Yeah, that part really bothers me. People slam other companies' cash shops for selling stuff which could be considered marginally pay to win, such as XP boosters, but Chris Roberts could charge $1000 for a ship in a game which doesn't even exist yet and would take months or even years to buy with in-game currency (if at all), and almost nobody bats an eyelash. Quite the opposite in fact, they rabidly defend what he's doing.

Given the mercurial nature of MMO players, a developer has to be absolutely bonkers to want to create an MMO these days. Better to stick to single player games or MOBAs, or lobby games.

As much as I like to hate on H1Z1 I agree with this 100%

I also think its unfair that some review sites like Polygon ran a review of H1Z1 as if its a released game when not only is it Early Access but it was in there for only a month before they decided to write a review.

Seriously, they are charging for it, no matter what they call it's status it is released!  If you can't grasp that fact, you are buying into their nonsense.

As to the game, it is just another zombie shooter that really does nothing to differentiate itself from the rest of the genre.

How is the story though? You know... The thing that makes or breaks an RPG for some people? I mean come on, how is that not even weighed into the rating at all?

Exactly how can you review an RPG without even rating the story?  You have to wonder if the reviewer even grasps what an RPG is  If there is no story it is not much of an RPG.

Eat bloodborne microsoft/bioware, wtf is the point of early dlc on pc and xbox one? what am i going to go and buy an xbox one or the game on my pc so i can play 30 days early? ******* joke this is, it serves to purpose other than to p people off.

Oh and i like how they say, other platforms to follow... yea OTHER OTHER platFORM to follow.

I'm sure people who were/are into Destiny are saying the same thing to Activision. It's not in any way, shape or form Bioware's fault. EA owns Bioware, EA made a deal with MS for overall exclusivity for DLC on most f their titles this gen, it is what it is. Instead of complaining about this one specific instance that you don't like, you should be mad at this "paid exclusivity" garbage in general.

I have destiny on PS4 and can say the exclusive strikes are utterly crap and boring and short, and the Exclusive weapons, i've never seen drop or had one.

An expansion for DAI is a much bigger deal and should never have happened in a RPG from bioware. But the whole lies about tomb raider exclusive to XB1 only crap they came out with just showed me how pathetic microsoft are, they know their new console is a weak joke and they're grabbing what they can before they go down this gen.

I mean the GPU in the XB1... shameful to say the least with all the xbox fanboys shouting, BUT BUT BUT DX 12 DX 12 DX 12 THE CLOUD OMG ESRAM"

Well if you had been a smart person and bought it for the PC......

If they really wanted to give this game a chance, they would eliminate all the RNG crap in the item shop.  As long as it is there, the game is a casino first.

The execs at Trion should write a book on "How to fail at making a video game".

It is an absolute crime to degrade what is still a decent MMORPG with a trashy mobile add on.

I swear more and more studio's are ruining their products in a hunt for more cash.  Horrible decisions.

MMOs are revenue streams for the companies that develop them and they cease to exist when they aren't profitable; whether it's a decent MMORPG or not is irrelevant.  Nobody is talking about a trashy mobile "add on", the mobile version will be the full version of FFXI (with additions) and the smartphone app is a completely different game (again not an add on).  I think there are other things SE could have done to make FFXI relevant and profitable again but keeping it running in the same space and in competition with their own other subscription based MMOs isn't sound business.  The PC space is flooded with MMOs and the mobile market is growing much faster.

A full version,?  Anything they do for mobile will be an extremely limited version of the client.  Like I said, trashing what is still a good game.  I have some friends that still play it because it is still better than XIV.

It's so humorous and sad that you think an MMO trapped around the design specs of the PS2 + hard drive would be held back by a current-day mobile device... It's almost adorable.

The Iphone 5 is much, much more than a match for the ps2's hardware. A tablet so so so much more in comparison. If you for a second honestly think that a PS2 can outperform any current day smart phone or tablet... Well, thank god you aren't writing for the tech industry, because I'd feel bad for the two or three people who might take you seriously in it.

Moving FF11 to the mobile market is smart for Square. The mobile market is a very, very powerful thing in Japan, and making the game portable would be quite the boon for it. You play to the market, and its not like they are canning the original game... Unless you are still playing on a PS2. At which point, that's your fault not theirs.

First off, FFIX at last look, took up 16gb of storage on the PC, good luck putting that on most tablets let alone <laughs> any phone.    Now I will agree that since NEXXON is getting a hold of it, we can expect a much cheaper with a lot less content than the original game so it will probably be fine for the respective audience.  They are really going to have to dumb down the controls immensely just to come close what the original game had.

So what we will end up with is a very different game that looks nothing like the original so it can fit on tablets and phones.

Just a thrown together piece of crap that is just waiting for some sucker to toss some money at it.

The game is still in closed beta and they release new stuff for the cash shop. This genre has really gone to *peep*

You do realize that this is a moba right? Seriously all this forum do is cry cry cry and cry again. What the f* is wrong with you all?

You do realize that you have to lay out $40 to participate, not like it is a normal MOBA.  That is a big difference as far as I can see, you should never have to buy things in a beta.  What is wrong with you?

LMAO like Galaga... bad troll

You have obviously never played Galaza, great arcade game, but when it comes to combat in a game in this century, not so much.

What do you need a mount in a MOBA for?

Last time I checked, XI took up almost 15 gb of space, try to fit something like that on many tablets....
There have been some very good rpgs coming out in the last year or so and more good ones on the way.  Maybe we will get lucky and have a MMO made by one of these studios.

Love all these anti-F2P people coming on here and pointing out that this one game is like this while completely ignoring Rift's billing model. way to go for irony there! LOL

Anyway with that being said, this is what happens actually when people allow their games to have a billing model that is part of progression, in which progression is directly tied to real cash money. Ironically people who are posting about being anti F2P are the same people who support things like STO's new billing model and GW2 TP centric model or even the RMTAH in Diablo III early days. If you supported those models you are part of the problem, not the people who advocate for a LOTRO/Rift style billing model because the F2P isn't the problem, the problem is when these companies get greedy in any billing model and wnat you to pay to progress your character.

It was not just the way the game was billed that was the issue.  It was the way they let the bots control the game, that and the cheaters with their speed and teleporting cheats.  You could not buy land because as soon as some freed up the bots bought it,  there were big areas with more bots than players.  Then you were constantly bombarded with the spam messages.

This was not new to f2p games.  And it was quite evident in Beta there were huge issues here.  Trion just released it as is.  As far as many of us are concerned, we won't ever touch a Trion game again.  They killed whatever good karma they had with Rift by their actions with this game.   The Trion studio is now one of the worst ones out there.

Getting people that were burned by their $150 early investment to come back is ludicrous.

About the only thing a UTube game video is good for is if you want some pointers on gameplay.  Beyond that I just don't see a use for it.
Doubt it, especially at the price they are charging for it.  I would have tried it for free, but $40, forget it since all the other MOBA's are free to try.  The only way a MOBA is a cash cow is if you have a huge audience and it must be free to at least try for that.

While I think that NOW Trion is making amends and handling things better, I just cant understand how so many bad decisions can be made in such a short amount of time for one game.  There have been 5 or 6 major blowouts over poor decisions in only 6 months.  I seriously question Mr. Hartmans leadership of the company.

I agree they had many blow out, but some poor decisions was on them, other was on the player expecting more then what the game was and is. Like land how many complain I heard about this as the game was limit amount of land long be for the game came out over sea, even befor came to NA was told and told again land was limited, but most the complain was I pay this I should get land.

You only knew there would be a lack of land if you went out of your way to do some research.  And frankly, lots of MMO players don't do that (nor should they have to, IMHO. If a game is forcing people to do a ton of out of game research, that game did something wrong, I think).  Really, there hasn't been an MMO with housing on LIMITED space since... Star Wars Galaxies?

Trion's marketting department and the game's website and anything remotely official with Archeage never mentioned a strict lack of land.  It just said "Be a patron!  Own land!"  So you can at least partially blame Trion('s marketting) for THAT expectation.

Me personally, I think that "limited land" is a stupid decision even from a BUSINESS perspective.  Considering how much a part of the game housing can be if you design your game right, and how much MONEY you can make from monetizing some aspects of housing, and how many PLAYERS you can get committed to your game because they're in love with their house, why on earth would you as a business LIMIT the amount of players that can own houses?  That's like PURPOSEFULLY limitting your customer base and revenue stream, and that's stupid.  Well, far as I can tell, at least.  There are several potential reasons why AA's success in terms of player base was "limited" in various regions (to say the least) so it's hard to pin down exactly which ones were truly factors, sometimes.

It was not just the limited land issue, it was Trion letting the bots control the land purchases.  I don't call this game ArchAge, I call it the "Land of the Cheaters" a far more apt title.  Absolutely inexcusable that they were not prepared for this issue as many prior f2p games have experience similar issues and why many of us are done with Trion forever.

It is an absolute crime to degrade what is still a decent MMORPG with a trashy mobile add on.

I swear more and more studio's are ruining their products in a hunt for more cash.  Horrible decisions.

Just like D&D had major problems with moving their ruleset to computers, the same has happened with Games Workshop.

To make such games playable there has to be major adjustments to the rules and both companies have been very resistant to such.  Hence major headaches for developers.

You need to assign this writer to another site.  Talk about being clueless, the entire article is beyond ridiculous.  Granted game selection is a matter of choice, BUT:

NO SANE person plays a MMO on a console.  Hear that David?

To top it off you have The Division as the top MMO?  That gets a -10 for the entire silly article.  Then to compound your gross errors in judgement you put none of the indie games on the list.

The writing on this site is going downhill fast.  A really sad state of affairs.

I disagree. Many people play FF XIV on console. Many play DCUO on console.

With the cross of Windows 10/XBox One there may soon be little difference between the two (both PS4 and XBox One are built on PC Hardware). There is also the upcoming Steam Machine platform, which may also bring some more MMO's to the console market.

Easy way to prove my point.  I have Dragon Age Inquisition on both Xbox One and PC.  The game play is night and day better on the PC verses the Xbox.  I don't dispute that many people play these games on console, but they just do not know what they are missing.  These studios that make console only games are just clueless children.
