I always figured servers marked as [RP] would be the same as the other servers, except that people there would be more immersed and more into their character, and it would be pretty laid back when it comes to "Oh yeah! Sure ill do TK with LOLOL i have to talk to my mom first for a second tho kthx!". Region chat would be active, yet quieter. But overall people are much nicer!

FREE REALMS is great, and its free, and easy to play (just visit the site and it will download on the site in a fun way). Very very new too I might add!
In free realms, you create your character by simple tools and name him, and thats it, you learn how to use skills or "professions" as they call it. And you can do them all on your own time, very much like Runescape. You can say "Oh, I want to play with my pet now and raise that up so i can do this later!" and then you may pass by a race track and say "Oh cool i want to go go-karting like mario cart on my own character!" or you want to go mining.. and it all has the same feeling Runescape does but more defined...where as you level you can look beyond saying "oh thats so cool i'm going to be able to make that later on!", or "ZOMG IM GOING TO BE ABLE TO COOK AN OCTOPUS HAMBURGER".

A lot of Free Realms may sound corny or kiddish, but I am 27 and widely experience with many MMOs and I must say there is nothing as incredible as free realms, its a must check out for all ages, and really.

And it has many skills like Runescape has theirs. Very similar in that way, as well as member skills, which RS also has.
The skills for free realms are all very unique and very different, just like Runescape, and you wont feel like anything is pointless, like many MMO "skills" sometimes seem to be.
Definately a must check out Free Realms, its not a big hastle to at all either, and very simple and fun to start. SOE did try to target the RS community after all with that game

Also, i always loved SWG because there was MORE to do than combat. Well it feels like it at least. Space of course, and Housing...not to mention whole Planets to just immerse in! The community is loving and wonderful, and will go along with much!

Housing was a big drawer for me

^^ looking outside my house while i'm having fun making it and unpacking into it

I'm not sure what the other servers are like, but last night on Starsider i was walking into the cantina and a big group of imperial stormtrooper players had this big roleplay investigation going, lining up outside the cantina, and going in to fight rebels.

You can have 8 characters in total, two maximum on a galaxy. If you want more, then you must pay another sub on another account (i know :P)
My first I rolled a Smuggler and a Crafter toon. If you switch professions, you will have the same level as you did, unless you are changing from a combat toon to a non-combat toon (or vice-versa).

It's a wonerful game to check out, I did the trial three years ago and loving every minute today still :D

Negative Rumours and opinions about this game are typically false and come out of people who are "veterans" and haven't played in years. You'll have fun; very different from almost any MMO :)

lol

QFE Moirae and Locklain

I found a walkthrough for the Aldera University ...all of the classes and experiements you can take... on Alderaan

If all of the players from WoW came, it sure would make me want to play WoW :)

jk :P

i'm not worried at all
a) there will probably be a lot of servers
b) the game will probably cost money
c) people (notice i'm not saying kids, even though it could apply) with an intrest in Star Wars usually do it imaginatively. And i don't see much imagination nor innovation with the base of the "WoW Community"
d) i can always go and run away to a Euro server, they seem to be nicer sometimes :P
e) aspect of story and roleplay. This isn't WoW, and I have a feeling WoW type players will be ZomGOgohganrwekganTHIS SUCKS after one day and thus only people who are cool will play it. And if there's some drama, that's okay, it makes me more attatched to the community if you ask me.

I haven't had time to play this game since the beta, but I played SOOO much then. I am 26 years old and this is BY FAR my favorite MMO...on top of everything it's fun-loving, simple, and happy. Growing up is overrated

I give this review one big QFE

It's been a damn long time since I've seen SWG on the front page though...

I wonder WHAT would happen if they said 'We're rolling back the servers to PRE-NGE and appologize.'

they would get 10k people to come back for two weeks.  They would lose the 40-50k people that play now and the 10k who did come back would quit in 2 weeks when they realized that by todays standards, the PRE-CU is a joke.  I no longer play SWG, but my kid does.  He loves it.  I need more pve in my life, but for a sanbox mmo, it gives him what he wants.

SWG now is what you make it.  There is 5-6 6man instances to run for gear, there is pvp areas and pvp rewards but the meat and potatoes of every person I talk is the fact they can create the things they want to do.  For example, my son in an all imperial guild "patrols" mos eisly in his troop.  They do events with story teller tokens, they do server wide events and he has a blast.  Ive tried to get him into EQ2, WAR, DAoC, and multiple other games but the one thing that keeps bringing him back to SWG is the community.

For me, like I said earlier, the pvp is pretty decent.  But the PVE is like Warhammer.  a few 6man instances and thats about it.  Grind away endlessly for tokens to get gear to help you pvp better, yea same concept as any other game but the fact remains a game like eq2 has 10x the amount of content.  WoW has less overall content then eq2 but tons more then SWG.  But in the end, if SWG had the pve content I wanted, or at least more of it like things of the hoth, and ISD nature I would go back in a heartbeat.

I played PRE-CU, I played CU1/2 and Quit with the NGE, but the game isn't that bad now.  I would rather have the old class system sure, but the base game isn't the issue anymore.  It has so much more content then it did in PRE-CU that I would play it over that anyday.  I just feel as though right now it doesn't have the content to keep me going compared to current other games that combine pve and pvp.

QFE

and
The community is wonderful and as far as an MMO, whatever drives me back to the game...even if I'm guildless in SWG sometimes and my friends are taking a small break...is the diversity of the content. Although it doesn't have cool content quantities, it has it enough where it counts.

And the game IS evolving as it goes. The population is going very good and very steady and people on their new servers are loving it. I see NO sign of it dying whatsoever...even when SW:TOR comes out. There will be different things there, and different things in SWG.

I like SWG above things like Vanguard or Conan sometimes because the controls, graphics and general movement is so simple and do - able...and fun. you don't have to worry about a lot. When I play those other games, I'm just personally not a fan of graphics so complex and freeform along with the right clicking of my mouse to move and look around easily while I'm pressing W.

In SWG, I press Q, W, and E and just move the mouse around...no clicking involved...the engine is so simple, but fun at the same time. I move (not click) my mouse to rotate the camera WITH my person moving along with it to look around and move around. And I talk to NPCs by clicking on them...and doing options with the ~ key. The best simplest controls in MMOs ever.

The Graphics are fine... i don't care if it's not godly realistic unless its done good and right and actually makes you feel that way in that simple gamey way instead of pushing real life obstacles into it. Could it use some touching up to make it smoother? yes but as long as i can see/visualize a world that isn't entirely polygons, i'm completely fine.

They should have a Star Wars MMO

It's always been my dream to make an MMO in the timeset of the American Revolution (the freedom would be amazing), or the Wild West (equally amazing freedom). Just so much you could do I LOVE YOU :D

I really thought that Wurm was really unique, and definately worth checking out as well

My big iffie on it was that it IS NOT 3rd person in any way. The engine is very interesting but very old.

Otherwise, Wurm players, keep supporting the devs!

I agree with him in a certain way, but what bothers me most about this article is that you have a hired reviewer on MMORPG.com being completely pessimistic on a game. That's just wrong to me. No duh guys, I know its a review but please have some sanity here.

Star Wars Galaxies needs way more PvP attention than it already has, and in my opinion, Star Wars Galaxies should be run by another, more interested company. Everyone knows that, even and ESPECIALLY us playing it know as well. We play for the Star Wars world for the most part (even though its a horrible depiction, its the most freedom I've seen from any Star Wars game).

No PvP activity though? I would think not.
At least on my server and several others, there are usually planned PvP battles once or twice a week. I play on a server that is usually VERY LIGHT too. If you're in a guild, you get a mail about the event on my server. To give you an idea, there were about 2-5 groups over time on each faction fighting all around Tatooine for 8 HOURS last night. 8 HOURS, and it never got boring or overpowering. This is the server that is usually very light.

Base busting and all of those things are true, and I'm not that stupid -- everything sucks, and it all needs attention. but I would like to know if this reviewer actually plays SWG anymore. There are plenty of things to go around, but I haven't had much fun in any other game PvPing. Although it doesn't have the population it had, its grown a lot since the NGE hit us and has become very decent.

Look you have 11million people playing WoW, and then you have all the other games. According to MMOcharts, WoW is 68% (something like that) of the MMO population. So counting all of the MMOs out there vs. that 68%...I would say SWG is pretty average. I visited Starsider server the other day, and several cantinas were literally PACKED. I asked and apparently it was like that all the time. Even looking at in-game events, I am astounded and might even call it above-average.

I'm not saying SOE rules, because the game needs to be given to a company where ALL the employees are interested (don't get me wrong, dozens of team members love SWG). If you ask me, most of the game aspects should just be regutted INCLUDING the graphics, INCLUDING the engine. Not turned to pre-NGE...just something new.

Runs fine for me :P

Virtual cards = helps prevent global warming

I always thought out of all the games I've played, SWG has the most endgame x.x

I quit TR for this reason though, but I hope to come back when there's some stuff to do, because everything else was pure fun :)

I still play SWG and love it! Why? Because it's not only a Star Wars MMO, but in my honest opinion, it's still a beautiful game too.

So what if we lost our precious virtual time sitting on our butts playing a game? Do you expect to have a cookie for that? Would you like SOE to make you a cake because they made you cry for over 3 years about it?

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I don't see too much of a difference in the big picture about a class system replacement as opposed to the game as a whole.
Could I live without an Elder Jedi title, two cute little buffs with a picture of Yoda on them, and a Mr. Rogers robe?? Heck yeah. All I care about is the big picture -- and I have fun with a great community and a great game every day.

Give me one MMO to try, and I'll assure you it does not have the spirit of Star Wars Galaxies.

Man, don't listen to these guys, play a game based on your opinion, not others opinion. There's a free trial anyway.

The community is filled with wonderful and nice people (at least on the 5 servers I've been on and tried), and the game is still great. People whining about what they want in a game should never put your opinion down.

I've played SWG since beta -- and yes -- the NGE was stupid at the time, we've known that by whiners on this forum sucking their thumbs for over 3 years, but I grew to live with it, and by the time I realized that the only thing I lost was a stupid combat rework and time/"effort" sitting on my butt playing to be Master Jedi, I really began to love the game again. Could I live without a nifty title, two buffs that have Yoda's face on them, and a Jedi Robe that was made in Mister Rogers Neighborhood and still be happy?
Of course I could, what kind of person wouldn't?

SWG is a Star Wars MMO. That does it for me right there personally. I don't give a hamster's butt about the combat system if everything else is in perfect check, which what people don't realize, it is.
Star Wars Galaxies has many things that many MMOs lack to have. For instance, a perfect community on all the servers I've played on, a practically limitless Star Wars universe -- meaning both land AND space content, unique skills and paths for everybody (such as combat entertainer/entertaining entertainer), HOUSING & CITIES (and player vendors/shops -- that's big for me), a cool "storytelling system", an incredible way of styling PvP bases (player/NPC) zones and factions, a very neat trading system...it goes on.
You have freedom in that game -- lots of it -- and not much people who used to play Pre-CU realize that. Those of them who do have come back already or coming back. Beyond all of this, it's a well done Sci-Fi that has absolutely nothing to do with Earth getting destroyed or taken over. That you cannot beat.

SOE has been positively recovering from the big NGE "oopsie!", and seeing great feedback from the players is overpacked after every Game or Chapter Update.

If you were to ignore everything you've HEARD about this game and decided to go by what actual PLAYERS (not "vets") said about it, your opinion will become a fact.
I hope you can try it sometime!!

I did that once, and only played it a few days out of that month lozlzzlzlz
Try out Runescape. It's a Java game, but it's badass for a Java game.
It's really great fun and something to try once in your MMO life.
