General: List: You're Just Not That Into It
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/28/09 6:42:48 AM
#3 is why I (and a lot more people) quit AION.
The developers must all have down syndrome and the customer support is non-existent. It's a shame for them being ROFLstomped by DFO devs and support. AION : No GMs ingame, No forum moderation, Horrible customer support. DFO : GMs ingame reply to you *responsibly*, Forum moderators doing their job, AMAZING customer support - tickets submitted are being looked at and replied to within minutes/hour and not with a generic pre-made response.
The article as a whole made me realize that i'm deeply in love with DFO. I left it the 1st month due to hackers ruining everything, then couldn't stay away from it and returned during summer. Then quit again due to the ridiculous amount of people that have AFK macro'd their stats / skills / spells to the max, being utterly overpowered.
And finally i came back to it last week, their expansion launches Thursday, Dec 4th and honestly it looks like the game is at last on its way to success. Magic is getting nerfed, melee / archery is being boosted, crafting upgraded and large scale naval PvP is going to be daily since they are adding the infamous Sea Towers.
Darkfall online is by far the best MMO i've played to date. (as an overall experience ofc) It offers something for everyone. Want PvP? Join a clan and raid other clan cities and hamlets. Want crafting? Gather resources and craft anything from a simple *cheap* leather set to an *expensive* massive Man-O-War battleship. Want PvE? Better get ready cause mobs in DFO are nothing like any AI controlled NPCs you've ever fought. |

Since when has Aventurine not been desperate? They always have and always will. Up till the moment they pull the plug and sail away in their little rowboat with the little cash they have left. So this doesn't suprise me one single bit.
Don't worry, Aventurine doesn't just work on DarkFall. They have a lifetime contract making military training software for the Greek Air Forces.
So they wont run out of money, be sure of that. Imo, they made a massive profit from DFO. No advertising, just two servers, tiny dev team. They made shit loads of money just from the initial sales back in Ferbuary. Add all the hackers with double and triple accounts + monthly fees for all these months and there you go, even more money.
In my book, Aventurine has succeded in many ways. But im happy for one thing. They showed the big companies out there that games like DFO can work and will work if you make them properly. |

Originally posted by Maximos I agree it is technically "easy" to level. I could have hit 50 by now if I wanted to. Considering i rerolled to a class that suit me more after leveling first character to 35. However, the grind, while not hard, is not entertaining. In fact it is the opposite. I prefer my games to entertain, but heh that's why i call it a game. Work is easy too but I prefer not to do it on my down time. So you enjoy it, good for you. Just don't be surprised if server pops die after the 29th when free time goes down.
I will be surprised actually, because most of the people are in their late 30s - early 40s. They still need to hit 45 before they even begin to think of the term "grinding".
I don't mind killing mobs and personally i hate quests. This doesn't change the fact that there's hundreds of quests you can do in each region and most of them give very good exp. Instances are the way to go btw, get a decent group around your level and just go kill stuff. That's how MMORPGs have always been. I don't see why companies have to reinvent the wheel. There is only a handful of ways of gaining exp in these genre. Killing mobs, doing quests, crafting, PvP.
AION is an MMO that launched pretty much bug / exploit free. Mostly feature complete as well. It performs great even on shitty 4 to 5 years old computers and the devs are already working on the siege lag / crash issues.
What else do you want them to do? Play the game for you? |

A normal 2-dotted mob gives me ~30k EXP at level 46. That is without the +30% EXP buff you get when you log out for hours and without the Lodas Amulet which gives another extra +20% EXP. Those two combined, give you +50% more EXP.
Elite mobs give at LEAST TWICE as much as a normal mob when in a group of EQUAL level people.
So if you have half a brain, you will gather some 30% buff and a lodas amulet, make a decent group and go "grind" on elite mobs that you have to kill ANYWAY for QUESTS. Quests above level 30 give you 1,000,000 exp + (im talking about decent quests, easy ones give anything around 200k - 600k)
Hundreds of people are level 50 already, or nearing it because guess what, its EASY. Also, guess what? You cant level if you dont play. You cant possibly expect to hit 50 in a month by playing 2 hours a day. It's an MMORPG. It's supposed to take that long, or lots of effort for that matter.
Stop whining, its easier than WoW. |

Since when being a Templar makes you the "alpha-male" of the party?

I do make groups myself, but when we actually start killing mobs the Templar or whoever is tanking should have the lead. It goes faster that way.
And no, i don't play a Templar, im a Spiritmaster. |

Thanks, but no thanks.
Wake me up if it runs flawlessly on most computers like AION and also has as much content as AION does. I used to hate Ncsoft's new "baby" but their newest patches (1.5.0.1+) made me change my mind completely on it. |

In case someone got a key he doesn't want / need, or got it by that stupid error from Fileplanet, i'd appreciate it very very very much if you'd give it me. You can pm me here, or e-mail me at betacake@gmail.com.
Thank you in advance. |

First of all i talked with people playing the Korean retail and 1.5 is not some miracle patch that makes the game a thousand times better. Ganking might be a little more restricted in 1.5 but nothing changed in the Abyss. You can still be freely killed by a level 50 there and he'll get no penalty for it.
As for your comment "those people like to do shit that EU/NA people don't", well a beta weekend ago some friends of mine were talking about how some tards were camping rift entrances and exits. Nothing is different, trust me on this.
And about NCsoft giving a fuck for your (EU/NA playerbase) opinion/suggestions/complaints, think again. Think Lineage 2. I went throught it once, i don't feel like going throught it again. Same concept is being followed with AION so far, game was advertised to be released globaly at the same date, but guess what it didn't. Already out for 1 year+ in Korea and even the 1.5 patch will be "old" by the time EU/NA servers go live.
So far, European and American fans have no infulence over upcoming patches/expansions. I highly doubt its going to change after release.
You'll be playing the same old shit Koreans played 6 months ago, badly translated and full of bugs.
And lastly, i'm not even mentioning the botting / hacking issue. Sure its only rampant in Chinese retail and less in Korean but again, think Lineage 2.
The game is just a time killer, nothing special about it. Totally not worth 50 euros. Maybe 25 for a CE box. |

Aion: NCsoft: Aion Will be Second Only to WoW

Look what i found !

Having played a Spirit Master to level 38 in Chinese retail, i didn't feel like i accomplished something.
Let me explain.
The game is basically a gank fest. As much as i love PvP (playing DFO atm), AION just fails to deliver "proper" PvP fights. There's nothing there to stop a 10-15 man group jumping you while you're doing your quests or simply grinding. They don't even need to be higher level that you, you cannot kill more than 2, maybe 3 maximum of them. The 2-hour-recharging Rifts encourage this by limiting the access to the PvP content.
Abyss : Best PvE zone in the game. Don't kid yourself, you won't be going there to PvP, mobs give double the amount of EXP than world mobs. Some die twice as fast as well.
Fortress Sieges : PvE content. To capture a Fortress, all you have to do is kill a raid boss. Yes you read it right, a mob. On top of that, there's no real reward for defending it. So people in Chinese and Korean servers just capture it one day and then leave it undefended for the other faction to have it the next day. More rewards for everyone this way.
Abyss Points and Gear : Mostly useless. Abyss Gear is good only when you buy the gold versions of it and only useful for certain classes/builds. Also, the main way to get Abyss Points is ganking. Take a 6+ man group, go through a rift and go gank anything you can until either some high levels kill you, or if you are high level yourself; kill untul you are bored of it. Another way is mobs and enemy NPCs, which was the main way of obtaining AP for some guild in AION CN.
All in all, the game won't fall flat on its face, but its not for the average PvP powergamer. Nothing exciting about AION imo, except the graphics and the well coded shadows and textures which make it run great even on low end machines.
Anyone who likes/plays/worships World of Warcraft will most likely waste a few years of his/her life on AION. |

Final Fantasy XIV: Massive Official Site Update

quote : "Darkfall favors gear over player skill. Numbers over player skill. Twinks (24/7 macro character skills) over player skill."
Wrong. If that was true then how come this guy with the best gear and 100 level fire magic and archery and above 60 on all stats couldn't kill me as soon as i hit the water? Player Skill? Oh snap ! Can't be ! There's no way he couldn't kill me because i had the brain power to buff my self with Gills and just dive to the bottom of the lake and just parry down there till he realized i was not taking dmg while he was trying to get to me. And then ofc he died to my friends that i had already called through vent.
Darkfall is the ONLY mmo that I have played so far that requires real player skill if you want to do something worth mentioning in-game.
6/10 is pretty decent. Any higher would just bring more carebears to the game. Don't forget Lineage 2 got a 7/10 back in the days of its glory. And NCsoft's team has 100s of people, not 50ish like AV.
They pulled the game off and they are actually making a living out of it, at least give them that. Cause they deserve it. |

Aion: Tower of Eternity: Associate Producer Interview
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/20/09 3:53:33 PM
Why do you avoid asking them real, proper questions? Aren't they gonna sell AION for real money?
Here's a few for your next interview :
1. Will the European and American playbase have any power over what needs to be "fixed", "nerfed", "tweaked" and so on? Or is it like Lineage 2 where we got w/e update the Korean players wanted? (note : A year later from them as well)
2. Why do they keep talking about that thing called PvPvE? They are intentionally misleading the fanbase. There is such a feature ingame, but its PvEvP and trust me there's a huge difference. PvPvE = proper PvP with the NPC faction interfering. PvEvP = You are leveling / questing and you suddenly get jumped by a 6 man group.(if not more) I kid you not, the Abyss is not for PvPing, its where mobs give the mobs exp per kill + rewards. Which makes it a leveling place.
3. Will utterly stupid items like the potions which remove ALL your abnormal conditions (debuffs, slow, silence, etc...) be removed from the game? Or they will let them destroy the PvP experience like Blessed Scrolls of Escape did in Lineage 2.
4. Will Fortress Sieging stay as it is? I honestly don't see the point of defending a fortress when you'll get more Abyss Points and rewards if you just leave the other faction have it for a day. (Sieges happen every day if im not wrong) It's already an issue in Korea and China. Another question on sieges. Where exactly is the fun part in capturing a fortress by killing a raid boss? Where is the PvP part of Fortress sieging when nobody defends them?- because they have nothing to lose anyway, they will recapture them the next day and be rewarded for it as well....
Honestly i could go on and on and on and on with real questions that need real answers but i cannot be bothered. I played a Spirit Master to level 36 on Chinese retail and i don't feel like i have accomplished something. I reached the Abyss rank of Soldier rank 3 but that's mostly from mobs and enemy NPCs, not from killing people. And that's not just me, its what everyone does. Its just faster and more convenient. Mobs and NPCs will always give you the same amount of AP and they will always respawn, when a player will stop giving you points after you kill him a couple times.
Don't get me wrong here, i believe AION has the full potential of becoming a very successful MMORPG, even hit humongous numbers like World of Warcraft. But. That won't happen if the game stays as it is. Lots of tweaking is requiered and people like me want to know beforehand if the company has the resources, the guts and the will to make these changes happen. So far, even from official announcements they are not changing anything to the game but translating it to English, French and German. The core mechanics are staying the same, they are only adding new items and zones which doesn't really change things. It just recycles boredom and nothing more.
Thanks for reading my post, if you don't agree with me there's no need for flaming, just ignore me and move along. |

General: The List: 5 Studios That Should Do MMOs
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/09/09 3:37:57 AM
I have to disagree with you Jon Wood.
Valve? No. Just no. They make awesome games, yes. But then they stop bothering and their games become prey for hackers. So many "holes" in their code that allow rediculous things to become possible by changing a couple offsets.
I'm 300% sure they can make a great MMOFPS game. But i'm also 30000% sure that they'd leave hackers ruin it within months.
Also, i don't think Rockstar Games will hop on the MMO making bandwagon because they seem too smart to get involved in such a risky genre. GTA IV lacked content, i finished it in a matter of days. Who would want an MMO like that?
Anyway, that was a great article of yours, i enjoyed reading it a lot. Have a nice day. |

Anyone interested in RvR? Here's a Video and my thoughts about Aion(Kor server)
General Discussion « Aion 6/23/09 12:42:13 PM
First of all , thank you for the answers.
To the point, Spirit Master looks it is just a debuffing class. 2 buff cancelling skills, Silence, Root, Attack Speed decrease, Running Speed decrease, Flight Time decrease, Fear, Mass Fear. And lots of DOTs that barely do enough dmg compared to other offensive spells, like Flame Bolt, Smite, etc. And lets not forget the utterly useless pets which : 1. Cannot fly. 2. Do not do enough dmg to anything (only in PvE and that with the 2.000 DP buff). 3. Keep being unsummoned automatically when they(or their master) are in "x" distance from each other. Also counting the Z axis. 4. Do not teleport around with you. (Sounds really dumb but if you summon your pet, buff it and teleport somewhere, it just won't follow you).
kilkil2, what are the Korean players / devs thinking of these issues? You said you posted in their forums, so i assume you might have seen threads / polls about class balancing / tweaking and maybe discussions about what's coming in next patches. note: AION China is still patch 1.0 retail as far as i know, so i have only played that version.
Again thanks for your effort sharing all this. |

Anyone interested in RvR? Here's a Video and my thoughts about Aion(Kor server)
General Discussion « Aion 6/23/09 11:53:28 AM
kilkil2, i would like to ask you a couple things, if you have the time please put some effort to reply.
Granted you've experienced "end game" in AION korea, i was wondering if you can give me any info about the place of a good Spirit Master in PvP. Is it really just a debuffing class?
I played till level 30+ in AION China and i only had trouble killing people when they would just take off and fly away. Of course i died to 3+ people and gankers but that's another issue. While flying, more than half of Spirit Master's skills turn grey(unusable).
So what exactly is the place of a level 50 Spirit Master? Do the Korean Spirit Masters agree that a flying pet is tottaly needed? Or that the pets do rediculously low dmg and they need tweaking? Pet's dmg doesn't change even if you have the best armor on, they will always either do 100 dmg or miss.
Hopefully you can take some time and answer my questions. Thanks in advance mate. |

My experience with the game to almost level 50
General Discussion « Age of Conan 6/17/09 6:56:23 AM
Level 80 in a month? What the hell?
I'm pretty sure it was possible to powerlevel a character to 80 in 1 week, maybe 1 and a half back when it was first launched. I would say, 2 weeks are more than enough to reach level 80. |
