They did the right thing to ban you. Many children are likely to play WoT. Typing a swear word is worse than saying a swear word because you can't use the excuse that it was an exclamation of surprise. The MMORPG community should expect certain standards of people. |

What do our games and ourselves as gamers say about life and society?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/21/13 8:15:00 AM
Originally posted by zymurgeist This is interesting. The fact that sweeping for mines or parachuting doesn't bother you suggests that you must have undergone lots of training, so the experience is acceptable to you.
Nevertheless, the amygdala fear response is deep seated within us. For example, imagine you are walking along in the jungle. You are thinking about the finer points of mine clearance in Serbia or the daily quests in WoW. Suddenly you see a tiger. You would freeze as the amygdala interrupts your frontal cortex - You don't want to continue to think about clearing mines or WoW as you prepare to flee from the tiger or fight it. |

Originally posted by zymurgeist The reason you'd rather play WoW than sweep for mines in Serbia is due to the amygdala in your brain. The amygdala in your brain is totally adverse to real risk (that could harm you). Playing WoW etc isn't real risk, so your amygdala doesn't fire off. |

Fantasy themes are popular in MMORPGs. Books (stories) such as Lord of The Rings are responsible. This is similar to old fire-side stories and tales. Lots of games have quests with stories. So I think this tells us that we like stories.
Particularly stories that explain things. |

Most games are about violence - risk & reward. Most games have elements of adventure - we like new sensations. Most games are competitive - it's in our nature to want to improve ourselves, or want to be better than others. Most MMORPGs have 'guilds' - we feel comfortable with social groupings. All games are ultimately safe - even 'full loot' games - we like security. It's this lack of real fear which makes it easy to start playing games. The 'risk' in games isn't real risk.
What I find surprising is the lack of sexual themes. Perhaps it's because games are developed with pre-pubertal children in mind.
I think there is a gap in the market for adult games that have more sexual themes.

They nerfed fire mages and I really loved my fire mage. Ba$+@rd$ - I can't believe they did this. I no longer enjoy the gameplay. |

Wasted $40 : Don't bother with this game

I play DFUW and I agree with the OP that the login problems are a real pain.
Personally, I can't believe that AV made the world smaller. This is obviously to force PvP onto people (there is nowhere to hide). This limits 'lifestyle choice' within the game. |

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Online has traps that thieves can disarm.
I suspect that D&D online might have 'pushed the envelope' for roleplaying a thief further than any other game.
I think it's possible to try this game for free. |

[Column] General: The Best MMOs of 2013... So Far

I agree with the general consensus of opinion: This list demonstrates that the MMORPG genre is at a very low point.

I think DFUW is a genuinely good game, but it's easy for the resource grinding to take over.

Originally posted by cirsyndic I'm sorry to hear that so few are playing Perpetuum. I think the biggest problem with Perpetuum is that they didn't keep adding new features quickly enough. For example, it would have benefited from a first-person perspective view with faster robots. I think the 'god view' from above eliminates immersion. Even GW2 suffers from this with all its content. The re-release of Darkfall might be the final nail in the coffin. |

I prefer DFUW's first-person perspective compared to GW2. I find DFUW far more immersive.
There is a lot of grind in DFUW, but: > A lot of this can be done AFK. > It makes losing or winning kit far more meaningful.
It depends on what playstyle you prefer, I suppose. |

This is an addictive game. Here is some brief advice
General Discussion « Clash of Clans 5/14/13 3:53:03 AM
This is a very addictive game - it has elements of:
If you feel tempted to make in-app purchases, buy builder's huts. There is a massive drop-off in value between these and everything else on offer. Buying 'gems' as an in-app purchase to speed things up is really expensive (1 gem = about 8 minutes), so I only use these if a skill change is required during an important unexpected meeting at work. This is because, generally speaking, the second most valuable commodity in the game is time. This is followed by gold, and finally elixir. |
|
|
I intend playing DFUW for the long-haul, but there are problems with the game, e.g. - server down for excessively long periods + no communication.
I have to be honest and post about it because it's a matter of integrity. |
