TOR is going to be very very addictive.

Originally posted by twodayslate You are using a very loose and convenient preference based rational. I am using the scientific, neorological definition that has been studied by psychology. An impulse is not the same as an addiction. You have to see an addiction as a chemical process of the brain that is released within certain patterns in order to "wire" you into thinking you want something. There is no chemical release that is built through a lack of playing games. Merely a compelling experience that makes chemical releases during the game play. It's a cigarette elevation without the nicotine. I never said it wasn't a problem. Overly compulsive behavior can have all the same symptoms of pure addiction. This is why people think games are addictive, because it's impossible to tell the difference without the study of the brain to find the acute difference. |

I say no based on fact. It is physiologically, and psychologically impossible to be addicted to video games. You can become compelled to play them and then lured in by the compulsion. But there is no drive to play that games that is triggered by addiction, which is caused by a chemically induced neorological dependency. Swtor will be compelling and I will spend many hours playing it, but It will never require the same neorological dependency as something addiction forming like smoking. |

Anybody know if Bioware has more up its sleeve concerning World PvP?

Originally posted by Satarious Haven't you ever had a faction rivalry, or guild rivarly? Where you know the names of the enemies who you want to kill. I remember the name of several players from the Republic faction back in SWG from 2004. A couple in particular that would always motivate me to play better so that I could beat them, after being completely owned by them. I want to know who I am fighting. If it's guild A, we know it's guild A, and we can evaluate how they play, and how they change in the future. GW2 won't allow this. You don't improve and adapt to what you know about your enemies playstyle. And their will be no nostalgia had when reminiscing over certain guilds, or players you have faught. Even in real life, militaries know enough about other militaries to be able to forumulate a plan and counter them based on what is known from past experience. MMORPG's are about community, rather than nameless 3d models from alternate servers. I would much prefer to have an established enemy over one that is random. At least in an mmorpg.
Know Thy Enemy as Thyself. - " To know our enemies, we must be seekers of truth. We must seek purity and understanding in ourselves so the things we see become that much more clear. Knowing your enemy makes combat better. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Will SWTOR Be the Last Big-Budget MMOG?
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/13/11 11:47:18 PM
Originally posted by Markn1 Smedley, head of SOE, said that SWTOR will probably be last big budget MMO. Same Smedley, who is overlord of said EQ3. This means either he doesn't consider EQ3 as a "big budget" MMO amongst the giants, or he has a different payment model planned for that as well. |

MMORPG.com is like walking into a totalitarian state, where you have to watch your rear every time you bend over to pick up something up off the ground. Because you know there's always a guy watching you, waiting for the right time to shove something in your a#$. |

Originally posted by Williac Lol, it's not ruined at all. The first time I came back to TF2 was a month ago, and the first day I got on, there were plenty of servers to play, and the gameplay experience was exactly like it was the first year it released. Why would you care about "work", in a FPS? Log in and shoot people, and if you are a loser, religiously track your k/d on ranked servers. You don't need a deep and engaging experience for a FPS. You only need solid mechanics to create fun, skill based gameplay. |

This is over the span of an entire decade. Just between one title to the next in this franchise, I can see more change than in the last 5 COD releases. |

The list says 2 confirmed warzones, and 2 warzones total. There are actually 2 released warzones, but a 3rd, the voidstar, that is common knowledge. |
