Pretty fair review, which, of course, still cannot adress the (possible) problems of the game when it releases, but that's gonna be seen when it does release. ^^

My only beef with it is what miagisan already said. Generalizing epople into "casual/linear and hardcore/non-linear"  is simply not true. Lots of people love games like eve, which are far from linear and still are casual gamers and lots of "hardcore" people enjoy linear games.

Other than that, I suppose my main concerns will only be alleviated or proven when the game releases. Thanks for the effort. :D

Meh, Eve is a very bad example because it contains some very linear/carebear careers (industry/missioning), Eve is far from the hardcore game people think it is, lowsec and 0.0 can be harsh but empire is linear carebear heaven.

Meh, all you posted was a rant and you wonder why it got deleted? Also maybe they are running out of funds and have to release now or never...

Holy cow, this is awesome, hope they will succeed into making this as awesome as the books or better.

I am soooo on the wall with this game.  I have tried SO many mmo's and most of the time end up playing through just the free month(or not even that) and then canceling.  They just dont end up holding up to pre cu SWG how fun that was or how good WoW is(and yes WoW has it's own problems too but that's another post).  I've googled for videos of WAR and and quite frankly the game looks pretty ugly to me.  Not much better than WoW which is 4 years old(yes I'm a graphics whore but I will overlook it somewhat if the game is compelling enough).  I just dont want to spend the 50.00 AGAIN for another mmo like I just did with AOC that I only played a couple of weeks before getting bored with it and quitting.  However there are so many good things being said about WAR and I LOVE the enthusiasim of Mark Jacobs every time he talks about WAR(there's a guy who REALLY loves his job!) that I also DO want to run out and get it tomorrow.

I just dont know /shrug

Only one thign to do I guess, go to an internet cafe or games store and ask someone there if you can try it for a bit.

this is the list for the european servers :)

i must say they are confident, lets hope the servers will fill up nicely

Wow... thats 53 servers, almost double of the US.

So in total they are expecting around 350k players in the first couple of weeks. That still seems a tad low given the 900k beta applicants. So it sounds reasonable, but also quite a feat if they manage to fill 350k in the first couple of weeks. They are def. sizing up to Wow numbers, they may aim to have not enough servers on purpose (like wow did) for the media attention it will generate (and with that more sales as was the case for wow).

say 4000 pop per server and 60k CE sold (out), that would leave 80k slots. I don't know about pre-order sales but it certainly sounds like they will be having to add servers before launch day.

Also, have pitty on the Europeans if this turns out to be anything like the 500k sub game it promisses to be. GOA will make a terrible terrible mess of things.

The open RVR concept is an extremly poor after thought, just being able to enter a scenario below or above your level will unbalance things even with the modifiers applied. My advice stay away from them.

35 servers thats the same number Wow had lined up at launch for the US.

You sir know nothing about this game, are a troll, and should obviously get a fucking clue.

Amen.

Man did all guilds in other mmorpgs ring the alarm bell or something? Mayday, mayday this one might actually be fun and we might actually loose members to it?

Btw you claim not to be a fanboy of any mmorpg but failed to hide the fact that you are indeed an Eve fanboy.

Jup, wont be playing the europe servers pure and alone because of GOA. Will try to get my hands on US keys and access like I did with DAOC.

- Classes
- Combat
- The World

The very things WAR didn''t get right.

That hurts.

:)

Ow my troll alert! Dont want your guildies to go and play War now do we? Just the classes statement alone makes this total nonsense. Way more classes with way more variety and depth -> WAR Linear copies of the same everywhere classes ->WoW. In the end game building your class is an art in WAR.

It's an issue of core gameplay:

DAoC had relics on day 1. Relics are the point in DAoC: take it, defend it, hold it for as long as you can. The longer you hold it, the more difficult it becomes. In DAoC, holding keeps in your own territory made your relic guards stronger, while capturing keeps in enemy territory made their relic guards weaker. Day 1.

Warhammer will have capital cities on day 1. Capital city sieges are the point in WAR: take it. You can't hold it for any definite period of time--you can only take it. Holding your own keeps in Warhammer doesn't really do a whole lot; capturing enemy keeps awards victory points, renown, and experience. Day 1.

Explain to me why the latter system is better. Please.

I'm not saying the latter system is better, I know my DAOC. But one crucial part you are forgetting is that WAR rewards you with personal trophies, where is in DAOC only one group out of the entire relic raid got credit (DAOC-NF). If you are looking for DAOC 2, this isnt it, it was never going to be as it was said from the beginning. The reason why they moved away from relics is because of the relic-realm hopping. Heaps of players had no realm pride and simply moved to the side which had the most relics. WAR doesn't have that issue and this will hopefully contribute to maintaining realm pride how it was in the early days of DAOC.

WAR design goals were: fun, limit the grind (if possible leave it out), RvR, be accesible.

Sandbox games are: heavy on grind, depth, harsh learning curve especially when pvp is involved elitist.

One thing that War design leaves entirely possible is DAOC style gank squads. You'll see guilds leading servers mark my words. Group balance and teamwork and skill > zerg.

Bottomline is you say you wanted it to be fun but in reality you wanted it be something it isnt for your set of expectations. If you merely wanted it to be fun you would be having fun.

It will get to you on launch day.

No, you don't understand. I really want someone to explain to me what makes this a good game. I don't see it, but there are so many people who like it, there must be a reason, right? Maybe I give people too much credit.

I never got why anyone liked WoW, but I don't demand WoW players give me an explanation. Because whatever they say, I still don't like it.

The only solution here is for me to just let them play WoW and find games I like to play. And I have found many.

Yay for common sense!

I really do think that you should make four groups: people that played other non RVR MMORGS, people that played early DAOC (up to/including SI), people that played or play DAOC till this day, people that are a total fanbois of another MMORPG and dont want to see their friends/guilds leave.

Group 1 will loooooooove it, simply because of the RvR factor. It's a different experience to what they experienced before.

Group 2 will loooooooove it, simply because it takes them back to the simle days of DAOC emain RvR but in an improved concept.

Group 3 will be critical, where's the depth, where are the long term objectives (personally I can't believe they failed to include relics a o so critical part of RvR), this feels much simpler then current day DAOC, etc.

Group 4 will do anything to bash the game just in order to convince their friends/guildmates to stay (this behaviour occurred a lot during WoW open beta as well then versus WoW).

Long term wise WAR could mean a big influx of players towards DAOC who want the sandbox and extreme depth combined with RvR as it is hwo Mythic always planned this (DAOC hardcore sandbox RvR game, WAR easier accessible well balanced RVR game).

/end input

You forgot to add the part about where everyone makes their judgements and assumptions based of of 1/4 of the game.

"Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover"

Daoc has been out for 1987250928 years, warhammer is in beta.  You haven't even seen the endgame, and your talking about it being unbalanced.  One of the biggest issues Daoc had for a very long time was balance issues.

If I went onto the wow forums and said "Guys i bought this game 3 weeks ago, and got my character to level 37, this sucks! there is no balance, and everyone beats me in duels, this is such a shitty game"

People would tell me to go fuck myself and get lost noob.

Yet hundreds of "READ MY ARTICLE ON WHY WARHAMMER SUCKS" threads are popping up on peoples 3 days of experience during a beta session.

What a silly, sick, sad joke.

OP = Fail.

Errr I'm not talking about the WAR endgame being unbalanced, I actually said the exact opposite.

Edit: and as to the part of leaving out peoples assumptions based on 1 hours worth of play, no I didnot leave them out. Group 4. People that are bashing like that have a motive, the motive is to be able to point to their friends and say see the game sucks because that guy agrees with me now stay with me and lets go do another mission.

You dont have to see how this is a good game for me. Just see how this game is not a good game for you and move on.

The reason why there are so many mmo's out there is so that you pick the one that fits you the most.

You don't like certain features of the game? Fine, you have your reasons. I love most of the features this game has to offer, I have my reasons.

And I won't try to convince you on how cool I think the features are, but please respect people that enjoy the game.

Time to resub to DAOC for you by the sounds of your personal experience.

Sry forgot i was posting on mmorpg.com. Fine the Eve UI is great, the best there is and threads like these don't exist:

http://www.eve-search.com/thread/777784

http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=783206

http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=783218

Nor does eve search give 1335 hits on "fix ui", nor did the devs come out and admit the ui is a mess, nor did the devs even asked a proffessional ui designer to apply for a job ... etc...

Eve UI is the best of all mmorpgs hands down...

"Odd. The GUI is the best I've ever encountered in gaming, bar none, both functionally and aesthetically."

Right, using cascading menus in the middle of a fight is a great gui, doh, not hardly.  Anyone finding cascading menus as state of the art is really behind the times, time for you to get out of the 90's.

The fix is easy, allow any command to be assigned to a key, but they are worried about macro programs which is kind of funny because there are a several different macro programs out there using their silly menus anyways.

Sorry their GUI is still in the dark ages of MMO's, even old UO had a better GUI.

Its strange really ive never used the cascading menues in PvP before. Lets see graphical buttons on bottom of screen for activating modules and guns. click to move and speed slider near damage bars.

And to warp just click on a object and press the warp to button.

Nope no drop down menues here.

Right...  There are drop down (contextual) menus and they are very important and very user unfriendly at the same time, add to that the UI bugs with drone command channels for example and the extreme impractical use of space within the UI. Eve has the worst UI of all mmorpgs hands down.
