I see the same people here saying that it's "all good" that have previously hated upon system's that are similar to the LP one like the stamina system in other games, where when you run out of stamina you can't do anything else for the rest of the day. The LP system is the exact same thing, just with a different name.

It's funny to see so many of the people that have moaned about such system's in the past acting like this is a fair one now. Does the different name of the system confuse you, or something? Or are you that blinded with your love for AA?

The difference is that LP is not an issue unless you chose to play the game for free.  FFXIV had a stamina/fatigue system but it was a subscription game.  You had no choice but to pay to play that game and be saddled with the fatigue restriction.  If AA was a pay to play game only and saddled with the same restrictions as F2P are now It would be a huge issue I am sure.  But that is not the case, is it?  It is simply an issue for people who want to freeload.  All you have to do to avoid the LP restrictions in AA is become a patron.  Whose fault is it that you chose to play the game for free and are therefore saddled with an LP restriction?  I think we all know the answer to that question ... yours and yours only.

The question to you is a simple one.  Do you find the game entertaining enough that you are willing to support it by becoming a patron.  If your answer is yes, then you should subscribe and play.  If you do not find it entertaining enough to play, then do not pay, and do not play.  If it will make you, and the rest of F2P advocates happy, let's just call it what it is ... a pay to play game, and be done with it.  Would that make you happy?  Can we move on now?  All of this complaining by people who are getting something for free is really mind boggling.  The entitlement mentality in MMO's is through the roof.  Incredible.

What complete nonsense.  LP is outside the subscription payment.  If you don't purchase LP boosts in the item shop you are LP limited even with a Sub.  That is why a lot of us won't touch this game.  It is what it is, but if you want to play this is the game it is going to cost you more than a subscription....  After trying the game out, there are much better games out there now, why bother with this one?  If I am going to sub to a game, it had better be worth putting my time into it and not have additional charges that are necessary to play the game.  This one does.

But fact, is, once you buy a ship, it's no different whether you are rich or poor, just how well you fight it against the other side.

What? How well you control click in the overview, press f1 and wait? That's all combat is so how is there any skill involved in that at all?

Also your take on eve not being pay to win by the example given that you quoted makes no sense. You could never grind enough isk to fly the most expensive ships every time you undocked for pvp. So, if 2 equal player corps are at war with each other, even numbers and player skill the corp that could afford the most plex with real life money would win.

Nobody can grind isk fast enough in game to loose a t3 every 30mins of pvp, yet you can certainly buy enough plex with real life money to.

Again, it is not the ship, it is the skillset of those you play with.  Rarely are fights single combat, so it most definitely not pressing one key, it is fighting with your mates against the opponents and doing so better than they do.  There are all sorts of strategy to be employed here, including how your ships are fit.  If you think fighting is clicking one button you have no understanding of the game whatsoever!

If you like rock paper scissors, you will love eve. The combat system is 100% rock paper sissors and predetermined before the fight starts. Press f1 and watch as X ship type will always win against Y ship type. To make things even worse than even just having the most simple combat system of any mmo ever made, it is PAY TO WIN. Don't want to earn your own $ in game? just spend 20$ and ccp will let you buy enough isk from another player to never need to actually play the game again.

Now that is absolutely the silliest post I have seen today.  Skill matters big time and how you fit your ship, what friends you bring to the fight. Rarely do you ever see one on one fights, someone always has the numerical advantage which does you no good if you don't have the right mix of ships, player skills and the ability to play together far override what ship you have.

So needless to say there is nothing pay-to-win whatsoever in this game.  Obviously these posters have no clue what the mechanics of a pay-to win game are.  They must feel rather silly now.

All I can say is the awards received show how bad a year this was for games in general and especially MMO's.   This is the first year in quite a few years that my friends, guildmates and I have splintered into different directions, and while not a big deal, we all splintered backwards.  None of us are playing current games, we are all playing games released in previous years; TSW, Guild Wars 1 and 2, Diablo 3, SWTOR, Skyrim, and other single player games.  That spoke volumes to me about where at least we were with games this year.

A sane voice in the crowd.  Could not agree more.  Wow basically has no competition.  I don't play it any more, but I am not playing anything that is new either, I just don't like anything that is new in the last couple years.

Too late, too little...

Agreed.

Also WASD controls for ships should of been implemented years ago.  Now two major space games coming out they will be left behind unless they come up with something really special.

Huh?  Eve is not a flight simulator, if you knew anything about the game you would understand that WASD movement is really not something that is applicable to playing Eve.

As to the changes, most are pretty minor unless you spend a lot of time in wormholes, this is a not a big release that introduces a lot of changes.

*FTFY.

Yep, stay away from this mob folks!

That's gPotato / Mail.ru, right? Allods was a total milking cow which never delivered on its promised features. It did look great but damn, it required you to spend just to finish quests!

Mail.ru owns Allods now and they are doing well at repairing the damage gPotato did. gPotato was owned by Gala Inc at the time of their owning Allods Online.

Please explain because the pay model in Allods is still the exact same model that everyone disliked.

Another clueless developer is asking you to PAY for an alpha release.  I would think twice about that. There lots of games out there NOT in alpha stage, probably more than you can ever attempt playing.

The chances of you throwing money away on this title are quite high.  They are a small outfit, without a lot of experience making MMO's hence the chance that this title will actually make it to release are slim with the promised feature set.  Not even worth bothering to mention that they won't have the time or experience to control the exploiters.

I could list a page full of titles that never made it past alpha stage or actually made it to beta and remain there.  If you are that flush with cash, there are a lot of good charities that could use that cash far more than these people.

Well Trion SHOULD get in trouble if they attempt to advertise this game as FTP.  It is not even close to a FTP model.   This is a free to try, pay to play model.   I have no problem with publishers making money, the game would not exist if they weren't doing so.  I invest in games I like because I want them to continue to be available to play.  If you never invest in a game, you must not like it very much.

As to AA, it is quite obvious the LP system is probably one of the poorer designs we have seen in a MMO.  Every thread has to deal with the angst it has caused.  Pulling LP out of the system though would be extremely difficult and make it very hard to accept new releases from the developer.   The chance of LP being removed is practically nil.

Trion has done a lot of damage to it's reputation with this title, the founders pack price was over the top, but they believe this game will be a success.  We will just have to wait and see.  I will probably pass on this game, it really is missing many sandbox features.  While there is freedom to choose in this game, it is very limited.

I think Trion would be better off just to release the game, more beta testing will just add to the negative publicity they are getting and take that silly FTP label off it, it is nothing close!

Great there is a lot of passion there, the question remains does that translate into good game design?

And for me its worth the monthly sub in tenfold.

12 hours of hand-holding ! ! ? Suddenly I'm not so pumped anymore.

________________________________________________

I hope they rectify this before launch. However, what was playing did look great - even combat was smooth and looks like there may exist an "active dodge" system done right.

________________________________________________

I really want to like like AA - I really do...

________________________________________________

Oh and referring to the quoted text : Archeage just popped up on STEAM as a "Free-To-Play" title and they are very certain they're correct. So whats this talk about monthly fee?

You can play for free, or pay a monthly sub. F2P gets lesser benefits while subscription has all the bells and whistles.

That is the problem.  Even with a subscription, there are mandatory purchases needed in the item shop, especially if you are going deep into crafting.

Anyone on this thread trying to convince others that this is not the typical Asian game, we are all laughing at you because that is exactly what it is.  Trion has lessoned the item shop somewhat, but it still is way over the top, especially when it comes to crafting.

Enjoy the game for what it is, just don't try to tell us it is not what it is. .

I got to check out the game over the weekend.  It was more fun than I expected, and thought it would be a game I'd like to support.  But that statement right there is exactly why I won't be spending any money on the game.  Make me want to spend money.  Don't make me feel like I have to.

Kinda the same with subscriptions.  If I'm going to pay a subscription, I want everything.  I don't want to pay a sub AND still need to buy things from the cash shop.  You want me to pay $10-15 a month and I still have to pay $5-10 for more bag space?  GFYS!

Exactly!

I do agree that the f2p model that Rift uses would be a far better comparison.  I doubt that many people on this board play LOL because of the caustic environment.  I subbed to Rift, but I would not waste any money on a sub to AA.

As to LOL, they get far more volume with a game design like LOL, than you would ever get with a MMO, hence they can actually charge far less and still bring in plenty of money.   Comparing two very unlike products does not a good comparison make.  Hence not a very good article.

Trion's cash grab in AA will doom the game to a limited audience.

When you have to put 3 cryptic games on the list for best user content, you are basically saying the industry has not moved in that direction.  I just do not like their games at all and their content generators really don't add to any of their games very much at all.

Then what has SOE been known for content?Linear yellow marker questing,i expect more the same,so really what importance does CLASS have if just running yellow markers 90% of the time. Now i realize that they ALSO create dungeons to which i think most of us have more fun doing than the linear questing, probably ONLY because we know the loot is always better. If you do the linear questing, then it becomes more a search for the FASTEST killing machine to get through all those go kill 10 rat quests.Linear questing removes ANY and ALL COOL from a class because we all know that in reality ANY class and pretty much sleep walking can complete those quests.

The post proves the ignorance of some people that post on this websight. They are doing the complete opposite of what is being said in the quote here. They have said since the last SOE live that that there will be no quest hubs with npcs standing around with yellow markers above their heads. Questing will be dynamic with storybricks, which was shown in early alpha videos of Storybricks before they got pick up by SOE that it can be done. EQN is a sandbox mmorpg, linear questing is not what going to be in the game.

Sandbox?  Not hardly, just another themepark.  Sandbox games do not have classes, they are skill based and since they have limited skills, it is not even close to a sandbox.  A sandbox is all about freedom to choose your characters skillsets, there is very little of that here.  The ignorance surrounding the word "sandbox" is amazing.

I am still unable to see how this could be a new home for SWG fans, as Mr Smedley said it would be.

I guess that depends on what you took away from SWG.  But let´s break it down as far as i understand it. (based on the info we have)

* Complex crafting that is vital to your progress (just like SWG)

* Player driven economy (just like SWG)

* Sandbox gameplay, be who you want to be. (Just like SWG)

* Class-less system (Just like SWG)

* Build your own home/base/maybe even city (just like SWG)

So there you go... That is how he claimed it woudl be a home for SWG vet´s. Not a unrealistic claim to make based on that info and what the SWG vet´s have said over the years.

Seriously, it is a Zombie game!  How much can you do with that?  As to crafting, initial information shows it would not even hold a candle to what was available in SWG.   The entire problem with the game is picking the Zombie theme which completely makes it a laughing stock.   Like Smed had a huge brainfart and said lets make our new sandbox about Zombies to take advantage of the Zombie rage.

You are in for a huge surprise if you think this is anything close to the freedom SWG had.  All the people who understood the word "Sandbox" are long gone at SOE.  It is pretty obvious from the information released on the game so far they do not have a clue.

This game had so much potential.Even though it had a shocking release I stuck with the game for 2 years and loved every bit of it.The crafting was by far the best I have seen in any mmo. Also classes, races were excellent. If only it was done right it would have lasted another few years.Sadly not to be though.I very much doubt we will ever see an mmo with this much depth again.Unless Pantheon manages to get released, which I doubt.

Have you ever crafted in any MMO?  SWG maybe?  UO?  Eve?  I could go on, but Vanguard's crafting was at best mediocre since SOE never investing any time in the game.

The game was mediocre, yes it had possibilities, but we all know that once SOE bought it, it was effectively history.  They had no intention of ever fixing or improving it beyond fixing the most obvious bugs.

Sorry this game appears outright stupid.  Seriously, having a Dungeon master placing NPC's is not challenging.   While it might appear to work, it won't.

EA has seriously destroyed Bioware.  Anything coming out of that shop lately has been crap and this seems to follow that trend.

I have stopped buying anything with the EA label on it, they have not had a decent game in eons.

Smedley has been so out of touch with the genre many of us were not surprised when he tried to make the comparison even though they have nothing in common.

Best to just ignore him rather than trying to fathom his off the wall comments.

Laughs, it is PW, they don't have a non pay to win game in existence.  Some are worse than others.  I have not played this game, I just avoid anything with the PW moniker on it, but I would be absolutely shocked if it didn't.  In many of their games it usually pops up at end game if not before.

1. I chose WoW over EQ2 for two reasons: 1. Because I did not want to buy a new PC 2. Because WoW was presented as a more casual game. MMOs had already a very bad reputation as highly addictive and time consuming. That WoW becomes exactly like this as soon as one reaches endgame was a huge disappointment for me.

2. Less time consuming does not mean easier. When will MMO-players start do understand the difference?

3. You missed my point! I said the most important factor was the mindset of the players. There were a lot of casual players with no MMO or even video game experience at all. And to me this was the best thing ever in WoW. Because they just played WoW like any other normal game. You know? Just having fun with others.

I started with EQ2 and then moved to Wow.  It took SOE almost a year to get EQ2 playable, it was that buggy at release.  I personally do not see any difference in difficulty between the two either.  You have to remember that Wow was much more challenging at release than it is now.

I thought the pvp at Taren Mill was rather lame.  Grave yards were too close and people getting right back into the fray was rather absurd.  I really have not seen very much good pvp since UO.

Hope it is a lot better than VI because the last one was pretty bad.
