No other mmorpgs will have faction pride like WoW has had.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/17/12 1:04:15 AM
First off, all you DAoC hipsters need to back off. Yea, I said hipsters, because you say "Oh, you if you don't know about DAoC then you have no right to talk about faction pride." Now. Ready for faction pride all up on your ass? Planetside. Everyone knew their facton motto and wore their colors proudly. Technology = might! |

I think you people are forgetting that new content doesn't just make itself. By complaining that sub-fees are "morally wrong" is like saying your boss wants you to come in for extra time and not get paid for it. Just because bandwidth is cheap doesn't mean a software engineer is. |

General: Guild Sores: How'd That Get in There?
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/23/11 10:16:51 PM
My friend explained this after WoW first came out. You see, while smashing a sheep over the head with your mace, you tend to damage body parts. Therefore, not all of them are useable and thus requires you to kill more. |

Second Life: Class Action Suit Filed over Virtual Land Ownership

To all the haters - Saying these properties don't exist is like saying websites don't exist - the coding and images and etc exist somewhere and these people paid real money for it. |

I'm assuming most people have never read the Terms of Service fully. In a nutshell, you do not own anything in the World of Warcraft universe- your account, your characters, or any items they posess. You simply rent these things for the fee of 15 bucks a month. Blizzard states that everything you do is THEIR property. Therefore, by selling accounts or items for your benefit, you are trading property that was never yours to begin with. And that is why Blizzard and other companies can do it themselves. |

Would you play a MMO without character progression?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/10/10 12:25:48 PM
Leveling your character is a way to learn your class. If everyone started at max level and could instantly jump in the raids, what's to stop people from making characters they have NO idea how to play and fuck everyone over? Max level is an accomplishment; if you want to play a different character, you start from the beginning. |

I'm assuming he's the first person to do it, so congrats to him. Sorta like the guy that hit the gold cap. The point is, what seems trivial to some means much more to others. I personally think climbing Mount Everest would be stupid and a waste of time, but I'd never call someone out about it. |

Why don't we all stop caring about who did what first and just play the games we like to play? You're not corporate lawyers, you have nothing to gain by arguing this point besides e-peen inches. |

It's 15 dollars a month. But, that's pretty standard pricing for an MMORPG. Now, the difference here is that EVERYONE pays 15 dollars a month and you don't recieve any benefits from having more money than other people. It's about the time you invest in the game and not how much you pay. |

Anyone lose a lot of money trying to get a loot card?
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 12/02/08 11:27:01 AM
Just because it's not advertised as gambling doesn't mean that it isn't. Advertised gambling is usually in hopes of winning money - and there enlies the difference. By buying these cards they don't want to win cash but prizes instead. Say I were to use a crane machine to try and win a stuffed animal - even though a 5 year old could play it, is it a gamble that you might not win? (Yes, some machines do let you play until you win, but not all.) The point is, the company is not to blame for this at all. They said "Hey, there's a chance you can get these special cards by buying our product - but no guarentee." That is the biggest warning of all is saying that these cards are rare and that you in general have to be lucky to win them. |
