I started playing EQ about a month after it came out.

My first character was a Barbarian Warrior on Bertox. I remember killing bears to get armor from the vendor newb quest. I also remember those damned Ice Bone skellies that would pop up every 10 minutes or so. I think i lost his corpse when i was exploring and fell into black burrow. (don't laugh my pc/video card didn't have gamma correction at that time so it was just pitch black)

Then i started a Barbarian Shaman. Played him to level 40 or so and decided that class wasn't for me. Too many beggers (GIMME SOW BIATCH!)

I took a break for a few months after that and came back on Tribunal where i rolled a Wizard. That was the class i was looking for. It fit like a glove. I did just about everything you'd expect an EQ player to do from that time on. While there were many things i enjoyed about the game i think the best time i had was doing Planes of Power progression with the Aussie guild i was in (Aurora Noctum). Good times. I would rather they never put in zones like Nexus and PoK though.

Necro is a soloing machine.

Which time zone?

Hopefully with 9 groups we'll be able to span all 4 US time zones with a couple groups. I'm CT so i'm good with whatever is decided on by the guild as a whole.

Let's go ahead and say the window would most likely be 8pm Eastern time to 12am Eastern time. That would be late enough for for all time zones to be involved for a couple hours. We could even adjust that on varying days to tighten the groups up.

Mon - 7pm - 9pm ET
Tue - 8pm - 10pm ET
Wed - 9pm - 11pm ET
Thur- 10pm -12pm ET

Something like that might work.

I guess what i'm trying to recreate is that Sunday afternoon D&D group experience. But obviously doing this game with 1 group and on 1 day is infeasible. It would take decades. So we'd have to play more but we don't want to play seperate.

Actually no. I set out parameters for a guild. You can make other characters and play them whenever you like. The idea behind this is to play as one, socialize and have fun. Without strict parameters the levels would get all spread out and it wouldn't really work.

Basically we'll know when we log in we'll be able to find a group, have familiar people to play with and it should make things a lot easier.

Erudin/Wizard for me.

We should make an MMORPG.COM guild.

54 people. We play 2 hours every M-T-W-TH. (or whatever the consensus is)

We plan our race/classes in advance to make sure we have 9 solid groups.

Attendance must be 90% or higher (just so we know everyone will stay around the same level).

Nobody in the guild plays their guild toons outside of those hours.

We all hunt/quest/level together meeting at predesignated areas.

Each hunt/quest/leveling zone is voted on by all 54 members a week in advance.

We never go to luclin.

We never go to pok.

Not even for travel.

Basically we'd be doing Old world, Kunark and Velious. LDON included.

This is just to have fun and be social with fellow MMORPG.COM members and EQ fans... any takers?

Oh and Asshats and people who thnk they're all that don't waste my time. I want people who like to have a beer or 2 (or 24) and enjoy themselves. Laid back people who aren't going to cause a lot of drama.

There has to be at least 54 of us on here that would like to enjoy this game again.

It might take a month to put everything together (guild website/forum and race/class combos) so if you're interested and we get enough people plan on starting around Dec 1st.

Reply with Race/Class combo you wish to play and when/if we get enough interest i'll PM you with website/forum info.

WOW people play that? hit a mob once it dies? 1st ranger quest? wow tough..

is your video card really old? Low spec pc? Those graphics were horrid.

After seeing this i'm not sure what they hype is all about. Think i'll pass. Definitely not my type of game.

I remember beta testing WoW, quitting. Playing at launch, quitting. Playing 5 months later, and STILL they had queue times into 60 minutes plus. Or server lag so bad that playing was impossible. It wasn't until almost a year after launch that servers improved.
While it sucks that companies don't anticipate the player's eagerness to log in and get to playing, it happens to the "best" of them.
You just have to judge whether playing is worth it to you. A lot of people could've and probably SHOULD have quit WoW because of Blizzard's inability to produce servers capable of supporting their player base. But they didn't. And it's still going strong, being the game all other's are compared to (unfortunately).
So yah... worst MMO disaster ever? Not even close.

I still get 15-20 minute queue times a few times a week on Mal'Ganis.

$200 isn't that much money at all. I spend that every 2 weeks on alcohol. Hell i just spent $700 on CHL season tickets and that only last for 5 months.. MMO's are still a bargain.

they have been claiming to have the largest pvp fights for a while. Funny thing is they refuse to acknowledge eve's 1800+ fleet battles as if they never existed.

lol 10 minutes to zone in, desync, disconnect come back find your pod.. I wouldn't call that a battle.. I've been in many 800+ battles and not one was playable.

When can we put WoW out of its misery??

Are you stoned? You surely sound like it. Oh wait - I know... you failed at trolling. I get it.
Why else would someone suggest that a game with over 10 million CURRENT subscriptions should be put out of its "misery". Where, until recently, an estimated 3% of a countries ECONOMY is based off of selling items in the game world.
Seriously though, you're right. The misery of a game that makes about $150,000,000 A MONTH, is in horrible misery. Damn, just close the servers and delete the databases.. it's a horrible travestiy...

LOL you don't really think Blizzard is making $150,000,000 a month of WoW do you? You can't really be that dumb...

I still want SGW to succeed. Hopefully the funding they received was substantial enough for a real dev team to get back in the saddle and get a working (fun) product out. I know I'm dreaming because nothing of their current situation would state this was possible, but I can hope.

They received money to get it released. Not do a complete redesign which is what this game really needs.

Hey, I'm really glad they pulled it off. Good for them.
Does anyone know who is funding them?

Someone very very stupid.

The game is horrible. It's an embarrassment to the Stargate franchise. MGM should do everything in its power to keep this game from being released.

So your saying it isn't filled with pointless quests telling you to goto x and get x of x and bring it to x?
EXCELLENT :D

Nope i think they're trying to say it's a buggy piece of crap cookie cutter Korean game. Shocker..

The only thing I would add to the learning curve is not so much complicated as kind of jsut LOST once you get out of the tutorial.  The Tutorial was fun but, you are like level 40 when in there and are level 0 when you come out.  While it gives you a taste of what can come in the game it really seems to leave you thrashing about on the floor once you are out.

I really wanted to like this game.  It does have a lot of the aspects of a game that I like to see.  However, after playing it for some time I realized I do not have the time to invest in games like this any more.  Too much RL sneaking in.

I wish it the best because we need more indie games out there and more that are successfull within themselves the better we all are for variety!!!

Let me add one thing.  ANYONE that claims this is a WoW Clone is a clown and needs to be ignored.

I agree on the tutorial. When i got done with the tutorial i was all "WOOHOO" and then the cold cruel world hit me. I think over time they'll polish that transition.

I've been testing this game since February. I think if you're in to post-apocalyptic sandbox games you'll be a pretty happy camper. I can see a great deal of old SWG vets enjoying the game play.

This isn't like other games where devs seem to lie and promise a bunch of shit then don't deliver. It's also not being made by a deep pocketed developer. It's a solid game that i think will improve much over time. I got the feeling that the devs care a great deal about this game not just about filling their pockets.

Consider the critiques on this forum but also try to get in on the open beta and try it for yourself. I'm not really in to the post apocalyptic thing so it's not really for me but it's got what it takes to succeed over time. I've played and tested many games that were much worse recently.

I used to make some good cash selling Plat before the Chinese got involved. Hopefully it will take a year or 2 before the Indians catch on and pick up the slack and i'll be able to pad my wallet some more!!

Oh boy am I suprised to see another flame thread. People should just get over it and stop trying to talk shit at a company because they weren't able to try the game. For god sake we're in May and the game was released in February! GET OVER IT ALREADY!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Aventurine nor DarkFall, I just know how hard it is for an indie company to break through the market and especially how hard it is if you fail. Thing is you can't do shit about it.

Wether they fail or not is up to them and there is no need to care about this. DarkFall is the type of game you like or dislike, like all the other games on the market and if you don't like it, forget about it and play something else, otherwise admit the fact that you are annoyed that you were not able to play the game and that you take your little revenge by punching the desk and yelling or creating flame threads.

And seriously, we all know the mistakes AV did so why keep mentionning them over and over again? It's not like AV is reading this topic and will say "oh I knew I should've done that this way instead! Gosh these members are brillant! Now we can make DF successful! "

So the fact that I did play it (and believe me I'm almost ashamed to admit I paid money for it) means I can "talk shit" about AV? No matter what you say, most people will agree that this has been one of most unbeleivably bad releases to happen in the last few years, and continues to move into the realms of the farcical with AV's piss poor support, communication, coding etc.
Talking about the effect this could have on other indy developers is actually a very relevant subject. I'd suggest that if you don't like these "flame threads", then don't read them.

Actually i disagree that this game will have any impact on indy developers. The reason they are called Indy is because they are small studios with their own vision. Each indy developer is its own unique beast. Some have skill like CCP and others like Aventurine, CME(stargate) and NPCube(DnL) have no chance.. You can tell pretty early on what chance they have by the way they handle their community and how upfront they are.
