Anyway i'm out.

It's not a scam. It's poorly run company that launched a poorly developed mmo and they had no prior experience with either running a company or producing a game.

Honestly most of us are just amazed they actually got to this point.

There's no defense for stupid. You either are or you aren't. Being stupid and expecting someone to care that you were that stupid doesn't mean that we have to care. Actually it probably means we'll be laughing our asses off at you as you cry WAH it's a SCAM!

True. It's libel not slander.
Anyway it was just a thought that creeped into my hungover head at 5am so take it for what it's worth.. not much LOL
I just love that people jump to "it's a scam" because it gets off to rough start or the company is doing whatever it needs to get off the ground.
Sure it's near impossible to buy the game. It's full of hackers and bugs.
I honestly don't see anything unusual or unexpected in anything that has transpired with this launch. As a matter of fact i recall pre-launch that AV said there would be limited quantities available and that they could only afford to have 1 server up at launch.

Listen fanboi...I dont give a ratz arse one way or another about DF. For the sake of its players I hope it succeeds, as I am a fellow gamer. I sure havent spent my time trolling you guys since launch.
That is neither here nor there...the point in question is "what is a scam". DF is selling their game with information found on their web site that is totally offbase for their actual game. Things that have been cut, and not going to reappear are being displayed as of yet.
I cant give details, but there is a thread that gives all that information, down to the detail, if you look on this first page of this forum(dont think it was this thread). It goes thru all the features showing what is in, and what isnt. A substantial list of key items are missing from the implementation of game.
So like I said...it is classic definition of a scam. The very epitome according to webster.
The only reason I commented in thread is cause so many folks are using their own definition of "scam" vs what one in actuality is. Including yourself.
Now spare us the hung over excuse, as you spoke when you shouldnt of. You wanna argue with someone, then take it up with Webster and the English language. Sheesh

LOL i stopped reading after you called me a fanboi. I wouldn't touch this pig with a 800 ft poker HAHA..

Ok read some of it. Yeah i'm sure it's AV's intent to get people to buy the game.. Since in reality it's almost impossible to actually do so. Maybe they just haven't had time to update their site.

Oh and actually i'm hungover yet still a little drunk.. i hate that.. i think i might just start drinking again.. it is 6am now LOL i love vacations!

Yeah.. explain to the bank. "yeah i gave my money to this company. Of course i had to click on their store page 50,000 times over the period of a month just to buy it. This was actually after 8 years of people telling me this game was being made by and indy company and might be vaporware. I really wasn't expecting any difficulty after that! You know store websites are the hardest part of MMO development and all. SO YES i was completely SURPRISED by the fact that the simplest features such as server queues and billing were so messed up!"

Honestly i feel sorry for nobody that purchased this game an now regrets it. It's not like this forum was a ringing endorsement for the game or the company. You didn't listen and now you regret it. WAH LOL.

If you're enjoying the game cool but those who are whining about it now have no leg to stand on.

I cancelled my DFO account over a week ago and just got billed 42 Euro for digital download.
Time to call the bank.

What does canceling your account have to do with the purchase of the game?

This thread is about Darkfall being a ripoff/scam.
I bought the game, paid for it, got charged, cancelled, got charger again.
Thought that fit well in a "scam" thread.

Oh you got double billed for the game. See you didn't mention that LOL.

A good example of a scam is releasing a MMOG, promising never to add any form of RMT, allowing players to invest a year or two into the game and their characters, then adding RMT like SOE has done.

That's not true. If you look on the side of any SOE product box it specifically states that the gameplay experience is subject to change.

Although i agree with you that it's BS :P

oh and a certain guy whos last name starts with S and ends with Y can die in a fire for all i care.

This is a non debatable fact. This game IS a scam / rip off.
Why?
Because they launched it FULLY KNOWING what state it was in. Fully knowing how untested and buggy it was.
They accepted a limited amount of orders for no other reason than to raise money for development.
Darkfall Online is a SCAM.

While i don't play the game i found the following thought funny.
You are from florida. In florida you could in fact be held liable for slander based on the above qoute. Messed up isnt it. I only say this because i remember a case last year where a lady in florida was ripping on a competitor in an online forum telling everyone he was horrible and he sued her into poverty.
Remember you can give facts, but to say it is a scam you must have proof or you can be held accountable for any financial damage done to a company through your efforts to sway people into not purchasing their product.
For instance, you can't stand outside of a car dealer and tell everyone that drives on to the lot that the car dealer only sells lemons.
As far as i know florida is the only state in america that has taken it so far as to include online forums LOL.

Um 2 "brilliant" folks with one stone?
Pssst...check my post above yours. By definition DF is a scam according to their web site.
They will be the ones liable if someone wanted to sue em...not the other way around.
The OPs intention was to troll these brds methinks...but by definition they are correct.
AV is selling their game by scamming. Talking about one thing, and delivering something else.
Other games take things out as well...cause I know what folks are gonna say. Point being they dont leave a smoking gun of a web site standing. All AV needs to do is correct the web site, but until they do they are scamming big time.

Sorry all i see is an indy company having a rough go of their first release. AV would have an easier time winning a slander case than the OP would have defending his view point that the game is a scam and anyone ever involved in a slander case knows how hard they are to actually win.

A scam involves conspiracy to defraud. Proving that AV conspired over the last 8 years to defraud gamers would be near impossible. Not only that. It's completely moronic.

C'mon guys. Take it easy. I bought this game for $9.99 last week and although you can really tell it was developed by a small company it does in fact play well. They aren't trying to scam anyone.

Don't expect fancy graphics or advanced game play. It's just your basic low budget 3d mmo. It's not going to wow you. It's as simple as:

a) receive a quest
b) kill x amount of mobs
c) press a button to make ore into bars
d) press another button to harvest stuff to make potions
e) here's your instanced property - feed some poor
f) repeat.

The game feels rather small and it's very grindy. It's not even on par with the Asian free grinders.

After getting to level 10 and realizing there were 190 more levels.. well i shut it off and i doubt it will be on my pc long. Even if there is more to see or the game does evolve into something more than what i saw, i can't fathom actually putting in the time to get there.

The 3 Stooges started in the 1920's. No they didn't do nutshots but they did everything else. And i still love'm

 There will be none.

 Get ower it, lads.

I have never played a game in 3rd person. It's first person or nothing for me. 3rd person totally ruins immersion. I just wish some MMO would come up with a way to incorporate peripheral vision.

You can't just say you were in the beta. Technically your still bound by an NDA and the mods here will temporarily ban you. You have to use the code. "people who played the game have said" "I saw it at a friends house" "I sat down with the devs at such and such con and they showed me"..

What I liked, and those on the other forum seemed to miss, was that apparently he did have access to stuff 'on the inside'...

Access? Of course he had access. He is the Stargate IP. At least as we know it today. That's like saying "apparently George Lucas had access to SWG"..

I gave up on this a long time ago, especially seeing Tabula Rasa hit the deck, I knew this game would be in trouble.
Don't worry thouhg, if they drop the ball on this, SOE will pick it up like it does every other failing title MMO that hits the market (see Vanguard and MXO).
SOE figures if they can get the 400k in subs they had for SWG before castrating the game and driving off like 350k in subs then it will be worth the effort.

Sorry SOE will not be picking this up. There's hardly anything to pick up. People who have experienced the game are wondering what CME spent their money on. Why would they be advertising on TV for a game in Alpha that had so little done on it? Even Brad says there should have been more. CME has completely failed as an MMO developer.

As little as 5 months ago people here were anticipating a January 09 release. I never lol'd so hard. At that time not even the gate worked properly. You'd think that would be the first thing they'd have working considering it's the cornerstone of the game and traveling within it. They had 1 class in what i'd consider an Alpha state with very few skills. The graphics were an embarrassment even for a game based on a low budget tv sci fi series.

Hopefully someone else will pick up the IP and produce a quality MMO. That's about the bet thing that can happen at this point.

CME wishes it was 10% as good as SOE LOL. SOE at least would have made a game that 200k would have enjoyed and it wouldn't have been a complete embarrassment. CME makes Adventurine look like ace developers!

I have been playing MMORPG game since 99(Asheron's Call).  When I'm playing other games like Rappelz, FFXI, DDO, WoW, LoTRO, any games that has quest.  Which keeps me interest for awhile then afterwhile it just gets so boring because you have to kill X mob to get exp reward.  Actually, it doesn't feel rewarding because its same thing and over even if its different mob, its the quest style kills the fun.
I'll define the "Quest" for MMORPG.  It means you have to set out to figure out or fight to obtain the unique or rare items to help you aid in your way, not for exp.  Quest is suppose to beunique/rare to do instead of grinding quest exp.  RPG means always grinding involved.  The true style of MMORPG is 90% is grinding.. 10% is quest for items, not exp.

Do you even know where the ter, RPG comes from? The original RPG's, like D&D/Rolemaster had no grinding in them whatsoever, The early video game RPG's had little to no grinding in them. The entire game(s) was completing one big quest and often several side quests along the way. In fact, it wasn't until UO/EQ that I ran into any "grinding". Anyone rember taming that wolf over and over again in UO? VCasting firewall on yourself to build magic resist? And then EQ was full of grinding.
I never thought about it before, but it really seems like MMORPG did greatly increase the grind quotient of an RPG. You should be happy.

True but at least in EQ quests didn't come with a Map, compass and a hand to hold yours along the way LOL.

EQ was fantastic. If they could remake the original EQ with Kunark and Velious with a modern engine i'd be happy to give it several more years of my life.

It could be that not one Asian MMO has had success in this market. Even Lineage and Lineage 2 couldn't pull in a sizable amount of American players and they are by far the most successful Asian MMO's in recent years.
American's don't like to grind. We have better things to do. When an Asian developer figures that out they might be able to compete. Until then.. Nobody here cares.

Final Fantasy 11 was pretty successful in US.

If you call 200k US subscriptions successful. At that time that number put it behind. EQ, DAoC and AC.. So i wouldn't call 4th place success.

Well i just got done playing for a couple hours. I went through the training zone and i'm still in the next starter area. It's a charming game. Don't expect great graphics or animations. It's very 90's graphic style. It seems quite stable. It's easy to understand and it's not difficult by any means.

I think for $40 people will be expecting nothing less than what Guild Wars offered at that price point. This game definitely doesn't offer that so i can't see anyone wanting it at their initial price. However, for $9.99 and no monthly fee the game definitely makes up with charm what its missing in bells and whistles. If you're a graphics whore this game is definately not for you. If you modern animations, skill trees with 100 branches or hardcore raiding.. yeah probably not for you. If you want a game where you can chill out for a bit, kill some trolls, pick some berries, mine some rocks and relax... it's a good game for that :P
