Age of Conan: Funcom boasts 700,000 Accounts

I never said that Vanguard was getting ALL the subs from AoC. The number of comments on in-game chat from people who have left AoC and who are now enjoying Vanguard is astounding. How long that lasts past the free month, I have no idea. There is however no doubt the game is far more stable, smooth and has much more content than it did when I left it. Vanguard had a year in the oven to properly bake. AoC needs that year. |

Age of Conan: Funcom boasts 700,000 Accounts

Originally posted by newborn You are kidding me right? There is no way in hell AoC will top WoW. WoW is simple, easy to play, has content coming out of its wazoo, is stable and delivers on what it promises ( ... though milage may vary on the later as customers have varying expectations). Lets see with AOC.
As I said in a previous post, give the game a year and it will probably be a great game. And during that time it will likely hold enough players to make itself sustainable, if not quite profitable .. enough so to allow Funcom to fix the problems. But it will not sustain anywhere near the subscriptions that WoW has. WoW is a game for the masses. I'm not sure AoC can ever claim that title.

World of Warcraft: Blizzard Authenticator

Originally posted by AlienShirt Buy it, or don't. It's up to you. Just like the banks, they don't force you to buy a security token. It's up to you to decide whether you want to extra security. And it's only seven freaking bucks for gods sake ... and a one off purchase. Greedy? Who's being cheap?! I doubt they are making much, if any profit on this at all. |

I hope so because for every bug they fix, the seem to introduce two more; it's AO all over again. I've cancelled my account and am going to revisit in 12 months. Hopefully FC will have settled down with the patch frenzy and the game is stable again ... and they have a decent amount of content to cover all levels.

Age of Conan: Director Speaks on Fileplanet Open Beta
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/30/08 3:24:49 AM
Do you guys HONESTLY believe that Funcom are making money off the Beta? It's the standard Fileplanet subscription fee .... not a fee to play the AoC Beta? You lot need to get some perspective and stop being such a bunch of cheap arsed parasites who just want to play a game for FREE for a month. |

As much as you may hate it, Fileplanet is the best distribution method for something this size. They regularly handle betas distributions and are geared up for it. Stop being such a tightwad and hand over $5 for one month. So you might have to make a lunch for one day rather than buy it at the local cafe/canteen? |

I've been playing MMOs since UO. You'd find that there are a hell of a lot of Older Gamers out there who have. The other thing you have to remember is that WoW made MMORPGs a lot more accessible to the masses, young and old. I know many people who turned their nose up at games in the past, played WoW and said "Hey ... this is REALLY fun!". Anything that can convert "non-gaming snobs" into gamers has to be a pretty powerful medium. So "perhaps Mr Condescending Director", you ain't that great after all! |

Have another read of my post. I didn't say COH had less content at all. And why would I "lie"? Such as strange choice of word for who should be an intellectual discussion. |

BOLLOCKS! WoW has attracted more first time gamers to the market than any other game in existance. You can't tell me that first time gamers are Blizzard/Warcraft fanbois; they have no prior knowledge of the Warcraft at all. It's success lies in the fact that it IS and easy game to play. It has solid gameplay. It is easy for first time gamers to play and doesn't punish failure ... it's meant to be a game and meant to be fun to play. I think this editorial pretty much hits the mark. That said, there are many games that don't want to be 600lb gorillas. There are still several niche's for other games to exploit ... the hardcore gamers who sneer at WoW simplicity, the gamers who love the challenge of complex gameplay, the gamers who are sick of the fantasy genre. the gamers that value community over content, the gamers who want the bloodlust of full-on PvP, the gamers who WANT the sandbox and create their own content. And there is nothing wrong with that. EQ2, EVE, City of Heroes/Villians, Anarchy Online, Ultima Online, Darkfall (when we see it), Ryzom Ring and even Neverwinter Nights. There is plenty of room in the market for all games. Some gamers will not go for the popular game because it doesn't appeal to them. They would rather go for the game that occupies THEIR niche. And this is where I think the music anaolgy is appropriate. You have "popular commercial music" ... and then there is classical, adult alternative, heavy metal, punk, goth rock. There is a musical genre that will appeal to all niche groups. And then there's the masses. That's my 2c anyway. |

Not impressed at all .....
..... Look at the animations for instance. They lack fluidity of movement. The dragon flying is just abysmal animation as is the combat. Those are the kind of details that are complete "immersion breakers", and playing MMORPGs is all about keeping "immersion" in a fantastic world. To it's credit though, the draw distance is pretty good. Lets just pray that the gameplay is fun. If it's going to steal any subscribers from WoW, it's going to have to be casual friendly. If it appeals only to the hard-core players, then it will go the way of EQ2. And before you start flaming me .... just look at subscription numbers. 5million vs a couple 100K? Get serious. |
