still my #1 mmo.

no issues with it, just kinda funny all the negative reviews some players have about it- just shows me i probably have no interest on their current game they are playing.

TSW- does go above and beyond!-accelerating how far an mmo can go with creativity!

The reason why TSW combat sucks is not "funny" in either sense of the word - it is not amusing and there is no mystery about it.

What is more, the concept of TSW is not in the least bit  "creative" - it's a poor implementation of the role playing game The Call of Cthulu.

The creativity all comes from H.P. Lovecraft who lived many decades ago.

My boyfriend and I have enjoyed this title since it's beginning ARGs. We sit in front of our own computers and interact more in this game then any other MMORPG. Together we have overcome all of the investigation missions we face.

When we were in egypt there was a mission where we had to find the pieces of a staff. The mission was called "The Binding". In order to find their locations we had to triangulate their positions with the directions that the god's statues face (even the false one's).

We printed a map out and went to each statue, determining as best we could the direction of their gaze and making a line on the map and a rough circle around the area that their gaze crossed.

We completed The Binding and we did it together.

This game is PERFECT for couples.

Most people play MMORPGs solo. If you play an MMORPG with other people and you enjoy it, the chances are that you enjoy the game mosly because you enjoy the other people who are playing it!

For your interest, Angry Joe thought GW2 was the best thing since sliced bread. However, he was playing the game with a large group of friends. In contrast, TotalBiscuit played GW2 solo and he gave GW2 a far more realistic and sober review - it was above average, and that's about all.

Because ALL TSW combat on YouTube is shit - even the very best setups.

It's clunky, unrealistic, unexciting and takes AGES.

There are no exceptions to this rule whatsoever.

NEVER pre-order a game from a publishing house - it usually ends in tears. Haven't people learnt from SWTOR?

Kickstarter is a different case altogether because: 1) They have to include far more details and information up front. 2) They need the money to make it happen.

What you talking about willis!?

I talking about people buying a game that isn't cheap, with their hard earned cash, and then getting the game months later to find out that it wasn't nearly as good as the hype.

This is marketing 101.

All trading card games have the same 2 themes:

> You have to pay a modest amount to be averagely competitive.

> You have to be rich in order to have a realistic chance of being the best.

But what stops me from playing card games is none of these things - it's that there is no world to explore.

Because of WoW factor?

It seems that WoW set the standard.

No, WOW wasn't the first MMO, nor did it set this standard. I'd attribute it more to Lineage 1, DAOC, or Lineage 2 where a player had to be max or near max level to be competitive in the PvP based end game content.

ESO is doing it again, while you can RvR below 50, once a large segment of the player base reaches 50 and perfect their builds and gear anyone who isn't at endgame will simply be fodder when matched up against a"true" 50.

Heck, endlessly repeating a few raids or dailies for gear really is "end game" for me, if that's all there is to do, it's time to stop playing and find a new game.

Or go back to EVE, because while there are reasons to stop playing, reaching end game isn't one of them since it really doesn't exist there.

I totally agree with this - particularly the bit about Eve Online. The 'end game' in Eve Online does not exist for several reasons:

1) it would take 26 years to get every skill - and even then there would be even more to acquire.

2) Even if you had every skill, you would not have reached the 'end game' because the game's content is determined by player actions - which are ongoing, chaotic, dynamic, sometimes predictable and sometimes not.

3) What keeps people playing Eve Online for 10 years or more are the relationships that players have with other players. Some conversations I have overheard have been extremely personal - stuff you might not want to disclose to some members of your own family or friends.

Why are we still talking about this game?

That's a good question! I think it's because most gamers have 'invested' both time and money into this game already. For example, they have probably already bought an in-game item through the cash shop, so they are going to look to return to WoW before they consider a different game.

Also, most MMORPGs on the market have been designed to emulate WoW's successful methods, so Blizzard doesn't need to attract new players - their goal should be to hang on to old players.

This sounds easy, but Blizzard could well mess it up because as companies grow and become successful, they tend to become less innovative for various reasons. Innovation is everything in terms of wanting to be number 1 - as Apple is learning with Samsung etc.

Usually, Blizzard buff classes that are not popular and nerf classes that are too popular.

Therefore, it would be logical to assume that if warriors have the best DPS, they suck in other aspects.

This is the main reason why I stopped playing WoW (classes that were too fun (popular) got the nerf bat, e.g. - fire mage).

Ignoring the "this class doesnt feel fun, so I dont like it" parameters here is how the tanks stack up in damage taken in 25 man heroic raids currently.

But even this doesnt tell the complete story.

How a class (or a game) 'feels' is absolutely everything.

For example, 95% of players say that combat in TSW "doesn't feel right". This has been responsible for some really poor professional reviews

And for me personally, Blizzard totally ruined Fire Mages when talent trees were removed - now, they just feel like utter crap.

I hope Reza writes an article on best DPS classes.

I used to play a fire mage, but WoW stopped being fun for me when Blizzard did away with the talent trees.

It's not fun when you intended to be a glass cannon, but then get demoted to either AoE or crowd control.

I agree with the OP 100% - there should be no more themepark games.

Themeparks are an over-flogged dead horse.

It's time to make all future games sandbox - give the player far more freedom and variety.

The future player housing in WoW and SWTOR look sucky because there are no gameplay features, and you'll be told where to put them.

WoW and SWTOR are not games about freedom - they are gamers about lots of pre-scripted themepark rides.

Player housing should only work in either a sandbox environment (e.g. - MineCraft) or in a game like Dungeon Keeper - where your dwelling is the game.

Player housing would have to include play mechanics like Dungeon Keeper. Otherwise, it's just a gimmick.

It's almost as if CCP had a large collection of artwork hanging around - it might have been artwork that had been created in order to do the Walking In Stations project, that was cancelled - and CCP wondered how they could make money out of all that artwork.

It's a pity that all those lovely buildings in the paintings haven't got anything to do with actual gameplay of Eve Online.

I wish I was able to actually walk around all those buildings in game. I'm not interested in buying the book.

I think the OP might enjoy playing Elite: Dangerous when it's released in a few months:

There is no leveling, you have total freedom - you can go anywhere and everywhere you like, quests are entirely optional and there is no advantage to doing quests over other optional activities - such as being a pirate, a miner, an explorer, a trader, or a combination of things.

Not really a space gamer.. prefer dragons and wizards and castles, oh my

I suspect that what you are looking for is an MMORPG that has a world created using 'procedural generation'. This is because you are wanting such enormous freedom.

The only game I can think of would be an online version of MineCraft - or something more advanced that uses these concepts.

I posted this in another post, however just wanted to add it here as this is my opinion on housing.

For me there has only been one housing that I truly love and it was..... wait for it ... wait for it... here it comes... SWG

No other game I have tried has come close to the housing and all that it entailed in SWG.  That is how housing should be done.

All of these other games including the ones mentioned here in this post.... are truly just a waste of time. As far as the housing systems go.

I want  the random stranger roaming around to be able to come in and look at my handy work.

I want to be able to place my house where I like.  Not floating in the sky or hidden behind an instance wall.

I want people to be able to just show up at my house and by from my vendor inside my house.

I want to be able to craft my house & the things that go inside.

I want to be able to put anything I want inside my house. Not have to choose from a pre determined list.

I want all things for my house to be included with my sub... not purchased from a cash shop on top of my sub.

If those criteria aren't met then it is just a waste of resources IMO.

Again this is just my opinion.

I agree with everything you have just written, and I would go even further...

The player housing should involve gameplay. For example, player housing should be combined with a Clash of Clans, Dungeon Keeper, or tower defense type gameplay. You should be able to create defenses and attempt to raid the dwellings of other players.

Actually, I don't think it's the quests that are the main problem here - I think it's the lack of freedom generally.

I would suggest that if you don't like player progression systems which are all a type of leveling except maybe better disguised in some cases and questing...stop playing any type of CRPG MMO or not, because both are fundamental pillars of the genre.

No - this sounds like an urban legend. How about Eve Online and the forthcoming Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen?

I think Eve Online had the right idea - it's just a pity that the most boring activities (using spreadsheets) happen to be the most rewarding in the game.

In theory, player-made content should hold more interest long-term, but devs don't seem to tap this resource.
