They spend everything on the game. they get a lot of grief for it, but they know spending money on the game is the best thing in the long term.

Lets look at Warhammer.

How much money was spent flying Paul, Josh and and Hickman in Business class around the world in  for years before the game launched?

How much was spent setting up MASSIVE stands at every games event for the year building up to the launch of the game?

How much money was spent advertising the game on all the gaming websites? Remember when they got a full screen ad on wowhead.com?

How much was spent on the HUGE number of servers that they had to close down?

How much was spent on all the Community staff who were hired to watch the forums of the fan sites?

How much was spent on all the marketing staff?

Warhammer spent MASSIVE amounts of money on stuff that had nothing to do with the game and everything to do with hype. it worked. they tricked a lot of people into buying the game, but they left a month or two later.  AV spent their tiny budget on the game. Yes it had problems. Yes they didn't communicate. Yes things have been a pain in the ass. But they knew spending everything they had on the game would be for the best in the long term.

DF has the chance to become one of the rare MMOs to constantly grow rather than boom, bust and close.

I was being humorous.

there is actually 10 magic schools of ~15 spells each so 150 spells currently. rumours of new school(s) being added in upcoming patch.

the "blue" spell is just the first spell you get, mana missile. you have to not be a complete noob and manage to kill the goblin starter mobs making enough money to buy new spells.

top that off with reflect spell and its no surprise he kicks ass even with his pretty cheap gear.

only thing I don't get is how he doesn't run out of mana. maybe he edits out the parts where he goes and hides somewhere casting health to mana and downing mana potions. also why use fireball with all those other spells :O

I agree it sucks. they should probably just take out first person view since its done so poorly. I like FPV but only when done well and switching between modes is anoying.

the point of first person view is to limit field of view when casting/looting etc. and it does work. however I'm sure this could still be achieved with a over the shoulder 3rd person view and then you would actually have player animations that dont completely suck balls.

I know I was abit harsh. its not that I dont expect him to be excited by this. boy I was probably evenmore excited when I got my first set of bone armour, but I didn't make a thread. the guy seems to want to update this whole forum with every minor detail that happens to him ingame. please just make less pointless threads, this thread sounded more like boasting that informative to me. so why not just show off stuff you looted in race alliance chat or something?

I agree, he must have balls of solid steel running around solo with that gear on and I don't think he was even in a clan. I guess someone was going to get his stuff sooner or later one way or another, I'm just very pleased it was myself!

are you serious? you can make bone is like one of the cheapest armours in the game and you can make low quality fire weapons for <400 gold. people go soloing in better gear, even me if I need heavy armour to solo a hard mob. you are also safer without clan when solo because you always have protection of the towers.

Sounds like they will rebuff the cannons too, as right now they are pure lol-worthy, mana missile actually does more on a new char than they do - whats the point!?

 

The nerfed them when people started complaining about how easy it was to level an entire city with them; however, siege weapons always do less damage to people.

tbh they should make them work more like real cannons. slow but hit HARD. so if ship users concentrate fire they could annilate someone but makes them less usefull for just constantly spamming against player city buildings like people complained about.

I got to agree. why post this? its not like it some tremendously exciting pvp like the 100+ battle we had yesterday :D

come back and post pvp stories when you actually kill someone and not just get lucky with help from guard tower.

afk swimming is pointless now. the gains are incredibly slow. just fighting mobs will increase stats a billion times faster.

my experience through all mmo's I've played and subsequent clans I've been in is that americans players generally seem to be younger and less mature. with lots of exceptions of course (hence the bolded generally).

also alfar is a cool race, and I wish I had rolled alfar myself, but they have no racial allies. so alot less people in trade and race alliance chat. and I think most people who roled alfar are PK's or reds. this is because they have the most racial enemies so can kill most people in the world without losing allignment. so the community your going to get is probably the worst.

I don't know what Im more sick of: Generic asian grindfest click-to-move MMOs (Aion, L2, RF) or Generic sandbox completely player run UO wannabe Euro MMOs (Darkfall, Mortal Online, Ryzom).

OMG 3 whole games! only 2 of them released! your being sick of sandbox mmo's is SO justified since there are so few WoW clones and theme park games.

well I am surprised. people in my racial alliance chat are always really helpful to noobs. i'm talking going out of their way to give free gear etc.

what server are you on? what race are you? because there is effetively 6 racial alliance chats (3 per server). obviously some are going to be worse communities than others. my RA is the elf/human/dwarf on EU1.

its definately going make people a bit less partial. I mean if even just one person buys from my signature I will be happy. imagine how much sites like this could rake in from this deal with a huge advert since they can even get more than 20%.

lol well I cant go around spamming threads about it, its advertising. just sticking to t'old sig.

US population is aparently booming. they recently opened up free character transfers to US server so alot of us player originally on EU server moved over. EU population is hurting right now I can tell you, but US server is meant to be great. also expansions soon, should perk up population both ends.

as for need to knows. they just made a refer a friend type thing where the referer gets 20% of the money so if you know a friend who plays then you could get them to send you the money and effectively get 20% of the game. otherwise you can buy the game through the link in my signature or anyone elses and they get free money.
