I think the initial sales are so high they might be able to break even sometime this year. Sad thing is that AoC has zero future and the retention of subs are really low.

I think every mmo player should walk away from the game to teach them a lesson. Personally I have to think twice before playing another Funcom game again. At this point I can't see that happening..

I think every reputable mmo in the future should give away the client and first month for free and then charge 60 U$ for the 2nd month and 15 for the following months. This sales model would sort out alot.

Makes me giggle when even the pitbull thinks that 1-30 was awesome

Everywhere even the worst haters agree that 1-20 was awesome.

I think it was not.

It was disneyland for me, not a dark and gritty world. Ever been to Temple Street in Freeport ? Thats what i think is dark and gritty.

You girls and guys are reading it wrong. Actually this is solid information.

They do mention that calculation subs is kinda uncertain

They do meassure their sales by counting the acctivated keys. They really seperate out the boxes on the shelfes (Technically those boxes are sold from Funcoms point of view, but not really sold to customers).

They do  not connect the number of activated keys to the subs.

They clearlystate that only 20% of 700k boxes is made money.

The hard(er) information is in the sentence about expanding sales by adding more localized versions. Fact is, they lizenced AoC to a company who will localize and run the game in poland. I am quite sure they will try to find more partners. They have an office in china and that joker isnt played out yet.

Impossible to compare.

Sigil released with a clear warning. "We are nowhere near finished" and i was one of those who didnt crash back at release. Personally i had a smooth VG launch, only grouping was impossible for me with my old rig. The biggest downer back then was that Kojan ended at level 18ish and the oldfashioned grind gameplay. The HL quests at skalwra rock really annoyed me. I took my first break after 8 weeks. Not due to the game, but due to the community. I never canceled VG tho.

Technically my AoC launch was smooth too. But the gameplay was to simple. I was a follower of secret world. I participated in the early riddle on the net. That was basically the best stuff i ve ever seen. Stuff that stimulates the brain. This riddle brought me to Funcoms other game AoC. Because of that i had high hopes into AoC mature rating. But the game is not mature (enough) and the gameplay is extremely restrictive and boring.

We need new game tags. mmorpg isnt sufficient anymore. We need to divert into CMMO and NMMO. CMMO is clasic gameplay with a 1-2 year long term motivation and NMMO is what AoC, TR and a few others try to sell. I understand the industry wants us to buy NMMO and i hope they burn in hell for it. However, HAHAHA, Blizzard's D3 is going to show those ***** what a cool NMMO is :P Again :P

In the category CMMO VG wins, in the category NMMO AoC wins.

Darkelf rangers ??

Darkelves cant be rangers from start. They have to betray. I guess there are maybe 4 or 5 worldwide ;) But serious... only a few enthusiasts and roleplayers will have one. My ratonga mystic is rare allready :P

Maybe you should re-think about the ranger idea and try a brigand.

Crafting.. you have 4 choices. Either you love the fluff. The go for the carpenter. Or you want a usefull craft for combat. The either provisioner for your own food, alchemist for your own poisons (predators aka, ranger and assassin use them) or jeweler to craft your own skill upgrades.

Socialism is as I already said about equal reward for everyone without taking your action in consideration.

To be social is to build a crowd for an easier life. That way you can fight an attacking lion or get rid of the flees ;) Its not about equal reward. The monkey who slept lazy all day long has less banana then the monkey who gathered a lot bananas.

Ok first off I am comparing it to WOW. So maybe thats why I think its more of a hardcore MMO users game. I do belive though that the average person cannot jump into VG and be good at crafting and diplomacy. Hence being for more MMO players.

Second off my first Post was sapposed to be to get thoughts on the two idea's and some other poster totally side tracked the post into some kinda of  "what hardcore means".
I havent been playing very long but the online community is great and helpfull. Please dont turn these forums into what Blizz considers a "forum".

Does the average person where you live have an IQ below 70? There is nothing complex about VG's crafting system period. It's on par to EQ2's crafting system which while more interactive is not that "hardcore" other then gathering large amounts of mats to craft.

While i dont think the crafting is hardcore it is above EQ2 crafting. You have to manage your stats and care for cloth and tools and you have to learn how the catalysts work on subcombine level and finishing level. You have to go out and find/do the crafter quests. Interaction is needed, you need other crafters for some quests and to upgrade your cloths.

Its definetely deeper then EQ2 crafting. The problem is that level 18 to 28 can be sort of hardcore crafting.

And to the guy complaining about the graphics, this game has what, like the 3rd best graphics of any MMO to date after AoC and LotRO, doesn't it?

Its both. People have to understand the history of VG. The world is big and a lot of devs worked on it. The game also was released in an emergeny rush due to lack of money.

The result is that some things in this game are ace and some are sub par. Animations, graphics, adventuring and diplomacy for kojan humans is ace. Monk and disciple really have kung fu animations. The landscape looks like china and the lore of the diplo quests is chinese folklore. There is even a quest where you fly over the roofs like in those old kung fu movies. ;)

Other parts, like the gator caves are subpar. The whole cave has a ugly brownish texture. It looks like a 1999 game inside the cave.

The submarine areas are dead zones. No plants, no fish, nothing. At the same time there are lush rainforests. Some rocks are perfectly txturized, a few others not.

Some landscapes are breathtaking and others look silly/unfinished.  Some dungeons look cool, others dull. This is all because the game was released to early and some content was rushed in a few weeks.

An the client still has no AA. With  x2 or x4 AA the game would look much better in many areas. And the engine is much better indoors. See the screenshot of the psio in the other thread. Its an indoor shot. Outdoors the lightning is lacking  a bit.

Turn it how you want it. The numbers of the other thread seem to be quite accurate. 8 of 13 quit after the first month.  Well, it doest matter. A few more sold boxes and the game is refunded.

Me thinks you  post is shameless.  Your kindergarden psychology bores me out of my skull.

If you want to sell something you should try a bit harder.

Instead you guys need to worry what your current MMO can do better so AOC dosnt take every last sub they have. Funcom is the most loyal company to their subscribers and does a way better job at communicating than any other MMO company has ever done.

So ask yourself when is Funcom gonna buyout whats left of Blizzard and SOE very soon I am thinking.

LOL, what happened to this thread ?

I think all, players and haters/bashers, agree that this game is not the big next thing. It barely survived launch and the devs just try to put it on its feet again with their limited resources. I guess they would be happy if the game would recover to 100k players. There is no need to bash it

The good news is, that the game is very playable if you can cope with the gameplay.

I really like exploring large locations and finding things that I wouldnt be normally be lead to. WoW for example has a large world but every nook and cranny has a quest leading you to it, and every mob has a quest associated with it. I really enjoyed the days of Asherons Call where I would explore the large world and at random find things that either werent on the map or part of the mainstream quest areas.

Its a mix of both. Ofc there are quests leading you into different places. But the places are huge and even if you quest there for 3 days you might not see all of it. There is always some exploration. I quested for about 3 days in river valley until i found the camp of the mad tribe. Those guys even offered quests and so far no other quest was leading me there.

The games (quests) dont take you by the hand. You often have to search for something. If the quests tells you to hunt x on the ridges of the area you probably have to search through a lot of ridges until you got what you needed. Often you cant move straight across an area and you have to find a path.  I d say there is a lot of exploration.

I dont fear they mess up other classes. To be a successful shaman raid tank you need to spec AND itemize for it. They even have to add items to the game, because there are not enough shaman tank items in-game. Same for caster or melee DPS.

I do fear they mess up the current shaman setups. There have been quite some stealth nerfs to the shaman. Mid30ies the bear is no tank pet anymore. He cant hold aggro. Not even against the shamans solo power. Not even in medicore gear with  balanced melee, healer, caster specs. Currently  the wolf probably holds aggro better with his dps then the bear with  his taunt. To many stealth nerves...

I do fear us shamans will loose versatility, not gain. And this change is unnecessary. Shamans are fine, no bugs and ok balanced. Why again fix stuff that aint broken ? Many people just asked one question on the froums: Why ? Talisker and Cas keep blabbering about deeper gameplay and dps and blablabla. But they dont answer the why. Aint that suspicious ?

You forgot to add about six more "Verys' there guy....when I saw it I honestly thought Ed Wood came back to life and was making Movies again.  The movie was orginally going to be Conan 3, but Arnold read the script  started laughing and walked out of the studio offices. I just pray to god that Dino and Raphella never get near any other Howard property again.

Indeed, but I think that even with 6 more "verys" it would not be enough and even Ed Wood would be capable to do a better movie.

I never understood why they got Kull as I though Kull was never famous in US as Conan was, but what you said about Conan 3 was maybe the reason...

I didint know these details about kull/Conan 3 and Arnold, good to know it now and as you, I hope for the same.

...

Kull  (Conan3) or Conan, Sorbas or Schwarzenegger. Doesnt make much of a difference. All three movies arent that great tbh :) I like the combat more in Kull... just some of the actors aren that great in Kull.

I d rather like to see a Conan movie styled like one of those old movies. Lets say like "The Mummy" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023245/). Some dark and evil story about a warrior and a deep story about acheronian evil ;)

I don't mind huge quest lines as long as it doesn't involve massive camping and a raid guild to finish them. Also, the storyline in the quest has to be good.

But these quest lines should consists of three areas, one for the casual solo player, one for the person who likes to do things in a small group, and one for the person who likes to raid.

My days of camping for an item for a quest are over. If I can't get the feeling of doing something big with a small group then forget it. Which is why I like the small raids in DDO which is just two groups.

I agree with you eugam.

Camping is silly and has nothing to do with playing a game.

The best example i can think of is the "Mark of Awakening" in EQ2. It has solo content, group content and one raid. But the raid is balanced in a way so a casual family guild can beat the dragon. After all its a game and not sport.

I dont mind hardcore raids, but quest raids should be balanced for casuals. Unfortunately i have seen different family guilds dieing because of the raid endgame. Those raids are balanced for the hardcores with a optimized setup of classes and CS style voicecom communication. That doesnt work for family guilds. I have seen guilds who tried to force it. The result is very sad.

Another failure of gaming companies. My guild was one of the largest on the server and we had 20-40% female players and quite some kids of guildies. I dont think we have been a minority. Still the devs like to care 100% for 25yo male uberguilds and neglect a huge part of their playerbase.

So are Funcom doing a SOE?

Populations seems to fall and the last Patch is not the best.

P.s - I'm not trying to Troll, I'm just asking. And no I will not go back to WoW. So don't tell me that. And no, you will not have my stuff.

Depends on how you look at it.

For some AoC needs a NGE badly, for others not.
