Patcher stuck on "Downloading Patch Information" .... Please help
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/17/10 12:27:53 AM
Hi, I have un-installed and re-installed. This is my 2nd try and still the same issue, just tried restarting the computer as well to no avail. Strangely enough, the installer was by default installing the game under Program Files/Funcom/Marketing 2 ... not Age of Conan. I have no idea why, is the fileplanet installer borker or something? To add on top of all of this, my original install which I just deleted into the recycle bin has magically disappeared from my Win7 x64 recycle bin. Yup, didn't even bother looking for a solution to that cause all 27 gigs are gone now. So... yeah. I was looking forward to playing AoC tonight! Gah! edit: system restore doesn't restore folders and such just settings. I would still have my newest fail AoC install (I'm 99% sure, maybe I am wrong) |

Patcher stuck on "Downloading Patch Information" .... Please help
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/17/10 12:16:12 AM
Hello, Ahhhh.... I deleted my Age of Conan install from Program Files/Funcom/Age of Conan because the Rise of the Godslayer update was going to take 8 hours with the slow downloading of the patcher. I then preceded to download the RotG client from Fileplanet here: http://www.fileplanet.com/211731/210000/fileinfo/Age-of-Conan:-Rise-of-the-Godslayer-Client . Now, the patcher is stuck on "Downloading Patch Information..." and refuses to move. Help! Thanks -J |

1.06 patch STILL didn't fix DX10. Game killer for me.

It's about 1/4 of what I get in Crossfire mode and most of the AA has to go off as well. Compromises, compromises. I would prefer the issue just be known to be it ATI OR Funcom. It can't be the hardest thing to fix. 10.1 ATI drivers did not fix the issue not did the Funcom 1.06 patch. So it seems neither are working on it. Tis sad, very, very sad. |

If they say they are working on it, that's great. If they contacted ATI and told them to get their stuff together in AoC w/ flickering shadows.
I mean, come on, the game has been out since 08' and patch after patch has seen no fix to this. I even read that the 1.5 patch killed a lot of people's shadows whether it be Xfire/SLI or DX9/DX10. Flickering shadows in AoC seems to be commonplace.
I didn't know about it beforehand. I mainly built this rig to play Crysis on max at 1920x1080 w/ some mods. Runs smooth as silk at 50fps w/ real life-sis up and running. I always had AoC in the back of my mind, and always wanted to try it, but after hearing the horror stories that was release I never tried it. I read that they had implemented DX10 features a while back, and figured by now any problems would be worked out in that department and I would try out the game. I was extremely surprised how much I liked the game. At first, I entered the game w/ DX9 and everything on low and I thought to myself, "this game looks awful, what was I thinking," Threw everything up to max, turned on DX10 and when I entered the game again I was blew away. Crysis water! Then I noticed this flickering shadows all over the place, but also saw the extremely detailed shadows, moving as well ala Crysis. I was extremely impressed. It was always something that I had wanted to see. An MMORPG w/ amazing graphics that pull you in to the game even more. AoC seemed above and beyond what I had expected from the graphics department. Ran smooth as hell w/ 8x AA and 16x AF as well, every single option checked. Of course, advanced shadowing gave a lot of issues. I spent the remainder of the night looking for a fix or anything to ease my frustration. Found a fix for SLI (non driver-realted, some nHancer tweaking,) that fixed it for SLI users. Us Crossfire users are left in the dust it seems. I mean, if it was parallax mapping I could live without it. Any other option, but advanced shadowing gives the game a whole nother degree of realism and it looks great. I can tell because when my character is stationary and the camera is not moving it works! Works 100%! Just when you start moving the shadows start freaking out. Seems like a strange issue, and seems to me like it could be fixed quite easily. The most frustrating part is that I would have thought FunCom would have done something about it by now, that it has been going on for such a long time. I also don't own the game so I cannot post on the forums (who knows if they read them anyways?) Just bid on a 99c copy of the game on ebay and am about to win it here in about 15min. It hurts to turn off advanced shadowing, LOL. My 5970 is asking me to give it some work to do.

I would love to play, but the game just doesn't look too good without advanced shadowing. Biggest change out of all the DX10 options and it frustrates the hell outta me for it to "work," per say, but give you some mad epilepsy if you turn it on. The shadows just go wacko, big black boxes shootin all over the place and shadowing jittering like a bat out of hell. It annoys me the most that, A. Funcom has yet to acknowledge this issue which has been stated A LOT, B. There is no way to contact FunCom and actually tell them to fix their shit cause it is preventing me from playing the game. My 5970 w/ i7-920 @ 4.2ghz w/ 8GB corsair 1600mhz does not want to turn OFF options, it already runs AoC at 60+ fps. I want to play it in its full glory or not at all! |

Errr... I was refering to Crysis... Cryengine 2. It doesn't look that good of course.
But it looks damn near close with all the DX10 effects. FIX ADVANCED SHADOWING ON CROSSFIRE SETUPS FUNCOM! |

I seriously cannot believe this. The game looks great, albeit the damn advanced shadows option which makes the game look phenomenal still DOESN'T WORK with Crossfire.
I mean, people have been complaning about it since August of last year and it is STILL unplayable with advanced shadows on. Now, I can't post on the official AoC forums cause I am just using a trial, would have bought and loved the game 10 times now if they fix that damn issue. The game looks a step below Crysis w/ all the options on and I think my brand new 5970 and i7-920 @ 4.2ghz can run it like butter. Too bad there's no acknowledgment of the issue or anything. They just keep throwing out patches with new content and not fixing the god forsaken DX10. Is anyone else put off by this? When I turn on advanced shadows the whole damn game flickers when you move the camera, if an epileptic walked in the room they'd probably die on the spot. I can't even contact Funcom to tell them that this probably is fckin annoying to many people and it is quite common to use a SLI/Crossfire setup these days! FIX IT FUNCOM! You'd have a 6 month sub from me if you did dammit. Gahhhhh, I want to play the game so bad but I won't do it w/o advanced shadowing, makes the biggest difference in graphics quality i've seen yet. Anyone?! |

I will most likely buy the game unless the reviews are terrible and it is another DDO. But, other than that i'm very excited about the game and i'll be making an Elven Hunter. Legolas ftw! My 1st choice would have been a wizard of the sorts like Gandy, but unfortunately you can't make one

I am gunna have to go with Age of Conan and/or Vanguard. As you say Vanguard might not become that popular because it is catered towards HC players. Age of Conan looks really appealing to me and it has a good combat system and all. Another runner-up might be LOTRO, but not sure how it will turn out in the end.
