Every gamer has a different definition of what pay to win means. It is obvious some people will consider this game pay to win and simply telling them it is not isn't going to change that.  In the end each player will be deciding if these cash shop items are enough to turn them off the game.

The ability to convert real money to gold as well as using advantages, purchased from the Cash Shop and through the use of multiple accounts, to leverage early control of resources to establish a lasting power base is not subjective.

Have you heard of a little game called EVE? Have you heard of a little item within it called PLEX? yes? then you now know how much your opinion resembles a Taiwanese prostitute's posterior when it comes to validity here. There is no advantage gained without massive, impossible to sustain investment (yes even for a rich person, a russian magnate tried bank rolling his own alliance in EVE in the early days and he sunk the game time card market so badly it stopped being possible for him to even attempt it and just for reference his own words were that he spent well within the 100s of thousands of dollars trying it).

Your arguments are at best two dimensional and at worse knowingly ignorant of the wider effects saturation of cash shop currency would have on the market. You could say that the xp pots would be a advantage if the game had no level caps as is though you are reaching so far you may as well ask Zeus for a beer.

How did Eve get into this discussion.  Eve is nothing like this game.   Eve is actually a sandbox, stuff comes from the playerbase not the cash shop.  Since you don't know much of Eve, plex was not added until a few years ago, prior to that a lot of people had very negative accounts because they bought isk through illegal means.  So much for you nonsensical story.

Granted every game has to pay for itself, but cash shops like this one just bleed you dry.  It is fine if you do not mind that, but do not be blind to the fact that the cash stop design here completely destroys any inkling of a sandbox.   I would even play that tired game Wow over this game any day in the week and I have not even touched Wow in years, at least it's cash shop does not effect the game whatsoever.

The problem for me with ArchAge, it is exactly like a dozen other games out of Asia.   There are worse cash shops out there, but if you have not figured it out yet, most of the people on this forum are already wise to what this game is, still obviously pay-to-win no matter how you try to look at it.

Yep - this is MUCH tamer than RU and Korean shops IMO.

The whole P2W argument holds no water.

I don't see anything here that will make you win on PvP because you spent cash in the shop.

Gold Conversion for resource control?

Multiple Accounts to get around the LP Pot CDs?

Speed Boost in PVP?

XP Boosts=P2W in PVP games.

Yeah, no P2W there.

The Koran version is solidly pay-to-win, I just don't see how they could change the cash shop design that much to avoid it.  Trion is going to take a lot of heat from this game because of the cash shop design.  They had to know that when they signed the contract.

Personally I don't see how you can have a f2p sandbox game, the cash shop just kills any sandbox design as the item shop is the source of so much stuff not the players creating it.

If you think this game is good, you should play it for awhile, you will soon change your mind.

There is a lot of good stuff coming out of Asia, but as long as they are stuck in the f2p mode their games will never garner the acclaim.  There games are always about how much cash you spend as the number one deciding factor.  Westernizing them does not fix it because you cannot change the design and continue to get updates.

Just reading the first two lines confirms all I need to know about this game.  The standard f2p cycle will continue.  All those equipment powerups purchased in the item shop will soon be useless as they are now raising the level cap and you will have to do it all over again.

This will go on ad infinitum until the playerbase realizes they are getting soaked.

Notice NCSoft owned two of these and both were making money albeit on the decline.  I don't buy NCSoft games any more, you never know when they will yank the carpet from under you.

I have to agree with them killing Warhammer,  it was mediocre at best and there were far better games out there to play.  It had too many design issues that were not correctable without major pain.

As to SWG, SOE just did not want to pay for the IP anymore and after they NGE'd it, not many wanted to play the game anymore.

I'm sorry but, I pretty strongly disagree with the reviewer here, the very way the review was written indicates a deliberate attempt to compare it to certain other titles and in so doing, reveal a prejudice in the mind of the reviewer, furthmore many features of the game are not mentioned by this reviewer, I strongly suspect they failed to play the game, and given they have omitted some of the coolest features of the game in their review

Innovation 3, so the fact there are dozens of interesting vehicles, grand prix races every day, and over half a dozen classes of mech ranging from arial and anti air to seige and assault and so on, is totally omitted.

The fact that every half an hour theres a nie dota style pvp battleground, where you control one of many mechs or giant creatures in battle which is pretty darn fun, isnt even mentioned. Nor is the easy dungean grouping options and many prompts to go to there, instead were subjected to oh I never felt the need to actually use the features of the game... who is this reviewer and why have they got a job they dont deserve?

It's fine to give a bad review but not if they failed to try or write about half the features of the game in their appraisal, it smacks of a lack of playtime from the reviewer, if your going to complaign do so about the features, some of your review sections are a literally uterrly ommiting any mention of anything relevant to that section, in my opinion this is bad writing by a bad reviewer, and a poor reflection on standards at MMORPG.

Reminds me of that eurogamers review of darkfall, the one which gave it 2 /10 and the devs found out the game reviewer logged in on his provided account less than 5 hours , 4 hours of which werent actually spent playing the game, you can tell when someones played a game is reviewing it and if they have not, this guy hasnt played the game.

Well as to innovation it should be zero as there is absolutely zip that is innovate about this game, everything is copied from other games.  Sure there are fun aspects of it, but that only lasts a short time.  Sounds like you did not invest much time in playing it either.  The paywall is significant once you reach mid-level and never goes away.  So the review is actually too high IMO.  Should have been at best a 2 or a 1.  The game is that bad and when combined with the significant expense needed to play it, it just means there are a ton of much better games out there.

So the reviewer was spot on giving it a low score.  Perhaps you should take the time to play it some more before you fully understand the games failures.

Actually this discussion of copyright violations is meaningless.  A mod does not violate the copyright.  Any legal eagle can tell you that.

What the mod does violate is the user agreement you sign when you play the game.  Blizzard successfully took some modders to court because of violation of this and won.  They did not sue for copyright reasons because they knew they had no case in that respect.

So much for all the highlighted nonsense.

Browser based?

Looks it to me. I sure as hell hope not.

If so it will be as popular as BSG and Game of Thrones online.

Unity is a very power engine for browser games.

http://www.kongregate.com/games/rocketeergames/red-crucible

http://apps.warnerbros.com/wrathofthetitans/3dgame/

You might not like the art-style or the direction they take it. This however can not be blamed to the limitiation of a browser based game.

In fact looking at this movie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLU9swLg2BQ

It clearly show that whatever engine they use. It can create good looking graphics.

About the only thing the Unity engine is used for is kids in school fooling around with games.  Beyond that it is a huge POS.

No decent developer would ever attempt to use it due to it's many limitations.  The art style is highly limited by the Unity engine, it has nothing to do with it's being in a browser which itself is limiting.

Exactly why I don't play Square Enix games.  Clueless publisher.

You would think with all the negative publicity they have had the past two years they would try to avoid more, but no, clueless as always.

What negative publicity? As far as I am aware, FF is doing great. Tomb Raider sold out and Nosgoth is killing it.

Some guy broke the law and you take their side. Funny, if they were patient by ONE day, they would have their, LEGITIMIT, copy of the game, localized for them.

Where have you been?  FFIV flopped and was only just recently rereleased.  That almost destroyed any reputation they had.

As to be illegal, depends on how you look at it and from what country you are viewing it.  After the disaster with FFIV I would not touch one of their titles with a 10 fool pole.

LOL, sadly very true.

It would be nice if CCP stopped catering to the large alliances and actually looked at their combat design.  Large formations of ships should be highly unwieldy and should have significant reduction in firepower.  Large should never mean overwhelming.

Mining is still borked and in the dark ages.  A major design fixture of the game and they have never addressed the issue more than dabbling along the edges.

Will have to wait and see if the industry changes play out.  0.0 is a disaster, the only way in that area is to be slave of someone.  If that is not broken, I don't know what is.

We all spend far too much time trying to define MMO's and reading on this forum instead of playing games...what happened?

Different strokes for different folks.  Attempting to call this game a MMO would confuse people when it is just a FPS game.  I think you will find that for most people that is a huge difference.  This game is far more Diablo like than anything else and you certainly would not call Diablo a MMO.

So it is important to discern the difference.

I don't think they will ever fix this game.  I think Square has lost it.

Exactly why I don't play Square Enix games.  Clueless publisher.

You would think with all the negative publicity they have had the past two years they would try to avoid more, but no, clueless as always.

Someone mentions Firefly and people get excited.  Time to come down to earth, it is a browser based game and not even close to a MMO game.

While they claim it will be multiplayer, I expect that will never fly.  If fact I really doubt the game will ever make it to release.  The staff is very inexperienced and they don't have much funding because of that.

Maybe we will see a Firefly game someday, but this is not it.

I suggest we give Daum a chance.  I have not been impressed with many of the western companies translation efforts on other games.

I really get tired of people who through around the sandbox label who really have no clue what that entails.  This game is not really a sandbox, it just has sandbox elements.  The core of the game is most definitely NOT sandbox at all because it has classes.

Sorry Rob, your attempt to portray this game as a MMO is ludicrous.  Everyone knows it is just another FPS cloaked to appear as a MMO.

The classic MMO elements are just not there or are so nebulous as to be nonexistent.

Making you buy your loot definitely changes it from a f2p to a p2p.  Why would anyone even bother to play this game when you have to pay for your loot.  That has to be the most ridiculous pay model anyone has ever conceived!
So we have the CEO believing in the moon landing conspiracy.  Earth to CEO if you have a good telescope and a clear night you can see at least one of the moon landers.  Another person running around with the word "Clueless" clearly stamped into his forehead.  Wonder what will happen when if and when he exits from his fantasy world?
I saw a lot of people raving about this game.  Not sure why.  I bought it and did not really like it, kids tried it, again did not like it.  I thought the controls were horrid, Gameplay is mediocre at best.  Either all the people raving about it have seriously low standards or they have never played a good rpg game.  Comparing this with Baldur's Gate is laughable.

This game is the very definition of pay to win.

Could you elaborate?  I'm not questioning you.  I'm positive you are most likely correct.  I'm just curious because the video looked alright.  I don't feel like wasting any time with something Pay 2 win. Thanks in advance!

Name me a PW game that is not P2W.  I cannot think of any.  Seems imbedded in most of their titles.  Kind of a shame really because their some of their games are pretty good, but some of the worst cash shops around.

Wow Obsidian and Mail.ru how low obsidian has fallen

well that was mean.....explain.

Mail.ru doesn't have a super great reputation what with how they incorporate a virus in downloads around the internet that makes it so your homepage is changed to Mail.ru (a russian website btw), and it's all but impossible to change it unless you uninstall whatever browser you're using and redownload it.

More American propaganda. Theres an option in settings to stop it going to the homepage.

Sorry, it's not. I'm Russian, but I can't sympathise with mail.ru software practices.

I'm downloading a game. Why the FK it changes my homepage without my consent? Why the hell do I even have to go to some settings? Does World of Warcraft meddle with your homepage when you install it? Does Rift? Does SWTOR? Nope!

Unfortunately, with russian software this bullshit practice was going on for ages, even since the days of pirated copies sold en masse in the shops, where Fargus and 7-Wolf always had their launchers hijack your homepage. Yeah, you had an option to check it off, but it came back in so many ways you often still would get your homepage changed.

PS: Not to mention Mail.ru 's ridiculous practices, both business and in terms of how they handle their games. P2W is a very misused and overused, but they deserve the whole negative meaning of it stuck to their products, because that's what they do. Their games are P2W to the extreme. They wrecked games in order to squeese more cash out of players. No respect goes to them at all.

Could not have said it better.  Tying the game to mail.ru dooms it.
