"Hardcore MMO Players Are Yesterday’s News"
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/10/09 1:35:06 PM
hardcore is just skilled player who needs more challenge to prove himself, not some nolife who simply has just more time lol learn the definition first. go play diablo2 hardcore to learn what it means |

A post for the more experienced 2(death penalty)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/08/09 9:49:18 AM
the only reason i quit war and aoc: no death penalty at all. it was stupid when i was trying to get myself killed just to respawn and save me some long trip currently i am looking for game with death penalty, so if you know one, let me know. so far shaiya is the best, but i dont want to grind it all over again, tried to though. i was grown on diablo 2 hardcore mode with perma death, so my expectations are maybe too high, but i need a game that gives you adrenaline. and severe DP gives that (and a reason to pk) |

Shaiya, if you play tank or mage or healer. AoE party is the only way to lvlup with those classes. Graphics is one of the better out there |

Why are class free MMO's so rare ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/04/09 10:23:20 AM
Imgotep is right. Ppl ould soon figure out the best build and all people would be the same. Better solution is to put more unique classes. Shadowbane, AoC, WAR, GW all did nice step with classes. Remember its not a card game, its (at least supposed to be) RPG. Your character, lets assume hes mage. He trained magic his whole life and maybe never picked a sword. Its now probably too late for him to learn from scratch, because hes not interested in this area or simply is too weak to swing a weapon efficiently. |

I told ya all. Now for all of you who thought episode 350 was defending tasos, just read theenoob ep 351 . As i said before, she can make fun of anything she wants in her comic and thats precisely what shes doing. |

i dont like all these hating posts. just give them (the devs) some time. The game can still be the best mmo out there, when they fix all hacks/exploits and restart server. As for community, it cant be that bad. Remember its pvp game and its all about competition and winning. There are probably just a few true exploiters, the others are forced to hack just to catch up and stand a chance. I had same problem in diablo2. The devs are nuuuuuub and very immature, thats true. But the game itself is has still great potential, so dont flame it that hard Only when Mortal comes out, we can then just flush DF |

i just heard gossip today about the sequel, but could not find much info on web. Can somebody confirm AL2 or link me with some info? |

AoC is better, i played both AoC has better graphics and pvp. Plus, no stupid factions. I quit both only because there was no death penalty at all and i am hardcore pvper, used to diablo2 harsh consequences. It was dumb when i wanted to be killed just to teleport to spawn point and save some time. No adrenaline that every decent pvp game has to pump. I chose to return to archlord. It has pretty graphics, beautiful music composed by London Symphony Orchestra, there is a chance of item loss on pvp and you can become king of the world (king of server to be precise, which is still quiet something awesome) Grind is acceptable in AL, cuz of AoE skills. Grouping is rewarded and its freetoplay (although there was fee initially) |
|
|
hey aeria fans, please tell me which game is better for pvper like me who likes low grind, good graphics and balanced pvp with death penalty i played shaiya. graphics was ok, grind was acceptable and pvp penalty was ok. i disliked dividing into factions though, but it was no major problem. how are these things in 12sky in comparison? i played last chaos too but it was one of the most retarded mmo i played. pointless pvp with penalty for pk and grind without boundaries |

There has to be a better way to end this
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/30/09 3:16:28 PM
i like almost all previous posts in this thread. sadly, because of wow popularity, our generation will not have the chance to play the spoken dreamgame. dont forget, that quality players will always be in minority. paperpen rpgs where a niche game too, more people used to play board games or card games, which were easier. they didnt play to have fun, they played to win. Vampire Bloodline is said to be one of the very few games that truly was RPG, combat wasnt that important. Let us hope that World of Darkness online will follow this trace. Lets hope it will be the best and most popular mmo in da world, which will encourage others to create similar game in fantasy world. I hate people who want to have everything in one game, instead of looking for other games. Everytime i saw a post of somebody suggesting new minigame in his mmo, i felt enraged. You seemed to be a bit like them, but just a bit. Maybe ppl like you should just still play penpaper rpg to get what you want from a game. Or... try Planeshift. |

In your Opinion: Difference between Theme park and Sandbox?
MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 5/26/09 1:29:51 PM
To help you understand better, let me use an example of single player game. Fallout is most sandbox game u have out there. You have various endings and many options how to defeat obstacles. You can just kill all npc, rob them from crucial items needed or use charisma to get what you want. You can finish game very fast or explore the world and do many side quest that have impact on ending movie. Diablo is perhaps most themepark. You just go from point to point each and everytime the same way.
I hope this helps. BTW if u didnt play fallout, dont even admit it or you will be banned from every gamer community. |

A smart thing would be to concentrate on the players that will keep playing for months if not years, rather than the few that will play a few months.
What a bullcrap. I know no hardcore who complained that game was too easy. And i know no hardcore who left game because he has seen everything. On the contrary, people stick to games where they have proven themselves and have higher hard earned position than the rest. The like to stay and show how leet they are and build their fame as living game legend. What you are talking about concerns only single player game like resident evil or final fantasy: finish on hardest difficulty, unlock all secrets, see all there is and move onto next game. In case of mmo its just stupid conclusion. |

i will try to explain on most sandbox game i played, Shadowbane Very few npc and not a single quest. I mean. If there are any quest, they are given by other players, like somebody is hiring you to kill some annoying pk or defend his guilds mine for the time its vulnerable to attack. If you succeed, you get paid with gold/stuff. Or you are not paid and make your own quest to kill the freaking cheater and his whole guild. You can go to any place in the world from lvl1. Sure you wil most probably die in the way, but skilled player can dodge all the mobs to reach his destination. You are not divided into some shitty faction. You decide on your own, on which side are you, or are you are bad or evil. And you can change anytime. You can even kill your party member if you want. The world is player driven. Every city is raised and owned by guilds. Every single one can be destroyed. Finally, your actions are meaningfull. Your allegiance matters. Unlike in themepark where there is totally zero impact on the world when you complete quests. |

Problem is mmorpgs are about Gear and developing your character. They arn't like CS where the hardcore player can wipe out a whole server because he's so good. So mmorpgs need to allow hardcore players to make themselves stand out from the casual. so you claim that mmorpg are for noskill losers who need to raise their self esteem? sadly.... you are right in great part, really most of mmos are only about grind, like Last Chaos. Again, different understanding of what hardcore means doesnt allow to come to any agreement. Further discussion impossible. |

Guild Wars 2 is taking far to long!!

I like this one. However, the reason i quit guildwars is because i heard about gw2 coming pretty soon. If they didnt tell this information, i would enjoy gw still and buy expansion, but i didnt. So in my case, they made mistake telling this. I would prefer them not to say this too early as they did. I like |

Originally posted by LynxJSA You are right that there can be different definitions of hc, but originally, the term origins are in diablo2. It took a hell of skill to get lvl99 on hardcore mode. Mostly the skill of pressing escape button and then choosing save and exit option in a matter of miliseconds. but it was a skill nevertheless. Also, in single player games, hardcore is somebody who finished game on hardest level of difficulty, not somebody that just played more. I really really think that hardcore means tougher, not just more dedicated. Like you, I assumed very quickly that OP is wow carebear, but I chose not to write these assumptions previously. |

You Know What The Saddest Thing About WAR Is?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 5/25/09 5:33:40 AM
I am not sure how is this cinematic related to the thread. But i feel realy sad too. WAR should be shadowbane 2.0, not wow 2.0 Too me it lacked 3 things: Many independent races instead of artificial factions. Hardcore pvp with death penalty (not necessarily full looting) Pretty graphics instead of wowish one. |

I believe you are seriously mistaken what hardcore means. Hardcore is player who is better than majority, not one that spent more time on the game. To me its great where everybody has easy access to the best items and only skill matters who pwns who. Guild wars being best example of game which allows to show everybody who the leet is. I am not talking about rare armor, which requires only grind, but titles achieved through skilled gameplay, especially pvp titles. Again, nolife doesnt equal hardcore |

DF has still potential to be the best out there. I believe to people who say they have best gaming experience ever. I cant play it though until all hackers are wiped. And even then i would like fresh start for everybody. And free trial ofc. And pvp server. |

Bored of constantly fighting to level...any suggestions?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/22/09 2:43:37 AM
Just thought of something. You seem to be the creator type. I play mmo to lvlup and pwn other people, proving i am smarter and more cunning and have best build in the world. But you like to make things happen.... maybe drop mmo for a while and try settlers or civilisation. i am pretty sure building and managing your empire is far more interesting than crafting stuff. Just try it for some time instead of mmo or in the meantime. MMO is abusing drug but there are other games too, dont forget it or you can miss great adventure in your life. |
