AoC is doing awesome :D . I think funcom is doing a good job at tweaking game stability and then implementing new content. I got excited when they said they plan on AoC lasting longer than Anarchy Online. |

Who, exactly? Loss of customers is loss of customers, regardless. If you like AoC, you want people playing it...more subs equal more money, equals more content, updates and improvements. Unless, of course, you want the game to fail faster than it is currently. Actually I'm laughing. You guys really should take a look at how it changed. I played when it first relased and left because fo the memory leak issues. But I came back for the two-weeks and was so impressed about the changes I resubbed. To the OP, First, It's a combo system you shouldn't be doing max damage if you don't get teh combo right. And usually I can't amek teh first hit if I'm not next to the mob (yay melee). But I just come to expect it, it doesn't bother me or many others It alk to. It sounds to me like you need a new computer. I run a mid-range machine (AMD Athlon x2 64-bit dual-core, 4 gigs DDR2, and a Radeon HD3650 1-gig video card, Win XP 64-bit OS). I run this with all the graphical options turned all the way up. Because it's mid-range I expect the textures to load longer but again it doesn't bother me. I guess I must have the patience of a saint when it comes to this game but in all honesty they did make a ton of positive changes which show they are headed in teh right direction to get the game on track of where it needs to be. Unlike companies int eh past who just give up and falter instead giving it their all to improve a game (*cough* Flagship *Cough*) these guys stuck around in the bleakest hour and continued to work because they love their job and their project. This game is a vast improvement over what was launched. |

Honsetly I think it comes down to play style. I have a guard and a conq. Guards are really the tanks of the game. They can use sword and board to tank where as the conq can only use 2-h weapons and dual weapons. The conq can wear full plate but I think that was just to even out the warriors to make em all plate wearers. I view conqs as an off-tank with damage capabilities. Guards are slow to level but honestly you can level fast enough in AoC to where it doesn't seem that bad really. Right now my guard is juggernaugt spec for tanking (even though I'm still leveling him). I also switch between sword and board and polearm depending on tanking or just solo questing. My conq on the other hand will stick with heavy armor and use 2-h weapons. But other than that their skills seem to be different but have the same objectives to them. My conq has skills for just regular melee and then 2-h melee. My guard on the other hand has regular melee, shield abilites, and polearm abilities. So, yeah, between these two it's mostly a play style thing. Do you want to be the steel wall that your enemies haplessly throw themselves at? Or do you want to be the heavily armored fighter who can wade through hordes of enemies with your weapons, chopping and slicing along the way? |

I understand a community can be a bit...harsh, sometimes. I jump between two characters really. I have my necro on Cimmeria (RP-PvP) and my guard on Wiccana (PvE). Both have great community but there is an ugly side to them. Just last night on Wiccana a guy was CAPS vocalizing his opinion of the game and how he hated it. But when it came down to why he hated it was when the flame war started. And it seemed like the entire global community on Wiccana was up in arms bashing this guy for basically hating the game for the dumbest reasons. He hated the combo system for combat and he said the graphics were horrible other than those two it was mostly just I hate this and I hate that". It was still going when I logged. But I was so amazed about how fierce then entire community was at defending their game. I sat in Old Tarantia the entire time reading it as it happened. Sometimes it just depends ont eh server really. I notice that the PvP servers tend to be a bit more brutal but that's almost RPish regardless if it's a RP-PvP server or not. In teh world of Conan if you're weak you die. And that seems to be the mentality of the servers, which is completely understandable. But when it comes to new player they have a New Player Help channel, which I have a chat tab devoted too because when I started out that's how I communicated during my time in Tortage. I think they should change the color of the New Player Help chat lines so that they can be distinguished in the general tab but then you would have people using it as an alert system for whatever reasons. But I try to be helpful whether it's a new player or a returning one. And every server is going to have handfuls of those types. No matter what game you go to there are going to be lighter and darker sides to the community. It's never going to go away and it's something we just learn to deal with and ignore. At the same time it's up to the community, really, to police their own. I personally feel that if I see someone bashing another player just for asking a question I will tell the basher to stop being a douchnugget and then I will try to help the person with the question. |

Welcome back to AoC. I, too, am a returning player, been playing off and on since launch. I play on the Wiccana server and I don't see any new-player bashing. I do see an intense bashing towards people who vocalize their hate and discontent towards AoC in Global chat but that's understandable. But outside of that I think the community at Wiccana is awesome (thanks guys and gals). Maybe it's just your server, and if you're on Wiccana then you must play during some wierd times cause I'm on a lot and don't see the new-player bashing. Again welcome back :) |

Hey Guys, AoC had a rocky start (which honestly a lot fot he big named MMO's have, including WoW and WAR). A lot of the angry player base are American gamers who got spoiled by easier MMO's that have been around for years and had time to polish the bugs. They're inevitable. Funcom has spent the last year since release fixing bugs and the stability of the game, implementing DirectX 10, itemization, as well as new content to round out the middle and later levels. If you are thinking of playing AoC here's some advice. Don't read threads that bash the game or hate it. All I can say is if you're interested just try it out. Don't let my opinion (love it) or the opinion of others cloud your judgement. Try it out and see what you think for yourselves. I did even after reading the basher/hater posts...and guess what I play AoC now instead of WoW or WAR or EQ2. Get your own opinion from your own experiences. |

The OP really needs to do his research. You CAN do the 14-days free without using a credit card. There's a line under the 20% off advertisment that says if you're not interested and just want to continue click here. Open your eyes and read next time. It also sounds like you went to a PvP server. Umm I believe ganking is a regular occurance of PvP servers. If you won't like it reroll to a normal one. As far as combat goes, it requires more thinking and strategy to hit where you're supposed to. Also the developers main concern for the past year has not been class balances for pvp but client stability and bug fixes with some added content. The game is a year old and if you play it now versus when it first released it has come a long way. A lot of the bashers are fan boys of other mmo's most likely WoW (who by the way just lost 6 million subscriptions). |

Free trials and Age of conan plummets to an all time low?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 7/09/09 9:02:24 AM
I always see a lot of bashing on AoC. Probably from typical American gamers who are impatient and want everything there and now. Being a long time beta tester and MMO player I've played just about all of them. AoC had the rockiest start I have ever seen in a MMO. People tend o forget that the first 6 are spent finding the bugs and fixing them, which AoC did, to an extent. Yes, when it released it was buggy, crashed, and didn't have some of the things it was supposed to. Unfortunatley that happens all to often in the gaming realm because it's not necessarily the developers fault but maybe the publishers were rushing them because they don't really see the game, they see dollar signs. Greed, it exists everywhere. Another thing I noticed is a lot of bashers are the WoW hardcore who, ever time they hear the term "WoW-killer" they get all uppity and go play the game and try to find the worst things about and concentrate on those instead of what makes the game good. AoC has it's flaws but it has some innovations in it I thought made the game a lot of fun. For starters the combat can't be beat. Chaining combos and strategically hitting your opponent was something I never saw in a MMO before and thoguht it was a blast for combat purposes and it fit in the realm and story of conan. Seriously, who here has actually read the books and not just watched the movies? They are violent and full of adventure. AoC also has entire guild cities. What other MMO has guild cities. And then you can lay siege to said cities...on teh back of a mammoth. AoC has mounted pvp/combat, woohoo. I played at the beginning and was one of the ones who really had to trudge through the bugs to enjoy the game itself. Eventually I stopped because it was very taxing on my then-system setup. I picked it up again a couple months ago to see how it changed. It changed a lot from release but still had some issues. Now after being offered the 2 weeks to re-evaluate AoC I resub'd to teh game. They changed a lot and for the better. http://aoc.warcry.com/articles/view/interviews/6246-Age-of-Conan-10-Reasons-to-Give-It-Another-Look I read this article while downloading the game and when I logged, saw they were right. A lot of changes were made. They are still working on the end-game but they wanted to fix the broken and middle area (55-60 used to suck...bad). Also itemization was changed so it didn't feel like you were just picking up crap all the time. I read posts from all the basher and the haters but you know what, all tehy do is try to hinder a well designed game from achieving anything because you have all these gullible kids and gamers who want to try the game but are afraid to because of some over-opinionated player decided that they should make a post about how horrible the game. I say come play the game, come see the changes or if you're new I welcome you to see how truly beautiful and lore deep this game is. I was an original player that felt the disappointment of launch. But I returned and saw a great MMO where once failure. The developers truly love their game and project and sacrificed a lot of time and effort to make it what it is today. All the bashers should just go back to WoW. If you want to bash something, bash WoW instead for being the game to spoil people getting into the MMO community. WoW isn't hardcore by any means...just ask someone who has a few characters capped on Everquest...or the hardcore Ultima Online player who has played forever. |

I just hate how every fanboy has to compare a new mmo to WoW when it is announced/tested/released. Apparently people still think WoW is "The" mmo. It isn't. I first started with EQ, then to FF XI. Right now almost every community has something WoW doesn't have...a player friendly community. Sorry but the community for WoW sucks. It has driven away a lot of people, especially the pure hardcore mmo players because they don't want to deal with the little kids and jerk who inhabit the trade chats and forums. The community on Aion is probably one of the friendliest I have ever played. WoW's PvP is not really groundbreaking either. The game is easily accessible which is why people say that. But I do believe PvP in EQ worked the same. Fight character using skills and abilities at your disposal. Yeah they have battlegrounds which are nice and they have arenas (which imo broke the PvP system because arenas are NOT exactly 100% class-based friendly). Aion just does what every mmo has done before it. It used a skill based system to fight. But does WoW have air to air pvp? No. That is pure fun if you ever try it. Adds a whole new mechanic on play styles because you have to choose to build your character for flying combat or ground in pvp. WoW is a beginners mmo. I look at it and its players as mother and child. The players are the children too afraid to leave their mother for a better world. Too afraid to work for something. Sitting all comfortable with their OP rogues and qqing about other classes and the ease to hit level cap in a matter of weeks. A true mmo would have you wait months, long months, before hitting level cap. If you want to talk and support WoW go to the WoW forums. This is an Aion thread where we discuss Aion, a game on a much higher level graphically and content-wise. |

Greetings All, I have some questions regarding Dofus. I am new and was wondering if it is worth it to pay. I find the game intrigueing with its cartoonish 2D style and so far like it even though I need to find a better class. What class would you recommend for a beginner? Also what are tofu tokens used for? Thanks. -Raven |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: More Layoffs, Response and Analysis
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/05/09 8:11:00 AM
Ok, for starters I think a lot of the nay-sayers here just hate WAR and are WoW purists but that's just me. I'm not here to flame them, however. I would like to point some things out. WAR is actually one of the best ones out there right now whether you choose to believe it or not, the ratings speak for themselves as well as the fanbase. You can't blame the game or Mythic. Who here has played Dark Age of Camelot? /Raises Hand. DAoC was a great game and you could tell the developers really enjoyed what they do. And there's a saying in the gaming industry that happy developers make great games. No, no, it's not Mythics fault. I blame EA. EA used to make good games, back in the days of the first Medal of Honor and the early Madden games. But they got too greedy. I kinda look at it like when Hasbro bought out Wizards of the Coast. A bigger company sees a smaller company whose doing really well and makes a great product. The bigger company turns around and buys the smaller company so they can make games for them to increase their profits. Then here's where corporate greed rears its ugly head. The larger company is losing money because of other ventures not doing what they wanted *cough*EA's Flagship Studio*cough*. This in turn cause them to lay off people in the companies they control so they don't have to worry about paying them so they can keep their pockets fat. EA also has the tendencey to rush a game into stores. It's not the developers fault if it gets released early. I'm pretty sure they would have pushed it back more but EA said no because of the declining economy and just told them to release it, hence they took out 4 classes and 4 cities to keep the "you promised us" flame to a minimum. Also WAR is still new and I always expect the first 4-6 months of a game to be buggy and such. The consumer doesn't help the situation when Americans as a scoiety has gotten impatient. We are in a "give it all to me now" age. WoW wasn't perfect when it launched either and if you compare the early days of WoW to the way it is now then you wouldn't even look at it. It has a few years on WAR (which is only 4 1/2 months old). MMO's take time, to perfect even out of the box. A game only has to sell 150,000 units for the company to come out even. 300,000 says they're doing fine. All in all if you must flame and blame somebody; flame EA...they have killed hundreds of good games and ruined good careers because of their greed. I was a Beta tester for Mythos and when they closed Flagship studios I was very sad to see that one go because that was a great MMO in the making.
