Looks absolutely horrible. Know why? Consistency. Right so apperantly they have magic/technology/whatever to use lighting and music like that. They also seem to have a culture that likes to party and race. Cool, no problem at all. But be freaking consistent. If you have lighting like that and a culture that's able to appreciate the flashy then why aren't there any neon-signs powered by that exact same magic all around? Why isn't that special magic used anywhere else? Why have this entire world that's done in one consistent style and then have a few of these small zones done in a completely different style. That's bad design. |

Some good info on the Trooper (combat medic) Video
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/18/11 6:27:07 PM
That was freaking awesome. Some major things I noticed that I absolutely love: - No burst kills, even with multiple players attacking you you've got enough health to at least react in some way. You can't beat them but by playing smart you can sometimes get away. - Smart CC. From the impressions I got there's no 5 second I-win stuns. When used intelligently (such as near hazards) it seems devastating but the majority of uses seem handy but no more then that. - Smart healing. It didn't seem like spam-healing kept anyone alive. Instead a combination of healing, CC and even damage on low-health enemies seemed to be the best way to support your allies. Quite excited by this. |

Originally posted by PalmyCloud ANet is by all means a very good developer so likely they understand this as well. But comparing past titles as well as the available information to me personally it's clear who the master is. For me that pacing practically defines a Bioware game. The initial build up with the Reaper visions, building down to the council meetings, building back up to finding saren and discovering his plans, after each mission building back down with crew conversations and side-missions, building back up again to losing a teammate, building back down with either a romantic encounter or thoughtfull introspection, building back up by riding through extensive protean ruins not knowing what you'll find till finally fighting your way through a ruined Citadel to confront Saren and then finally building back down in the epilogue as you emerge from the wreckage. I've yet to see such masterfull pacing done by any other developer and I fully expect to see it again in SWToR. |

Question about something seen in a video
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/18/11 2:35:45 PM
Originally posted by arieste Ah right. From what I read snipers and gunslingers have 35 yard range on their abilities as opposed to 30 yard range for most ranged abilities. So you've got a slight advantage (17%) but nothing major. What supposedly mainly allows you to snipe are your superior cover abilities. According to the previews I've read the sniper and gunslinger get a lot of abilities that prevent enemies from closing the distance in the first place (without kiting) by making it impossible to leap to targets in cover as well as being able to set up defenses that repel melee enemies and such. Meaning that if an enemy starts the battle at max range and in line of sight you've got a huge advantage since you'll be the hardest class to close that distance on. But once they're in range you've supposedy got fewer tools to react to that (for the sniper/gunslinger that is. I expect operatives and scoundrels to perform significantly better in close quarters). |

Good read, thanks for posting that. Especially good to hear that the pacing is spot on. It's something that just seems missing from so many MMOs and something Bioware in my eyes simply gets. Take a look at this if you want to know what I'm talking about. |

Originally posted by I_Return You're talking about a review. This is not a review, this is a preview. There's a difference between the two. A review is an indepth look at specific elements of a title. A preview is a first impression and initial look. By it's very nature a preview is never as extensive or objective as a review since the available material is limited and not yet final. |
