you know, once upon a time there was a game which did , well exactly what you described ? :P Allods actually removed one of classes mov speed buff (was party wide buff psy had) and nerfed mov speed before they added horses to the game :=) Funny thing is those horses were still slower than pre-nerfed foot speed so people did not quite like it.

 

so, never say never, because stuff like that happens in mmo world :)

 

but yea i still think its a bad move, as bad as selling day 1 dlcs, but as long as we support it with our wallets, companies will keep doing so, and they will probably come up with more ways to make us pay, on top of box price + monthly fee + expansions.

 

so just dont buy the dam thing and let them know what you think about it... which never works because even if they put it at $800 a pop there would still be people buying it :=P

its Perfect world all over again... i remember when that game was about to be released, they promised open world housing, no instances (it didnt have many at first though), world pvp blabla... it ended being just another (pretty for its time) cash grab game.

 

cant believe archeage devs are doing this, no really... they 'wanted' to create a game that wont be just like all other games out there. Now they are patching it to be JUST like every other mmo released so far.

 

awesome, go archeage devs, make us proud and make it look more like wow, because THATS exactly what people want. more wow.

 

also, love how they switched focus to daily quests. i mean who on earth doesnt just love daily quests, in fact they should get rid of everything else and make us do at least 90 daily quests per day, if we want to progress end game. Because daily quests are fun. Every day, same quests. Whats there not to like?

 

 

 I actually like teso crafting system, its one of few things that i like about that game. Sure i still prefer systems like vanguard or Ryzom (btw mix of the two would be freaking epic :D) but teso crafting isnt that bad really, at least not as bad as some are trying to make it to be.

 

 

Its true how above mentioned system might be a bit too complex for your regular mmo player, so this one teso came up with is really decent, imo. not too complicated nor too simple and it allows you to actually make useful stuff, not sure whats there not to like? :P

 

its also worth mentioning how (in theory) crafted items should be good enough to make them actually usable, so unlike many other games where crafted items are subpar and instance gears are better this one wants you to craft stuff (speaking of which, why bother with crafting system at all then, if all you can make is pretty much useless, thats the question for devs not the players).

 

and whoever compares this system to neverwinter, well erm... yea sure. I did compare neverwinter as a whole to teso, as they have some similarities but its crafting system is nothing like teso :)

Still, after trying the game this weekend, it reminds me a lot of neverwinter, with all its instancing and all, but its nothing like wow though. Funny thing is some of wow systems would make this game better :=/

 

I think it does have some nice points, like heavy instancing and instances inside of instances, inside of instances, which is just freaking awesome. Just hope one day we'll get that far for every player to have their own instance. That would make amazing mmo, imo. Single player mmos are the future !!

 

so while being ashamed after watching that youtube video, if i feel like playing a game like this one ill just reinstall neverwinter instead, which is free and doesnt come with monthly sub either.

 

With all tha said, teso really is gonna be a great game, with lots of inovations and umm instances. 

 

speaking of which, i believe mmos are the only genre going backwards, in other genres games get better and more innovative as time goes by, and more money invested usually means its gonna be a better game overall :o 

Other genres are constantly expanding, adding more features, even mixing genres and stuff, while mmos have gone a long way from huge open world games with tons of systems/features to instanced 50 people games, stripped of as many features as possible, usually  releasing as a combat as the main, and quite often the only system worth mentioning, while doing anything else proves to be just a waste of your time.  

How many games have totally useless crafting, instanced housing which acts as glorified storage (could as well give you bigger storage instead and spend that time developing something that will people actually find useful), zero social interraction required, etc and tab combat as the only thing thats actually worth your time if you decide to play that mmo? Too many, imo. At least this one doesnt come with tab targeting though :P

 

So no im not buying yet another instanced combat symulator that will get old as soon as youre done with your linear quest line, despite your youtube link.

 my fav moment... is probably the FF VII game as a whole. Back then it was really something else compared to just about every other game.

Not much to do with this one though, but many years later its still one of my fav games ever, together with Fallout 2 and Planescape :-)

 Grind is not for casuals. Sandbox games cater more to casuals than any other type because you are not locked into any kind of grind, can log in for 10 minutes and actually accomplish something and log back out. Adding things like dailies, grind to crafting and a heavier aspect on gear is for hardcore western players.

How do you figure? Every sandbox i ever played was a GRIND FEST! 

only if you wanted to be THE man. i played sanboxes for ages and i never wanted to be the bestest of them all, as i played them on my own pace. There was a game where i would just login, go to some fishing spot near the bank with a few people around and we would talk or pretty much just 'waste' our time by themepark standards.

 

Sometimes id play for hours, exploring the world without killing anything significant (other than what attacks me while im out there exploring), which is also considered a non-productive thing because you know, youre not leveling up that way. But it was fun, and i enjoyed it. I never got to be the alpha male, nor i wanted to,  but i enjoyed every moment spent there.

That's not at all what I've experienced in my life at car dealerships. I very clearly remember multiple options and packages for varying amounts of money.

Stupid analogies are stupid, but so is comparing apples to a screw driver.

which of those packages failed to include all (lets say 4?) passenger seats?

 

Actually, his analogy is quite good imo. Its like buying a car with 4 seats, where 4th passenger seat is blocked and you gotta pay additional money to unblock (and use) it. 

 i also think its a great move. cant wait til they put more races for sale,

and i really really hope every new race they add will cost at least $30. no, wait make that $50 instead. I certainly hope they dont stop there,  why stop when they could also charge another $20 - $40 for new classes too, on top of dlc price ofc.

 

i dont get the haters, why wouldnt you guys want to pay more $ for things that used to come with base game access in the past? 

 

paying additional $ for mounts, races, classes is now cool so you people should just adapt and give publishers more money. MMO gaming is evolving and, imo, we should just learn to adapt to it and give those companies our money.

And no, you should not voice your concern because there are fans of the game that will eagerly explain it to you in a few simple words - spending more money on a game, as in paying for stuff that used to be free, is a good thing, because.

I feel Dofus is awesome and i wanted to let you know how i feel, in my comment below your post.

 I read most of it and while it looks nice, and im sure some of those changes will be great for the game that still doesnt change much :/

 

DF problem is much bigger than that and no harvesting nodes change will fix it. The thing is people come to darkfall expecting a sandbox game, but get to play whats essentially a ffa pvp game with other things added on top of it.

 

there is no economy, because everyone can craft just about anything, and EVERYONE can use every single resource in the game, and using resources instead of selling them gives you prowess (selling doesnt) so ... yea big surprise there, people keep resources to level themselves instead of selling it, which was totally unexpected eh?

 

so we have a sandbox-wannabe game with no economy, where everyone can craft everything, and its main selling point being ffa full loot pvp (might as well get rid of full loot wouldnt change much). considering how easy is gear to replace, only people hurt by full in DF are harvesters/crafters and maybe a few newbies here and there.

 

btw im playing df atm, but i really dont think its much of a sandbox really. Sure theres open world housing (i love it) but lets face it, if it wasnt for ffa full loot pvp nobody would ever even consider saying DF is a sanbox, no? 

 

for gods sake i think quazi-sandbox Age of wushu has more sandbox features than DF has, but it doesnt have full loot so people dont go around calling it a sandbox :P

 

i really, and i mean really wanted to like it, because i played UO, SWG and Tibia (all but tibia being sandbox games. Actually in tibia you had housing and ffa pvp, so its a sandbox too by DF definition).

Im also tired of wow-like games because they are essentially the same game with different skins,... but this game is really just one big pvp mess, where almost everyone will kill you on sight, because unlike other games, it doesnt have serious death penalty system to prevent people from doing so.

 

tldr: ffa pvp with no consequences for killer plus lack of non-pvp content make this game not being that liked in eyes of many, me included but i really like the idea behind DF though :)

And i still think ffa games can work, but not without consequences for both player killer, and killed player.

The reason why it (probably) failed to work in DF is that only person that suffers any real consequences is newish-players. And thats about it. You kill a newbie 20 times = newbie quits. Someone finally kills that person that just drove the newbie away = that person goes back to bank to take his next set of gear and is free to pick another newbie(s), trying his best to make DF servers more populated place.

havent played lotro for ages, but im totally gonna reinstall it just to check this one out :D

 i really really want to play a 3D UO, but this is like 10th game that promises to be a 3D UO, so lets just wait and see how it pans out :)

 

sure it does look extremely promising, and i also have purchased the 25$ pack but then again ive spent that much on much lesser promising titles and id much rather support a promising indie company than some juggernaut that decided to spent 200m to outwow wow at... wow :D

Console players have jobs, too. Its not just a PC gamer world out there.

 

completely agree with this one. Console players have money, and mmo companies should give their best to take that money away. so id like them to add a monthly sub on consoles (not internet, just plain monthly sub for owning a console).

 

and from there it could only get better, we could even demand for additional monthly subs on using net + another sub for our mmo(s) of choice.

 

i want, no scrap that, i demand game publishers to charge us much more than they currently are, because we have money and id be much happier man if mmo companies would have that money instead.

 

its a revolution!!! we want to pay more, and i wont stop before we do!

It is TES. The creators of an IP decide what it is canon and what is not. Additionally, every Elder Scrolls game is different than the ones previous, mechanically. A fan of Morrowind could easily say that Skyrim "isn't Elder Scrolls" (some have) if judging it by the former's mechanics, but they would be wrong.

to some extent thats true, they are all different. But heres the problem i personally have with tesO. While morrowind players could easily say skyrim is not like morrowind, as in its not 'tes' enough (and vice versa), teso problem is how former players from all previous tes games will most likely agree with that 'its not tes enough' statement. 

 

basically, what dhaenon said - its just another mmo with tes skins. its not morrowind. its not oblivion, and its not skyrim. We all get that. But 

 

I could care less for TESO not being 'morrowind' enough. But i do care about something else though - teso being too 'wow/swtor' and less tes. Its not that im a hardcore tes fan (im not), but because if i wanted to play such a game theres like 800 games out right now.

 ok i has a question. i never bought this new darkfall (played it for some time on friends acc) but now that its on sale ... 

 

so here is it - im euro, can i play on NA server and more important can i somehow buy it for 14$ instead of 14 euros :D (and pay monthly sub in $ which i understand is 15$ instead of 15 euros and thats just dumb)? I guess im lucky im not from the UK or id have to pay 15 pounds for sub 

 

i know theres a way to do so for steam games ($ instead of euros), but i dont want to purchase it via steam because some people are having problems with DF steam version

UO and Vanguard and umm.... Darkfall i suppose, but that one isnt as robust really. Other than that theres a few games with decent housing, but most of them are instanced :/  I dont bother with instanced housing, for me, if housing is instanced - it might as well not be there at all but ome people dont mind it though :P

 give it another year and they will dumbify it to WoW levels. Its like devs think if they arent making enough money of their game as it is now - if they make it more like wow, or more simple - money will start flowing :o

 

like there arent 1000's of mmos with useless crafting already :/

 

its a huge let down, but lets wait and see what will trion do with our version of Archeage... surely they dont want to have 2x Rift in their mmo catalogue ? :P

Thanks OP :) Some of those features you dont like actually made me want to try this game. Item decay, extensive crafting and open world ... fps? definitely gotta give it a try soon :P
