General: Enahnced Voice Morphing Announced

I listened to their examples on their site, and I know that better voice modulation exists elsewhere. You can easily tell that the voice is being altered. it sounds tinny and synthetic.

Well, it's Friday again, no beta invite for me. Hope maybe next week they'll up the amount of invites to 1,500.

I'm gunna go back to the SNES days for single-player: Earthbound/Mother 2, because of it's unique art style and audio that created this eerie, retro, nostalgic feel that I have never gotten from a game ever since, and the story was so enjoyable and it had some funny moments. Also, another game that comes very close is an Action RPG made by Enix before it became a part of Square, Terranigma. It had a VERY unique story and premise, where the character lives in a "shadow-mirror" of the earth, but ends up opening pandora's box and having to save the world by guiding the history of the world along through key events, like returning the land masses to the earth, then the plants, then the animals, then the people, and then the knowledge, etc. Each Chapter gets more complex, and the later chapters have many references to actual historical events, like one of the bosses you defeat is Bloody Mary, I forget exactly why, but it was cool. I'd guess it's similar to Chrono Cross, but it's an Action RPG. I also believe Dark Cloud, and Dark Cloud 2's game mechanics are very similar to this one, perhaps inspired, I mean, it is published by Square/Enix. I recommend trying to find ROMS of these (as they aren't being recirculated in the US, only Earthbound/Mother 2 is in Japan, on the GBA) and playing them. Their gameplay stands the test of time. Now, when it comes to MMORPGs, I'm really not sure. As I've been pretty dissappointed by the MMORPGs I've played ever since my first one, Everquest. I've learned a lot about what I believe works, and doesn't work when it comes to MMORPGs, and have considered a career as a game designer. |

Originally posted by Sramota Sorry if this is off-topic, but this is the reason I will not play AoC. There are already too many games that promote the occult as a means of power and conflict resolution, but now we have games that promote making pacts with and summoning demonic entities, and with the release of Age of Conan, becoming outright possessed by them. Now getting away from my opinion, to some speculation: If there are demons, they would probably enjoy the glorification that they would recieve from this game. And finally, here's a question I have to wrap things up. Sramota, are you a satanist? |

I recieved a letter from the Tabula Rasa Newsletter an hour ago... Future Tabula Rasa Beta testers! I want to thank you for your interest in Tabula Rasa. I am extremely excited about the progress that has occurred over the recent months and I can’t wait for you to get in and test it out yourselves! Tabula Rasa is still in its “Friends & Family” Beta phase, but it will be entering Closed Beta within the next several weeks. Once Closed Beta has begun, alerts will go out to small groups of players from this list. This will occur in waves, so I ask that you please be patient. In the mean time, if you haven’t read about the game’s recent progress, I invite you to check out some of the press here or see the latest gameplay movie from GDC here. Additionally, there is a contest currently running based on the new language that I created for the game called Logos. You can learn more about the language and your chance at having an NPC named after you here. Thanks again for your interest and I hope to contact you very soon! Sincerely, Richard Garriott I cannot wait to try this game out! |

I don't see the reason why Erinys would be lying. I mean, it's obvious this game has to be one of the most rushed and buggiest MMORPGs ever at release, with very fatal bugs too. I remember playing AO when it first came out, at least the bugs were mostly performance related. I've heard enough, I don't even wanna go near this game, both with its bugs, and how its gameplay sounds like going back to the stone-age of EQ1 gameplay. I cannot wait for when games like Sword of the New World, The Chronicles of Spellborn, and Tabula Rasa go into Open-Beta. Those games appear to be doing something fresh and new with the MMORPG genre.

But for now, Guild Wars it is, especially considering how I never really got past post-searing, might as well get my money's worth and finish the Prophecies campaign. |

Originally posted by solareusYes I did. It's just I know it's not a high priority of theirs. They have so many technical and balance issues to address, and in my opinion most of the human, and some of the other race's hairstyles need to be scrapped/overhauled. I doubt they'll ever do that. I don't really know, I just dislike the game, and it's more than the art design, but I can't put my finger on it. |

Let me be the first poster to go out on a limb and agree with the OP. I as excited about this game after I quit WoW after playing on and off for about 2 years, finally getting to almost level 69 in TBC before realizing the endgame just wasn't happening for me, and I wasn't interested in any character classes to replay again. Then I did the Stress Test, and I was quite hooked, but then I got into the closed beta test soon after, and the game just lost my interest after less than a week. The art design flaws especially got to me. Many of the hair styles suck, including how all your hair would suddenly dissappear, with some helmets showing the suddenly bald back of your head. Not to mention how shields interact poorly with running animations, and stay stuck to your arm and never get sheathed on your back like in WoW. It looks crappy. Graphical issues are some of the most critical things for game immersion, and LoTRO has messed up on some major points.

Originally posted by brokenneedle Exactly what I came out of it feeling like. Some of the models and hair styles in character creation really suck too, and the fact that they couldn't make a way for you to have hair and hats at the same time. Not only that, but how they said leveling in the final game is gunna be slower than it currently is (can't imagine that) in closed beta. Too slow in my opinion. When it comes to MMORPG, even graphical flaws like this stick out to me like a sore thumb. But I've realized, it seems every single MMORPG out there has been designed by people who don't know the meaning of true immersion: eliminating every graphical realism issue, and implementing creatively explained and made plausible game elements. I'm looking for the perfect MMORPG, and it has yet to be made. With how I've played nearly every MMORPG ever made, maybe I should start trying to design one myself, and see if anyone wants to develop it. |
