There was same chance they would get a person to Mars as getting DX10 into the game. The close beta testers knew that but were not allowed to talk about it. Yes - its actually quite funny to think there was the same chance ... It will help you get the right picture about PR and the truth when it comes to watching what Funcom said and what was actually going on in closed beta at the time. But there was no miracles involved l8ter on. Cause then... we might have a man on Mars already. |

There was a miracle patch in beta. Accept it and move on... Don't care what the game state is now, there was a patch that doubled everyones FPS and fixed numerous graphical bugs and gliches. So no they aren't lying when they say that there was a miracle patch. Also maybe they lied their way into selling all those retail boxes, but the fact is that they sold around 500k copies in the first week (or was it two?) and that makes AoC a game with one of the most successful MMO launches in history of MMO and that is a fact. Doesn't matter how the game plays for you or how you feel about AoC, those things they said in these quotes are facts and they weren't lieing about it. No need to bash everything about Funcom, that makes you people worst then they are.
Its still pure PR and you know it. And you also know that 500k sold boxes was because of PR - not because of the quality of the game. There was no miracle patch. They removed the debugger like has been stated above by another poster. OFC that increased the FPS - but it did not fix the memory leaks for alot of ppl - and if you care to read then you might notice that last few patches have been causing new memory leaks for new ppl that were able to play before. Now - thats bad programming in the first place. It has nothing to do with miracles. |

What problem? I pay for what I enjoy, and pay more for things I enjoy more. Right now I find that overall computer games are in a true golden era, with an extraordinary array of fantastic experiences on offer. And they are getting better. The games on offer to me today are amazing. Some are more amazing than others. There are many problems out there, and in my life. Gaming is not one of them. By contrast, it offers me great pleasure for relatively small financial outlay. Funcom is not walking all over me - how ridiculous. It is offering me a service I can choose to pay for or not. In this case, currently, I see a service I am enjoying and therefore choosing pay for it. If you don't see a service you want to pay for, what's the problem? Do something else. Start your own company and make your own game. Whatever. I take my hat off to the developers. They have done extraordinary things in recent years, and I have enjoyed them immensely. Everyone is allowed to have their opinions. Your opinion doesn't make others opinions any less valid - or vise versa. Your happy with the content. Other are unhappy with the content and features that are MISSING from the game. Content that the same developers you praise said would be in the game at release. And they said so two weeks before launch. Now... Like I said - ppl are allowed to have their opinions. You have not given any opinion on the 75 silver from 2 gold so I dont even know if you have got a character to 40. Or even if you agree with me that giving ppl the ability to ride a mount at lvl 40 and then litterlally pushing them into goldbuying (if they wanted mount before lvl 60) is not the best way to get rid of goldfarmers ? All ppl with tiny bit of brain capasity could see this. But Funcom.... Nope it took them a month. And at that time they probably spent more effort in dealing and banning goldsellers and farmers than actually fixing the game - JUST because they dont know the basics of supply and demand. But hey - what can you expect when the game has no economy system. |

The real downsite to WOTLK expanison is that actually doesn't bring out anything new. Ok - 1 new class that is more likely to create problems that have positive effects on class blances. Flying mounts were HUGE factor in TBC and gave the game new drive. Sadly there doesn't look to be any that lvl of New in this WOTLK. |

If you want to see an epic fail of a spell system - then just go play AOC. EVERYTHING you do means you have to stand still. Every single cast. And the so called spellweaving ? lol its a joke. I hope we see many spells and features that you can cast on the move. Not all - but at least some that make the overall gameplay feel more alive. It simply has to be like that. WOW has taken this feature to new lvls both in PVP and PVE. Its all about movement and using the character ability. If the so called "next gen" MMO does not include this feature.... Well... then it simply is NOT the next gen MMO. Its that simple. |

I know you probably made a mistake.. but how can I give you any credit when at the end of your reply, you claim that I said WAR is like WoW. Because... I mean, you even quoted my post.. I obviously didn't say that. I'm not going to repeat what I said.. However, it is obvious that I was speaking of the typical gamer mentality after the emergence of WoW.
Don't give me they are playing for their first time BS. I played AoC PvP weekend for my first time and I was still able to use several different spells and abilities consecutively. The first time I played WoW, I actually did fairly well. I mean, anyone playing there probably has some sort of video game background on a PC. They've probably played a game where you actually had to move your mouse and press buttons. No? Does every person that goes to a convention only know how to press 1 button? Are they forced at gunpoint to a 1 button maximum? Please.
First off, WAR is not putting emphasis on graphics. They are doing massive RVR battles, meaning 80+ people in one concentrated area all using flashy skills; they can't do graphics high end, and expect people's (average person) computers to be able to handle such a dense amount to process. And yes, I made a mistake. However, what I meant to say was, you can't compare WoW's model to texture to this game yet, because all we've seen is low-res textures. Chances are, on high settings, you won't have that anti-gravity feeling. So what you mean to tell me, is you understood WoW PVP as soon as you began playing? I played a WARRIOR, and boy, did it take time for me to learn how to play my class effectively in PVP. Switching stances, zooming from person to person charging, hamstringing the DPS while chasing the healer, it's far from easy. That's wonderful that the weekend you played AoC you got it right off the bat, but I hate to break it to you: everyone is not like you. Some people like to analyze the skills and see which is better for use before just hitting buttons at random.
Games like WOW are not about graphix either. Its about the gameplay. Thats why the abilites of characters are actually intresting and long lasting. It doesn't matter if you play a warrior or a warlock. You will gain new things and learn new ways to use your characters as you lvl. Thats why WOW is populare. And it has good enough graphix and sound to deliver the true feel of a true universe that is exiting and enjoyable to play. This is where AOC totally fails. On all fronts. Abilites of the classes - boring.... Gameplay... well... its not there. Funcom considered the pretty paintings that are far away (landscape you can't reach) to be more important than the acutal gameplay. Now.. What WAR will do ? MMOs need to capture something to make the world become alive. Its a blend of sound, graphix, animations and abilites. And all this has to be there WITHOUT taking anything away from each other. This is what WOW did perfectly. THis is where AOC faiiled perfectly. War will not get it perfect at the start but hopefully open beta will give enough feedback to actually bind these features together and make it worth playing for more than 30 days. Will WAR be able to deliver ? I hope so cause but belive you me. I will not be playing a MMO game for a whole year (or 3) that just looks awsome. THere are so many other things that have the same importance. |

There is talk on the official test-live forums that next patch has lovered the normal mount price from 2 gold to 75 silver. Oh really ?? It took them 6 weeks and 100000000 goldspamming to find this out ? I told them after one week. What did they do ? Piss more ppl off that now spent 2 gold on mounts ? Just geniouses... Oh and btw - Grey quests are back to giving XP. Gratz Funcom - You obviously know what you are doing. One week you do this and next week you do that. Who cares about the basic systems as long as it looks like you are doing something... Really guys - Stay away for next 6 months |

You do know that Funcom removed the search option and changed the codes so the servers are shown at medium load minimum from 12 pm to 12 am ? Oh - You didn't ? Well - you can always look at this chart to cheer you up. Only shows Funcom stocks falling 25% in last week. http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=FUNCOM.OL&t=5d&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=%5EDJI Probably cause the servers are full of ppl !!! |

Plz show us picutures of it. It must be a picture of it since we have only about 15.000.000 copies of the orginal release. Would also be nice if you could show me the statement from Blizzard 2 weeks before launch that this content was IN the game at release. Like Funcom did with their statement about keeping DX10, Spellweaving and Siegeing away from the beta testers.... Seriously - Stop making up excuses for MMO genre to release buggy and untested content. It is not good for anyone. IFyou are a TRUE fanboy of MMOs instead of selfish kissass title gamer like most of you turn out to be (WOW IS THE BEST - LOTRO IS CRAP (or the other way around)) then maybe we will actually at some point see some real Next gen MMO. Until then we will just keep on getting PR and bunch of bugs and missing content. |

AOC is setting the standards to what is acceptable in the year 2008 yes. And Mythic is gonna follow the same pattern. Infact - it looks like they are following the exact same pattern. Funcom cut two classes from their game about 5 months before launch. And AOC did not launch with their PVP system at all. Even tho they didn't announch it before launch... So.. What are we seeing with the 2008 releases ? Yes - we are seeing alot of loud talking PR devs hyping up the game with all possible means. They sell everyone (including the money men) all kinda ideas and the "next generation" mmo. But then... at some point - Usually 4-5 months before releaase those devs have to deliver something of what they talked about. And then... just like before - they end up pleasing the money men before they even think about the gamers. This is what happened with Funcom and AOC and this is exactly what is happening with Mythic and WAR. All of a sudden they realise they can't even deliver half of wheir idea - cause lets face it... it wasn't realistic. And thats why they are more likly to end up with a bastard of a game that ends up with comprimising everything that was the basics of the game in the first place. This is what Mythic is now doing. Their basics was to build up a game on 3 diffrent fronts - with 6 major cities. With 6 races. With equal amount of arhctype classes in each race. Yes... THIS was the orginal idea. And all those classes... those cities.... The ORGINAL idea INCLUDING the classes was build on a gaming enviroment that has been around for decades. Mythic is now just fine comprimising this basic of their system - JUST because they can't bother with making it work. And why ?? Because they dont have time for it. This is obvious signs that Mythic is ready to comprimise EVERYTHING just to launch the game. And it really wont matter in what state they launch it. Cause they have already made comprimises on the biggest - most TELLING and ORGINAL part of the game. This dissision was not taken yesterday - or last week. It was taken more than month ago. Then the devs realised there was no way in hell they would deliver half of what they had hyped up. Now it was time to try to land the plane. And yes... 8 of the wheels had been removed midflight. Now the reality for Mythics hit them. They have to make the whole game come together. And you know what? How are they doing it now ? Yes.. By removing the orginal idea. The basic system of the game. Is this the future of Next gen MMOs ? If so then I hope WoW will release 10000 expansions in TBC quality (in terms of bugfree and tested content). Games are now the biggest single form of entertainment in the world including movies, dvds. and music (48 billion dollars) and this is what the MMO genre is offering ? No thank you. Its time that we - the MMO gamers actually come together to stop this kinda developing. Like many have pointed out - its nothing new to the genre. But its not something that is a must to make a good MMO. Cause if 5 years of testing is needed to make a MMO - then the games should be FREE for 5 years before it comes out. And THEN ppl should start paying for it. Both AOC and WAR are changing the CORE of their orginal ideas. Thats sign of just one thing. Their ideas sucked in the first place. And it took them 5 years to find out ? No.. It was all just PR. |

If there are incomplete classes then they delay - fix those issues and "launch it when its ready and great !" They are not doing that. After reading the last comments from MJ its obvious that these classes were NOT tested much in beta and OFC they are then not ready - polished or even have animations. They throw them out cause they can't bother making them like they planned. And like he said. They will spend the extra time polsihing other classes. Oh ... great... How about increasing the time to polish ALL 24 classes that were announched ? This is cheap talk. There are things going on behind the scenes that ppl are not allowed to talk about. And they are obviously alot bigger than any of us can imagine at this point. At least we can say for sure that Mythic is over their head in work cause they are now cutting content and classes. The date for release has been set in stone now. Thats all they care about and the game will launch ready or not or great or not. Thats how things work.

Cutting down the 4 classes and 4 cities is done BECAUSE they are on deadline. These are issues that they simply can not hide from players so they have to announche it. Game is obviously far from ready if the best option is to remove content and classes. There are probably 100s if not 1000s of other not yet announched things that wll be cut off. That includs fully testing the game. Again - They are launching a game with classes missing - that suposedly were part of the arch class build countering the oposite race. Really... Its obvious that this system has been cut down. And MJ says the game will still launch great... And those classes were problems ? What kinda problems ? You mean that Mythic doesn't have time to rethink and change them before launch problems ? "we launch the game when its ready and great". Well - great for whom? You know Funcom is still claiming their game is great... |
