a quest).  We had about 5 in our group on vent, and decided to crouch walk to the side of this large wall and wait.  When we were all ready, we all drew back our bows (Except for one guy who for some reason is anti bow and arrow so he used mana missle) and turned the corner and took out one of the red players in one round of arrows.  Obviously he was already low on health.  We got a second round of arrows/missle off on another red player before they realized that we were here and what was going on.  We ended up taking the second target down, while the other one escaped.  We claimed our reward off of their corpses, as well as an alignment boost for killing red players, and were happy to find about 600 gold between then (assumed that they had got that over other players) a whistle (200g) and a crap ton of arrows.

So thats just two stories from day one.  Other mmos i remember killing 10 boars etc for days minus WAR where i was able to "pvp" in instances which was a little more fun, so being able to get some end game experience in on day 1 was very fun.

Anyways now that the "omg lol DF phail" nonsense is over, the game can now really start to shine and we hope that the developers solve their billing/account issues so they can focus on more content asap and balancing some of the stuff in game that needs it.

HAHAHAHAHAHA graphics are close ao AOC??? what are you smoking man?

1) World remains the same.  I don't really see your point, if you travel to a desert area the places available to you are all loacted within the desert theme. They have added some new zones which may help you out here. All the zones are very detailed, it's rare to find to same amount of detail in any other mmo to date for a specific zone.

2) Skills improve as you level.  Diversity comes at lvl 80 when you farm for your armor drops.  They have added some new "cool" armor sets which  you can pick up in one of the new instances/zones.

3) Still the same being changed in the next major patch.

4) You have plenty of quests all the way up to about 76.  They have added a slew of new quests, however, even before you really should never have ran out.

As a beta tester, i was one of many who saw this launch coming.  We begged them to delay and get it sorted out, and you better believe I am very upset with them for messing this up....they made a huge noob move and look pretty bad.

BUT

Just like WoW...they are admitting their mistake...offering 3 days of free play for the 1 day of delay.  Does it excuse them not being ready?  of course not....but it does show that they know when they messed up.

Fact is...they have released the game, and the game is still amazing.  The fact that they are retarded with their billing system and ability to handle the flow is a seperate issue.

So sorry if you are claiming "the skeptic were right"...no you werent.  The game isnt vaporware, it released, and the game itself is still the best pvp mmo on the market right now in the fantasy setting....they just are absolutly retarded when it came to how they handled billing.

This was expected though, as the haters were going to say they were right now matter what happened, so of course they are getting wet over this....pretty sad when you see gamers say "yes yes yes the game failed"....i feel bad for them.

Do you realise what you just said?

You begged them to delay the game but at least they admited there mistake by giving all players TWO FUCKING extra days???

So your saying they needed to delay the game by two days?????

You fanbois are hilarious.

Are you so quick to troll that you dont bother to read?

You really read my post as me implying they needed to delay by two days?  Yea the fans are the hilarious ones...what are you doing here again?

The fact that they are giving us 3 (why do trolls always change numbers to make their arguement sound more legit...maybe cause they know they are trolling) days just like WoW did on their botched release is them saying that they messed up and giving us something for it...obviously an extra day or two wouldnt have changed this release...they needed a new billing system all together.

Playing Devil's advocate here:

I think what he meant was that you begged for a delay as the game was not ready and needed more development time. They gave you two days to compensate for the launch problem but if they still needed time to develop, so what does two days really get you? two extra days of problems because the game was not ready for release.

At least that is how I took it.

Anyway, I hope it sorts out because I am tired of seeing the fans of the MMO genre being constantly dissapointed by bad launches and games being released before they are ready.

Exactly how i took it aswell.  I find it funny how all the fanboys go after his typo's instead of understanding the post.

Was in beta for a bit, I enjoyed it but I hate playing a game when my character is going to get wiped eventually anyways..

Now that I actually care about this game and care about advancing in it I thought id give my review of my first few hours in it..

It is the best MMORPG out right now, the game still has its problems, sound and animation being my two biggest problems with the game, the sounds in this game are pathetic, there sound guy seriously needs to be fired. Animation is disgusting, really blocky and slow.. again, a 12 year old could have done better with the same tools.

However the game does have the basics down for an amazing game if they can fix the smaller problems, this is by far not the worst release ever, This was NOT a controlled release and it was a European uncontrolled release at that, judge it for what it was.. the game runs better now then most games do 5 months after their controlled release, I have yet to crash once in beta and release.

A word of advice when you guys !finally! do get into the game, Don't judge the game on your first few minutes in it, when you first get in the game it will take a few minutes for your eyes to get use to something new like this, then your brain needs to get use to the fact that their isn't guards with a "!" above their heads telling you what to do.

If you just get into the game and go running into the wilderness you will get frustrated and confused, your best bet is to go get the nearest goblin quest (usually a merchant closest to starting area gives it,) then go kill some goblins, get some armor and weapons on your back, sell whats left, and bank the gold you receive. This is a PvP game, people will want to kill you though, so really watch your ass for some white/red conned players.

People will try to jump in front of you while you are attacking goblins, hoping that you will hit them and go white/red conned to them so they can kill you without penalty.. there is no system to save you from this, get people together in the area to kill this guy with you, chances are they want him dead too.

That is really the best kind of starter review I can give of this game.. Honestly though, throw every idea of an MMORPG out the window when you play this game, this is not a MMORPG in the traditional EQ/WoW sence, your main goal in this game will be to meet allys, kill enemies and try to stay alive. Some people don't like that, if you don't.. this is not the games fault. All games have their problems, obviously a game made by a Multi Million dollar company will have less, give the game a chance and stop harping on the small companies because they get a few things wrong..

In the end, I have my problems with the game but looking ahead I can see this game being the best thing that has happend to MMORPGs in a long time, I have not felt this way in a game since Everquest 10 years ago, the possiblities of this game are endless. Hate it or love it this game did nothing but good for this ageing genre.

few horus in and already think it's the best mmo.  Yes i will take your advice!

Well, after several hours of play last night, and this morning, I wanted to give a quick write up on how 1.04 has treated me...

The Good

The DT is worth it's weight as a unique class now. Watching how your health would rise up and down based on how you managed your attacks, positioning, etc. It truly was the most fun I have had yet.

Everything on, 8x AA, 16X AF, ATI 4870 with 512, running between 80-100FPS+...gorgeous.

New looting. Seems a lot of the crap from bags and chests have been removed with little collectibles. No more running out of space so fast while questing thanks to the stackable gems and coins. Very reminiscent of Guild Wars. Most chests also have just a main item in them...in so many words a green or blue, no extra junk.

GUI enhancements like timer notations on buffs and food. No food can be eaten unless you cancel old food.

New loot drops for various levels. New clothing styles were shown even in Global chat...start of itemization?

So much more, so I will not go on and on, but some great stuff here (I am not going to even go on about the questing now, which is a good even keel thanks to filled out sections (level 20-40, then 40-50, then 50-60, 60+ is all even with no major grind, and some fun quests as well)

The Bad

Always login and it is midnight and dark out. Crappy and annoying bug. But not game breaking.

Custom UI's broken, and because of this, so many complaints about crashes and what not were actually the UI breaking...caused an ugly scene in game and on the boards.

The UGLY!

Funcom still cannot release a patch without an issue.

DC's through the night (which I was able to alleviate thanks to a trick to delete the Shader.Cache.Local file)

__________________________________________

No matter how it goes, Funcoms issue with patches is truly a mess. I just wish for once they could get it right. Why? Because no matter the issues I experienced last night (none this morning except for the stupid "Midnight" bug), I find this game way more fun than WAR, LOTRO, EQ2, Vanguard, etc...

Funcom only shoots itself in the foot with each patch though, and maybe they do deserve such a fervent following of haters...yet, I cannot drag myself away, as I really like how the game plays, looks, runs.

Until some new MMO comes along, I guess I will stay dedicated for now. But, Funcom, please get some QA going before releasing these patches. This patch is a winner barring these stupid issues.

Cheers

They fixed the issue right away, you can't test server load on testlive.  This was an amazing patch, I dont see how some disconnects is shooting themselves in the foot.  The fact that people use custom UI's is not there problems, it's yours.

Champions!

COH rocked, they have the exp to make a great mmo.

I am a newcomer to Age of Conan (cancelled pre order after reading beta musings).I figured it was worth a go after reading all the new positive stuff on various sights.

I was expecting it to be a crash monkey with tons of bugs, instead I found a highly entertaining game with awesome visuals,a varied mix of chars and a nice lvling curve.

I have been playing online games for 10yrs+ (Ultima,Myth of Soma,SWG,CoH/CoV,many others) and I was really surprised how much I am enjoying this game.

The lvling is fast and does not feel grindy like many other mmos, nice drops, crafting is enjoyable and hardly any bugs (in my experience).

It seems like AoC has ironed out many of the problems it launched with and is on the way up,lots of new content is planned as well as PvP improvements, items, etc.

Sometimes you need to experience bad times to make you strive for the good times, seems Funcom is striving away ;)

PS Cant see how the OP can state AoC has the same exact format of every game out there, just that I never tried Conanquest,World of Conan,Conammer Online,City of Conan, etc.

Sounds like you're still in Tortage. Your views will change...

Oh snap out of it, did you even ever leave Tortage?

I agree with you Dread, i'm working on my second 80 and loving it!

Check out some of my AOC screens.

Tonight has been awesome so far, the game is a lot more playable now that ranged dps is a little bit less deadly and melee can actually play and contribute

Bright wizard zergs can no longer make impassible zones of deadly AOE, and the large scale battles are now longer, more involved and more gamplay-ey than before (I guess what I mean is we can actually play now, instead of dying so quickly without being able to contribute)

There really is both an element of group-play skill in the detail of the PVP, but also a large strategic gameplay where the clever guilds and players move armies around the maps in cool ways to make things happen and completely change the layout of zone control

The game also feels better to play, melee feels smooth and hectic now, it's nice :D

Apart from the KOTBS issue, I think class balance has taken a massive surge forward, making Warhammer the best PVP game there is :)

Aren't you the one who was crying about kOTBS? you mean before BW were nerfed you never rolled order on your server? yeah right. Continue QQ and all order will leave the game. what you gonna do then smart ass? you got so many OP classes but if Order gets one good class you cry bucket of tears and throw them on Mark Jacobs.

People like you is what forms majority of Destruction side. You are killing this game, but i hope you do it a little faster with your QQ so that we can all get over it.

One says looks good and another says looks bad. Variety is good thing ;)

I think i'm more surprised that they actually lasted 3 months.

Hey guys,

I took my screens of the final boss in the new AOC update.  It's a really cool zone.

More in my gallery aswell.

i wish Mythic would have made DAOC 2 instead of this.

Yeah i'm loving this game.  Don't listen to what people say, try it for yourself.  So many fanboys will say they played it (check out Getalife posts) when they never have, and say it sucks.

Wow...

This game has to be in the top 5 most boring, least intelligent and biggest let down I have ever played.  And I've played nearly everything.  This game makes WoW look difficult.  Asian Hack N Slash games are even more challenging.  But, the game being 3 year old friendly isn't why I dislike it.  EVERYTHING is bugged in one way or another.  The game is probably a year from being tuned to finish.  There are still items in the game for classes that have long since been removed from the game.

Quests make you choose a reward even if there is only 1 reward.  Boss mobs sometimes run off only to come back fully healed.  Targetting system is unreliable.  blah blah blah...I could go on and on mentioning every aspect of the game.  Scenerios, bugged... Guild system, bugged.... Alliance system, bugged...  Your mastery tree gives bonus to abilities 3 levels before you can even get the ability to take advantage of the bonus.  WHAT?!?!?

The community, you ask?  How is the community?  Let's just say, it seems that most of the gimps from WoW who have never played an MMO besides WoW are now playing WAR.

Anyway, I'm just a tad let down by this game.  Especially after waiting for 3 years and being a 7 year DAoC player.

I understand there will be a few of you that disagree and will choose to try and insult me in your clever little ways.  Feel free but the fact remains, WAR is weak.  It doesn't compare to WoW in PvE content and is laughable compared to DAoC in RvR.  LAUGHABLE!!

I think a lot of people are feeling this way, the amount of threads that bring up much of what you say is scary.

Conall Valley is very nice.  Check this place out:

I knew it would get a 9.0 or above, they really know mmos over there . Now will you trolls go away...it's official!

EDIT: all you guys coming in saying the game is not a 9.0...what level are you. state your level. the games excitement kick in for me at level 24. we had a few amazing keep battles, one lasted an hour. until you experience that i dont think you should be saying what score it deserve and does not.

LOLOL

"They really know mmos over there"

They gave Asherons Call 2 a 9.0/10.  That game FAILD, not only did it suck it ended up shutting down.  AC1 was a great game and it got rated worse.

The point?
Reviews mean nothing, if you like the game great, that still wont change my mind or many others.

Ummm from that post it sounds like you ONLY were in Tortage.  Please explain how gameplay outside Tortage magicaly changes.

very funny. aoc hate has grown old. if you have nothing constructive to say to the topic then piss off

Hate for this game company will never get old. My favorite zone was the cancellation page. Accept the fact that the game company you are praising has made so many "fans" that they themselves "pissed off" that you cannot hardly make a post saying something good without someone = A saying that it has to be a lie!! after all its funcom and that is what they do best or / B. someone coming to warn a gamer that might read the post falsely thinking the game must roczzors because of the omgleetwtfpwnbbq graphics hype drivel.

But I agree, the game LOOKS great. Shame it plays out differantly. I DID hear they were adding a new tavern in the Noble District though. Called the Empty Plate.

I guess you missed the fourm here, with posts from people who actually ENJOY the game.   It's people like yourself who:

A) Have no intrest in playing the game and
B) Troll the AOC Forums

I and many others enjoy the game for what it is.

Good question, personally Stygia (overall) has great appeal to me. Questing in those areas was top notch, I've never been into PVE before this game. Now I'm actually giving LOTRO a shot, though I must say I'm a tad dissappointed in it. Now I'm debating between SWG (hoth coming soon) or resubbing to AOC after only a few days with an inactive subscription (not that anyone cares :D)

I also agree with you Malickie.. Stygia is very scenic and has great atmorphere. It cracked me up bigtime first time I visited the serpent head tavern. the camel music in there is hillarious. So well done. LOL.

I think the music is some of the best I have ever herd in an MMO.
