I, for one, think they have gone above and beyond nearly everyone else in terms of end game. They have small group stuff, large group stuff, and PvP stuff to do at endgame.
Most only have large group stuff. Simple as that really.
I really don't know what it is you people are wanting them to do. |

I agree.
Fantasy is pretty filled at the moment. Sci-Fi needs new life, something bold to stand out against the piles of crap we have today. Blizzard is probably making it as we speak...lord knows a Starcraft MMO would sell out instantly the day it released. |

But...then you see, you aren't leveling at all if you aren't winning. Which means the victors not only WIN but also ensure they will keep winning by doing so.
See? Gotta have a way to level without PvP, and if that is going to be the case...then the only way to set an even playing field for all players is to tie such a thing into PvE for everyone. Its not about experimentation, its about people who will stop at nothing to exploit anything...especially a system as easy to exploit as this. |

Adding levels: Check, pretty standard MMO x-pak material Adding zones: Check, every last MMO ever made adds zones Adding group content: Check, ditto Adding solo content: Check, which...to be honest, is actually something unique almost to WoW. Most MMO's actually skip out on the solo player. Adding more powerful gear: Triple check...and hell I can't think of one MMO that hasn't done this.
Nothing eats my goat more than MMO noobs crying about TBC adding levels..."ruining" their precious investments. Truth here is...Blizzard added more content in ONE expansion pack than most MMO's have over their lifetime. Most of their regular patches are x-pak material. I figure Blizzard is doing good by me.
Now if only someone else would do good as well...perhaps I could have something new to play that was actually half decent. I'd kill for something new...I'm dead tired of the rollercoaster-gear games. |

Matter of fact...if you combined all of the added content from release until BC you'd have enough material for nearly 2 expansions anyway. New Zone, 6 new dungeons, the rise of the honor system AND 3 battleground, full class revamps with multiple followups, several new factions....complete with rewards, new skills, more new quests and quest lines than I can even remember, So, while I still agree they could more than afford to give em away for free....I also see them giving above and beyond what others do for free. I don't suppose I can hate them for deciding to, on occasion, decide to charge for a few things like anyone else does. Hell, most others charge for less. Matter of fact, some charge for things they NEED to save failing servers. |

Denying what is, essentially, a selling point to the game is pure madness.
Thankfully, the OP isn't a madman. He's just a troll, although a very unique on. Most trolls wouldn't go there...since the obviousness of it ruins the game of it all. But he did, and tried real hard to make it look legit. Since the post has nearly left page one...I gotta give him a hand for it. |

I actually didn't vote because neither answer suited me. I DISLIKE free for all open access PvP, but love PKing to some degree. I think that the best compromise is to have a large section of the world (read: Well over half) open season PvP...but still allow for some degree of freedom from it. I would want to have a large crafting community and larger still general playerbase...and historically you can't have that if the game requires a week long grind to fix your toon after a PK raped it.
I mean, its that or no player looting.....which I also like. |

Bah, this is all just my take. I'm actually hoping for Fallen Earth type stuff to own. Or Chronicles....whatever. Something fresh for once...something new. I'm tired to death of these played out ideals, which...frankly...I've had my fill of. |

Originally posted by Housam I happen to have addictions. One in particular is chemical (nicotine, which....of all the things I did as a kid...is still the most powerful addiction I've faced. ). Next up, nothing is free. On occasion you find a group which meets and doesn't charge. Unfortunately, if simply talking about your problem was enough to fix it for you...you wouldn't be in the situation to begin with. No, generally serious addictions (most of which a chemical) require chemical intervention, or serious psychiatric help. Neither of these two things are free...and are often way more expensive than the addiction. Unless your addiction is burning a few pounds of meth a day, I suppose. Then its probably far cheaper...and also far more needed.
My insult here is that we are no longer teaching people how to deal with things on their own. The parents of today are made to think that any personal issue MUST be fixed with psychs and drugs. I don't so much blame the "addict", I blame the parents who couldn't instill that self control back then the mind of the person was still so easily strengthened. Its WAY harder trying to instill this stuff in an adult...the adult mind is harder to "teach" habits too than a childs. I hate the labeling of these things as diseases, because it removes the power from the hands of the parents and makes us think that we MUST use docs and drugs to solve them. |

Also, while I understand their desire to make a game as good as WoW on the charts....I'm not sure I understand the business model they have. Frankly, if I wanted to play a game "like" WoW, I'd be playing WoW. The whole "they have more money and, thus, more customer service agents and programmers and designers and developers" thing pretty much kills the debate on my end. Now...when SOE decides to actually do something different than copy that model (which has only found true success in ONE game on their list) then I'll be interested in hearing all about what they are doing for my market.
That aside, I also think anyone who attributes WoW's SUPREME success (not just basic success...AKA: not the first few million, but the 10 million they have now) on anything more than pop culture and ease of access is a fool. WoW plays on machines that can't even run EQ. It would seem to me that simply being accessible by ALL PC users is doing more for their market share than simply being "good". Now, the fact they are the most polished, most updated, most informant, and most observant company on the market certainly helps....in fact its the whole reason they got those first subs. But I stand by the fact that they have this many players for no other reason than the fact its that good AND plays on the junkiest machine known to man. |

Frankly, I'm sick of calling anything which does not have an actual physical addiction (biological thing, IE: Drugs and how they interact with the body to force the body to "need" them) and addiction at all. Just because you enjoy doing something does not mean you're allowed to get free meds and a support group just because you were too dense to stop doing it. |

Assists (especially Full Support ones) are easy to level. There is never a shortage of Blades and such that want a personal buff buddy to grind with and you can get what is essentially endless Power leveling that way. Plus....because buffs are so powerful in this game, you can even manage to solo a bit as well due simply to the sheer power your buffs give you. You just can't solo things 20 levels higher than you like others can.
Elementor is an awesome class, with awesome skills. Don't buy into the hype that they cannot function without help all the time. If anything, the spellcasters in this game need less "help" than the physical guys. Do realize that you WILL need to beef up that stamina to function, and also understand that proper gear is going to make or break you. Anything that boosts your health and defense is a must for soloing...and don't even bother trying to AoE without a healer or tank unless the pulls are smaller and the levels are close to your own.
Truth be told, ANYONE trying to kill things well over their level "needs" a support character to function well. Except maybe bowjesters.....or high defense knights. I'd be leery even then. Otherwise, RM's are going to be needed regardless of class choice for super high level stuff. |

Ya know, I agree.
I think my hopes are similar to yours. Lots of player-made content, super fun combat, immersive world. PvP is tricky...if its open PvP (with building loss available) then the "risk-reward" issue pokes through. If the PvP is too secluded...it loses meaning and immersion.
I wouldn't call it impossible...I'd say it would take a lot of testing to get the formula right and that its pretty hard. By hard, I mean it would take a lot more development time to structure solid combat AND balance player made content in such a way that allows freedom over "Uber choices". Since developers and programmers cost a ton of money, and the timeframe would be larger than standard MMO's....AND the player base isn't as initially large....I don't see any major company doing it. If the majors aren't playing...then you have to deal with the weaknesses of an indie group doing it. |

What I think all of you fail to realize is that the forums ARE the game. Literally, there is no Darkfall. So these flames, and all of the attacks you see are just people utilizing the "FFA PvP" of the game. Don't feel too bad if you get ganked...even new players have equal power levels to old players in this game. You can fight back just as hard and return the favor. |

And this my friends is why we "whiney vets" still cry about something 3 years later. Because those assholes learned NOTHING from NGE. I knew it.
IF we had spoken up more about SOE, maybe we could have saved those people some money. They have been investing in this thing hoping SOE would fix the bugs and instead got a "WoW-ification" of their game. I feel personally responsible for not having pushed harder to get people to see SOE for what it is.
Lets raise some hell boys. |

You have an neat take on things...but the system is junk. Its self-defeating...as it destroys the draw of the game for new players.
With no limits, only the first crafters who started your game would ever amount to anything. They would be the only crafters...as no one would want the junk stuff. People who gathered mats to sell would only sell to those crafters, as they would pay top dollar for the same crap since their end profit margin would be higher than newbs. People who gathered mats to trade for items would only do so with vet crafters for better returns. The market would die.
A better way to do this is to allow a near limitless "refine" system. What I mean is, make it so that a crafter can constanly modify a piece in order to bump its stats. Each mod would take time, and therefore cap how much one could produce. The amount of mods per day could be limited to skill level, and each mod could require more resources. Now couple that with some actual technical aspect to crafting (a mini-game of sorts...one which actually made the crafter invovled in the crafting rather than clicking a button) and you have a system which open-ends the crafting...while still allowing new players to reach similar goals. But having no control over what limits a person gain get to in crafting "power" means that vets will be the only crafters. I'm sure you can see why that is bad for a MMO. You cannot allow a siutaion where new players have no chance at being comparable...even with diminishing returns, after a year or so the difference is enormous. Regardless...it bottlenecks the market. Unless, I suppose, you were to match an exponentially INCREASING material cost to go with your DIMINISHING returns for the limitless system. For instance..... If a gun made with 1 ore does 1 damage then a gun that does 10 damage could require 20 ore. 20 damage is 60 ore, ect ect..... Eventually it becomes obscenely costly to make these "crazy" weapons so the market will still support newb crafters as they will be able to make affordable weapons and armor. It STILL discourages new players, because they will feel like they can never reach the goals they see other players having. But it won't block them from the market entirely, at least. |
