Blizzard's policy on passwords the root cause of Account Hacking success?

Wrong, wrong, wrong... and wrong! A friend's account got hacked. Iirc, his highest lvl toon was 27, at least it was below 30. According to you, he was targeted because of his "big amounts of gold".... lol. "They don't use keyloggers"? Maybe not in the majority of cases (don't know for sure), but they ARE used. It is a WELL KNOWN FACT that gold sellers will use any account they get their hands on, either for stealing gold, farm, or simply use it's toons (or make new ones) to stand in the cities spamming their ads. Heard about phishing? Such mails are not sent to carefully chosen individuals, they're sent to just about everyone. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. |

"May not be for everyone". Of course not. No game is. |

LoTRo, Can't decide if I hate it.

Ok, let's assume Rebel is a typical WoW player (the poster you quoted twice). Let's further assume you're the typical Rift player. Now, which game seems to have the "emo teens" you're talking about? The answer is very clear, at least to me. |

I guess that depends on how well you like Rift. And, as others have said, try WoW up to lvl 20 for free. It won't give you any ideas about endgame and such, but it will give you a taste of how the different classes are, and you'll be able to try a couple of instance too, if that something you like. Personally, I'll never go back to Rift. For me, it was a shallow copy of WoW, with better graphics. |

Even such combat gets boring when you've killed 50,000 mobs. There's just no way around that. Making combat feel skill based over time, would require it to constantly change, else you WILL get used to it and it will feel repetitive. Making combat feel skill based and varied over time, would be extremely hard for a developer, if possible at all. The WoW era dead? Sorry, but WoW still has over 10m subs and is nowhere near dead, and though we all are sick and tired of companies trying to copy WoW, it isn't hard to see WHY they try. |

Blizzard's policy on passwords the root cause of Account Hacking success?

Further proof of him being a troll: Post #6: "Also, I don't go to the Blizzard forums anymore, and haven't for 5years" The link in post #1 tells a different story. That thread is 4 days old, not over 5 years... lol.
I do agree that Blizzard could have done more, but he OP does a horrible job in presenting his case. |

Blizzard's policy on passwords the root cause of Account Hacking success?
General Discussion « Diablo 3 5/26/12 6:34:32 PM
OP, a lot of idiots use the simplest passwords you can possibly think of. Sure, Blizzard could have done something to prevent that, but blaming them entirely, and not putting any blame of the users (unless you did in some later posts), that's just absurd. You may or may not know about such things in your job, but there's no way for us to know, therefore using such as an argument has no weight whatsoever. Especially considering all the fools on this site that have clamed to be developers, marketing directors, and who knows what. Saying "If you worked in the IT field you'd understand ..." (post 5) is just arrogant, again: because there's no way for us to know if you're telling the truth or not. Also, you have no way of knowing what other posters on this site do for a living, or did in the past. Implying that Blizzard is doing a poor job on security on purpose, just to sell more authenticators, takes away all your cred, imo. And no, I'm not some mindless fanboy defending Blizzard against everything, if that's what you were going to reply. |

Mmorpg.com's moderators are often behaving weird, and do things that's hard to understand. One of my posts was edited by a mod, and the only thing he did, was adding a "imo". I made a short comment to that, calling it weird, and apologized for an off-topic post. And what happened? The reply got deleted, and I was issued a warning. Also, I once quoted a post, and added a comment. A little later the post was gone, and I got a mail - issued a warning. But this time, I complained, and they actually removed the warning from my history, at least the mail said that. But the idiotic part, was that their mail also said they've reacted to the wrong post... I really like this site, but the moderators here doesn't impress me at all. |

The Elder Scrolls Online: Targeting the MMO Market
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/26/12 8:39:48 AM
The more I read about this game, the less appealing it gets. For example, lately there's been huge focus on PvP, and it sounds like this is one of the most important aspects of the game. And I'm not gonna buy a PvP game, it's just not for me. Didn't like the initial news about TES going MMO, and for me it's getting worse whenever something new is revealed. I love the TES series, but I'm probably skipping this one. |

Blizzard's BattleTag is the best idea I've seen in a long time.

Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but: With the exception of PvP, there will not be any content patches at all for D3. Only balancing and bug fixes. There's a Blizzard comment about this on the EU D3 forums. Sorry, too lazy to dig up a link now, but search for yourself if you need proof. |

I think you need to update your knowledge about wow loot. There are a few differences from earlier. For instance, if no one rolls need on certain loot (yes, epic too), the winner get it WITHOUT it being bop, it will be boe. There are loads of such equips being sold ingame. Not to mention, certain VP items (right now: wrists + feet) are boe, not bop. These are just examples of stuff that would guaranteed end up on a RMAH if wow got it now. However, the new upcoming loot rules in MoP may change this. For example, some loot (maybe all in dungeons?) will require you to roll BEFORE the items is revealed. Meaning, if you win, you will always get something for your class. Don't know if random boe loot will still exist after this. I don't want a RMAH in WoW, but if Blizzard wants to, it wouldn't be hard to implement it. A lot more stuff would be boe if that happened, no doubt, but if D3 RMAH is successful, it won't be a surprise if greed wins. |

I doubt Diablo 3 has much effect on WoW. Of course there is a certain amount of WoW players who also plays D3 (the annual pass success alone is proof of that), but I do not believe many will cancel WoW to play D3. Personally, I've played through D3 normal, and that's the end for me. i have no interest in playing it over and over again. The game is too repetitive for that. I know a lot of players aims to beat D3 at highest difficulty, but I also know there are many like me - done and moving on / back to whatever they were doing earlier. Several D3 players also left the game early, simply because the game disappointed them. So quite a lot of players are done with D3 already, only a week after the release. Also, on my WoW server (Anachronos, EU), I can't say I have noticed less ppl after the release of D3, at least there's no exodus, so to speak. RMAH in WoW? Maybe, maybe not. If it gets successful in D3, be sure that other companies will copy it. But I doubt we'll see it in WoW the next couple of years. Btw, I don't think MoP will cause "a massive rise in WoW players again" as said in the article. I have the impression that people were far more hyped about Cata than MoP. Could be wrong, of course, but that's what I think.

Sorry, Bizkit, but that is just completely wrong. Getting to the highest difficulty is NOT what the game is all about, not for me, and not for quite a lot of other players. The most common opinion I read about the series, is about the socalled "loot lottery", and not replaying the whole shit again and again. |

Well, that's kinda my point. RPGs are almost always about a lot of investment, spending lots of time developing your toon. Permadeath forces you to start over from scratch. It may work in some games, but not in typical RPGs. Which is why I'm sure it's NOT "the future of RPGs". |

May be something on your end. then. I re-downloaded everything just a few hours ago, to install it on my laptop in my apartment (forgot to bring a copy from the stationary in my house). I had no problems whatsoever, everything worked just fine. And yes, I also use the EN/UK version. |
|
|
Do you use the predownload installer? If so, is it older than from last sunday morning? If yes, that's the problem. I see you're from the UK. There was a problem with the old EU installer, both the UK and the German version. You may have received a mail about it, I did. |
