I'm only posting this for those that keep on complaining about the graphics not being current top of the line graphics..

1) This game started being designed years ago when the graphic engine they chose to run with was one of the best.. YES, technology has increased since then , but it's always changing every year.. Should a game actually shut down and REDO everything just because a new graphics engine comes out?   NO

2) It's all about the numbers..  YES, I'm sure there are a small number of players that buy new graphics card each time a better one comes out, or a new computer.. However, most paying customers do not..  This is the targeted base that companies go after.. WoW has very basic simple graphics, but can get over 10 million subs... Hmmmm

3)  I would rather play a game that has B rated graphics, that can accommodate 2 million players, then a A+ rated graphics game that can only sustain 30,000 players.....

Understand?

I've played a ton of games over the years.. some PvP and some PvE and some both..  One thing I observed tho NO ONE likes being ganked or losing in a PvP fight on a regular basis..  I've read a few so far in this post that promote PvP at any cost.. These statements I've read before and come across in game, and to no surprise, it's all BS..  Why?    No more then a month ago a group of PvP gankers, I believe 4 or 5 of them, selectively targeted single vulnerable players or smaller groups.. This went on for 30 minutes from what I can tell..  Finally I and others from my guild grouped up with others to be 10 man strong..  We destroyed that smaller ganking 5 man group in minutes..  They rezed, They died..  After each of them died twice they all logged off and quit..

Funny how the gankers that were so proud of their BS, didn't like it when the shoe was on the other foot..  This is why PvP games often struggle with subscription numbers.. PvP comes down to the numbers.. No different then PvE games come down to the gear..  Same will happen to SWToR.. If there is a constant flow of 3v1  or 6v2 PvP  gank fights and that is a large portion of the end game, I doubt the subscription base will be that big..   I don't mind PvP,  in fact my favorite PvP are battlegrounds like AV or contested zones like WG in WoW.. But if I have to spend time looking for a group to keep from getting ganked all the time..  I will NOT play that game.. I have better things to do then be some childs target over and over...

I think the OP is missing the point some have tried to make. While you think its the best idea since sliced bread others, like myself think its a stupid idea. Blizzard is about making money. There new cash shop proves that. To make money they have to please the largest mass. The way they do patches now does that. Why try something new when the same ol same ol is making them more money than any one of us could ever comprehend.

I'm tired of the same old burgers.. Even McD's has to change their menu around.. Why?  Because customers demand it.. Business is ever changing based on customer demand, however in most cases those customers are adults PAYING for the product..  WoW on the other hand IN MY OPINION is not driven by adult demands.. I want NEW gameplay.. changes.. NOT the same old shit......

BTW..

Cat expansion.. = COMPLETE and utter change in combat stats and skills.. = CHANGE.. now what were you saying that Blizzard shouldn't change things?

Good Point..  Blizz knows that 50% of their customer base are minors or students who's PARENTS pay the bills..  Often the parent's have no clue what they are buying, other then it's part of the game they support..  I and others on the other hand are tired for paying something that isn't worth it.. and YES.. many of us that pay for our own accounts what MORE for our buck..  IF you are not paying for your account..  Please be quiet as you have NO vested interest..   :)

Yet more complaining about nothing. You don't know the facts of anything you stated but you decided to upset people by posting it anyway. There's a word for that... troll. You aren't a troll, are you?

See, most of us have gotten sick to death of hearing the doom and gloom from people. It just never stops on here. No other game has ever attracted so much "its going to fail", "it sucks", "we're all going to hate it" as this one has.

At some point its got to stop.

If you think you are going to hate it, then there is no reason to post on this forum about it other than to upset people. I don't go to the Eve forum and rant in a big long post about how much the game sucks, and I don't go to the WoW forum and make a big long post about how much this game is going to suck. Why? Because I just don't care that much. If I don't like a game, I'm perfectly capable of letting it go.

And yet, for some unknown reason, the doomsayers have gathered on this particular game to just constantly do nothing but claim how horrible it will be based on unsubstantiated rumor.

Its gotten old and incredibly annoying.

Here's an idea... do the healthy thing and move on to the next game that you will actually like.

and to be devil's advocate.. I'm sick to death of all the HYPE of praise and success when the game isn't even out..

I will agree with one thing tho.. "It's gotten old and incredible annoying"... :)

It'd be no different than anything else.  A few people would think it's the greatest thing ever, and the rest would piss and moan non-stop.  You propose making it easy enough for an 80% full group to complete, that'd make the thing so stupid easy everyone would QQ about noobs getting free epic gear.  Regardless, people would get sick of it as fast as they get sick of battlegrounds, WG, raids, and everything else.

That is exactly part of the problem in the community.. WHO gives a shit what others got and how they got it?  WoW has become I competitive ego game of I got this and you cant' have it..  Why don't people just worry about themselves, or does beating on others somehow feed your ego to believe you are "better" then them.. OMG..... When people like that talk they seriously need to go see a shrink..

This linked raid is a pretty bad idea. The also illustrates the reason why alot of folks would make bad game designers. Blizz knows their audience. The WoW pop is spread across many unbalanced servers. Most pve servers run high ally pop, while most most pvp servers run high horde. In quite a few cases on pvp servers there is no ally pop to speak of (see Cho'gall, Malganis, etc). The majority of players on these unbalanced realms would never get a chance to experience the raid thus making the Blizz team's work pretty much wasted.

Gating forces competitive guilds (either server or world) to nail encounters quickly. The number of tries will be increasing as time progresses, so those folks without a high skill level will even get to down these bosses eventually. Sunwell was a very fun raid (unless you were a mage). I am hoping for a return to that difficulty level.

HUH?  this isn't a 50/50 zone.. there could be 80 horde and 20 ally.. or vice versa..  first 100 to queue in get the tokens, just that simple.. it doesn't matter what faction you are

Since this is a separate zone just like battleground or dungeons.. treat it as such.. NO FLY zone.. just like other dungeons we have CoS and Mt.H.. etc ..  Plus the zone would be designed so that even 80 good people could force Arthas to retreat.. Remember tho, this is a joint dungeon where horde and alliance team together.. I seriously doubt you'll fall short of 80 people even in off hours.. well.. except at 6am in the morning.. LOL

If done right .. this event would be the next best thing to sliced bread., but Blizzard missed the boat in my opinion.. They instead opted for easy already done layout.. BORING..  Rumor has it, that the Citadel will be a "gated" unlock dungeon where you have to unlock certain bosses a step at a time.... timesink and bullchit ..

So when 100 people are having fun in this event what do the 100's of others do?  Same as the ones in WG do when they aren't able to join in the fun.. queue faster? what if the 100 chosen don't complete the event, FAILURE is always an option, I for one hate games that have a 100% success rate.. what if a server does not have 100 people queued to start the event? If you don't have 100, chances are you may only get a token or two and not complete phase 3..  but then if you can't get that many to join, you most likely dont' have enough to do the unlocked dungeons anyways.. what happens at 3am when theres not enough people online? what about gear will the event scale based on players gear? NO gear check, just like WG.. only requirement is that you have to be level 80..  Token rewards start at triumph gear level.. what happens if a gorup is in the raid when the 3 hour timer kicks in do they get teleported out like VOA? YES you get teleported out, that just the nature of the beast... in short it wont work, and will pish many people off, people will want to do the major content like the citedal at their own pace not be forced to a 2-3 hour window.NOW, that is funny.. YOU claim that  people want to do Citadel at their OWN pace.. I'm glad you feel that way..  MY OWN pace does NOT include doing 25 man raids.. so lets get rid of them..  :)  Watch the logic you use, it may come back right at you..

Now world events are different, if there was no flying mounts in WoW, I could imagine a world a event where you have to get passed the 4 walls in icecrown before you can access the citedal.  Really.. Naxx has 4 wings and you can't fly in there.. every occur to you that there is no flying INSIDE a Citadel building?

The only MMO that might pull me from WoW would have to be SW:TOR.

Chances are I'll just end up dual subscribing.

P.S.

I heard it would be mid to late spring that we'd see Cataclysm.

I remember someone saying that we'd be bitching about Goblins before the next Blizzcon.

Our lil guild looked at SWToR, but we fear it's nothing more then a console game with some PvP to justify calling it a mmo :(   However, we are looking at STO, that comes out Feb 2..  But even that games gives us the shivers..

Us guildies were chatting last week how bored we are with the game in general..  Each patch, it's the same formula with different numbers..  Where is the creativity in this game?.. Hello..  Lets try something new..  Such as this:

What patch 3.3 should of been..  Correct me if I'm wrong, but the horde and alliance have been "training" at the tourney ground in order to defeat Arthas..  Why didn't Blizzard take this chance to do something new?  You want to attack the Citadel, fine.. every 2 hours both Horde and Alliance queue up together to TEAM up in raid to open the Citadel.. Let me explain further..  If you wish to take part in the Citadel assault that occurs every 2 or 3 hours, you fly down to a meeting stone outside the Citadel and queue in, similar to the way you do with Wintergrasp.  You can either queue as a single player or as a group..  First come, First server..  Once queued for Citadel raid, you are put into groups in a holding area similar to doing AV battleground..  The raid will consist of 100 players... You will have a short time period to buff and move groups and players around within you're own 25 man raid team..

Once the battle begins, each 25 man raid team will proceed thru a dungeon like atmosphere, to take down the mini boss at the end, which will unlock the gate that allows you to zone into the next phase.. Advancing into the next phase will combine 2 of the raid groups together tomake a 50 man team to proceed further into the Citadel to take out the next uber raid boss..  Once that is completed, a final merge will allow all 100 players to advance and attack Arthas..  NOTE: you can not kill Arthas as this time, you simply weaken him as he retreats into a safe area..

Once you defeat and force Arthas to retreat, this unlocks the Citadel zone for 5,10 and 25 dungeon content.. UNTIL 2 or 3 hours later and it resets and you need to attack Citadel all over again..  Each time you defeat a mini boss and force Arthas to retreat you are awarded tokens that can used for Verdor purchased items similar to Wintergrasp.. Be aware that each Citadel encounter is on a timer.. You will have a limited time (20 or 30 minutes) to fight your way thru and force Arthas to retreat, failure to do so will mean that none of the dungeon content will be available, until you try again.. (2 hour wait)

The fun I see here is the random pairing and grouping with opposite faction players..  There are more details to be ironed out, but in all it would be something new and fresh.. And to think our guild thought of this in 10 minutes, while Blizzards spends hours, days and weeks with a room of devs that just reinvented the wheel a 4th time :(  /facepalm

Well the argument is that there are 5 fewer levels. So if you look at BC and WOTLk, and subtract 5 levels, think of the zones you wouldn't need. That, then leads to a lot less content that needs to be developed....quests, arts, story, etc.... Imagine if WOTLK was only to 75. You could really get rid of 3 or 4 zones and still have enough content to get to 75 easily.
Sure, Cataclysm will be a lot of work and I am not denying that. The Path of the Titans and Archeology profession will require work too. But, overall in my opinion, there is a lot less content that is required because its only 5 levels. For this reason, the development cycle will be faster.

So very wrong.
80 to 85 will take as long as 70 to 80. Blizzard wants gaining a level 80+ to be more meaningful.

That's the rumor.. which means what?  Twice as many level 81 quest to get to level 82.. OR.. just more mindless grind?  WoTLK had almost 800 quest PER side (horde/alliance)..  If it takes just as long to level from 80 to 85,, as it did from 70 to 80.. I take it logically that means 800 NEW quest PER side.. hmmmmmmmmm interesting.. I seriously doubt that is the case..

I think it is a great idea for Blizzard to remix the WOW world. After all, why let go of the huge subscriber base when all they need is new land to explore?  The combat and spell systems are good, the class and race systems are excellent, only the world is getting stale, and that is being remade from what I can tell.

So, the only issue left is the matter of "when"; "when" will "Cataclysm" release as an expansion?  I have heard October-ish 2010, and I want to say that is too late.

Yes, Blizzard are the masters of polish and will not release a game or expansion in a crappy state.  However, Blizzard is also known for taking their sweet time, and this time around, perhaps a bit too much.

WOTLK content has been blown through by many players, and you can only raid, return to Dalaran, raid, return to Dalaran, raid, return to Dalaran just so many time before it gets old. I have played WOW, off and on, since release, and I can tell you that Azeroth is getting old.  And Northrend got old the first time through.

So, is Blizzard risking losing the initiative if "Cataclysm" is slated to come out in late 2010?  Thoughts?

The Cataclysm expansion isn't going to be any different then WoTLK, except smaller.. YES.. SMALLER.. The actual content for levels 80 to 85 is smaller.. Only thing Blizzard is bringing new to the world is 2 new phased starting zones, and a few more zones to level to 85.. YES they are adding more 5 man's and raids.. YIPPEE..  Here we go again with raiding content.. GUILD rankings is all about the RAID.  Blizzard will continue to focus on guilds and raids, and the expansion is just a small stepping stone for that..

I agree with the OP 100%..  The WoW community at large has become a garbage dump of attitudes..   I play with close friends, most of us married and family, in our lil guild that can only do Heroics, and a rare 10 man if we are lucky, or pug a few slots..  In any case this game has turned into a gear check game, almost forcing people to be "OVER" geared for the simplest things..   Blizzard is aware of the problem as they admitted they toyed with the idea of adding a item level 300 shirt with no stats just to screw up the gear checking numbers..

question is.. will Blizzard actually fix this and destroy the lil monster they created?

Anymore, any new game concerns me, as I haven't yet found one to take me away from WoW..  I hope STO, focuses primarily on PvE play with a huge portion of content to keep me busy for years..  I truely hope this isn't another Eve or Aion that only has limited PvE grind to level you for PvP end game..  If so, I'll leave STO just as fast as I left Eve and Aion (1 month)..

Good Luck Cryptic.. don't let me down

I hope they can do something to fill the void that has become the game's community. With each new expansion, each new gear tier set, they only serve to separate players more and more from each other, which leaves a very weak community in my opinion.

I couldn't agree with you more.. maybe not for the same reasons.. but our small guild has noticed that with each patch and expansion, Blizzard is driving a wedge between raiding guilds, casual quilds and whoever is left players..  The vast discrepancy between gear has caused a "gear check" mentality and snobbish BS..  BLIZZARD. we blame YOU for this screw up.. I hope you see what you have caused and fix it.. This is NOT benefiting the community, and I have my concerns that this guild ranking will ONLY divide the players even more..

I bash it because it's NOT FUN.. It was a royal pain in the arse grind..   AION = epic fail

How is Aion doing?

I quit a month into the game.. I tried but all I see is GRIND GRIND GRIND..... NO thanks.. NEXT

Good for them?  Wake up people.. just because people buy the game doesn't make it a good one.... I"m one of the sorry suckers that figured I would give it a shot, since I'm getting bored with wow ...... I cancelled Aion after only a month of play.. The game is a lame PvP grind.. NO THANKS..   I bet I'm one of thousands that bought the game but are NO LONGER subscribing to it...  I guess I have to wait for the next game to come out..  AION failed

I cancelled my sub after the first month..  It just wasn't my cup or tea.. Only a few classes can solo, and even that is restricted.. It's a flaw in a game when you can't even make it to 20th level without requiring alot of group help.. if I have to endure another /LFG for a Krall grind just to complete quest and get experience.. FORK THAT..  I guess that was the sign of things to come.. I'll pass.. I hate games that PUSH for group grindfest..
