great game :)

The main problem with MMORTS games...most people mentioned big/small army's, solo/co-op plays, payment etc. etc. etc.

Sure all those could be a big problem but the accual problem is Balance of Units. In most of the mmorts's its the biggest problem. That is if they have Faction/Race units.

How Profitable is an MMORTS? If someone made Starcraft Online (mmorts) or Warcraft Online (mmorts) or hell... even Diablo Online (mmorts). And accualy made it good of course. It would be as profitable/more profitable than WoW.

The BIG names will always get profit like Warcraft,Starcraft,Diablo,Heroes of Might & Magic, Final Fantasy etc.

The reason why MMORTS ain't working as of yet (properly atleast) is becouse of gameplay.

Sure some games have proper gameplay like Saga Online and Beyond Protocol. While i didint play much of Beyond Protocol i can only talk about Saga Online since i played it since alpha up to long long time after release (about 2 years total) and eventualy quit it becouse of developers (not the game itself).

What people look for in an MMO-RTS?

1. Building

2. Command Lots of different units

3. Big Battles

4. PvP (PvE not so much)

5.Gameplay

6. Graphics

Sure some people don't look for Graphics much , some don't even like PvP much, but what when they make mere 10% of total players. Same why can't you Huggle (Hold in arms) Male-Male or Female-Female in Perfect World and other games.

Someone mentioned something like a 6v6 players battle where 1 player controls archers, 2nd player controls footmen and 3rd controls cavalry. I say why not?

Online & Offline issues

Sure you can't be online 24/7, some might even be Casual players not Hardcore gamers. Some might have a life.

But its accualy the cause of developers lack of imagination and/or skill to make proper AI.

Hell theres even so called "Super Computer" Mastermind of Chess with all known moves and impossible to beat.

That's 1 of the reasons why no1 wants to play Bot/PC , becouse their too damn stupid.

If a dev made proper AI for their own game they would be good enough to defend your own base while your offline, or copy your play style and use it vs. enemy. IT CAN BE DONE, but the only reason no1 does it is becouse "The Big Boss" doesn't wish to waste time on something like that.

IT CAN BE DONE, Saga Online done it, sure its an alternative as in their AI is extreamely bad (doesn't use abilitys properly and has no knowledge of formations(same like ability , gives passive bonuses when activated) but they done it so , you set the terrain you Can be attacked at, you can lose buildings there but you set it up as you wish and put in units you wish to use, by doing that you can attack other players that done the same, of course if you done it you gain some special resources on daily basis , that is if it doesnt get destroyed in the duration.

But again, the main problem is balance, if devs dont know how to balance, even things like that wont work, and Saga Online is a great example of that. Like that thing i just sayed before, you attack someone and you wish to capture his mines that provide that special resource, but of course its walled and you gotta kill enemy units AND destroy part of wall to accualy get to it, so they buzzed it up and made units that can teleport. yay... there goes the whole idea.

Definitly the best mmorpg with PvP or "Open Field PvP" would be Shadowbane by far.

PvP is fun, like in WoW that has great PvP of course, but PvP without versality to support it means nothing. For example EVE online has a ton of different ships with a ton of different modules/equipment that makes you think on how to build it. While WoW has few set's and few skill tree's basicaly making every 2nd player of the same class exacly the same, in terms of equipment and skills. Of course in that kinda fight with exacly same characters its only different in who has more luck and skill in playing that character yet still quite boring. While in Shadowbane or EVE online you may have enemy with same race/ship/class yet very very different setup, you cannot know your enemy from what you see at first glance and that makes it that much more interesting.

If im trying to find a good PvP game, i try to find many different classes/races with a ton of skills so i can build my character from scratch. After that of course somes in the accual gameplay like Runes of Magic that has extreamely boring gameplay with 0/24 kill rats quests and extreamely bad balance issues (what are the devs thinking? they ever played a game?) while having good class+skill versality with of course fine range of equipment.

I dont mind you coming here asking for support, but rebumping a thread to get 4 more signatures is just sad.

I hope the thread gets locked. Your point has been made, you got your signatures, now shoo!

its sad that we NEED your support

its sad that good games fall couse of company's misstakes

but the saddest thing is that so little supported a revival of an MMORPG.

this game is better than 90% games listed on this site and your saying it sucks.

this game has better gaming options than 98%

and company whanned to make this game P2P for our sakes, all we needed to do was to pay i think 5$ for 1 month, 12$ for 3 months and not sure how much for 1 year. and no it didint require client cost, just monthly fee on the lowest price

F2P is good if Item Mall is balanced and in most game it isnt, so who has more money is the best and not the player who is the best without buying items in Item Mall. but the fun is to beat the item mall guy isnt it ;)

lol that guy doesnt know what he is talking XD he suxzors. uber 1337 nO_ob

i whanned to say same thing ladyrhia did lol

also that guy doesnt realy know how to read you know... as i sayed in 1st text , the topics 1st text:

"it broke down with its company couse of some marketing misstakes they made (game was even low priced so many ppl preordered it just that money they tried to spend never got to company and so their money was returned)"

company's bank in Scotland couldnt accept credit cards (they were supposed to but the program was bugged)

THATS the ONLY reason WHY the game DIED.

some ppl like the game and some dont, he probly didint couse the game wasnt made for PKers but for players who PLAY the game so your main objective in game is to lvl up, arm yourself and follow the neverending story (with that you will always be able to lvl since game has apsolutly no lvl gap) and while you follow the story you get invaded from hundreds of mobs (you can see an example in "worlds end" video)

that guy is probly an noob killer couse he cant handle more experianced players with hes expertise lol or is just

im probably l8 or something but anyway...

The Tech Demo looks nice, colorfull everything lol. I think that maby you can run smoothly tech demo with that small area but try to put on like 100x times more content then see if it runs smoothly. then add some players in it and BAM your lagging like people once did in Knight Online few years ago. by what i see from your tech demo you have great engine, maby even better than Elder scrools: Oblivion. And Oblivion is solo play. So... how powerfull server u mean to have? Better than EVE Online's?

Also my uncle used to say that HOMM 5 graphics sucks mostly couse all the trees and grass move same all the time (left-right-left-right.....) will you make the same or make movements more alive?

Ex-Players Join Together to Petition for the Revival of Carpe Diem MMORPG

On January 22nd, 2007 Persistent Worlds Ltd ceased trading. PW was a European publisher tasked with bringing a popular Korean game, Carpe Diem, to the Western market.

The game was received well by gamers, who found something fresh and exciting in the game's quirky visuals and unique features, such as possession and mounted combat.

But due to a poor marketing strategy, Persistent Worlds Ltd eventually folded, and with it we lost one of the unsung gems of the MMORPG genre; Carpe Diem. Many people were devastated when they heard the news.

Now, a few months later, a group of ex-players have banded together and sent out a call for help. They are creating a petition with the goal of showing the world that the Carpe community has not gone silently into the night. They are still pining for what many of them have described as 'the best online game they have ever been part of'. Many ex-Carpers state that no other game to date has been able to fill that hole in their hearts; not even WoW!

But they are not just relying on the goodwill of some anonymous company exec to stumble across it and pick up the game. They have the backing of none other than one of the former CEOs of Persistent Worlds*, Phil White (previously of Codemasters). Mr White has agreed to present their case to GNISoft (the Korean developers of the game) directly, in a plea to revive the Western version of Carpe. But in order to impress, they will first need as many signatures as they can get.

So, what are you waiting for? Show the guys and girls your support. Whether you played Carpe Diem in the past, or would be interested in playing it in the future, or even if you're just in it for kicks - sign the petition. You don't need to register an account, and it only takes two minutes to make your mark.

It can be done here: http://z11.invisionfree.com/CarpeKin/index.php?showtopic=345&st=0

The community eventually plans to reach 500 signatures, but they would be thrilled to get even more support, as each new signature brings their dream one step closer to fruition.

If you'd like to see some visuals of the game you're helping to save, here is a user made video of one of the game's major events - "The End of the World" - which was to mark the end of Closed Beta. It resonates now as a prelude to the company's eventual downfall http://youtube.com/watch?v=tyt7zfY8xHw

*Persistent Worlds itself claims that it will not be coming back any time in the near future

ok that was copy-pasted from one of my carpe frends. its quite long etc. but it says almost all i would like to say. i as many of you did, has been in search for a perfect MMORPG for me. passed almost all MMORPGs from f2p to p2p. when you look at the list here on mmorpg.com i tryed 90% of em, those 10% are outdated games, FPS games and some games i still need to try. one day, quite long ago, i found myself in closed beta test of Carpe Diem game. it had unique stuff non of games you can see on list has. its a persistant game (always continuing with story line) with great community. even a necromancer most of you know from D2 and even has bone spirit, golem and bone armor :D. aswell as unique playstyle where 2 players can merge into one player that is more powerfull and evrything. now you would think like "how can 2 players play 1 character?" well there are 2 characters in that one, so like both can use skills of their own characters, now more powerfull, but also die together since they get dmg for both of em. and many other stuff like invasions of mobs (yeah like 100+ mobs attacking city) and other stuff. the thing is... i found what i was looking for, then it broke down with its company couse of some marketing misstakes they made (game was even low priced so many ppl preordered it just that money they tried to spend never got to company and so their money was returned). so i ask you all who REALY dont like their games go down (like when we all played D2 , what would happen if it was an MMORPG that company went down along with servers. we would go nuts wouldnt we?) go click the link, you dont even have to register, just say your nickname, e-mail adress for contact and where you found info from. we could use all the help we can get. LONG LIVE MMORPGS!!!
