I've been a victim of a GoonSwarm scam (I lost a billion ISK because of it). I don't think that this sort of behaviour is a bad thing - it makes the game more interesting.

However, I don't advise continuing with Eve simply because there are better games on the horizon. Elite: Dangerous should be a better game and it's scheduled to be released roughly this September.

Eve is entertaining, but it's no longer going anywhere as a game. All the new additions are not much more than maintenance, and there is no scope for anything significant to be added.

Don't really understand this show or why Blizzard had it happen at all. Horde players probably outnumber Alliance a good 3:1 or 4:1 if the population was combined, so of course the Horde side would win. The voting was skewed from the moment they decided to have this "content".

The amount of "free publicity" to their game during a content dry spell is why.   This little show was on each week for several weeks on many major gaming news websites.    It's basically a commercial that's ran, but cheaper than running a commercial.   Get it?  As many bad things I can say about Blizzard, I can admit that their marketing team is top-notch grade A and should be given an award of some kind (really wish that GW2's team or Wildstar's team would learn from them).

I disagree. Blizzard shouldn't need a marketing team - the product should be good enough to promote itself.

For example, the upcoming game Elite: Dangerous is promoting itself - the vast majority of the money seems to be going on improving gameplay.

Oh well, besides ignoring the usual suspects spewing vitriol and lies, I wish the best of luck to all of those affected. Transitoriness based on demand of projects is the crux of IT. That, and the wrong decisions.

I think we can agree DUST was a mistake, not conceptually, but it's development, implementation and commercialization. And about WoD, it pains my heart.

No -  you do agree with the "vitrol and lies".  Your first sentence totally contradicts everything else you just wrote.

You do agree with the rest of the critics on this thread, it's just that you wrote your critisisms in a slightly different way.

Angry Joe made an extremely detailed review of ESO, which highlighted all the shortcomings of ESO, and he provided loads of evidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov3B26h12C4

If you need further convincing that ESO isn't up to par, I don't know what to say to you.

Good, I hope this shady corrupt company goes under

Really?  I must have missed something. I thought CCP was fairly popular and well liked.  Do tell.

Eve ihas a very small MMO playerbase. 500k subs top where most are from players who have 5,10, even 20 accounts.

Which places it higher in subs than most any other MMORPG out there this side of WOW.  Who cares how many players the game has, it makes good money and has remained viable for over 10 years, far more than most other titles.

It is widely respected, even by many who don't actively play it, you can't take away their accomplishments no matter how bitter you appear to be.

Someone gank your mining ship?

Nothing like fanboys protecting there game. This game is filled wil players with 20 or more accounts. Heck when i played the game back in 06 i new about 6 players with 20 accounts. Some of them were into isk farming for 3rd party companies if you know what i mean. It was the first time i new gamers that did this because CCP didn't really care about this at the time. CCP was a really good company when it started out. They used to run the game out of a 3 family house in Iceland and they lived in it. But like with any company that grows it turns into crap when the suits get in. Eve was a fun game in its early days.

I totally agree with you.

In addition, the pre-2008 Eve Online mission statement read something like this:

"The goal with Eve Online is to create the most immersive science fiction universe possible, which we will continue to build upon."

During 2008, this mission statement was deleted. CCP's pre-2008 EON magazines were far more interesting and upbeat than they are today. The last exciting edition was the 2008 introduction of worm holes. Since then, Eve Online's depth has plateaued.

It was a mistake to split the Eve world up into 3 (Eve Online, DUST, Valkyrie) back in 2008. By splitting the Eve world up, CCP have severely gimped themselves.

For example, imagine you are a CCP dev and you are trying to think of a ground-breaking improvement to Eve Onine. (Go on - try it!) Even with all the money in the world, it's an almost impossible task because every cool idea requires either getting out of your ship, walking on a planet, or a more immersive perspective!

Eve will still be around for many years, but I reckon that a lot of players will rather be playing Elite: Dangerous or maybe Star Citizen (if they improve it).

Here is a YouTube 'review' of the alpha so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7bmZLUSnNo

Basically, it's a proper alpha so there is a long way to go.

Personally, I'll be playing Elite: Dangerous first (release date roughly this September) and I'll be playing SC whenever it's ready.

I playing casual Eve,most time weekends only

Eve is the most hardcore game in existence because the end game involves keeping up relationships with people AND doing stuff with them.

Perhaps you haven't got to the end game yet. It takes a long time to get the skill points.

I disagree with WoW being on the list. The end game these days is really all about raiding - an activity that usually requires organisation, teaming up, and commitment for a planned few hours. This is in no way 'casual'.

Leveling characters via questing is a casual activity, but since vanilla WoW, this is much less fun than it was. The emphasis of the game has moved away from leveling to raiding via nerfing strong class characteristics, easy leveling, flying mounts, and instant leveling to 80 etc.

Allow me to disagree. Since Wrath of the Lich King WoW has become a very casual friendly MMO, offering to these players plenty of stuff to do. It's one of the main reasons for the skyrocketing off the sub numbers. The only (i think) mmo giving casuals and solo players the means to experience all end game PvE content.

Actually, during WotLK the game peaked at 12 million subscribers and has since fallen to around 7 million. Before they made it as casual friendly, it actually had more subs.

Actually, WoW peaked not long after Cata was released.....oddly enough, the subs started dropping as soon as they tried to bring it back inline to the BC days during Cata.......ahh, i still remember all the crying on the forums about how hard the dungeons were, and have fond memories of seeing the term "wrath baby" spewed everywhere lol.

WoW's subs dropped after they removed the old talent trees.

It's just that it took quite a long time for people to realise that they were never going to attain the same heights of fun.

true but you dont have to do raiding

WOW is very casual friendly if you want to do pet battles at max level instead

or chase after cosmetic achievements instead of raiding

Maybe things have changed, but when I quit WoW several months ago, pet battles were being dominated by Murkalot - a very expensive 'I win' button.

I guess the real message here is: "Hurry up and pay for closed beta access, otherwise as many as TEN THOUSAND players are getting a head start on you !!" ?

No - after beta, everything gets reset. The release date might be around September and then everyone will get a fresh start.

This announcement is just for publicity.

From someone who have played a LOT of MMOs out there, this is the best themepark avaible now... And the combat gets better. I actually like it.

I'm not sure I believe you about the combat. On YouTube, the end game combat with end game gear looks clunky.

The stories look brilliant, but it's a pity that about 75% of people think the combat sucks, and most of the time is spent doing combat.
Everything is relative. I think that Elite: Dangerous when it comes out (around September) will be better than SWTOR. However, there will be no walking about for the first year or so.

I think the way forward is for devs to make a living, breathing world first and then overlay the gameplay on top of that.

A good upcoming example could be Elite: Dangerous.

I think MMORPGs assist with making a living, breathing world, but you need to have a strong NPC 'skeleton' in addition. For example, Eve Online relies too heavily on real people to do the boring tasks.

Blizzard should be spending their money on improving gameplay, not on expensive PR stunts.

If Blizzard wants to raise money they should charge money for players to play genuine alpha and beta test versions. In this way, they get free publicity through people making YouTube videos and don't waste any money on PR.

They would also get fantastic feedback.

This is the approach that Frontier Developments are taking with Elite: Dangerous and it works because they are getting good results.

I think future MMOs should involve Oculus Rift.

As such, I expect WoW to become less popular.

I'm looking forward to Elite: Dangerous' release, roughly this September.

It's worth understanding that WoW's impressive figures are mostly due to how WoW was pre-2008. I know that my Fire Mage will never be the same again, so I've moved on from WoW.

I disagree with the article. A working example of the author's beliefs is TSW - the gameplay is rubbish.

The gameplay should be the main focus. Stories should be considered additional - the icing on the cake.

I think Elite: Dangerous has the right approach.

That article is pure advertising rubbish - there isn't enough detail / facts in order to substantiate the claims.

It's the sort of vague rubbish that career politicians trot out.
