Right on review, besides the minor issues of the game, which undoubtabIy will be looked over, I believe within time this will be the number one f2p game available, for me it's what has been lacking in other mmo in the past.

They bash a lot of MMO's that aren't WoW.  I enjoy the network and the shows but I have never seen a show praise WoW so much, it's like Blizzard pays them to not bash any of the faults with that game.  Bottom line, Xplay is a bunch of WoW lovers.

Because WoW is the cool nerd on the block. If you don't like the cool nerd, you aren't cool.  And Xplay desperately wants to be seen as cool.

Too bad they fail.

Seriously... that's why they change their set every 5 shows. It's kind of ridiculous. Xplay pulled the "10 million subscribers" can't be wrong card... and that was their only reason (in that episode) saying why WoW was great.

Anyways, I think pretty much everyone who doesn't play FFXI right now, or at least in the past, will have a very negative opinion of it. Look at D_Machine's posts in the other thread on here... he hadn't played in a long time yet still said he knew that this game sucked. People like him are all over the place, and why people have a negative opinion of FFXI.

However, reviewers have tons of games to review. When they see a crappy 3 hour long game they are happy - less work for them in pushing out a review. When they see an MMORPG, something that takes hundreds and hundreds of hours to even see a lot of the content, they are probably pretty mad. Do you guys really think they put the necessary hours in to *really* review an MMORPG? I don't.

Yeah I agree. to review mmos you need months of analysis and quite frankly people don't want to put the time on it. In general people who have played FFXI till mid levels are really irrelevant, there is many children that are infesting the mmo scene now a days so because they see a nice, structured mmo catered for a mature audience and then try it, they jump and don't like it anymore because 'it's too hard' but really the problem is that it's not simple minded as other mmos in the current market.

took the words right out of my mouth there, every mmo game they compare it to WOW and now every consolevgame having to do with action/adventure and or rpg they compare it to Mass Effect, I mean they are great games, I own them both, but if they don't resemble these games in anyway they are for sure a downfall in they're eyes.

I was looking for  a review in the site, and funny how long time ago when they reviewed FFXI for the first time they gave it a 2/5, now I look up the site for a review, and find a more constructive review and not a 1 min one, like the ridiculous ones they air on TV. I can tell that this was actually written by someone who has played the game, and experienced it. What I don't get is that right off the bat they start bashing games without giving them chances, they have to understand that the MMO evolves, does not stay the same over time, something these two idiots are well aware of, but refuse to acknowledge, in the review that I read, also they pin in a video "Final Fantasy Theater" what a laugh I had there, years of wonderful games how they floor through, and I wont spoil it for you, watch till the end, the most crucial part and you will see what I mean by these posts.

I swear all the time I watch the show and they talk about MMORPGs, when it comes to FFXI they do nothing more than bash it and minimize it till nothing more can be said to actually put a possible newcomer to the game watching that biased show. That game has a loyal fanbase and players in the millions, may not have 10 million subscribers like wow, which i'm willing to bet that they are not all playing, but it is a damn good game, for followers of the series and non followers that want to play FFXI please do so, it is very different than others, and really need effort to accomplish something, and you actually feel a big sense of satisfaction. Those two ignorant people hosting that show are nothing more than spreading the fanboyism disease around, you have to be the judge of the games you play!

Holic Online is a MMORPG created by Netgame, the people of Netgames already created some succesfull MMORPGs like Scions Of Fate, Hero Online & Ares.

Holic Online is currently in its OB phase, the OB began on 17 february.  Before the OB there was an CB. All characters of the CB where sweeped away, so you wont find extremly high levels yet. The graphical style of the game reminds me of Ragnarok Online, but with the slight difference that Holic Online is 3D. This means the characters got huge eyes, oversized weapons and monsters look really cute.

In Holic Online you're able to choose from 2 races. The Human race called Seneke and the Squirrel-meets-Human race called Koshare.  In the beginning you can create a character and you can choose of 5 classes: Monk, Priest, Warrior, Rogue & Mage. When you turn into lvl 10 you're able to choose your second proffesion. With a push on a button you can choose between your 2 proffesions, this ability gives a whole new dimension to your gameplay. By exemple you can you the buffs of your secondairy character to make your primairy character even stronger

In Holic online you can have some pets. There are 2 different sorts of creatures: the pet that fights on your side and the mount that you can use to transport you pretty fast. I don't really know alot about these pets, I've only saw 3 different sorts of fighting pets and 2 sorts of mount.

Another cool function of Holic Online are the UserCreatedQuests and the UserCreatedDungeons. With this option players can create their own quests and dungeon, this is, I think, never shown in a MMORPG before.

Conclusion: If you like a mangastyled game and don't mind alot of grinding then this is the game for you. If you join me on Holic Online add me: phatpete!

well as far as another Final Fantasy  mmo, it seems rather bleak, but the company "Square-Enix" aside from Final Fantasy XI is handling other MMOs' at this moment, they are available in Asia to play, and they are and going to be even free to play.

Maybe you can try the Xfire website, they show gaming in minutes statistics everyday, I would say that World of Warcraft is the most popular, that's a no brainer.

it's the same old thing over and over again, I would probably recommend this to a pvp enthusiast, but that's about it, in fact people were arguing about the grind level, incredibly slow, graphics are dated and the server performance is very questionable, it's in open beta at the moment, the USA/Canada servers.

does it have non pk channels though? I saw somewhere it did.

The visual presentation that Final Fantasy XI presents is now very outdated, there is nothing that you can do really to make the graphics look less dull, I used the Vibrant option from the Nvidia panel to kinda make the visuals just that "a bit more vibrant", that out aside, what kinda graphics issues are you having? I have the same card as you and the game runs and looks pretty, do you have the latest video drivers? also you might want to pump up the anti-aliasing and the anistrophic filtering, with those at 1280X1024 looks very nice, not to Tabula Rasa or Lotro standards, but nice.

HI, I was just wondering if this game was open pk? meaning that you can be pked anywhere at anytime? or is it just by maps? or maybe even a pvp area, thanks in advance.

I played Final Fantasy XI for about 5 years, and i am retired now for a number of years as well, it was an awesome experience, like none other, I recently also played wow for a number of months, almost a year, joined guild and got 2 lv 50+ characters, it was a very fun experience, and very straight forward, it seemed more casual to me than Final fantasy xi, as i said before the game is awesome experience, but after so long it just starts to be like your second job, but in this case you are paying instead of getting paid, again with wow it was fun, but I lost interest fast, as you may have read some of the facts about the game from previous posts above me you will see why, i'm not gonna bother detailing them again, stick with Xi i guess until you see Aion and GW2, there is tons to do in that game a side from lvlling, as you would already know.

Conclusion would be the people talking really good about this game made an account just to tell  everyone to play the game. And oh I almost forgot.. to hype and rate the game max.

And people that has been on mmo posting for a long time kinda see throu it and are not intressted at all.

Well I have been playing mmorpgs for more than 7 years now, and I barely hang out at mmorpg.com and post, and you do not have to have a thounsand posts in order to be taken seriously, I have tried the game out and surprisingly, it's pretty good, I would recommend this to anyone even more so if they are playing Goonzu or Trickster or Pionline, it's nice.

wut is a good starting race to play, and wut is a good pvp race
2. how much difference does cash shop items make in terms of pvp in this game
3. is it possible to convert bones into gold? or buy cash shop items w/ in game money? cause im not plannin ever to pay for it
thx for any help

I think every class is pretty balanced out, as the gameplay goes, if you hit after lv 30 and do not mind being killed by almost always a group of 3-4 players numerous times then your ok, it can get very frustrating, you cannot change bones to gold. Supsossively the items do not really gives advanatage to the buying player.
