The only thing I would add to the learning curve is not so much complicated as kind of jsut LOST once you get out of the tutorial.  The Tutorial was fun but, you are like level 40 when in there and are level 0 when you come out.  While it gives you a taste of what can come in the game it really seems to leave you thrashing about on the floor once you are out.

I really wanted to like this game.  It does have a lot of the aspects of a game that I like to see.  However, after playing it for some time I realized I do not have the time to invest in games like this any more.  Too much RL sneaking in.

I wish it the best because we need more indie games out there and more that are successfull within themselves the better we all are for variety!!!

Let me add one thing.  ANYONE that claims this is a WoW Clone is a clown and needs to be ignored.

I agree on the tutorial. When i got done with the tutorial i was all "WOOHOO" and then the cold cruel world hit me. I think over time they'll polish that transition.

I've been testing this game since February. I think if you're in to post-apocalyptic sandbox games you'll be a pretty happy camper. I can see a great deal of old SWG vets enjoying the game play.

This isn't like other games where devs seem to lie and promise a bunch of shit then don't deliver. It's also not being made by a deep pocketed developer. It's a solid game that i think will improve much over time. I got the feeling that the devs care a great deal about this game not just about filling their pockets.

Consider the critiques on this forum but also try to get in on the open beta and try it for yourself. I'm not really in to the post apocalyptic thing so it's not really for me but it's got what it takes to succeed over time. I've played and tested many games that were much worse recently.

I used to make some good cash selling Plat before the Chinese got involved. Hopefully it will take a year or 2 before the Indians catch on and pick up the slack and i'll be able to pad my wallet some more!!

Oh boy am I suprised to see another flame thread. People should just get over it and stop trying to talk shit at a company because they weren't able to try the game. For god sake we're in May and the game was released in February! GET OVER IT ALREADY!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Aventurine nor DarkFall, I just know how hard it is for an indie company to break through the market and especially how hard it is if you fail. Thing is you can't do shit about it.

Wether they fail or not is up to them and there is no need to care about this. DarkFall is the type of game you like or dislike, like all the other games on the market and if you don't like it, forget about it and play something else, otherwise admit the fact that you are annoyed that you were not able to play the game and that you take your little revenge by punching the desk and yelling or creating flame threads.

And seriously, we all know the mistakes AV did so why keep mentionning them over and over again? It's not like AV is reading this topic and will say "oh I knew I should've done that this way instead! Gosh these members are brillant! Now we can make DF successful! "

So the fact that I did play it (and believe me I'm almost ashamed to admit I paid money for it) means I can "talk shit" about AV? No matter what you say, most people will agree that this has been one of most unbeleivably bad releases to happen in the last few years, and continues to move into the realms of the farcical with AV's piss poor support, communication, coding etc.
Talking about the effect this could have on other indy developers is actually a very relevant subject. I'd suggest that if you don't like these "flame threads", then don't read them.

Actually i disagree that this game will have any impact on indy developers. The reason they are called Indy is because they are small studios with their own vision. Each indy developer is its own unique beast. Some have skill like CCP and others like Aventurine, CME(stargate) and NPCube(DnL) have no chance.. You can tell pretty early on what chance they have by the way they handle their community and how upfront they are.

of course they ruined it. it's like going out with a chick after she broke up with john holmes. you will never measure up!! darkfall has raised the bar, how could any indy developer ever compare?

The only way DFO has raised the bar is when it was raising that metal rod to club unsuspecting victims over the head as it mugged them of $50 LOL.

dark & light, and darkfall really AREN'T the only indy mmos out there.

ever heard of this little game called eve online?

Eve didn't really make waves, though.
And people (mostly eve fans) are saying "at worst, darkfall will end up like eve." So, I'm guessing it's also a small community. I played Eve for a little bit and thought it was cool, but for whatever reason it didn't draw me in enough to keep playing.
I think DF has made the most waves (good or bad) than any other indie mmo.

Hey Gary, put down that crack pipe..
Darkfall isn't and won't be anything close to EVE. Eve is run on a backbone that is considered a supercomputer. Eve pushes the limits of technology. Eve is a sandbox game. Eve has a decent community.
Oh and EVE HAS LORE!
Darkfall fails across the board.
Comparing DFO to EVE is like comparing WoW to Matrix Online....
Eve has been online for what 5-6 years now? DFO will be happy to see its first birthday without declaring bankruptcy.

All I said was that Eve doesn't get talked about as much as DF. I didn't say DF was better (even though I prefer it to eve), I just said it made more waves in the mmo community.

Are you kidding me? Eve is mentioned in tech journals. Eve has had articles in the New York times. Eve is a well known and reported upon game. Eve politics and scandals have made real news outlets write articles. Not to mention the fanfare it's had on this site as well..

like i said.. put the crack pipe down.

Seriously too even think that DFO has had 1/10 the impact as Eve on indy mmo's is utterly assanine..

DFO is losing subs faster than GM is losing money..

Right now the worst thing Aventurine can do is open another server. They need to work on finishing/fixing the game first and then re-release it in NA.

I think it's pretty clear what he's saying. There is no reading between the lines. Just about everyone who played it, Brad Wright, Michael Shanks, MGM and all their other investors know that the game is dead because a) it was awful and b) it was mismanaged.

The only people clinging to hope that it might be released are people who have no idea what the game was actually like and a few hopeful programmers still thinking they'll get paid one day.

OP just free and very helpful advice: next time you'll find yourself in the middle of nowhere with some valuables, just find any water (sea, lake, river, pool), get there and log out. Next time you'll log in by your bindstone...

Why would you do that when you can just type /bindstone_recall and be ported back to your bindstone whith your valuables at any time?

I've played just about every MMO. The game is fun for a few days but man that community just wears you down. For every cool person you meet there's 20 asshats hiding in the bushes (both figuratively and literally) LOL.

I wouldn't really call the game hardcore. I mean it's really hard to lose anything of value because everything is pretty easy to get. Yeah it's FFA pvp and full loot but equipment is cheap and gold is plentiful. The only thing hardcore is the grind for skill ups and those can be macro exploited pretty quickly even after the most recent patch.

Balance isn't as much of an issue as ping is. Fights mostly come down to ping vs ping not skill vs skill. I've been chase by 3 people on mounts and got a way just by running around a big tree a few times then heading up a hill because my ping was better and they couldn't keep a visual on me LOL.

Anyway if you like asshats, griefers, lag, exploits and bugs.. this game is for you.

i give it a 3.5/10 and i'll be very shocked if this game is still alive 12 months from now.

I did meet like 4 really nice people in the week i played. They weren't even carebears LOL..

for a small, indie developer, they sure can churn out a lot of fixes and new content at a rapid rate...

This is a patch: http://www.eveonline.com/updates/patchnotes.asp and I don't see the new content you speak of I do however see all the "small fixes" in a game that had none during beta... or it's 8 years of development... Darkfall is... I don't know how to call it really but that just isn't patching to me. As for the caster bots not working anymore... unlikely. All people need to do is edit them so instead of firing at the sky they fire at a guild mate from another race or something else.
And another "nice" thing about these types of patches with fixes like "You are NOW required to hit a valid target to gain skill in archery" simply means that the new players besides the fact that their new in the game and are at a disadvantage compared to the older players that have their skills leveled up will also take longer to catch up since you can't do the same thing they did(old player fires 9000 arrows in the sky while watching some movie, new players hunt monsters and tries to hit them 9000 times[Can anyone say DODGE?]).

well i'm having a blast... fun game.

I have a lot of interface problems too, and I use G15 and G5 mouse.

I have to disconnect my keyboard after i log in. I only have to do it after the first time i boot the game. If i exit and boot it up again later it works fine.

Weird it may seem, but I know back in beta people had this same problem. The solution was simple if you had a G15, G11, or another G** keyboard. Unplug your keyboard before you turn your comp on and load up DF when your keyboard is unplugged. Try to load the game that way and it could help. Also, after you type your password in, unplug it again and then plug it in when the game is loaded...Hope this helps.

YAY that worked i can play! Thanks man! Any word on if they're going to fix the bug so i don't have to keep unplugging it like that?

So, just as a matter of record; You got a solution for your technical problem on a forum that many fans describe as the worst place to discuss DF. This in addition to trying to work with AV to find the solution?

Yeah.. only 1/5 of the thread actually relates to the OP though. LOL sad.. what's even more sad is it was a DF player that derailed it... ah well... i'll just go gank some noobs and hope one of them is him..

Well after 2 days of trying different suggestions and absolutely no help from Aventurine except for standard canned suggestions ie. "check your firewall" "update your drivers" i have been unable to get rid of the 45-60 second delay when switching modes.

oh well at least i have other beta's to play :) for free...

I found that a bit odd but i could have lived with it.. if it didn't take 60 seconds to switch between modes. Just.. WOW! I was hoping to have some PK fun but that's just ridiculous.
Before you ask yes i have the latest drivers. No my pc isn't a POS. Yes i played with the setting every which way. I'm a gamer after all.
If anyone has experience this delay in switching modes and has a fix i'd be happy to play this game a little. Send me a message if you can fix it.

Its your ATI card.   Darkfall has many noted incompatibilites with the ATI drivers.  Sometimes they work right, but mostly alot of tweaking is required in order to make Darkfall behave.     What I've seen work on other users systems is to run at lower resolutions.   Also disable mouse smoothing.   If all else fails try using an older driver.  Your problem is very touch and go, though.

I've lowered all the setting to where i'd bet my old P4 could run it LOL. Mouse smoothing didn't help either. I can't really go the older driver route since it would cause problems with other games.

Ah well if i can't get it resolved i'll just get my money back. No biggy.

Just.. WOW!

yeh that's a problem lol it didn't happen on my cr@ppy comp, send in a complaint and hope it will be answered this year.

EDIT: seriously though send in a complaint or bug report or something, and if it doesn't get fixed soon refute the purchase with your credit card company if AV is not responding

I didn't have that problem either, but I would email their support team.  I've emailed them twice for minor issues and both times they emailed me back within 24 hours.
Also, you may want to consider a post on the official forums.  This site doesn't really specialize on Darkfall related technical issues.

Yeah i've been in discussion with them tonight. Just hoping someone had the issue and had a quick fix.
