Know why?
Consistency.
Right so apperantly they have magic/technology/whatever to use lighting and music like that. They also seem to have a culture that likes to party and race. Cool, no problem at all.
But be freaking consistent. If you have lighting like that and a culture that's able to appreciate the flashy then why aren't there any neon-signs powered by that exact same magic all around? Why isn't that special magic used anywhere else?
Why have this entire world that's done in one consistent style and then have a few of these small zones done in a completely different style. That's bad design.

Yes and we have seen so much of the world, amirite?...

For all we know there are neon signs in front of shops and etc :)

Also let's not forget that even if the stuff IS possible magic/tech wise, it does not mean that overall mainstream culture of AA world accepts it enough. For all we know, rave parties and overall that style of music is just a VERY early starting fad to which majority of the world in AA looks like majority of the world looked to personal computers during first days of computer development. :)

Have you seen the video?

It goes out of it's way to showcase extreme change in style.......

That was freaking awesome.

Some major things I noticed that I absolutely love:

- No burst kills, even with multiple players attacking you you've got enough health to at least react in some way. You can't beat them but by playing smart you can sometimes get away.

- Smart CC. From the impressions I got there's no 5 second I-win stuns. When used intelligently (such as near hazards) it seems devastating but the majority of uses seem handy but no more then that.

- Smart healing. It didn't seem like spam-healing kept anyone alive. Instead a combination of healing, CC and even damage on low-health enemies seemed to be the best way to support your allies.

Quite excited by this.

A shared last name?

Sorry, but that is by far the greatest bollocks I have heard. How can I as roleplayer explain my Jedi, my BH, my Sith and my Smuggler all have the same surname? Then better have no surnames at all than this!

Ridiculous.

Uh, look back at the Skywalker's. Anakin was jedi, turned sith, turned back to jedi. Luke's kids all had different paths yet they all shared the last name.

Yes, but HOW can my Chiss Imperial Agent, my Twilek Smuggler, my Human Jedi and my Sith Pureblood Inquisitor POSSIBLY have the same surname?

And how can I create unique first names which all fit to ONE SAME surname?

Absurd.

EDIT: On top, I just now realized: it is the same surname across ALL SERVERS. Meaning, every surname is taken across all servers! Have fun to find something meaningful that is NOT taken! SO NOT COOL.

I completely agree that this is rather silly but there's some hope.

Damion Schubert:

You can choose to do one of the following:
- Display your legacy name as your last name ("Raiel Firewalker")
- Display your legacy name below your name

Raiel
The Firewalker Legacy

- or choose to hide it altogether. This choice can differ per character.

but do you have any comments on the story? Light side / dark side etc?

Sorry, I'm not much for story, just a fun game.  I don't really get into the story much.  I guess it was good...Waiting for the npc to stop talking so I could go kill stuff got pretty old.

As for leveling becoming slow...it probably felt slow because I play alot of FTP MMO's and leveling til about mid-way through the level scale is typically lightning fast....so this felt very slow compared to that.   I might just not be used to that.

Seems to match with most other things we've heard.

If you don't like story and wish to rush to max level you shouldn't be playing a story-based MMO.

Templar = Awesome.

Also love the final biography thing, nice touch.

Good read, thanks for posting that.

Especially good to hear that the pacing is spot on. It's something that just seems missing from so many MMOs and something Bioware in my eyes simply gets.

Take a look at this if you want to know what I'm talking about.

I do not know how you did this but you somehow actually hyped me for GW2 more with this lol (Thought of Tutorial Big Bosses)

ANet is by all means a very good developer so likely they understand this as well.

But comparing past titles as well as the available information to me personally it's clear who the master is. For me that pacing practically defines a Bioware game.

The initial build up with the Reaper visions, building down to the council meetings, building back up to finding saren and discovering his plans, after each mission building back down with crew conversations and side-missions, building back up again to losing a teammate, building back down with either a romantic encounter or thoughtfull introspection, building back up by riding through extensive protean ruins not knowing what you'll find till finally fighting your way through a ruined Citadel to confront Saren and then finally building back down in the epilogue as you emerge from the wreckage.

I've yet to see such masterfull pacing done by any other developer and I fully expect to see it again in SWToR.

I do not know what the art style is, other than it isn't like WoW. It is more 'Animated' than 'Realistic' though. It leans towards a gaming scifi look for the interface elements and they do not strike me as particularly 'Star Wars', but then my view of SW is probably grittier than the newest movies would suggest. The initial environments also did not strike me as SW, more 'Generic SciFi'.

However, the closer you get to level 10 the more the game opens out or the environments open up or something and the game becomes Star Wars. The game goes from 'meh' to pretty phenomenal.

Seems to me that SWToR is stylized and WoW is cartoony.

The first relies on abstraction whilst the second relies on exaggeration.

For those saying that this class looks like the Jedi Counsular, that's because the Sith Inquisitor and Jedi Consular are mirror classes. Just like the Sith Warrior and Jedi Knight are mirror classes. It's how BioWarwe is balancing the classes.

Jedi Consular - throws pebbles at people using the Force

Sith Inquisitor - shoots lightning out of their hands and uses the Force to wreck utter devastation

I'll take the Sith Inquisitor over the Jedi Consular any day.

Sith Marauder - Roars people to death.

We have a winner!

I must respectfully disagree.

2- Is there or maybe going to be cross server group finding ?  I'm more then happy waiting for hours on my server to get a group going , so I can never support this .

Thus far Bioware's stance on this has been very simple:

Cross-server grouping is detrimental to building a good server community and there are no plans whatsoever to include any cross-server functionality at any point in time.

oh, i don't care about manual aiming, i just care that you can shoot at really long range (far enough that you may want to use scope to pick your targets)

Ah right.

From what I read snipers and gunslingers have 35 yard range on their abilities as opposed to 30 yard range for most ranged abilities.

So you've got a slight advantage (17%) but nothing major. What supposedly mainly allows you to snipe are your superior cover abilities. According to the previews I've read the sniper and gunslinger get a lot of abilities that prevent enemies from closing the distance in the first place (without kiting) by making it impossible to leap to targets in cover as well as being able to set up defenses that repel melee enemies and such.

Meaning that if an enemy starts the battle at max range and in line of sight you've got a huge advantage since you'll be the hardest class to close that distance on. But once they're in range you've supposedy got fewer tools to react to that (for the sniper/gunslinger that is. I expect operatives and scoundrels to perform significantly better in close quarters).

Good read, thanks for posting that.

As an adult you're supposed to decide that for yourself. If that's too much trouble you can always ask your mother.

One of the videos (i think it may have been the IA class video) showed the imperial agent on top of a building using a scoped rifle to pick off targets at a distance (screen chaged to scope view with crosshairs).

Can anyone confirm that this was actual gameplay mechanic?  It's in the official video, so obviously  there is no NDA violation.  I am not asking for any additional details on it.  Just confirmation that this indeed is how some of the ranged combat works rather than a promotional animation.

There's no manual aiming in SWToR.

What you saw was likely the animation of one of the IA's skills. Whilst charging it shows a crosshair over the target's head.

forming an opnion of a game for yourself is one thing, but to spread it to every mmorog and SwTOR site online as some kind of "preview" is another. You previewed nothing, you simply stated your opinion.

a preview is a indepth look as specific elements of a title, not a "it didnt feel like questing at all and there is no quest grind" That is a subjective marketing termonolgy for people to bite into. Regardless if it was done on purpose or simply by inexperience at "previewing" games.

If you previewed rift the same way as this game, you might want to pull all those videos down now cause they will come back to haunt you,

You're talking about a review. This is not a review, this is a preview.

There's a difference between the two.

A review is an indepth look at specific elements of a title.

A preview is a first impression and initial look.

By it's very nature a preview is never as extensive or objective as a review since the available material is limited and not yet final.

just reminds me of BRINK, and that was one hell of a fail imo..

I was much more impressed by the cactus feature at the end.

You know what they say: save the best for last.

There is however soemthing that really caught my eyes ,i mean ears.It really seemed like she was reading off of some cheat sheet and not telling us her impression baed on her thoughts. From the start of the video it sort of came across as a website run blog not someone's personal take on the game.

So question needs to be asked,is this her own vblog or does she work for some company and feeding us nothing but advertising videos? If it is her own, good job but i suggest not sounding like you are reading from a paper and give your heart felt impressions, they are much more real that way.

Ah right, found them. Weird that Youtube doesn't put them in the related videos tab though.

Maybe put a link to pokket's channel in the video description?

Nice vid.

Good to see you guys doing more video content, a definite improvement. Hope she'll stick around and provide more videos.

Bit confused by the "episode 11" though.... where are episodes 1-10?
