LOL. Just check out the responses from Adam's previous articles. Why has he not been hired on yet? Enough of the "guest writer" crap. This stuff is hilarious! |

I am guilty of #5 and will continue to be. Maybe not so much the studio as the people who run them... I won't touch another MMO that involves: Roper, Emmert, Godager, Jacobs, or McQuaid. I won't write off the studio necessarily if they get rid of association with those names... but I just don't trust them farther than I can throw them. (and since we're on the internet, I can't throw them very far!) |

Star Trek Online: First Anniversary Interview
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/22/11 2:21:51 PM
"We’ve learned to take note of constructive feedback and shrug it off when it is less than useful, but sometimes I just wish there was more civility in criticism." Yes, I too shrug off constructive feedback when I deem it less than useful... wait, what? As a beta tester, I know we begged/pleaded/cried for the game not to go live as it did. We spent hours writing up constructive feedback posts telling what we thought were the goods and the bads... and our thoughts were never acknowledged and rarely did they appear to make any difference at all. I made the mistake of buying a lifetime sub. So I guess if I had played consistently... in a few more months, it would have paid for itself. I log in and run a mission or two every month or so. And continue to be disappointed. New things have been added but large problems have been ignored or only token steps taken towards resolution. IMO, before ANY other faction is even considered, the Klingons need a full-fledged 1-to-level-cap set of missions that don't force you to repeat them over and over to level. This was skipped at launch due to the time, right? Ok, so it's been 12 months. Token steps only. If this had gone F2P, then I wouldn't criticize the game so harshly. (yes, I'd still be ticked off at the Emmert/Roper duo for how this was allowed to launch and then still at myself for stupidly buying a lifetime sub) But the game itself would be matching real value to the cost it was charging. |

"At the other, when a title with a required monthly fee adds optional content for sale, it's still called subscription. Wouldn't it be more accurate to call it a hybrid too?" No. |

DC Universe Online: Game Update Patch Notes
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/20/11 12:12:01 AM
Yeah, they're actively fixing it now from what I've read. However, at least the bugs/exploits I've read about have been in since beta. So (IMO, obviously) it's a little late to take action on things that have been around for several weeks. |

General: Top Developer Falls from Grace
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/16/11 11:15:41 PM
Hmmm. I don't think Roper fell from grace. I think he left a successful company and tried to go out on with himself as a lead. And he just hasn't cut it. Hellgate, CO, STO. Done. Won't touch anything he is involved with anymore. I've learned painfully. And McQuaid - well, he talks a good talk. But I was in the early betas for Vanguard and saw very little of the Vision he is so frequently linked with. I tried with Vanguard and even gave it some post-launch time to mature. I subbed briefly and then left it behind. He might be ok as a small part of a creative team but, like Roper, he has proved himself to be inadequate in my opinion and I don't think he should be in another leadership role... even something as small as a team lead position. Unless we send them both over to Facebook games. I hate that crap so if it keeps them busy, I'm all for it. I don't with either to "burn in hell" or for their loved ones to die (or any of a dozen other things I've seen on the forums in regards to them). But I'll pass on what they work. They're a lot of talk, hype, and very little to show in the present. Maybe they were something special once but their glory days have long since past. |

Shouldn't #1 be "can't" rather than "can" -- or am I totally misreading it? |

Hmmm. I'm usually liking Bill Murphy's stuff but the way this article comes across... well, it just feels like he's dragging along some co-workers to give their pros and cons (but mostly pros) on a game that he get crap about when he gushed on and on. Oh well, to each their own. Jon's 2nd and 3rd paragraph as well as the lack of content and the quick-to-cap nicely sum up why I won't give SOE a dime for this. Maybe in 6-12 months, the game will be polished enough for a re-launch. edit: Bill - it's ok for folks to disagree with a game-like. Sometimes it gets a bit vocal. That's ok. I'd just recommend letting it go and moving on with your life. To continue to beat the horse just ties more of your name to a defensive position. I like your stuff but I'm to the point where I'll just skip anything you write about DCUO and hope you get to your better received work. |

"I am taking a break from my TERA column this week..." ... there's a weekly Tera column? didn't realize there was that much interest in a single game. |

Champions Online: Free for All Launch Interview

Originally posted by Azmo Despite the fact that the games were originally developed by the same studio and cover the same genre, that's about all they have in common. I played CoH. I played CO in beta but refused to sub when I saw the lack of response to beta feedback and the decision to go live as it was then. It was just awful and deserved the reviews it got. Some more content has been added since launch. One small step... |

General: The Quiz: Name the MMO Edition
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/26/11 11:19:31 PM
lol. "The Chronicles of the Spellborn" Well, the quizmaster *almost* got the title right. So I guess this means anyone who believes they got a perfect score actually didn't. :P |

I'm not sure how an unreleased MMO can be underappreciated... I mean, it's not open to the public yet to give them a chance to appreciate it properly? |

The question was: which of the 4 choices offered is most popular. Not which of these is better than anything not listed... If they had had a "none of the above" I am very sure it would have won. I didn't like ANY of the choices listed but the Freemium thing was least detested. :) |

You know... I never realized some of these articles were supposed to be opinion pieces -- maybe that should be in the title? Is everything except a review an opinion? (not being snarky, just curious) |

That article was hilarious. I got caught laughing out loud at work when you described your wife's reactions. Excellent stuff! |

DC Universe Online: Does It Live Up to the IP
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/09/11 12:33:33 PM
I didn't really see the question in the title quite answered by the author. Based on my few weeks in beta, I would have to say: no. It had a lot of cool things but most of them could be placed anywhere. The power Fly was really the only thing that made me feel "super" and that could have been in any hero game. |
|

Maybe we should get Bill's definition of "launch." I thought AoC launched fine. A couple of weeks after, people were running out of content and the lack of end-game and missing features causes people to leave. But the launch day and the couple of weeks after were just fine. |

Woot! I concur with the masses on our choice for None of the Above! |
