Sadly there is not much you could do right now - the dmg has already been done.   And its not fair to paying custimors to keep changing the basics of a game every few months - just because it wasn't ready on launchday.

But... What would I try to do ?

First off.  I would build up a game that rewards you for advancing your character.  AOC does not atm.  Best ways of doing this is.

a)  Make armors and stats more desiarable part of Lvling

b)  GIve great rewards to ppl for teaming up.

c)  Create a game that is not driven by gold drops but by items and other rewards (including orginal mount)

d) Make a solid endgame content with visible goals that are still fair in terms of time and effort spent.

e)  Make a guild system and player city system that actually rewards the whole guild for taking part in the diffrent content ingame.  Do pvp to gain new special guild ranks and look of your own city to make it more live.  Make a PVE loot awailable in high end raiding to make your cities become more powerfull both in terms of buildings, items, mounts, and looks of items. 

f)  Make it desirable for other players to visit other player cities.  In other words.  Make cities become alive.  This can be done by selling special disireable items in the cities (Guild will benefit in terms of gold.

All in all - What I would do is to try to do EXACTLY oposite to what all other MMOs are doing.  I would try to bring PVErs and PVPers closer to each other.  Making it so that both parties benefit greatly for working together even tho they dont like the other way of playing to much.  AOC had a chance to do this but failed terribly.  They split PVP and PVE up to totally diffrent game - just like WOW did. 

Strongest guild on any sever should have both PVE and PVP players that build up the guild.  It doesn't have to be the same players doing both since that would be very time demanding.  But it would still be possible if ppl dont have any life anyway.

Now to the real problems of this all...  The classes and their abilites...  Sadly they are simply not up to any standard of beeing acceptable for be able to create this kinda gaming world.  PVP focus has now made pretty much all archbuilds work exactly the same - making PVE raiding content both dull and plain boring.  And like said before - the game simply can not at this stage change anything more in terms of classes since they have already pissed half of the ppl with the nerfs/buffs already....

So sadly - AOC has in my eyes been doomed to endless solo content / PVP oriented pointless character and guild advancing system that everyone - other than few fanboys will not enjoy for more than 1 month at the time.  The rest of the content will not get anyone hooked beyond that.

And then to the main conserne that is the fact that AOC is build for XBOX - not for PC gaming.  This means that player interaction in the game will ALWAYS be at the minimum and will in the end doom the game to just another single player game.  There can never be a real comunity in a MMO where ppl dont have the ways to interact.   XBOX controls DONT offer this and therefore turn ppl into the same lvl of comunicating as Apes or dogs.

Get you facts straight... AoC is rewarding diminishing PvP XP return... Meaning if two buddies like you describe fight eachother. They will only get XP with the first five kills of eachother (and in a diminishing fashion). The sixth kill is 0 XP. Also 0 XP for people 7 levels lower than you.


 

And you got the fact that a whole guild disbanded themselfs to be able to kill each other doing it in TURNS to prevent this diminishing penalty ?

Stocks of Funcom went down by 14% today - under 7 NKR ps.  This is all time low for the company and is down by over 85% since launch of AOC.  Then stock price was over 55 NKR.  This is not good news for current players considering the big PVP patch last week that was supposed to have positive effects on both AOC and the status of the company.  Sadly it seems to have gone the other way around.

It seems like server merges are inevitable and question is if Funcom really can keep full staff on this project considering the bad publisity and huge downfall in the last 4 months.  Not to mention that still another two big time MMOs are releasing expansions within the next 3 months.

Overall... Pretty good news for custimors that want to see a finished product when they buy a computer game for their hard earned money.  I think maybe devs and publishers are getting the point.  At least the investors are.

Last night i sent a tell to someone i saw, to see if they wanted to duel. We dueled a couple times, then partied up.

But then theres this fraps video of the looser-guild on our server, and they are dropping guild, taking off armor, and even crouching down (so they die faster), to allow each other free kills.

Funcom, if you want people to behave in a certain way, you REALLY need to implement game mechanics to prevent this crap.

What is this video showing other than pointless Zerging ?  Or you consider PVP to be 40 vs 40 and noone dying ?

YOu use strategy to counter the enemy - If you have area of 1000x 1000 yard then the point of running into where the oposition is strongest is very pointless.  WAR RVR is very strategic compared to AOC and Im free to point that out here (waiting atm to get on my server since its full).  I have not made up my final judgement on the overall game but so far I like most of what I see.

I also liked alot of what I saw in AOC for the first week or so in beta.  But then you start to find out the real issues and how things that u expect to be fixed are left unfixed for not days, not weeks - but months.  Then its time to move on and admit that a Siege battle that still is very much broken in terms of performance will not get to any lvl of strategy thinking unti at least one year after the huge performance issues have been fixed. 

Many of the issues in AOC pvping is still for all to see.  A video showing a zergfest in lowest quality, without sound does not change that.

Sorry Avery you will never get me to say that Siege battles in AOC are anything other than badly thought out ganking.   It is not based on the concept of siegeing at all.  Its just another PVP gank battle that you can do now anywhere at any time.

The making of player ciites in AOC is yet another example of how badly this game has been developed.  THey are pointless, worthless and totally dead places that noone visits.  They are as far from beeing the center of guild structure as possible.

Im not gonna go into the same basic argument of the overall siege battles regarding the overall basics of MMOs politics and the fact  that only  portion of player base enjoy it  very rarely.  And the devs are spending how much time and effort on it ?

Sorry AA but if I want to get PVP points for killing ppl then there is no need to spend extra money building up something worthless -standing out in the middle of nowhere.

But if I wanted to do proper PVP with at least some strategic elements I would go into 40v40 AV and enjoy myself 10 times more than what one spot full out ganking in AOC sieges are.

I also recoment you try out some of the RVR in WAR if you want to see some strategic PVP.  It even has working PVP weapons you know ....

Well I have a news flash....nobody cares. Any prospective AoC players have already tried the game. Some stayed, most people left. If you do not merge your servers or give free character transfers you are hurting your existing customer base. It really confuses me how nobody at Funcom can actually see this. There are obvious issues with both server merges and free character transfers.  That is the highly PRed up player cities and Siege battles.  Merging servers means some ppl will loose their cities.  Free character transfers will be from one server to another (not the other way)  so they are litterally killiing of the guilds on the server that ppl are transfered from. 

This is a huge issue for many that have spent both money and time building up their guilds. and cities.  They dont want to loose their work - but they also expect that Funcom would be able to build a game with enough ppl around on each server in the first place.

This issue is not solved any time soon.  If Funcom is gonna be trying to find a workable solution that keeps ppl happy - then it will always take at least 3-5 months.  If they are gonna merge now without giving those ppl that will be loosing their cities any form solution or compensation -  they will just be making more players unhappy and more ppl will quit cause of this. 

Once again - Launching half finished game that is in no state for release is not good.  I hope MMO devs are getting the picture now.   Funcom hopefully has  -but I really dont care if they go bankrupt cause of it.  THey really deserve to be hit hard for their total lack of respect to custimors in the first place.

Fixing one thing is ok - but when it breaks another one like 2.0 patch did with PVE is not what ppl are paying for. 

The goal of Funcom in 2.0 was obviously NEVER to bring out a patch that would be acceptable to balance of both PVE and PVPers.  Their goal was not to provide good and balanced experience of all players and thats make patch 2.0 a total failure. EVEN tho that PVP is said to be "fixed".

Making half of the paying custimors happy and then pissing of the other half of paying custimors is not sign of good gaming development.  It is a sign of bad one.  But then - what can you expect when a game is launched in a half finished state in the first place?

And then offically stating that the increased activity on the Forums is a sign of good patch when alot of PVEers are pointing out what got broken...   Enough said...

THere are defently alot of issues coming up with the current basic idea of PQs.  Hopefully Mythic will do abit more coding to make it work for less amount of players and make the rewards better for taking part. 

About sever population.  Yes - that is a huge problem atm.  Obviously something went horribly wrong when making the Order classes intresting enough.   Maybe the look and the animations are enough to push ppl to the dark side.  Cause lets face it - all the bad guys look alot better than order does.

Poor games need to be advertised as something diffrent than they actually are.  Simply because the actual players are not spreading the good news how good the game is.

Alot of ads also give false impression of finanancial status and fools investors into buying into what they think is a strong company.  I think we all know the real state of FUncom atm tho.

Serioulsy AA.  Its a total disgrace for MMORPG.COM to have a person that is directly LYING about the state of teh game be called game correspondent.

This video IS speeded up.  End of discussion.  That is a fact.


 

IT is not sped up it is the actual game - its fast - its faster than most other games PvP and its in Real Time.

Its not even my video, I linked to the thread where parts 4,5,6 were posted I put them together. Its the normal sped - anyone who plays the game knows that, something which you don't.

Please don't take the topic to dx10, this is about a Siege that went smooth"er" from the latest patch.

Bring forth your evidence to the contrary mate or do one- simple as that.

 

Now - before AA makes total arse of himself. Just look at the long CD spells in the action bar and compare it to reatlime playing.  There are some 1 min CDs there that show pretty well how fast it has been speeded up.

Indeed, but again the original quote is not on server merges. There were questions posed to the developers at the recent Dragoncon panel. You can find the log here.

I understand there is a lot of feedback on the subject but the idea of taking a discussion on character transfers and conforming it into server merges is not the intention of the original post.

I guess u also assumed that DX10 was in the game at launch cause the "facts" came from Funcom ?   Maybe you missed the other "facts" that said there was simply no way it could be in.  But then again - u pick the facts that suits your opinion.   I dont need to proof anything in this case.  Other than state the obvisous about something that AA have tried to do before.  If you need "facts" then go look for that post.  If not then plz just belive your version of "facts".

There was no change in this video, its is exactly how you see it. I don't need to Doctor anything to show how much its improved people can see that for themselves.

No speeding up, the occasional slide was lag spike. Also addressed in feedback.

Sieges are not as borked as people think, all elements have been working for a while now. I can understand, some people might be a bit upset because they run pretty smooth now and therefore call me an employee / names and say I doctor'd the vid. Non of it true btw.

The only Doctor in there was the 2nd piece of music from Doctor Who :P

Yes full on sieges happen, not as often as usual, but they do and I encourage you to check out the server specific forums on the official forum - again if you have access..

Obviously a lot of you don't play anymore and don't have access to the test server forum here are some quotes directly from the feedback thread.

If I had doctor'd it the sliding would of been out and I wouldn't of linked to the feedback thread showing the positive and negative parts - makes sense some people couldn't read them and just came in for a bash.

Yes this was on the test server with the new patch less than a week before it all got put on Live - I have more footage coming from different people from live sieges that have gone on this weekend and already have some - shows just the same thing.. Its much much better than it was.

 

It was fun, the clinet ran really well with my 8600 gs (When i restarted i had a 20-25 fps, I had one mem crash.

What needs to be fixed

- Rhinos/Mamoths need to do alot more dmg atm there doing 600-700 while the seige weps do somthing like 36.6k what takes 3% of.

- PvP points are really low like 1PvP exp per kill, Give us a buff or somthing to increase the PvP exp during a seige, It'd make seiges more fun and alooot more reason to do it

- I dont see the point in getting more points than the other team, It doesnt matter if you get more the only way to win is get the keep.. that needs to be changed in some way or form to make points more usefull in a seige.

A quick side note:

I'd like to see an improved Hide for rogues in seiges esp assassins it's almost impossible to use hide and could be used as tatics to flank/ambushes.

 

 

 

Great fun again, two things:

- Using tab to target players was extremely hard, as buildings and pets would almost always be targeted first.

- Pets became green named and unattackable, melee worked on them but spells would just register a 'No target within range' message. I think it's due to distance - target moves too far from the 'master'.

 

 

 

Agreed! Everything was silky smooth except the tab targeting. I'ts not only about the buildings. The current tab targeting system is just not built for massive pvp at all.

 

 

 

I really enjoyed the siege. I was on the defending side.

My only complaints would be:

1) As a Ranger it is impossible to shoot the attackers from the guard towers or surrounding walls, so it felt as if there was very little advantage to defending.

2) With all the action going on around, its very difficult to pick targets from a distance, especially when the auto-target and the tab key selects the buildings.

Other than those two problems and my lack of skill, I had a really fun time. Thanks.

 

 

 

I was on defendign side.

-Ran Smooth. Latency stayed below 180 for me at all times.

-Fps was great, max settings held around 40-50 fps, I use to get 20-25

-I think there should be a range bonus when standing on a wall or tower for ranged weapons and spells.

-I watched 2 rhinos attack the wall, they did do damage but it was very minimal. Good or bad IDK, just saying what i observed

-Only problem that i found which im not sure is working as intendeded or not, The defenders dident get points during the match for killing enemy players, I Watched 3 enemys get ganked and killed and our siege score dident go up.

-Also some defenders dident get creit in player scores for killing a enemy player. I myself Killed a player just as rezed and entered inside the keep. I hade no help killing him and when i got the kill it dident register under player scores in the siege pvp score window. It still did log under my Kills/deaths tho.

 

 

 

Hey Everyone Overall I think that the Siege went real well today. Here are some things that I noticed. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and many others could see differently.


PROS

-The change in pvp dmg is great!!

Will allow for guilds to use tactics which will make sieges a lot of fun. Having different battles lines will make the overall battle siege just better. Yes its harder to kill people now but thats the point. Your going to need to use tactics to kill targets effectively. A backline of 4 Archers can down a person in a matter of seconds. While your other dps targets are taking down healers. The change in dmg will make pvp skill based again a huge improvement!

-Huge increase to FPS and my game did not crash once. I do have a great computer but it was nice to be able to run the siege with no lag at all.

-Treb dmg seems to be pretty balanced as trebs should do more dmg than most about everything else on the playing field. Why? Because they are a Siege Weapon.

- Every Class seems to have a place in siege battles. Yes even the guardians who have been brought down to the lvl they needed to be.


CONS/Bugs

-Necro pets turning green.

-Caster classes being able to hideout inside of buildings and cast to the outside. They should not have line of sight to do this.

- People were hiding inside of the trebs unable to be seen while dmging it. Players being able to run straight through trebs like they were not there was causing some issues.

-Targeting system is a little crazy and would be great if it could be tweaked a bit.
