I've been playing Eve since 2007 and I totally agree with you. 

 

CCP have a history of failures since 2008 (DUST 514 and WoD).

 

I don't think Valkyrie will be as good as Elite: Dangerous, which will  be released first.

 

CCP are up against a legend - David Braben. I'm a realist - I don't think this is a war that CCP can win.

 

CCP should have just concentrated on Eve Online and made it the best game it can possibly be. That game is their strong point, and I think they have wasted their chance - that boat has already sailed in 2008.

For your interest, the review that influenced me most was Angry Joe's review on YouTube. The advantage of YouTube is that you can see a demonstration of the gameplay.

 

If you want to make money out of doing reviews, you could do the same thing.

 

Personally, I am waiting to try ArcheAge (when it becomes free to play) and Elite: Dangerous when it comes out in a few months.

 

I'm enjoying Heathstone, Dungeon Keeper, and the X-COM games at the moment, and that's enough for me.   :o)

I don't usually agree with you, but I do agree with the broad thrust of what you are writing here. However, to the developers' credit they have just introduced a mentoring system that might encourage gankers to turn into mentors.

 

However, your point still holds because despite the mentoring system, there isn't anything else to do in this game except gank somebody. For example, if you want to be a lone explorer - forget it - the system and geography is loaded against you - you really are the 'fresh meat' to be ganked and harvested without mercy.

Yes, it's very difficult indeed to make any sort of ground-breaking game.

 

The creator of Elite (and upcoming Elite: Dangerous) is a high-flying Cambridge University graduate who has experienced his fair share of making games that were not quite so successful.

 

It's all about having a vision and expressing it using applied mathematics.

Sweet Jesus - the other MMORPGs I haven't played must be far worse than I thought! 

The author has probably been paid to promote ESO.

 

He writes a lot about the faults of WoW - this serves to avoid all discussion of ESO. He doesn't mention any facts or evidence that support his unpopular opinion that ESO is "the future of MMORPGs".

You're right - there are a few minor tweaks with those few bug fixes.

 

I reckon BioWare have 1 programmer working on SWTOR + a large PR team hyping up every minor change.

 

This ratio of programmers to PR people has been similar right from the start of SWTOR - I reckon it's how they wasted the $100 million that was supposedly spent on the game.

I almost felt like they paid MMORPG.COM to hype people.. Why else would they write YAY.. smells like a hidden comercial

 

Pretty much what I think. Plus the lack of innovation generally makes the smallest tweak seem more significant than it really is.

The LFG/LFR tools help people learn to raid, it shows and can be frustrating, but if no one will explain the fights and just expects you to know them then it good that they get some face time with the boss before they get thrown into flex or Normal.

Apart from Pandalands being very cute and fluffy, wow is doing fine, lots to do if you want to do it, if not then you will hear the children crying out about "I've bored, I've got nothing to do" like anyone is going to entertain the self entitled little.....

End game raiding is still huge, but as the new expansion is coming people are doing other things as they are getting to that hang out till it comes phase (as all your epics will be replaced by greens first day)

If you Google the term "WarCrack" now, you will find that the last entry for this term in the news was 2009.

I think this is a good idea because after the trial, DFUW's developers should get plenty of honest feedback.

The mentor system is clever because it encourages the hardcore players to become mentors of new players, rather than gankers of new players.

 

However, I believe the main problem with this game is that if forces you to do only team PvP and does not provide other roles, such as "lone adventurer" (not unless you want to be relentlessly ganked and harvested). The new changes do nothing to address this central problem.

 

I think DFUW could easily be fixed by re-introducing the 100 or so small islands on the edge of the map (and exclude them from the tithe / feudal system).

Ignore the naysayers, they are probably hating. If you're on a populated server there's plenty of people everywhere and it's definitely like a world. If there isn't, try some other servers. Low population servers usually have a messed up economy anyway so you'd definitely want to change.

I am genuinely sad at what has become of WoW. It used to be a very very addictive game (WarCrack some people used to call it - can you imagine that? Can you imagine people calling WoW that name now?). 

If you loved playing Fire Mage pre-2008, as I did, you will be very disappointed if you return to WoW now.

 

The lovely old skill trees have completely gone. You no longer feel a sense of achievement while leveling because there are no new talent points to spend at each level.

 

Fire ball is a lame spell now, and kiting has been nerfed for Fire Mages, so Fire Mages are now pathetic (until max level with max gear, but by then what is the point?).

I want the old skill trees back. Oh God, how I miss my old pre-2008 Fire Mage.

 

Until then, I'm waiting for Elite: Dangerous, not WoD.

I totally agree with the OP. However, I think the OP is highlighting a symptom, but not the disease.

 

Pre-2008 in WoW, there were DPS classes, tanking classes, healing classes, and the game was more of a challenge. Therefore, it was perfered to have social contacts in order to do really well - so socialising was considered normal, but not compulsory by any means. These days, everyone can do similar things - especially DPS, and crowd control can be a substitute for tanking. The game is also easier, so nobody really feels a need to socialise at all.

 

Most other developers have followed Blizzard's new model, and the rest is history.

 

Somebody mentioned Darkfall Unholy Wars as being a social game. I don't like this game because you are bullied by gankers into socialising, rather than it being a pleasant option.

i love my fire mage and i can still do all that right now. Although the skill and talent trees have changed drastically over time, they are still pretty good. I would agree that a little bit more talents would be nice but i do like that  right now every talent that i choose now is viable. Back when there was a bagillion talents everyone was limited to one cookie cutter build because the rest was useless and the elitists wouldnt accept your home made build.

 

 

 

I disagree with you, but correct me if I'm wrong...

 

These days, the Fire Mage build only works like it used to once you have reached level 90 AND you have attained all the best gear (that will elevate your critical damage percentage adequately).

 

Until these conditions are met, Fire Mage is the worst of the 3 specs: Leveling as a Fire Mage from level 1 to 90 and then doing all the activities in order to get the needed kit will make most people rage quit well beforehand.

 

If you can only get a Fire Mage to work right at the very very end-game, there's no point because there is nothing more to play for!

 

I hate to say this, but I think you are the worst kind of fan - you applaud a game / developer when they do the wrong thing.
