Well the ones that use offensive names I report immediately.   I saw a guy today named derFuehr, he was reported and gone soon after.   Celebrity names the same.

I put the ones that alternate capital letters on ignore most of the time, I most certainly won't get in a group with them.  I have been known to make snide remarks about those that put x's on the front and end of the name because of the lack of any form of imagination.

Of course the f2p games you really cannot do much, but I will still try to report really offensive names.

Anyone using such ridiculous names just displays a complete lack of maturity and the less I interact with them the better.   Age is not the problem, I have found some very interesting 12-14 year olds that I would not hessitate to play with, while some in the 20's can't seem to get beyond their early teens.

Wow in that regard, has done more damage to pvp than any other game.  Too many runs through their pvp instances has made too many players immune to teamwork.   You just can't use a pug anymore in pvp because everyone is out for themselves  only.

Potential means NOTHING.

They've been talking about how great this thing is for god knows how many years.

It's time to put up or shut up already. And it doesn't look like they're putting up anything to me except more words.

Tasos would go all out in the Warcry journals saying how amazing feature X is with little to nothing to back it up.

And here we are Nov 16 2008.. with no open Beta to play.. no date for a commercial launch..  and there's what? 6 weeks left until the end of Dec?

And I am not a realist?????  ya ok.

Why don't YOU answer something for change.

If the game is so finished, Beta ready, and launch ready in 6 weeks --  Then why cant we all login right now and play?  Trust me there's a reason.. and it's NOT because they're "doing things their own way"

There's absolutely NO reason to hold back a finished MMORPG from the public that supposedly has the features and completeness that they say it has right now and is launching in 6 weeks unless it isn't anywhere near as complete and ready as they say it is...  it's not like it would be the first time.

6 weeks rolls by in a flash..  In these next 6 weeks they are going to have to do all of these things:

1. Begin a massive public play test / Beta. This has begun, as per the devs.

2. Fix all the problems that pop up during the Beta.

3. Announce a release date and meet that date. This takes, what? Ten minutes?

4. Start marketing / Launch a new website.... They are not going to launch an expensive campaign, and redesigning the website can be done post-release.

5. Put all kinds of consumer support in place.

It aint gonna happen.

First, Beta ready means that it will play without crashing every 5 minutes. It still is likely to have quite a number of bugs that are currently being ferreted out. Aventurine is not running the kind of beta that has become common in the industry. Beta is not a free chance to play the game, it is a time for bugs to be worked out.

Second, the high level of negativity is not realism. Realism is the ability to determine probable out-comes. Highly likely to highly unlikely is as far as a realist is ever going to go. They will never state a certainty in any direction, because they realize the fallacy of doing so. Also, the less information given, the less definitive a realist becomes. You are not a realist.

DF is likely to come out after Christmas and could easily be delayed till Q1, but it is also likely that it could be released mid-December. After-all, the Beta process only takes a month for most forms of software. If something is truly ready for Beta when Beta begins, Beta will be short.

Edit: @ Kishe: that was in '03 actually. It has been 5 years, a fairly normal development period.

Please explain to me what MMO developer had even a closed beta shorter than 6 weeks?  Every one I can think of usually had a 3 month or longer closed beta.  You are talking of a closed beta of 3 weeks and then an open beta of three weeks?  You have to out of your mind.  Ask any games developer, that is a sure recipe for disaster.  I don't even think Tasos is dense enough to think we will believe that.

If they actually ignore caution and throw this game to the public in December without a significant testing period you are talking about a debacle waiting to happen.  No way they can address bugs and fix them in that amount of time.  Remember it almost always happens you fix one bug only to find out you caused 5 new ones.  Happens all the time, especially if you are rushing something as complicated as a MMO into release.

I just hope they wake up and go for a late 1st quarter release and get some significant testing done.

Well since closed beta supposedly just started the chances of an open beta this year are practically nil.  Never heard of a closed beta shorter than 6 weeks, if not more.

Remember these are the people who previously announced beta twice and then never delivered.  Their idea of met dates and ours are entirely different.  When Adventurine states a date it means generally in the next decade.

Best guess for open Beta is probably January if they are truely serious, but depending on problems found in closed beta it could be much longer.  Remember they have a very small staff and not a big budget,  so their testing so far has been very limited.  My big concern is not the game itself, but the servers.  The only testing they have been able to do is simulation testing which really does not stress servers the way it will be in actual use.

All we can do is hope they have all their ducks in a row.  A bad release will be the worst thing that can happen to this game.

Personally the previous poster pretty much nailed the situation as it will probably happen, but if they do release this game in December I will add the prediction of a major disaster happening.  Without extensive testing the chances are extremely high for major problems to develop.

There are some decent info threads on this forum, but if you want a lot of info check out the official forums.

Problem with the official forums, there are a lot of inherently wrong statements about the game floating around them.  Hard to separate the wind from the chaff.

Best bet is to wait and see what the game is when it goes into beta or release.   No one truely knows what the game is as no one has played and reported on it.

1. Everything drops can be looted on death.

2. Get ganked anywhere by anyone.

If you wanna get an idea of how that is just go play on Asheron's Call Dark Tide server. It's exactly like that.  And it's brutal man.

Bzzt wrongo.  It is not even close to Darktide.  Been there done that.  Darktide is and always will be the wrong way to implement pvp.  Pvp without consequence is a recipe for a dead game.  Darkfall is supposed to have factions, if so, woe be to the player that kills his own faction.

I'd sure like to know how they invested that much money into Tabula Rasa and produced so little content.  The game has been out over a year and they have added virtually nothing to it, what do they expect?

As to Aion, it will be a big draw in the East, but I don't think it will do that well in the West.  I could be wrong though.

The problem with DDO it is too like D&D.  You can't get much closer in a MMO.

Pretty naive conclusion by the OP.  What better way to kill competition, build up a game and then when it does not meet expectations makes it much easier to mock it.

Remember, both Funcom and Mythic had extensive MMO experience, yet neither produced a blockbuster.

Bioware has NO MMO experience.  They are new kids to the genre.  We shall just have to wait and see what they produce.  Don't forget that Lucas Arts is involved and everyone knows how bad they messed up SWG.

All I can say is this guy has one hell of a imagination.  How he managed to get ganked on a non pvp server is beyond me, of course his entire article is striclty a figment of his imagination to start with.

The entire article is so poorly written, you have to wonder how this guy ever got out of grade school.

Does not say much for the OP when he identifies this crap as a great article lol.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the client in this game is poorly written, hence it lags a lot soon as you get a few people on screen.

I think it is absurd that nothing attacks you unless you initiate it.  Where is there any sense of danger?  How absolutely boring.

I find the combat system to be reticent of 90's strategy games, only not as good.  Trying to call that an improvement is a real stretch.  There is more strategy playing tiddly winks than their combat offers.

Best thing I ever did was delete this mess off my hard drive.

You can basically ignore every one of these so called experts.  Not one of the has played the game nor knows what features it will have.  So as to the question of what happens at death, not one of them actually knows.

Nothing worse than the ignorant that try to appear knowledgable.

Will npcs actually take things from your grave, who knows?  Is there only one avatar per account, who knows.  We won't know until open beta and even then it could change.  Personally if they go with the one avatar per server idea, they will effectively make it very difficult to play this game.  You just can't have a full loot game and only one avatar.  Especially if it is skill based and they put caps on skill points.  The only way they could get around this would be to have a separate cap for trade skills and combat skills.   If they don't do that and combine both in a cap, you can guarentee this game will be dead before it started.

In UO everything remained on your body when you died and the npcs would occasionally take things off your body.   Most people, as mentioned above made crafters first to help with the replacement of equipment.  If you had a fancy sword, you did not use it, you either made or bought one someone made, same with armor.

Adventurine has to be careful, if they make it too difficult, no one will play it.  They is why I got a real chuckle at so of the so called experts above.  Some of their so called facts would make the game unplayable and that is not what Adventurine is aiming for.

As to ganking, you don't gank members of your faction, if you do, you get blacklisted and you will be kill on sight to everyone, I very much doubt there will be much ganking early on in the game.

The dual and quad core processors are somewhat of a joke when it comes to games.  Most games only take advantage of the primary processor.   So more importantly, the cpu is not the deciding factor with games, it is the graphics card, amount of memory and speed of the hard disk(s) that determine whether you can run a game.

So your notion of using a 3D Mark score would be not much more useful than the current specs.

Going to be a bunch of disappointed players if they think Darkfall is going to be available in December.  IF they actually do put Darkfall into production this year, you can guarentee it will be a disasterous mistake.   I have had enough of buggy games.

Instancing is the lazy developers way of dealing with player conflict.  What is the point of having a MMO when you isolate everyone with instances?  Sure some people like them, the anti social ones that is.

And a big reason AoC failed was over use of instancing.  That is a solid fact.  Wow gets away with it, because they limit the instances to major dungeons.  They really had no choice with the loot based game they have, otherwise people would just camp the bosses.

I think u r making a grievous error at this point. I haven't seen u mention Shaiya http://shaiya.aeriagames.com/ at all on this site or in the forums. Go ahead and flame me for postin about a korean port game but it is well made and better than most u have listed on this site. I thought this site was for all MMo's not just a select few that what ? Give kickbacks, free in game stuff??? Check it out it may be worth your time...More than runescape thats for sure.

Sinecerely, a long time reader.

First off, if you click on the little forums tab, you will see that there is a Shaiya forum for this game.  I am not a big proponent for Aeria games, everything game they seem to support is a major grindfest.  But then again I have not tried this one either.

Well for me, the original UO was my favorite game.  The sandbox aspect it was built on, made for endless gameplay.  So logically you would think that Darkfall would be my choice.  Well after years of lies and deceit from Adventurine, I find I am highly skeptical that Darkfall will be anything other than a rough cut piece of quartz.  While Aion, even with it;s eastern slant will be far more polished and you can fly.

You do understand that Kotor is about 2-3 years out at the minimum?

Rather ridiculous creating a guild for a game that may never see the light of day.  Sure Bioware is doing it, still does not mean it will ever get published.

Well when two relatively unknown characters jump up and announce a movie and a MMO, it pretty much screams to be a bit skeptical.   Even experienced development teams have tilted at windmills lately with their MMO's and you don't understand why there is a lot of skepticism on announcement like this?
