AC1 was my first MMO as well. One thing that I think really distinguishes it from other MMOs is that there were no transportation methods aside from the portals, and those were limited in how they were used. Exploring really felt like exploring due to not having a mount and having to run everywhere on foot. Yeah, it was slow, but when you got the portal spell, that really meant something. Looking at the map, I remember wondering if I'd ever see some of the far off places simply because they were so far away. Dumping points in to Jump and Run were fun as well. I may not have been able to kill things very well, but by God, I could jump on buildings. :) |

I say let players have ownership of their characters. When they quit, give them a digital download of a binary file that's useless to all but the curious, with no way of uploading it back in. There, they own it, do what they want with that file. |

I've always wondered about this one. The total number of players on a particular game shouldn't matter, since almost all MMOs use multiple shards/realms/etc (EVE excluded). How many people play on a particular shard? I'd guess between 3k - 10k players. How many of those are separate accounts or just separate alts? Alts could be forced to use the same house, which would be good anyway IMO, since I'd only have to pay for one house. You could restrict home ownership further by limiting it to only those at the highest level. Now look at the cities in games. Take DAoC for instance. The main cities had windows in the buildings. AO had massive structures that you could not enter. Even WoW had a lot of empty rooms and buildings. Each of these could be rented out. Granted, that's a lot of data to load for a single area, so spreading it out more would make sense. I personally would like to see a game like LoTRO allow players to buy and sell homes. The shire has many homes that are not in use. I'd like to see the game sell those houses or give them away via a lottery. Once all the homes are gone, allow them to be sold on the market like any other item. Yeah, some people would get no home, but eventually, if they wanted one badly enough, they could afford to buy one. New expansions that offered up new land would slowly increase the number of natural looking homes and eventually the prices on other homes would drop. It's not a perfect solution, so perhaps offer instanced housing as well for free. Some players don't care about houses. Others do and want to RP with them. For those that want them badly enough, they can buy one. And being able to place a house absolutely anywhere is a fun idea in theory, but UO had houses in the strangest places. And of course all the other problems as mentioned above, I don't think we'll be seeing them anytime soon. |

I have a friend who's met him, and she thought he was pretty cool/nice. I agree with Badger.. it's all about marketing and was most likely the publisher's idea. |

Ah, just read this: "The first ten (10) Guests who are invited to participate in this Referral Program by a Customer who has special Founder pricing terms may take advantage of the Founder pricing terms also. Please visit www.lotro.com/founder for more information regarding the Founder pricing terms." So I suggest a real founder do it since my pricing isn't the founder's pricing. :( |

I just registered a bit ago and it had the lifetime subscription available for $300. I _was_ a founder originally, but I let my account lapse. The original founder price was $200, so I _think_ they just raised it to $300 for non-founders (which I'm not sure if I am or not since I let it lapse). I can send you a referral to see if it helps. |

I have to chime in and add my support for AC, even though I quit it several years ago. I still talk about how great the gameplay was to my friends who are just entering the MMO world. I dumped many, many points in to jump and run so I could jump on to the buildings. :) Great fun. I went back to the game about two months ago and tried the 14-day trial. I was suprised by how much I remembered. Location of mobs, for instance (although I do recall them changing mob spawn locations from time to time). However, I didn't continue, mainly due to the interface. I don't think it had mouse-look, and I can't function with the keyboard only. If they were to update it to a more modern UI, I may return for a few months. Here's hoping that we get a real sequel to it some day. |

I stop and start my EVE subscription all the time, so something like a lifetime would tempt me. Mainly it'd be nice to let my skills just advance even when I'm not interested in playing. I ran one of the skill programs last week to see how long it would take to get just two groups of skills to 5 and it said it would take 604 days. That's not even counting skills I don't own yet, or skills I won't use (like capital ship stuff). That's hella long. I doubt I'd ever do that, though, since I'd still suck after that much time. :) |

Ryzome does this. If you use magic, you advance a magic skill. Fighting advances a fighting skill. etc. Asheron's Call 1 also worked this way (somewhat), which was great IMO. As you did various things, AC1 gave you experience to spend on various skills. |

I started paying attention to them due to the contest, but now that I can read them fairly well, I've noticed myself trying to translate the logos in the screencaptures. I think it adds quite a bit to the game and look forward to seeing it in person. |
