Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks a lot for the opinions and thoughts.

I guess I'll be buying this game in a few days.

One thing bothers me. I heard you could talk to the opposite faction on a PvP server. Is that true?

I just wonder how it works.

Hello there!

As the title says: is there any place for a casual player like me in this game?

Also there are few questions I'd love to see answered:

1. Is it possible to lvl up in this game from 1 to Max just by soloing?

2. What is the end-game of a casual player that doesn't have too much time for a hardcore stuff?

3. How does it feel? :)

I'd appreciate your answers a lot. Thanks!

I'm really eager to learn anything and everything about this game.  My only concern is that there will be a bunch of Twilight fans rping as 'Edward n' Bella'.

Who else is excited about this title?

Any thoughts on the project? Anyone here play EVE/familiar with CCP's work? I've never tried it myself...

Anyone have any predictions about the game or know ANYTHING about it aside from CCP developing it?

All I know is if TOR let's me down, this is probably where I'll head... to Role Play as Edward [jk?]

The real thing about CCP is they have very bad programmers. They still have bugs in the game that were in game for 2+ years, like camera distance jumping (which is very annoying) and others.

They like to do a lot of pointless things and make some very stupid concepts (No, I'm not someone that hates this game, just telling the facts). Like projectile (or others) weapons having some "thing" called falloff (while floating object in space never stops moving, only if it hits something) or some missiles explosion can't hit a target because it was too small.

Also in EVE you have to spend like 6-10 monthes only on training "learning" skills to play normally, otherwise a person with full learnings will be training skill for 20 days and you without them will be training the same skill for 35+ days.

So you can describe this game like: Super very newb-unfriendly and uncasual.

I played this game for 3 years and on 2nd year of playing I found out there is just no way to play on One account, while I was denying that fact for long.

So I guess nothing good* you can expect from CCP.

* you can replace this word for "easy".

The difference is that WOW is a PAID subscription based MMO and as such is the biggest money maker of all single video games in the complete history of video gaming (not even COD launches on cross platforms comes close).

Around or over 1.2 billion dollars a year for these last 2 years alone.

http://investor.activision.com/secfiling.cfm?filingID=1104659-09-63352

Page 36: WOW raised its income from 828 $ million to 939 $ million in the first 9 months of 2008 to the first 9 months of 2009.

PAID subscriptions are just that: a monthly PAID vote for a game you want to play.

So IF people had a chance to vote through the paid subscriptions they made, WOW would be winning the prices every year.

And ... what is more honest and fair ...than people PAYING money to vote.

It sure beats creating free accounts to put free zeros on a free website by a few hundred WOW haters.

Also WOW hate is nowhere as popular as on this site. In fact oustide of this site, WOW hate hardly exists.

Because the old grognards feel cheated because their old games 'died', so they want WOW to die.

It won't happen, because WOW crossed the borders of mmorpg play a LONG long time ago.

So these guys voted the one and only game that is out of the fantasy Lore which WOW pretty much dominates for 5 years now.

----> The long term problem of mmorpg.com is simply that they "promote" an industry but NOT the industry leader which PULLS the money and in fact enables - directly and indirectly -  the pay checks in this industry.

A VERY bad policy in the long run, just to please their 200-300 daily logged in public...

But I guess the guys at mmorpg.com don't even realise it.

Wow man! Exactly my thoughts. Agree with you \o/

Sadly they will ignore the truth and continue doing it ;-/

All this time that I been reading and posting on MMORPG.com I have had the same question. With the amount of people playing WOW why is it not on top of this list? I can not recall even seeing it on the list.

Educate me.

Top Voted list.

* Top Voted Games
* Most Popular Games

 Released

  1. Atlantica Online
  2. Lord of the Rings Online
  3. EVE Online
  4. EverQuest II
  5. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
  6. Guild Wars
  7. Ryzom

People who are enjoying mmos have little reason to come here in search of information about what the next great mmo is going to be.  I would guess that the majority of people on this site are just generally unhappy with most the current selection of online games.

Also, many of the votes or reviews do not get counted after I think it is 6 months?  Few people actually take the time to update their negative review of a game, especially compared to the number of people out to "save" their mmo of choice through grass roots type efforts here.  It is funny how many 'best mmo on the market... that almost no one plays' actually make the list.  I remember auto assault being in the top 5 for a long time, even after it closed down.

I agree. But it's hard to explain. The share amount of people that are playing wow should at least be able to bring hte game up on list. Especially when reading the text I quoted.

I'm believing that people play the game they find the most fun, there could many variables put into that. An even if those that plays the game are not here to vote, yet there are people voting on the game. And are fans, or new players, to wow so under-represented in this matter.

Nvm actually, I just wanted to point out that the most played game is not the only game that can win a best game award.

Personally I started to read the top voted list as what games have more people looking for a new mmo (some exceptions).  If you look at the popular list you see a totally different list of games that actually have activity.  You see a list dominated by games that are actually popular with mmo players and new releases.  It is a very stark contrast between the two lists.

I started to think, for myself, all of those MMORPG.com ratings are just excluding WoW because other games simply can't get close to it.

You can't challenge someone on Formula 1 having a bicycle, that's how it is.

Anyway if game is very unfriendly to the new players and also does not attract them, what's the point of making it? I just got bored playing it because there was no new people. Game felt healthy only when you come to Jita to trade some stuff.

Also stopped playing because I found out you need 2 accounts to play since it will take years for you to tain all of those skills. And not only because of them.

One more thing, I guess people that play WoW are just happy with it and don't come here to vote, it doesn't concern them. And I think it is right mmo players come here to find new info about relases and other stuff. IMHO EvE does not deserve such attention and "Game of the Year" thing.

Also, I never thought of EvE's expansions as an expansion at all, just a big patch. Nothing really new, just a few ships, modules.
No wonder they are free.

so, you are saying the trinity graphics up grade was just a patch?

So they updated 3d models. Nothing special, many games did that.

Also EvE's graphical engine was updated like 3 times, even after that it's still crappy (technically), it still uses 90%-80% of CPU, not GPU. So even if you have some uber GTX295 or something else this game lags (visually) as hell.

Well except this patch, other patches was tiny and never felt like Expansion at all.

Also, I never thought of EvE's expansions as an expansion at all, just a big patch. Nothing really new, just a few ships, modules.

Same here.

Quit being a drama queen. Subscriptions don't say anything for the quality of the game. They just say how accessible that game is.

You see, it's like other ppl tell, think of it as number of votes.
Another example : If the game is crap (IMHO) and boring (Yes, this is my thoughts about it) I do not pay for it, if I like it I'll pay and play. So why subscriptions don't say anything?!
What's so good about the game that very very unfriendly to new players? What's so good about wasting 5-8 monthes to start playing normally?!
If you ask me, no, I dont play WoW, but I think it's a great game since population grows there, compared to other games. Even if not they still have 10-20 times more ppl than any other mmo.
This site and forum becomes more and more like WoW haters habitat. Even rating on this site shows this game is not top one,  while every non-idiot gamer knows that's not true. Since the majority of mmo players still play it and like it I believe. (Why should ppl play something they don't like?).
I wonder how can it be that game having 270 000 of subscribers at the beginning, then raising it to 10 000 000+ can't be the best?

I have been waiting for Warhammer for a long time.  I absolutely loved Dark Age of Camelot.  It was one of my top MMO games of all time and one of only a few that I played for longer then a few months.  When I heard that Mythic was making a new RvR game I was so stoked about it.  I have been hyped for a long time.  I really really enjoy the way they make their games.

But I wish they had made Dark Age of Camelot 2 instead.  I don't know but even though I know better I can't help but feel "WoW" while seeing the game.  Which sucks in my opinion because I just got done playing WoW and do not want to go back.  At least Dark Age of Camelot had a total different feel to it.  I wish that WAR looked more like DAoC then WoW.  Now I know why it looks like WoW.  I know all of the back story on Blizzard & Games Workshop.  And while I am not a tabletop gamer I do know that they are matching the art style of Warhammer.

I just can't help but wish that WoW had never came out.  Then I would be even more stoked about the game.  I still have the collector's edition on preorder but I just wish that they had decided to continue with their DAoC franchise instead.

I mean how awesome would it be to play a new DAoC with no ToA messups and a new engine with better animations and a better UI.  Heck DAoC with the LoTRO engine would be awesome.

Oh well I guess it is just wishful thinking.  Maybe after I get past the look of the game and experience more of the game play I will be more happy with it.  Because I do know that Mythic will get the RvR right and it will be really good.

Will tell you one thing for sure. It is GW wanted to see game graphics a bit cartoonish, just like TT models, so no wonder WAR looks a little like WoW. But I saw WAR IRL on monitor (sadly didn't get a chance to play) and it looks different then WoW. The stuff you see on screenshots looks very different then Live one.

This is very stupid to compare AoC and WAR. Those games have way too different scales. In MMO language it's the same as comparing some lvl 10 character to lvl 50 char. Every AoC fanboi knows that, that's why they try to convince others that WAR is a bad game, to do not loose playerbase.

You just can't compare those games.

On top of that EA is the largest entertaiment company on the globe, everyone will know about their game for sure.

WAR already has 700.000+ beta applicants, while WoW had around 250.000 at the end of the beta.

2. Crafting. - Not sure.
3. Dueling. - It will be there.
4. End game PVE vs PVP. We know its about WAR, but how much end game PVE content will there be? - They said they are going to make 50/50% pve and pve focus.
5. Tactics and respeccing. - As some guy said it will be almost for free. Didn't consider the cost.
6. Starting locations and balancing of zones. How will the races zones be balanced so one race is not favored? - Does it really matter since you can travel to the other starting zones?

8. News on mounts and other forms of travel. - It will be the one of the lastet things to do, same goes to armor painting, cloaks and other stuff.

Remember these are just topics I'm laying out here. My questions aren't listed really.

1. Im fairly certain Guild halls is in for release.

2. Crafting has hardly been touched to my knowledge.

4 and 5. Can you show me a dev post or somewhere they said it? For 5 especially.

8. Thank you Capt Obvious  It never hurts to ask though. Like I said this stuff is basic topics or questions I pulled from other posts.

I've got that info by watching some interviews with Devs. And I clearly remember about pve/pvp focus question someone asked.

About tarctics I heard in 2 different interviews. One guy said you don't even need to respec them, just pick up and load what you like. And another said you need to respec only Action abilitys, their upgrades.

The game is still in beta, things may change.

40% of the player base are going to be Dark Elf females ... see Lineage 2 when it first released for an example.

Sometimes I think it will be like 60%. Since every kid likes DE and every ghay would like to play "only female class".

Not really sure what's fun with the housing? It's just plain boring Imo. Sometimes I think it ruins the game. I always hated housing in Daoc and UO.

Also one more thing. In WAR you are a soldier and always in combat. Barracks should be your home and housing.

I hope there will be no housing. Imo it is pointless and not fun.

Just dislike this idea. Making Auction and enough bank space solves useless housing systems.

You should try WoW for sure since it's the best MMO for now (Not my opinion, 9mils of ppl is the reason why).

EQ2 = SoE. This says everything.

And Vanguard looses subscribers very fast, Imo it's just bad choice, also the 2nd name of this game is Lagguard.

See, its not that easy to sum up. DAoC also featured siege which you mainly saw the "casual" gamers liking as opposed to 8v8 free roaming that the more "hardcore" players enjoyed. The fact is its hard to classify games and compare them but people do it. So i'd much prefer people looking at factual things and making up their OWN opinions on what the game is like. AoC might be a great game, just not the one for everyone.

Im sorry im not being ignorant, the topic title says "Stop saying this games pvp is like DAoC's" -  would you care to point out anywhere in the last year a post where someone has said this on AoC forum in mmorpg.com. I bet you will come up with maybe 3 people with less than 10 posts here. I think its obvious to everyone that both games are fundamently different to each other and also share some characteristics found in most mmorpg's. I've heard of alot of DAoC vets who look forward to AoC though..

I don't quite understand what your goal is here? Are you just trying to say the two game share a small similarity and that overall in your opinion DAoC vets won't be happy in AoC? Based on what you saw in the video you listed? If so I would say that, that opinion if true it is pretty weak argument. Did you also know there are a fair few hundred DAoC vets all happy, set up shop on the AoC boards, with there same guild looking to play AoC? I know that these DAoC vets are looking forward to AoC "Ticket" system in a seige in an GvG environment as opposed to realms.

Seriously though your the first person I've seen who has suggested that "people are saying the games pvp is like DAoC's" pretty much everyone who posts here knows that AoC is GvG and not RvR. Hence my original post to you saying are you sure that you have the right section. You can only really compare DAoC to one other game and thats warhammer online. Both games incorporate more similarities with each other that any other out there.

For any DAoC vet you should try looking at these guilds for AoC:

http://forums.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17 < Guild Hall

Example >>  "Myth Guild" one of the biggest on DAoC: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=30238 - A legendary DAoC PvP guild founded in 2001, who dominated the Merlin server and reigned for nearly 3 years as the #1 ranked guild, and later became a force to be reckoned with as Royal Black Watch on Albion-Gareth. < 1800 forum members...

And "Varking" is a cool guy

Sad Myth is going to AoC, they were fun to farm. They didn't dominate Merlin also, more like zerg with the hordes of Mids lead by Drutt. Any Merlin "vets" remember the Drutt mp3? wonder if i can even post it here( has so much cussing in it ).

Anyway back on track, I don't think AoC pvp is anything like DAoC. AoC by the looks of it looks smaller, 100% guild based with a resource management twist brought in( I like this idea). If anyone played DAoC knows how intresting their realm vs. realm system was so I don't realy need to get into it or expressing my favorite parts.

Not really sure who are you talking about. Played there on mid side for 4 years since the release and didn't see him.

Know for sure that guilds named The Fellowship and Bloodwinter Clan rocked in rvr actions.

Also rvr is not pvp. In rvr you can't go solo and kill stuff if you are not a stealther otherwise it will be pointless.

Daoc's rvr is still the best, didn't see any better in new mmos.

You can't compare AoC and WAR.

It's just apples and bananas.

Those games have different scales, we all know which has bigger and which smaller.

Also hype means nothing, just wait for release. Vanguard was hyped high too and now no one wants to play it except fanbois.

Well, I heard from alotta mor... hmm... people here they didnt want to see all those wowers in WAR. Great. They got a right to think this way. But what about Electronic Arts?

WoW got a developing budget close to $50M. And I've heard EA is gonna spend around $30M for promotional purposes only. So we can asume the whole WAR budget will be even more than a WoW one. And now the question - how many subscribers will WAR need to cover all those expenses? My estimation - a few millions (purhaps 3-4 millions would be ok). Will EA be able to get all these millions w/o attracting wowers? I highly doubt. So WAR will have to meet somewhen wow players' expectation. And it looks like so far it's not gonna happen...

What will EA do if its WAR expectation wont come true? God knows... But not any good for the game that's for sure...

I know for sure EA wants money, and then they want more money. Then more subscribers to get even more money.

I'm sure it's all about money. :)
