Hear me out.

I've had experiences with buisness crashing and burning, and know the signs of trouble.

I got a mail from funcom with this detailed survey. The format is classic example of when a company hires a outside scource to revamp or rework a company in trouble. They have hired a company to assess the major problems.

Funcom really needs to get on the ball because every update I have seen has made things worse and more buggy. The customer service is even worse then SOE. Very unprofessional. Very sloppy programming.

Many people I talk to in AOC are not going to be resubscribing. The servers are not nearly as full as release.

I feel bad for the artist team because they did a great job with the art direction, but Funcom needs to hire some programmers to fix the mess of a code, and hire some real customer service.

I am not a hater. There is alot I like about AOC. There is just more that is making me not resub.

Wouldn't be surprised if the company went bankrupt.  The AoC forums is utter chaos, noone seems to enjoy the game except a handful of fanbois.  They are thinking about making AoC for the 360? LOL this idea will crash and burn, along with AoC and the expasion.

AoC needs an emergency fix before everyone unsubs

Secondly , you ASSUME people are dying for a sandox game but if you look at the market it clearly shows that they are not.

If you are looking for a MMORPG game, and you don't want it to be sandbox, you are thoroughly confused and can't be trusted to even know what you yourself want.

Some of the biggest mistakes being made in development of modern MMO's are related to the lack of understanding that imaginative gameplay trumps graphics, trumps interface, trumps "PvP balance," trumps niche focusing, and most definitely trumps loot.  I have seen what happens to a niche game... you get a small amount of unimaginative players who don't like to play with each other because everything is ultra competitive.  It creates a game where there is no fodder for either the metagamers or imaginative players, and the subscriber turnover rate goes through the roof.

RPG means sandbox.  Anything else that's worth playing doesn't need to be a massively multiplayer game.

100% agree.

People that flame the sandbox genre have no imagination and no concept of the limitless possibilities available

Even if the game launches and it's half decent it will still fail because of it's design and lack of player base and i'am sure lack of content.

For a game like Darkfall you need TONS of players online all the time otherwise you're just running around searching for people to kill and it becomes pretty pointless. If the game doesn't have a massive subscriber base there will be literally nothing to do other than basic PvE crap which can be found done 300% better in games like WoW.

Hell WoW's PvP expansion coming out this year is probably 100 x better then the entire Darkfall game is which is another reason this game will fail.

Of course the Fanbois will chime in now saying it doesn't have FULL LOOTING so it sucks. LOL

Like that's supposed to actually be a selling point to get subscribers or something.

I won't even bring up Warhammer which it would have to compete against among everythning else.

(If) Darkfall launches and is even half playable I see it getting no more than around maybe 10-20k subscribers and holding them for a few months until Warhammer and Lich King are out and becoming a forgotten nich game where there's maybe a few hundred people online at any given time.

My words are good.

You apparently arent familiar with a "sandbox" game.  Lack of content? LOL this game's content is player made, if you havent played a game with player made content you have no idea what your missing.  It will bring all the old UO fans back and a bunch of hardcore players.

This game is going to be Jesus amoung MMO's if it launches.  I hope the playerbase doesnt get big because youll have a bunch of casual playing retards that dont know how to RP in a good sandbox.  I honestly hope all the non hardcore players stay the hell away from this game.

The community is the strongest in a sandbox.

Oh great.  Blizzard already has an empire sitting on millions, all they need is more money and a guys life ruined.

Dumb video.  What are these guys trying to do?  Say coke is a health hazzard.  Its just like any other soda it just tastes great.  Its also common knowledge coca cola has cocaine in it back in the early 1900"s.  Your average drink had about 9 miligrams of cocaine which is an extremely small does and wouldnt cause any health problems other than a slight stimulation.

I agree.

Its amazing how many threads the mods have to close because they are degrading to the game.

This game is a massive failure.  It will die soon

You're gonna have to forgive me for not taking the "hateboi" bait here Magus, Fact is, the game was released to early. Might have been the suits upstairs, or Investors on Wall Street. Point is, AoC was not finished, needed more time in the oven and they relied on the typical idiot MMO gamer to pay the bills while they floundered trying to finish it once the "horses were out of the barn".

I don't think FC will go under because of this fiasco, but can anyone really have confidence in a company that lies, misleads, misdirects, and spins so? Would I invest in a company that courts such bad word of mouth and (lets face it) a shoddy product? No.

Once again, you may or may not be correct. All I was saying was that the usage of current stock market statistics in the middle of a 'Bear Market' is not necessarily a reliable indicator.

You are of course entitled to your opinions about shoddy products, we shall just have to see how many people agree with you in the end. For the time being though, the endless parade of predictions of doom based on misuse of statistics is just plain boring.

Hehe, I don't find it boring or I wouldn't be taking the time to argue with you about it!

The market does fluctuate day to day, I won't say the drop is due to one game, I will say that it, along with all the other circumstantial evidence is that many gamers are sick of paying to beta games...finally!

Personally, I would love to see at least two MMOs released that are worthy of release. For God's sake! We are on the same side in a way. More quality releases equals more choice. Lately, MMOs are a wasteland of broken, buggy, unfinished content. AoC happens to be the best, most recent example.

Well if people didnt rush their games to release people might think its vaporware.  Look at darkfall, they are taking their sweet ass time to release a finished game.  Yet people are still hating on it for being in development for so long and calling it vaporware

People will never be satisfied

I agree, but you completely killed it with your example. Cause a company that barely exists, with their owners doing second jobs to fund their work for Darkfall, which 7 years into the dev process has not shown anything, cannot be considered "sweet ass" time. The best we can expect from Darkfall is something like Dark and Light, if anything. "Sweet ass" time is what Blizzard does.

By "sweet ass time"  Im saying that DF devs COULD release DF in its present state. But they dont want to dissapoint anyone.  And most of your statements are highly opinionated

And DF and DnL are two different games.  DnL followed the casual MMO type genre.  Darkfall is a sandbox game with player created content.  I doubt that if darkfall came out it would turn out like DnL

Perfection?

Anyone who has played an mmo for the last 5 years  KNOWS that the product in question is NEVER finished.I dont P2P for the game to be perfect i play it for ongoing content.

If i wanted a perfect game it certainly is not an online game.A perfect game is 1 that is offline and never crashes and does not (most of the time) require a internet connection.

I dont understand how you can expect at launch anything except a playable game at bare minimum.

What i find even more amusing is that now WarHammer online is expected to release  with fewer features than what was being developed.I suppose that when they saw the sales total of 700k or so it turned into a panic to get it out.Who knows its not as if they will admit it.

As far as Conan is concerned FC has the background to make this a success. Its shown that with its other game AO it can do this.Already they are showing initiative with 1nce a week updates.

Im not a fanboi trust me there are things with AoC that i do not like.I think part of the problem is hype and expectation.

Warhammer will launch soon with fewer features than expected.I guess the same thing will happen then.I dont know but ive learned to lower my expectations at any mmo release.

Theres a difference in releasing a game with bugs and cut content , and releasing a game thats completly and utterly broken.

Wow.

Age of conan for the PC - failure - lost money

Age of conan for the 360 - more money down the drain

New MMO comming out when AoC is still broken? - Company filing bankruptcy

Im mostly a PC gamer.  But due to the absense of good titles on the PC im getting a xbox 360 today infact.

And no, im not getting halo.  I hate halo.  GTA4 , dmc4, mass effect, are some titles im looking forward to.

Especially ff13

Lol, subscribe then checkm out the servers yourself before you go around spewing out doom and gloom just because you already canceled idiots.

Server merge my ass.

Look at warhammer  they are cutting out capital cities 4 of them and the end game of warhamer is capturing capital cities. There is a reason why many guilds are flocking to aoc and not warhammer beta. God i hate idiots who thinks aoc is doomed.  Seriously get over yourselves. By the way WHY did you think they are doing the guild beta thing? My guild left way before they annouced the guild beta annoucement, there is a reason for that. Warhammer is not all godlike that you warhammer fans want it turn out to be.

lol your bashing warhammer and praising AoC and your name is "warhammerr"

First off, im not going to subscribe to check the server status.

Second, AoC is doomed when the next best thing comes out, because, AoC sucks all around.  Little to no content, bugged to hell, features not implemented, its instanced like phantasy star online..

Biggest problem with AoC... Its boring

Im sorry if im a bit late.. AoC is comming out for the 360?????

How much money does FC want to lose?

There maybe many reasons why WAR chose to announce this now:

How do you know mythic was planning to release WAR without the content promised and not telling anyone?  And how do you know they saw what happened to AoC and decided to come clean? Are you on the mythic board of directees or somthing

they probably realized they couldn't meet full content requirements by the deadline and decided not to be an asshole company.

Do you know the meaning of "MAYBE"?

But if i want to answer you the way you responded to my post (and ignoring your use to the word "probably") then  i ask you if you are on the board of directees?

You now how silly your post is? Critising my post and then doing the exact same thing.

lol ok because 2 games are comming out with cutted content that means its the new standard

WAR's recent announcement that they will be cutting back on content when the game releases is a step in the right direction for the consumers.

There maybe many reasons why WAR chose to announce this now:

1. They saw what happened to AoC, all the negative publicity at releasing a game with elements that were promised but not in during released.

They had planned to do the same but are now coming clean.

2.Someone has bought a law suit against FUNCOM for the state of the release, taking issue with what appears on the back of the game box and what exactly is in the game. Not wanting to be caught up with similar cases WAR announced now exactly what will be in the game at release.

3. They have cut content to polish and balance the bits that will actually release on the day, ensuring that it runs smoothly and without any major issue, again so as not release in the same way as AoC.

All in all it is a move in the right direction, for we the player base, the producers have seen that the player base will no longer put up with empty promises and buggy software at release.

And hopefully it will only get better from here on in, with producers giving a bit more respect to the paying players.

 PS:

We maybe getting smaller games on release day......

but then again that's, maybe, what we would always get, let me explain:

In the case of WAR, consider for a moment that they were never gonna release 6 cities on release day, and always planned to release just 2. But after seeing the backlash from AoC they decided to come clean up front.

In contrast to this Blizzard seems only to promise what they can deliver, however small, in the up-coming expansion they have promised the impressive number of ONE hero class. However since they promised only one, no one will be disappointed on release day. And once they are sure that one is working the can gradually release more hero classes.

BREATHE DAMNIT..... Doctor i think weve got a pulse

Mythic is the best damn MMO developer ever.  They are being honest about removing content to meet deadlines.  They don't want players expecting more than what they're actually getting (the case with AoC).

Even if content is removed, it shouldnt hurt the essence of the gameplay itself.  I just hope they took the best from DAoC and threw it in WAR

Got drunk for the first time in 9 months last night.  Thank you grey goose and red bull

All signs point to an incomplete game releasing in the early fall ahead of WotLK so that they can pick up some box sales and hopefully keep enough subs till they patch in what was left out.

Exact same thing with AoC. Only AoC was released in the summer incomplete so they wouldn't have to be in a crowded market in the fall/winter.

You can swear up and down that this isn't the case. But dropping things because 'they simply won't be done by launch' is a sure sign. Not that it's a bad thing, just about every MMOG but WoW and it's expansions has done the exact same thing.

The difference between mythic and funcom, is that mythic actually listens to the community.  If anyone played DAoC you would remember the weekly polls asking you what you would like to see added / changed in the next patches..  So if WAR's main issue is content, and not bugs, i'm sure it will be a hit.  AoC's main issue was content and bugs, so double whammy
