This thread is 100% true. They baited everyone with "this will be a good pvp game" and with specifically saying death would have a consequence. Now the game is live, there is NO pvp death penalty, and it's exactly the same old boring crap we have had for the last 5 years. |

An AOC damage meter app. has been created. Download it here: http://www.voig.com/voice/downloads.html It's very cool. It doesn't even run in AOC it just analyzes saved combat text outside the game. Very useful for a lot of things. |

Could this be it? http://www.voig.com/media/2008/Apr/23/LifeofWorldPVP.html That is what MMOs are all about. Not this consensual "instanced" pvp battleground crap they have moved towards.

They said there may be item looting servers on this game. No one is going to be a "hardcore raider" in a game on a PVP server with item looting. You raid 10 hours a night, wipe wipe wipe, then get your RARE drop loot and if someone kills you in PVP they can take it. Grats.
People on item loot servers are forced to use crafted gear or lower quality gear than raid gear. Gear that is pretty easily to acquire and can be passed around between the PvPers as they kill each other.
This is why AOC still has tons of hope no matter WHAT system they implement.
Hardcore raids for those folks who like it. Item loot servers for people who don't .
This is the ultimate way to run an MMORPG. People on the item loot server WILL raid too sometimes. People are freaking crazy. These items will be floating around being passed around as trophies and it will OWN. |

The stupid writers of that commercial should be shot
"I've gone ahead and equipped my epic axe"
WTF ? Is the sum total of their experience in WoW watching the South Park episode? |

The downfall of this game is that it offers nothing else besides hardcore arena style PVP. In a game with an actual world, quests, and and other things to do besides PVP you CAN still just do nothing but pvp all day and night. Many players choose to do this in WoW for example by just doing arenas and battlegrounds. That option is completely covered. WoW also happens to have a huge PVE side of things, which isn't appealing to many "hardcore" pvpers IS something that gets experienced by the LARGE majority of the players at some time or another. So essentially all fury does is completely limit the game play options to one tiny narrow aspect of what any normal game offers. In my opinion instanced PVP and arena style PvP isn't even real PVP. I would much rather play counterstrike. The entire point of PVP in an MMORPG in my view is to fight over resources such as monster spawns, towns, and further your guilds name. In Asherons Call on darktide for example all we really did was PVP all day, but we could go out into the world server looking for people who were doing PVE to slaughter. This is a form of PVP that is exceptionally fun and only available in MMORPGs. There were 9 dungeons. 3 low level ones (lugian citadels) 3 mid level ones (olthoi horde nests) and 3 high level ones (black spawn dens) and they were literally "owned" by guilds that constantly had full time PVPers defending them. Other players who enjoyed PVE went deeper inside and hunted while being protected by the PVPers. The guilds also all had towns they owned and re-spawn points (lifestones) that other guilds would try to camp. Thus we had a massive guild vs guld war with POLITICS involved. MMORPGS are all about politics. If my guild pissed me off I might leave and join the enemy and then begin to fight against my guild instead of with them. If I went around slaughtering innocent players I would be labeled as a "PK" and shunned by "anti-pk" players. The point is it HAD the whole "pvp to your hearts content" aspect like fury, but in addition to this there was a whole HUGE game with politics, crafting, PVE, a random loot system, and resources worth fighting over. Fury fails as a game because they assume PVPers would prefer to play in a much more limited game that doesn't offer them a single extra benefit for giving all that other stuff up. This was clearly a very false assumption. They looked at it and said "omg pvpers hate PVE lets just make a game with none" but doing PVE or not is an OPTION in most games. There was once a guy who saw kids wearing their hats backwards and he just assumed they didn't like the brim....... so he made hats with no brim. He failed in exactly the same was as Fury. Taking away an option no one wanted adds ZERO utility. For a PVP player who wasn't going to do PVE anyways all it does it alienate anyone that isn't 100% focused on NOTHING but PVPwhich is the large large large majority of players. |

I could write about this all day, but on AC 1 on darktide they put housing barriers up ...... they only really wanted to include them on the NON-PVP servers. The barriers destroyed darktide. if you are "still kicking around" on darktide you are enjoying a game that is a crappy shade of it's former glory. Guilds used to have lifestones that they would use to meet and defend. This was before housing got put into the game where you can just all recall to a guild house. Now.... other guilds could come surround your lifestone.... and when anyone in your guild recalled there or died they would just get jumped again by a huge group of PVPers. This was amazing. YOu could have a guild vs guild war. Guild on Guild warfare is something distinctly lacking from todays MMORPGs (except eve) So they added these barriers just for the o.O servers and they put them on the PVP server too..... then they said they could not remove them on the PVP server even tho no Guild vs Guild wars were impossible..... players recalled to housing that was fully protected. Guilds started having "buff bots" that stood behind the barrier all day and did buffs for noobies.....
it's darktardville now. Have fun there. |

The thing is the numbers are not officially released, so it's up to journalists to dig up that type of data. I assure you, it is extremely interesting and valuable data for financial companies like trading houses and other competing game companies. Since the information is not officially released it's up to sites like Mmogdata.com to do research and come up with the best numbers they can. They don't have affiliation or influence from any of the game companies. The only thing that is going to make a site like that successful is being accurate and honest in the long run, so that is what they are obviously trying to do. With an intellectual property like Lord of the Rings I could make a game in my basement with 3 friends that would have 800,000 accounts. It doesn't matter if the game is garbage with no PVP, it's Lord of the Rings. People from around the world are going to log on just to run around and see Tom Bombadil. That being said, if anyone could screw it up it would be Turbine. They had a PVP server in AC and they put up housing barriers that protected the guild housing in the game. There was a flourishing amazing guild vs guild war going on and land control system and they threw invincible barriers around every guilds house FOR THE NON PVP SERVERS, and then they refused to remove them on the PVP server. Thus every player quit and found a game that wasn't run by total morons. Never play a turbine game. Playing a turbine game is like being in one of those REALLY dirty japanese prons where they take a dump on you. Turbine took a dump on their paying customers on AC Darktide. That is the only legacy they will ever leave. |

This game is destined to suck because it's a two faction system like WoW. You can't have any type of player / guild politics in a two faction game. You can't roleplay "good" effectively when every player is automatically doing the same exact thing (helping their faction and fighting the enemy). You need some players to differentiate themselves as "pk" and others as "anti pk" and they will actually be good and evil instead of just playing their side which is no different than the other side other then arbitrary choice |

The thing that makes WoW unplayable is that I can't talk to alliance ......my guild also can't possibly go "raid" another guild and PVP against them...... There is no world pvp, there are no politics, and thus there is no fun. There is no land control, there are no resources to control / fight over, and there is no penalty for dying other than a short run....... It's not an MMORPG. It's a chat room. |

People who write things like this are the reason suicide exists. I find it appalling that other games are even considering the ability to loot items from other characters, this is simply theft. Personally I would never play a game that condones this type of activity and I think a vast majority of the gaming community wouldn't as well which is why you will never see it in WoW." You would sound just as smart saying people who play Starcraft are sociopaths because they like to knock down other people's buildings. How can these terrorists who go into a town and raze the entire town be allowed to walk around in normal society????1st off, there isn't player item looting in WOW. So wtf is this guy talking about? Second, if everyone agrees to play by those rules how the hell is it the same as knocking out a random person in a park? Maybe if the random person CHOSE the park knowing you were there, signed up saying he wanted to compete vs you for his wallet, and was trying to take your wallet too...... that would be a reasonable thing to write. What you wrote was so stupid it's criminal. I would lock you up for being so ignorant. Seriously. |
