I always figured servers marked as [RP] would be the same as the other servers, except that people there would be more immersed and more into their character, and it would be pretty laid back when it comes to "Oh yeah! Sure ill do TK with LOLOL i have to talk to my mom first for a second tho kthx!". Region chat would be active, yet quieter. But overall people are much nicer! |

looking for a skill-based MMO similiar to runescape
LFGame « General Discussion 7/10/09 2:10:36 AM
FREE REALMS is great, and its free, and easy to play (just visit the site and it will download on the site in a fun way). Very very new too I might add!
A lot of Free Realms may sound corny or kiddish, but I am 27 and widely experience with many MMOs and I must say there is nothing as incredible as free realms, its a must check out for all ages, and really. And it has many skills like Runescape has theirs. Very similar in that way, as well as member skills, which RS also has.

Also, i always loved SWG because there was MORE to do than combat. Well it feels like it at least. Space of course, and Housing...not to mention whole Planets to just immerse in! The community is loving and wonderful, and will go along with much! Housing was a big drawer for me ^^ looking outside my house while i'm having fun making it and unpacking into it |

I'm not sure what the other servers are like, but last night on Starsider i was walking into the cantina and a big group of imperial stormtrooper players had this big roleplay investigation going, lining up outside the cantina, and going in to fight rebels. You can have 8 characters in total, two maximum on a galaxy. If you want more, then you must pay another sub on another account (i know :P) It's a wonerful game to check out, I did the trial three years ago and loving every minute today still :D Negative Rumours and opinions about this game are typically false and come out of people who are "veterans" and haven't played in years. You'll have fun; very different from almost any MMO :) |

Now, Smedley, now! Now is the time for pre-CU servers!

I haven't had time to play this game since the beta, but I played SOOO much then. I am 26 years old and this is BY FAR my favorite MMO...on top of everything it's fun-loving, simple, and happy. Growing up is overrated I give this review one big QFE |

I no longer play SWG, but my kid does. He loves it. I need more pve in my life, but for a sanbox mmo, it gives him what he wants. SWG now is what you make it. There is 5-6 6man instances to run for gear, there is pvp areas and pvp rewards but the meat and potatoes of every person I talk is the fact they can create the things they want to do. For example, my son in an all imperial guild "patrols" mos eisly in his troop. They do events with story teller tokens, they do server wide events and he has a blast. Ive tried to get him into EQ2, WAR, DAoC, and multiple other games but the one thing that keeps bringing him back to SWG is the community. For me, like I said earlier, the pvp is pretty decent. But the PVE is like Warhammer. a few 6man instances and thats about it. Grind away endlessly for tokens to get gear to help you pvp better, yea same concept as any other game but the fact remains a game like eq2 has 10x the amount of content. WoW has less overall content then eq2 but tons more then SWG. But in the end, if SWG had the pve content I wanted, or at least more of it like things of the hoth, and ISD nature I would go back in a heartbeat. I played PRE-CU, I played CU1/2 and Quit with the NGE, but the game isn't that bad now. I would rather have the old class system sure, but the base game isn't the issue anymore. It has so much more content then it did in PRE-CU that I would play it over that anyday. I just feel as though right now it doesn't have the content to keep me going compared to current other games that combine pve and pvp.
QFE and And the game IS evolving as it goes. The population is going very good and very steady and people on their new servers are loving it. I see NO sign of it dying whatsoever...even when SW:TOR comes out. There will be different things there, and different things in SWG. I like SWG above things like Vanguard or Conan sometimes because the controls, graphics and general movement is so simple and do - able...and fun. you don't have to worry about a lot. When I play those other games, I'm just personally not a fan of graphics so complex and freeform along with the right clicking of my mouse to move and look around easily while I'm pressing W. In SWG, I press Q, W, and E and just move the mouse around...no clicking involved...the engine is so simple, but fun at the same time. I move (not click) my mouse to rotate the camera WITH my person moving along with it to look around and move around. And I talk to NPCs by clicking on them...and doing options with the ~ key. The best simplest controls in MMOs ever. The Graphics are fine... i don't care if it's not godly realistic unless its done good and right and actually makes you feel that way in that simple gamey way instead of pushing real life obstacles into it. Could it use some touching up to make it smoother? yes but as long as i can see/visualize a world that isn't entirely polygons, i'm completely fine. |

I really thought that Wurm was really unique, and definately worth checking out as well My big iffie on it was that it IS NOT 3rd person in any way. The engine is very interesting but very old. Otherwise, Wurm players, keep supporting the devs! |

Star Wars Galaxies: The First Rule of Star Wars Galaxies PvP
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/03/08 2:04:08 AM
I agree with him in a certain way, but what bothers me most about this article is that you have a hired reviewer on MMORPG.com being completely pessimistic on a game. That's just wrong to me. No duh guys, I know its a review but please have some sanity here. Star Wars Galaxies needs way more PvP attention than it already has, and in my opinion, Star Wars Galaxies should be run by another, more interested company. Everyone knows that, even and ESPECIALLY us playing it know as well. We play for the Star Wars world for the most part (even though its a horrible depiction, its the most freedom I've seen from any Star Wars game). Look you have 11million people playing WoW, and then you have all the other games. According to MMOcharts, WoW is 68% (something like that) of the MMO population. So counting all of the MMOs out there vs. that 68%...I would say SWG is pretty average. I visited Starsider server the other day, and several cantinas were literally PACKED. I asked and apparently it was like that all the time. Even looking at in-game events, I am astounded and might even call it above-average. |

I always thought out of all the games I've played, SWG has the most endgame x.x I quit TR for this reason though, but I hope to come back when there's some stuff to do, because everything else was pure fun :) |

I still play SWG and love it! Why? Because it's not only a Star Wars MMO, but in my honest opinion, it's still a beautiful game too. |

Man, don't listen to these guys, play a game based on your opinion, not others opinion. There's a free trial anyway. The community is filled with wonderful and nice people (at least on the 5 servers I've been on and tried), and the game is still great. People whining about what they want in a game should never put your opinion down. I've played SWG since beta -- and yes -- the NGE was stupid at the time, we've known that by whiners on this forum sucking their thumbs for over 3 years, but I grew to live with it, and by the time I realized that the only thing I lost was a stupid combat rework and time/"effort" sitting on my butt playing to be Master Jedi, I really began to love the game again. Could I live without a nifty title, two buffs that have Yoda's face on them, and a Jedi Robe that was made in Mister Rogers Neighborhood and still be happy? |
