Mourning, Dark & Light, and now, Mortal Online.

Don't kid yourself, the game is expected to release in a few weeks if the devs stick to their new release plan (February). Are you expecting a miracle patch that will make the game ten times better before release? History has yet to say otherwise and every game in MO's situation has gone through the same problems. No way can it survive unless it becomes a part-time project with very few updates and little attention by the developers.
Don't mis-guide people into pre-ordering this game. What is seen in beta is what will most definately be seen in release. |

Mourning, Dark & Light, and now, Mortal Online.
General Discussion « Mortal Online 1/24/10 1:11:49 PM
My problem with MO is the fact that they are planning to release it in February. The game is not even in a beta stage condition from the videos and such. Now they mention the bad release of Darkfall. MO doesn't come close to Darkfall in any respect, since Darkfall was practically a finished game (lacking ship building and Hulks) but had everything else in. Granted there an incredible number of bugs but the game is now a year old and in tip-top shape. MO doesn't even have the core of what it had promised implemented but will implement it over time after release. At this rate it will take years for them to implement everything they promised and the game would probably be dead by then. It will take years for MO to be complete to what it has promised. The part which makes me think MO is a conn is the price. I mean you are paying an awefuly high price for a way below standard MMO with way below standard quality. Most MMOs that have had bad launches were in a much better condition and were priced a lot lower then the price asked for MO. Lastly, if you like the game fine....all well and good but don't lie to the community! This game is not at all finished, is half a game with a tonne of problems and issues and probably will die. Do not lie to people and recommend it. Most of the people who say they "enjoy" this game are dillusional fanbois believing every single word the developers say. They make the excuse that the game is in beta so it's justified to be in such a horrible state, but it's only a few weeks away from release. They have this incredible fantastic belief that the game will get a miracle patch which will make the game 10 times better then it is right now. I tell them now, accept the game for the current state it is in. It's probably going to launch this way. History has yet to prove otherwise! Don't be a full and half false hopes....they'll only be crushed. Do not buy this game unless you can afford the risk!!! It is not a game most people would enjoy, and ignore the features...they aren't there. Just watch the videos to understand for yourself. This game will die fast; it is a game that will need an active population to make it entertaining and unfortunately in it's current state, that can't be possible since the game is way below the average MMO standard. Games like this always have a tiny population and soon after die or become part-time projects. Don't kid yourself, history has yet to say otherwise. Darkfall may have had a bad release, but it was ten times more complete (at the very least) then MO. Only Hulks and ships were missing and the game was still loaded with bugs, but it met the average standard. I don't play Darkfall by the way, but it was in a way better condition then this game is when it was in beta. |

Henrik, MO's CEO, takes a swipe at Darkfall. Says MO's launch will be better than Darkfall's
General Discussion « Mortal Online 1/10/10 9:27:13 AM
It's just funny how people say MO's launch will be better then DF's but then they admit, events where MO's servers can't handle more then 200 players simultaneously, yet the launch will be better then DF's? What is this dribble about MO having half as much content, all you can do is run around naked and fight people but it's way better then DF's launch?
This statement True, until proven false? Are you people realising what you are saying? A game that is nowhere close to done is going to be better then a game that was practically complete. Ok not the best launch, but the game was practically complete with barely any balance testing done true so yeah, those were some of the main issues. Darkfall needed a longer period of public testing. But that was the reason for it's bad launch, otherwise it was a good game.
Ok, true Darkfall's release was not the best release and quite a bad idea releasing it over a long period of time but it's a success for the market it's targeting. No game has done better so far. All of a sudden a game which seems half complete, the fanbois say may be almost bankrupt, is going to have a better launch then DF's? I particularly like the bit where a guy says even if MO's launch is not as good as DF's at least they launched cause they needed our money and they had no more money and DF had lots of money and took it's time launching. Ok....so better to launch a half finished game to the masses not as good as a full game which didn't launch properly ..... Please realise what you are saying |

EVE sets new record again. Most EPIC pre-existing fail to end all EPIC FAILS.

It's just a fact that in all kinds of Software Development, nothing can be done perfectly nor bug free mate. Hope you understand now, how this is something incredibly insignificant, since we've seen every MMO have an issue like this. |

Unfortunately most of what is said in the OP's initial post to my knowledge, is grossly exaggerated and inaccurate. CCP to my knowledge has always stated they have a total of 300,000 subscribers not players. The reason they say 300,000 subscriptions is to compete with WoW's figures probably and to show the measure of success whether with plex's or not (Plex are paid for anyway).
Another thing is it's impossible for the Population to be a maximum total of 75,000 players at best when on average the server's (not peak time even) population is between 30k and 40k accounts online. Although some will be alt accounts, not all of them will be. Other people have a real life they need to keep up with. At best you can say 1/3 of the game's active users would be online all at the same time but thats just a theory which can't be proven and is based off timezones. Different timezones, commitments and real life hinder people from coming online. And by the way, the 1/3 fraction is nothing to do with the 30k - 40k people online. I don't understand how these figures even if they were true (that the op mentioned) would effect the game's fun factor. Probably trolls mis-informed the OP or something, since no MMO can ever boast about having a larger population on their server than Eve, since Eve has the highest population any MMO could ever dream of having on their server till now. So no it shouldn't make a difference since you will never have a more populated nor could have ever experienced a more populated server as of yet. I'm actually suprised the OP has played for 5 and a half years and not known these details. Some of the information is just way off the radar. Even newbies know some of these details and how to interpret them. |

What is the deal with this games trial?

You have drivers installed but they are old, and need to be updated...
Edit: As someone else said, you may need to stick to console games... |

I suggest we all take a deep breath, breath in and out deeply and accept that the game just launched. Hey the launch was better then WoW's launch till now. Anyway go off and do something else for the time being. Have a break, have a kitkat. |

Originally posted by xcopydave Yeah there are armours which are very close in stats and lvl requirement which will look identical, but I mean for example, you are lvl 3 and you get a new sword that looks identical to your newbie sword. Those similarities. But obviously armour changes when you compare a lvl 20 to a lvl 40, huge difference.
Aside from that you can colour your armours with dyes.....so I think that compensates for that annoyance. But there a plenty of different looking armours. |

City of Heroes: Color? Or Colour? Armor? Or Armour?
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/08/09 4:37:14 PM
The world calls it Football. America calls it Soccer. Unfortunately because their version of football is a totally different sport..."Americanized Rugby" sorta. What I don't get is who came up with the name for it....why Football? You're mostly running with the ball in your hands. I have nothing against it, it's just always been one of those mysteries. |

City of Heroes: Color? Or Colour? Armor? Or Armour?

Well I don't know if this is encouraged in other countries in Europe, but here, our Educational system enforces the UK English language. Spelling words the same way as they are spelt in the US is just incorrect here. What ever the reason, I find that it makes more sense to stick to the UK English language, since I find the rules of the American language sometime's conflict. Like if you say Armor instead of Armour, why not say Contry instead of Country? What happened to the rule of getting rid of "u"? |

I played Korean Aion. Was a Warrior Class. Got to lvl 10 and then had to do a quest to be able to keep advancing as well as evolve into a new class. Thats right you don't have dual classes....never was mentioned. Maybe you are thinking of a different game mate. Once you reach level 10 as Warrior or whatever class you have to choose between two classes to evolve into to keep on advancing. Untill you do choose one of these classes by doing a quest you will not be able to keep lvling (Advancing your character). From a lvl 10 warrior you can either become a gladiator or a templar.
Hope this allows you to be aware how the class system works. |

Looks good, glad to see MMOFPS games are on the rise. Really hope this one is entertaining. Hope to see more FPS games comming up.
By the way sorry about this thread. Didn't mean to actually create it, was intending to reply to a post. |

@ tub0rg
Honestly dude, if I were you I'd go for Warhammer Online. Many reasons, aside from the game being at level (in my opinion) with WoW, it also has a good population. I don't play it cause I hated the service (in Europe) provided by GOA.
Anyway, the best Raiding game (aside from WoW) I've heard of is Everquest 2 . Maybe you should give it a shot mate.
Aion will probably be a little too hardcore for you I believe. PvP is one of the main themes of the game, and you'll see it a lot more then in WoW. No optional PvP either mate. Keep that in mind. |

16 hours play time. You can play the trial in your own personal time. One hour a week if you want, and still be able to play.
You don't have to level to enjoy and do most things in the game right away.
Just try the trial. It's not 16 hours from creation, it's 16 hours of being ingame time. Take your time, you can as many days as you want, but game time will total up to 16 hours eventually and trial is over.
Plenty of time in my opinion.... |

I played one of the very few MMOs last year which was still FFA PvP. There is nothing like it, the experience, the fear, the adrenaline rush, the massive ffa battles, or 3 or even 4 way fights everyone just fighting eachother for different reasons. The politics, the everything!! It's one hell of an experience when a guild and an individual player is allowed to choose his enemy.
I have nothing against people who want a PvE system, but in my opinion Darkfall is NOT that game. The dev team themselves are hardcore pvp fans and some were against the idea of even putting in PvP, but thank god they did.
A game without a little PvE can become dull. Anyway, I have to be honest, this game is a long time comming and putting the option of flagged PvP would be a massive mistake. There just is no design for it and it would just ruin the whole scope of the game.
I ain't a griefer, I just love what comes with FFA PvP; Guild Politics, confusion, the fear and knowledge that you could always be attacked/ambushed. The fact that you can rob someone of his equipment. The fact that you can be the hero killing the griefers. So many different possibilities....thats what I love about FFA....so many possibilities so much freedom to do whatever you want to do. |

Actually....just to have a laugh....I've been following the game for a year now. Since they first went public and started beta I've been following this game. The producer of the game, and what all the devs call the boss is actually intending not to market this game in the wrong areas. They don't care for a high population. This game isn't an MMORPG.....it's an MMORTS....so people don't represent one character, but a whole empire. Population ain't too important. Another thing, which is the funny part is the producer told everyone very early on in ventrillo that he wanted to avoid any mentioning in game sites like MMORPG.com, Gamespot, Hi5 and other sites where there is a crazy and immuture community. So they targeted the more mature and less hyped sites. They don't care for having subscriptions like WoW. This game is their dream game and they want a mature community playing it. They don't want little kiddies whining and flaming on the website and screaming how the game is too hard or too difficult (which it is....massive learning curve for good reasons!!!) This game has been in planning for many many years...if I remember right a decade if not more (I could be wrong there). They were planning it back in the 1990s. Thats all I remember. Just so you know the is the ultimate, hardcore sci-fi RTS on an MMO level which every Empire building RTS gamer has been dreaming of.
Just to mention a few features: Create and modify your own units - Modify every component of a unit...from the engine to its armour all the way to the material used....you can even modify the material itself!! I was serious when I said Hardcore. There is no ultimate unit by the way.....research improves a unit mainly...you can't just put loads of massive guns on a cruiser and expect it to be unbeatable. There are always down sides without proper balance. A whole universe of planets to conquar (although game mechanics make that almost impossible) - You can colonise as many planets as you want, and all have their own resources, which get depleted but eventually return in a random area (random area including any other planet). Resources on a planet are always changing from type to location on the planet aswell. You will never have a resource respawn in the same location...it can spawn anywhere on the planet (where there are no buildings of course. War on a Galactic scale, with planetary battles to massive space battles with space stations...the works.....Planetary bombardments....spaceships shooting from space on to the planet (like artillery). Other Features: Diplomacy, espionage, alliances, galactic scale battles with many players fighting eachother on several fronts. As I said before this is an empire building RTS gamer's dream game comming soon. Apply for the beta at http://www.beyondprotocol.com/ And remember....it's an empire building game.....and an MMORTS.....and it's hardcore.....massive learning curve, so if you don't like it because it's too hard, just leave it alone....don't stay whining just unistall the game. Many of us Beta testers find this game to be ingenious, a real work of art. And brilliantly deisnged, although there have been many changes in the game as well. A lot of the planning they did was in the programming structure for the server. It has an incredible amount of stuff going on...imagine each unit with it's individual components (shields, engine, armour, guns) damage, ammunition. Hard core... |
