General: Forum Spotlight: The Gender Question
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/28/07 7:57:35 PM
And the king of all undead horses raises it's head again. Personally, most all my avatars are female-I'm staring at a butt for hours on end, it had better be a butt I can stand to look at. LOL. As for the whole question of do I get stuff? Not really- but I always say something like 'You won't like what's in the hotpants cheif' and most are bright enough to get the hint. Do girls in games get more? Of course, it's a part of our whole culture-the girl don't show up a dude's house with a limo and a box of candy, it's the other way around. (unless the dude's a complete waste, then RUN girls, he'll be on the couch drunk and scratching himself 4 hours into the marriage!) It's something we learn as early as gradeschool (don't hit girls, giving them flowery cards and little candy hearts) and doesn't let up. Even office affairs- 9 times out of 10 it's some older guy getting his young secretary a mink coat and a fancy dinner. Not always mind you-but usually. Do I mind? Not really. Do I care who's typing on the other end? Again, nope. I'm never going to see them, I don't go to cons or anything. Won't ever see anything but their text. As for voice, I hate the crap. It's too distracting and cuts in on my tunes time. It's no different than a girly mag. You won't ever get any of them women, so fantasize away. |

Possible new WoW xpac info Wraith of the lichking
Rumor Room « World of Warcraft 8/03/07 8:38:38 AM
As for pack content, I certainly hope so. I'd hope for them adding a second new class though, as for the game not being balanced they've stated that's how they want it. Rock/Scissors/Paper, not every class the same with different names. (and frankly I'm glad that's the attitude. It gives more variety to the classes than it would otherwise) |

Originally posted by TheChronic Ummm-wait. You're even interested in Age of Conan and you DON'T want it focused on combat? Umm..alright. Ever read the novels? Movies? heck even the old Savage Sword of Conan comics. Remember them HUGE black and white comics from the 70s and 80s? LOL. Boy I'm old..But seriously. No offence, but Conan is a whole world about barbarians, evil wizards, and huge wars. It's BEEN about that sicne day one. I agree 100% that we need a MMO focusing on other things, but Conan? I knew right off what to expect. it's a game about big swords and kicking butt. It's CONAN! As cartoony as it is- I'd suggest you try the Lego MMO when it's out. or Blockland perhaps? those are building games. TSO is building and well..*AHEM* you know what bored people do when they not hitting something... Sadly, not sure if there are any other MMOs out there with something new, not involving combat. But to expect Conan to be that game? Eh.. Not likely. Though I would give it a shot, the new magic ideas, and cities sound amazing. |

Still not sure why some many trash vg's release...didn't anyone play WOW's release
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 6/27/07 2:13:59 PM
Wow's launch was amazing- the only issue they had was server loads. Who could have figured an EQ type game, normally a market of 500K or so, hit a couple million within weeks? Any game with a launch that large would have done the same thing, a PC, even a server cluster, can only be pushed so far before it chokes. AND Blizzard refunded lost play time to it's customers. I was unable to play Vanguard for more than an hour or two at a time at best, often dumped in dungeons and whatnot at random, logging back in dead, minus XP. Sometimes I'd log back in, and look like Michael Jackson or Leatherface or something. Others I'd log in and be max weight, and min height, etc. I left the game do to that, it got annoying to say the least. Vanguard had a horrible launch, by any standards. They had little server overload, if that. Servers were comfortably crowded, but not too laggy. But the bugs.. that Sigil COULD have done something about. Instead, they did several fanfaire deals, went to E3 and such, Brad McQuaid took a vacation while the game was at critical mass... In short, if it could have been wrong/gone wrong/been done wrong.. they managed it . I was psyched about that game since I first heard of it, 4 years back. So I'm hardly some random basher. Nor do I care what SOE does with SWG- that was over a year ago. Life goes on. Heck I don't mind the game anymore. The point is, Sigil messed up. Bigtime. Alot of people didn't run into these issues, and that's great for them. Wish I was one of them, when the game DID work, it was great fun and showed a ton of potential. Maybe in a year or so, SOE will have beaten the bugs out some more, and I'll give it another shot. I got station pass, so here's hoping, right? |

Pirates of the Burning Sea + SOE = ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/27/07 2:04:12 PM
Well, Vanguard was a hugely different case. Sigil was doing everything wrong. There had been few actual bugfixes to speak of, just bits here and there. Brad McQuaid was in hiding or something, if I recall hadn't even seen the staff in months. Employees were goofing off, if the cat is away the mice will play you know. There were affairs going on, divorces, the whole mess read like a soap opera. SOE had loaned Sigil millions to pay back MS for what they owed, Brad kept goofing off. I've heard everything from playing WOW at home to a mental breakdown, truth likely somewhere in between. SOE bought the remaining stock/interest/whatnot in the company after dumping millions into the mess and watching it sink down the drain, then caleld the employees out to the parking lot, and fired them all. Was newsletters and everything about it. Some were re-evaluated and went back to work apparently, others went to other games. After reading the fiasco at Sigil posts however, I for one sure wouldn't hire a single former employee. Lawsuit heaven waiting to happen with the affairs, the divoirces, the employees playing games instead of programming, etc. As for SOE buying it, just saves cash. After playing most all MMOs out there, I'd have to say it's a safe bet that all these companies equally greedy. It doesn't matter who's signign the paychecks, every company messes up it's games trying to turn it into the next big thing. It'll happen until these publishers get it ythrough their heads it's better to have a moderate, stable, and loyal customer base than a ton of turnovers that offer no safe long-term income. |
