None at the moment. Chances are I will still be playing games like Guild Wars and Borderlands until either The Old Republic or FFXIV comes out.

True, they have not lost anything yet.  There was already an article on this on massively.com not so long ago.

Not when Blizzard is working on a new mmo it isn't!

Early on Bioware talked about the fact that their new MMO in development (TOR) would have a revolutionary payment method; I think that if Bioware is smart they will release the game as free to play, much like guild wars did, then do what most XBL games have been doing since 2006 and sell DLC.

It's a brilliant payment method on their part on several levels; On the one hand it will provide a constant source of revenue for the company and a constant stream of content for the players, and on the other hand it will allow thousands of potential players who feel woozy about monthly fees to expirence the product, get hooked, and in turn end up dishing out the cash for the content.

I know it sounds shaky for a lot of hardened MMO vets but the truth is from a financial standpoint it is the superior system; I know tons of people who hate the idea of MMOs because of the payment model, however these are the same people who at the drop of a pin will dish out 10, 15, even 20 Dollars for a Call of Duty map pack or a Borderlands expansion.

DLC is a no brainer. Dragon Age dlc made over a million dollars when it released. I could imagine dlc for a mmo would make a ton more millions. :)  If they do use this method I will love Bioware for life.

Smedley happened and now SOE has one of the worst if not the worst reputation in online games.

FFXI one of the best communities ever because it didn't cater to the casuals. FFXIV needs to be the same way or I'll be highly disappointed.

As far as what is better, they both are good systems to play on but the future of mmos will be on the console. There are only 2 mmos on the console right now, FFXI and Phantasy Star Online but eventually there will be more because they are easier to program for and there is less competition for mmos on the consoles compared to the pc platform. Xbox live has over 12 million members and PSN  has a ton themselves. That is probably over 20 million console players to introduce mmos to and for devs to make a ton of money.  The pc is a great platform but more complicated to makes games on.

I've actually had the chance to use one of these, and I must admit that it is pretty damn cool.  I played RE5 on it and it worked like a charm.  The only thing here is that only certain games are supported for it.  Also, you need one hell of a graphics card (I'd go with no lower than a GTX 280) to run games in this smoothly, as it is very taxing on resources.  It's a good product, and it works well, but just remember that it may be a bigger investment than you'd originally think with a new card and all.

Kickass monitor in that bundle BTW.

I created a PC for less than 800 usd, and it plays every single game out there at high settings.

for 800$ i can get a PS3/360 and 8 new games (maybe 7 if you include tax). And i wont have to worry about upgrading for the next 6-8 years. So i can save hundreds of dollars not worrying about upgrades for almost a decade and have twice as many games as you.

Except ofcourse PC games cost almost half that of PS3/Xbox 360 and you can download pirated games and not risk getting banned from the internet for doing so.
As for 6-8 years. How long do you think those 8 games will last you? Maybe a year? Then you have to buy another 7-8 per year so in the long run a PC is much more wortwhile than a console.

Games on a PC are only $10.00 less compared to console games. You also can trade in old console games and get towards a new one, where as pc games you can't trade them in. A good pc can run you about $600.00 and a console costs $300 for an elite. Consoles require little to no maintenance while a pc needs alot more maintenance and eventually cost you even more money.

If you're an up to date member of today's society, you're going to want to have a computer anyways, so that $600 is giving you far more potential use that a mere console would. The cost of a decent gaming rig could be considered the difference between upgrading a standard off the shelf desktop PC to play games, which in many cases is as simple as a ram and/or a graphics card upgrade. Again, that's assuming the average gamer is going to have a PC anyways.

I still love my pc a ton but I think this is a neverending discussion. PCs have better graphics and processors while consoles are more stable and cost less to buy. Both are good systems to play on.

If you have to ask others if you should play a game then chances are you probably shouldn't. Best thing to do is go on the Lotro website, do your homework and decide for yourself.

Almost a carbon copy except Lotro actually has a storyline while WoW's storyline is chopped up into a million pieces. If you played WoW then you know how to play Lotro.

The Old Republic and FFXIV in 2010 and Guild Wars 2 in 2011.  I won't even mention Blizzard's new mmo because we don't know what it is yet.

Unless you are playing an older mmo the wait for a good new one is a long one. The 2009 year for mmos was another disappointment and if The Old Republic and FFXIV don't do well then we have to wait for Guild Wars 2 and Blizzard's new mmo. There are also mmos in the making that will be on the console but who knows if Sony and Microsoft will even let them on their networks.

Who cares wether you can solo or not. How about some developer out there bring some  new mechanics and ideas to the mmo genre for once that actually work.  How many more mmos will be the same ole fedex quests with average pvp concepts that fail.

And you wonder why Blizzard milks WoW like there is no tomorrow. Countries like the U.S., Canada and Europe are just a drop in the bucket compared to the Eastern market.  Even the majority of profit Blizzard and other Western mmo developers comes from the Eastern market.

Same old game with just a different coat of paint on it. If I get bored maybe I'll check it out but it certainly will not be my first option.

I would be more concerned if the game is actually good because if not then who cares what model they choose, not many will play.

Games is my hobby and it lets me step away from the horrors our governements create. Blaming games is just a form of denial that some people in this world just can't accept their own mistakes.

More and more developers want their games on the console because for the most part it is an untapped market for mmos and presents less competition for developers to make money. Companies like Cryptic (Champions Online), Undead Labs (unannounced zombie mmo), CCP(Dust514) and Turbine(unannounced mmo) all working on console mmos. Would a console gamer rather play a mmo instead of a popular shooter ? I'm glad eventually more mmos will be coming to the console but I'm not sure many console gamers accept the way mmos work. What do you guys think ?

There is no point other than people want to and you won't find the logic in it because there is none.
