I understand they released a patch this morning. I can log in but when I get to the start screen and choose "start" I get a connection error message. Sorry to post this here but we have no official forums and the main website says nothing about servers being down!!!

Let me ask you this- since when did the MMORPG AAA Title release bar get set to "No problems at all".  This is the smoothest release of a AAA title yet, and yet it's not good enough?

I'll give you four quickly that had very, very few problems at launch, those that did exist were extremely minor(by even non-mmo game release standards):

LOTRO

EQ2

Guild Wars

City of Heroes/City of Villains(both)

---------

FFXIV is no anarchy online on launch day but it definitely makes the list for one of the worst launches of all time.  Hopefully it will improve like AO did overtime, maybe then it will be worth putting my hard earned money towards.

All I want to know is what makes the FFXIV launch so horrible? This is a real question and I would appreciate a real answer; not the blindless rhetoric that seems to be prevailing in this thread.

The launch wasn't terrible per say, it was actually smooth. It was the overall released product is what people are upset about. It basically started when you created a SE account (which was a chore in iteself) and chose your subscription. Basically put the sub fee is 9.99 + 3.00 for one character. So yeah the 12.99 sub fee isnt bad considering the average mmo is 14.99. If you want more than one character factor in 3.00 each toon for the overall sub fee per month.

Getting to the game itself, visually it's stunning. Awesome graphics and it gives you the FF look. The UI is different but definately not user friendly. It has a look of a old old outdated mmo. It's very very clunky and the chat system is meh. If you don't pay attention to the chat screen you can miss tells or requests. The lack of npc voice overs is pretty disappointing. The biggest problem with the game is it you dont know at times if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing. I have found myself running around absolutely lost like "what do I do now?" There are just a lot of things in the game that are not explained (like choosing the astral moon/sun at character creation).  I had no idea what linkshells or retainers were. It's hard to keep up with chain quests at times. I know FFXIV isn't supposed to be a "average mmo" but if they fixed the UI and made it more user friendly I think it would appeal to a lot of people. So I don't know. I am still in the headstart but I am already questioning if I will sub after my 30 day trial.

yes servers down for maint

Bought the game for 79.99 and paid 50$ online for crysta. I login with low settings with a beast computer and internet. BAM, same lag as in beta. The ONLY change is the hardware mouse. You still can't use full screen so i'm stuck using windowed mode.

I honestly don't even know why I bought it. I have been playing Lord of the Rings online and enjoying and I randomly went to the store and bought FFXIV to see if the lag was gone at launch LIKE THE FORUMS SAID.  <-----

Really, its just a bunch of FFXI fanbois who are trying to praise the game when really they are helping SE scam you. This game is so laggy its unplayable. 3 out of my 4 levequests bugged out completely. Then I go to grind monsters, BAM "Target is already engaged"  Literally no monsters in a 500KM radius that I can attack. Lets do something else? OH WAIT, thats all you do in the game, KILL MONSTERS. Then run 45 minutes back to town to search another 2 hours for 1 ingredient you need for a bronze bar so you can craft a plate to MAYBE craft a boot. YESSSSSS! 130$$$$$$ That is worth it. Because the game is new and shiny, I must buy it, right? Wrong!

Save money, don't buy this. There's plenty of other games on the market.

You can use Full screen. just goto the Square Enix folder and select the config option. You can adjust your settings. Have you tried this?

I read march too, they are probably just wrong.

wait...we have to have a "active FFXI" account to get the FFXIV items??

I thought you needed the discs to install the game with the buddy key?

I hate the interface click and buy has....the account set up seems awfully long but hey the bright side is if they mess up on billing they cant much anyway lol....

Does that come in the box?

It should be in the DVD case with the rest of your codes, but yes you have to register the keys BEFORE you create a character!!!

jesus, these are last minute questions.  and some of the most redundant i've ever seen.  i hope you get the answers from fellow mmorpg forum posters that you're looking for.  i'm sure they'll be top notch.   like mine.

I wasn't a beta tester and the videos floating around on you tube didn't exaclty answer my questions. I did get some answers from fellow mmorpg forum posters. I apologize if it was so painful that you just had to login in and post a response with absolutely no positive contribution.

Ah great! Thanks for those who answered my questions.

1. Ok, I understand this is an "online" game. So I just want to confirm that there will be lots of other players online that you can group with, chat with and interact with?? I want to play a mmo not really a solo rpg. Can anyone shed some light on this?

2. I understand FFxiv will be more of a PvE type game but is there any PvP based activities??

3. If this is a level based game, how many levels are there and how many characters can you create on one account??

Thanks

Woops....wasn't aware of that either.....guess its off to closet shelf for this title

Why don't you try the free trail first to get a real impression? Instead of relying on some review or ingame movies.

Yea, you prob right. I wasn't aware there was a free trial available.

I bought a copy of Fallen Earth. After further review and watching Youtube videos, I don't think its the game for me. Unfortunately I could not get my money back since Best Buy (policy) I was wondering if anyone was interested in trading Keys. I havent used the key. Looking for a EQ2 expansion sentinal's fate key or let me know what you have. I'd figure someone else could use this key before I toss it on the shelf and forget about it.

The patch came out and it was HUGE! It contained a lot of things. We all know the negativity that are associated with these net forums...especially the third party ones. Fact is Cryptic has communicated what they have done and are going to due with projective dates. They added new content, and opened up the c store where you can get your extra character slots and extra items. The game itself still has me interested (probably because iam a star trek fan) and as long they continue to add things and work on it, I think it will be all good. Of course if Cryptic didn't do anything then people would be up in arms complaining about that. If Cryptic added new stuff but it wasnt what a thousand different players wanted then people are complaining about that too.......see the trend here?

Still no storyline missions for Klingons and still not much to do once you max your character. Once you finish those new 2 hour missions then what? Adding extra stuff to the C-store isn't anything to crow about because that means even more stuff a player has to buy that should have been in the game in the first place. Respecs and extra character slots should come with your subscription to the game. And please, don't try and make believe that Cryptic are these great communicators. They make big promises, don't deliver and then claim they never made the promise in the first place.

I personally played the game to be a federation captain....not really Klingon. So the Klingon stuff didnt matter to me. I know there are those that want to be the Klingons, etc. I think if the Klingon stuff wasnt ready then they should have not included it at the release.....oh wait.....you know what kind of uproar that would have caused. They left the Klingon stuff in and people are still upset over it. The C store stuff was made well known in advance, you do get a free respec then you have to visit the C store after your free one. Cryptic has been posting things in the dev forums as far as what they done, what's ahead, etc. So, as I said....I enjoy the game for what it is. STO is not the golden perfect mmo but then again which one is eh?

I see the denial and apologia.

There is no denial. Seriously, 99 % of new mmos that  come out are all flooded with posts like yours and others that just constantly whine and complain about "oh we weren't given this" or "we weren't given that" etc. Seriously, everybody wants something for nothing it seems. I am just saying I enjoy the game for what it is. You like it, awesome if you don't well like someone said something about capitalism....don't buy it!
