The Secret World: Are the Floodgates Opening?

Crikey - everyone on this thread is as cynical as I am! I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not!

It is finally time to give up hope on a MMORPG with depth.

Originally posted by Vegetto This is a very interesting comment! Personally, I am REALLY looking forward to walking in stations. The problem is that it wasn't being developed quickly enough - Eve really needs proper new content every 6 months to keep it interesting. Most of the devs that were fired were involved with another of CCP's projects - World of Darkness, I believe. This project has been put on ice. This game has nothing to do with Eve (personally, I think that the upcoming Secret World might have had something to do with CCP's decision). I think walking in stations must come out, in some form or another, when DUST is released. This is because it offers a way of communication between the games. |

And if you haven't noticed the repeat PvE in SWTOR in 95% of encounters, you must have a rubbish memory. As a previous poster said, Eve Online is really the Valhalla of MMORPGs because it is deep and it's PvP (unpredicatable humans). However, it's not perfect. Instant gratification in Eve doesn't happen every time you log in.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Pokket's Tips & Tricks for Winning on Alderaan
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/03/12 3:01:30 AM
Originally posted by TheeazD Back in the Golden Age of WoW, many years ago, it would take months of playing to reach the level cap of 60. In SWTOR, it takes weeks of playing. I don't hate SWTOR. If the weakness were not discussed the game might not improve. If that happens, people in BioWare might lose their jobs - so it's a case of being 'cruel to be kind'. One really obvious glaring fault with SWTOR is that you never see an enemy, even on a PvP server. As a result, there are no exciting running battles in SWTOR. For example, here used to be really exciting running battles in Ashenvale in WoW. |

They might have ment "Key Opinion Leader", but I think the real KOL's are your real-life friends and your own eyes when you look at the game. Personally, I think it takes courage to post on the Internet on this subject using a video of yourself. I'm not sure I would have the courage to do it - would you have the courage to do it? |

Originally posted by treysmoothOriginally posted by Mors.Magne Oh, that's a shame - it should be: your equipment + teamwork + individual skill + a bit of luck. I think it's a pity that the space combat isn't on one great big PvP server. Then, Pokket might be able to write an article on leading a fleet - and how to become a real enduring legend amongst the world's players. |

I could say other things about SWTOR's PvP, but I don't want to troll Pokket's thread. It's increadibly rare to have a girl playing a MMORPG and I don't want to discourage them. |

I reckon anyone who has an opinion on level 50 PvP warzones must be a reasonably hardcore player.
I mean, I know SWTOR is easier to level than WoW, but even still ! |

It's too early to say what the trend will be.
I think SWTOR needs to change to continue to flourish. However, in my experience, the world is full of retarded people who will buy into anything! So who really knows! |

I will not be renewing my subscription, even though I have the Collector's Edition.
SWTOR has enough storylines and instances. It now needs to branch out into whole-universe PvP and player-made content.
I don't think this will happen because this isn't the sort of management BioWare seem to have.
I've returned to Eve Online already. |

Originally posted by WhiteLantern I'm not entirely sure what you mean because you've used a double negative + an 'apples and pears' comparison!
First of all, generally speaking, people don't say that themepark games are lobby-based-instance-grinders, until they get to the end game. This is because eventually the planned themepark rides run out.
With regard to Eve, the PvE missions are really only 'training and income' until you feel ready to join a player fleet. Then the game is all about PvP-ing with other fleets. Some players on your side will enevitably love to mine and manufacture and they will replace your ship losses (as long as you do what your Fleet Commander says).
The 'grind' in Eve therefore, is PvP fleet action. However, you are playing with and against highly unpredicatble and often emotional people. Fleet teamspeak with 200+ people can get intense.
This probably won't answer all your questions, but it might give you a clearer picture. |

Eve Online is not stale.
However, one's experience of Eve Online is determined buy the company one decides to keep in the game.
And Eve Online always needs new content, so each 6-monthly expansion needs to be good.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Endgame Grind: PvE vs. PvP
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/31/12 5:26:22 PM
SWTOR's spaceship combat could be 1 server for all PvP, like Eve Online.
If the combat was 1st person perspective for dog fights, this might improve upon Eve. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Voice Acting Ups and Downs
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/28/12 1:10:42 AM
I suspect this article has been sponsored by BioWare. The concept is that SWTOR's strength (voice acting) is presented as a weakness.
Personally, I'm bored with PvE. I'm only buying PvP-centered MMORPGs from now on. |
|

As a seasoned player, I've grown out of PvE. It's PvP only for me now on.

To the OP: please don't use the word 'ironic' when a different word, such as 'insulting' is more descriptive.
This is an example of a truly ironic player: a SWTOR developer playing SWTOR and hating his own game. That is irony. These things are important because you are a writer. By the way, I am also a writer by profession. And no - this is not irony, this is coincidence! Personally, I blame Alanis Morissette for this. In her song "Ironic", every situation had no irony - they were simply unfortunate. I think she taught an entire generation the wrong definition of the word 'ironic'. |

Is it just me, or did Bioware live up to everything they said they would?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/26/12 5:21:45 PM
Yes and no.
Yes - it's an entertaining game for 30 minutes each evening for a few months.
No - there is no reason to PvP unless seeing your name on 'top 50 list of players' really turns you on.
For longevity, Eve Online wins. |

Darkfall is the only game I know with a real sense of exploration. You might want to check it out.
However, I think the game is on the decline. The big problem with it is that it was/is a grind-fest.
