Now..your opinion may be I'm full of shit. That is also neither fact nor fiction.  Just another opinion. You may question the mathematical elements of my opinion but again..the opinion itself...as a whole...is neither right nor wrong just because someone agrees or disagrees with said opinion. All this is , as you may have already guessed, my opinion.

2+2=7 is not an opinion since the answer is a known fact and if you think that qualifies as a good argument on opinions and facts.. i dunno what to say about that... it's like saying it's my opinion the earth is flat... that's not an opinion that's just being a moron

swtor is heavily instanced/phased... fact

swtor has linear planet design and questing.... fact

swtor gives only a couple of actual skills though talents..... fact

swtor is your basic tab target MMO combat minus autoattack... fact

swtor does not have 200 hours of unique content per class.... fact

swtor dialogue choices do not have major impacts in your overall story and the world around.... fact

Those are facts according to you. Some i may agree or disagree with in varying degress. I like SWTOR despite your "facts"...Just like the math in my example "opinion" was factually inaccurate.....the facts in your statement have nothing to do with opinion except in forming your own opinion based on your own bias or perceptions of experience. They are even subconsciously  influenced by past likes/dislikes or bias.. Like i was implying....anything can be an opinion ...even the blatantly false or mathematically disproven. Facts have nothing to do with it. Its merely what someone believes no matter how insubstantiated it may seem to someone else.

in your logic nothing is fact then if EVERYTHING can be seen as an opinion..

Not true. An opinion and fact are exclusive. Only if one is disingenuine and states things as opinion when he really doesn't hold that particular opinion. That's just lying . I did a similar thing as an extreme example..only to distinguish opinion from facts and not to support any argument I may have as to whether SWTOR is good or not.At least that was my intent .LOL..LOL .Lol. I guess I could have just said " I like SWTOR because I find it not too instanced and enjoy the PVP". These elements ...like the math example...may not be true or add up for you..but they are still my opinion. ..I am merely babbling and ranting on the term "opinion" itself. I'll stop now since..as far as this thread is concerned , I've already stated I like the game regardless. The great thing is...after i play some more...I may end up hating the game. Opinions are not set in stone.

What story line were you playing? I do not remember any real twists to the plot as a Jedi Knight. It was pretty cliche and the dialogue was cringe inducing in it's awefullness, especially the Kira Carsen dialogue.

" I found myself grouping and i rarely group in games and darn I WAS ENJOYING IT. "

Realy, you have played that many MMOs for that long and you weren't big into grouping?

" a similar but better combat system than Wow. "

Realy..How so? Could you explain what you mean by "Better"?

"The last couple of weeks I have tried other Mmo's and it was not the same , ""

"Yes for the first time in my life I am not playing an mmo for one or two months and than switching to another. "

which is it?  I thought you were..."Enjoying it"?

I am glad you are liking the game BUT I shall not alow you to misrepresent your product

How is he misrepresenting the product by telling us he likes the game?

So...do you think Bioware has planted agents on their own forum to counter all resistance?

1) Yes they are manipulative and Mussolini-esque in their fascist controls and designs upon their own players and unsubscribers. Pure Evil (50 Dark Side Points)

2) Huh?

3) Are you so delirious as to think they need to do such a thing. Listen I'm going to give you a number to a good shrink. He's  really   great with excellent professional mannerisms and your visits would be purely confidential . Look..I just want to do what's right. Do you have a pen and paper handy?. (150 Light Side Points)

Never watched star trek in my life; will I like this game?

Other then not getting a kick from the series/movie references you might enjoy it more having never seen much of the Star Trek stuff.

I have been enjoying SWTOR ( and RIFT and a few other F2P games off and on) but recently downloaded this because I get a kick out of the starship battles. It's like nautical style broadsiding fun in space.lol.

I got married earlier to an irl girl...omg, right?  We've been playing games together forever since DAoC, where we met.  Her, a sexy little Kobold, and I, a big fat Troll, were unofficially married in that game as well.  In FFXI, we got married by a GM (better than Rift's instanced versions).  Now in Rift, we got married again, and not even an hour later she was asking me to run her through a dungeon a couple of times on an alt...We didn't even have our honeymoon yet.  I had Porticulum (I still can't spell that thing right lol) tickest purchased to Ember Isle, where we'd go hang out on the beach and drink some Fauster's Ale (Mathosian for Ale lol), but she had other plans...I guess that's how marriage works lol.  I hope she doesn't read this, I might have to "naked" duel her while she's in full armor again :(

(mod edit)

Perhaps you can't read well or it is merely too difficult with your head up your arse but he did , in fact, preface his post with the fact that he is really married and plays mmos with his wife. Maybe you just missed it there...IN THE FIRST FUCKING LINE.

The rest of your post is, of course, your opinion to which you are entitled and to which I partially agree.

Or the developers of FT fell for that stupid "Founders" title icnentive to resub and put it off development for another 30 days.

There was not one single screenshot of FT, so I'm not upset.

I do want to play a sandbox. However, "sandbox" doesn't always mean Darkfall or Mortal Online. I want to play a Sandpark.

I saw some rough sketches on notebook paper. It was college ruled so i was really hopeful. :)

You mean to tell me.....that I spent all that time hanging with you throughout Telara....all the bloodshed together kicking Defiant arse and you go and get married without sending me an invite? A frakking post even? Fine. Have fun running those dungeons with........her.

Rifts can't close without your Bros!!!!! Remember that!!!!

with the MMO market as large as it is today and with how long its been since the last AAA title and not to mention the super team of bioware + star wars I can't see how anyone would think this game wouldn't sell well off the get go.. does it make it a good game? or a rousing success? i don't think so if it can maintain 1 mill+ subs over the course of a year i'd say its a sure fire hit but i highly doubt it will keep anywhere close to that in a years time.

You don't think The Old Republic will keep close to 1 million subscribers? I can't even begin to imagine how you came to that conclusion.

I predict that after a year The Old Republic will have 1million to 2million active subscribers, easy.

I don't know how people are preicting lower than 1million? Let alone you predicting "anywhere close" to 1million.

With patches, more advertising, free trials and cheaper boxes this game will continue to thrieve for the next year atleast easily.

Anything could happen..but I see this as a very probable future for SWTOR as well. Especially as they do additional fixes...patches..polish and add more content...making it attractive to more people and hopefully drawing back some disgruntled defectors.lol.

and by then several new AAA mmo's will be released or just about to be released... like wow before it SWTOR came out at a prestine time when no other MMOs had been released recently. Only Rift was released in the same year and that was way back in March. Not to mention it was released right near christmas. You really think both these things are coincidence? I bet you the developers would of prefered to polish the game and work on a summer 2012 release but with everything in the works for then I'm sure the corporate guys pushed for the christmas 2011 release.. it's all about the money..

No doubt that is why they released...and yes..rushed the game for a December release. I still think it was fairly smooth from my experiences (compared to many other mmo releases except RIFT). I also realize its bugs and failures but enjoy the game none-the -less. There is definitely competition heading our way (and will be sampling those as well..Wildstar oddly intrigues me tho I usually dislike the degree of stylization it seems to incorporate..and Archage if we ever see that in the west)....but I still think SWTOR can pull-off a great playerbase as they continue to refine their rushed product. I really can't blame bioware too much and hatelessly blame EA mostly for the too-early release. I also blame the many fans screaming for a release date so they could get their grubby mitts on a copy...myself included..lol.

let the hardcore PVP leave when will people get it PVP games are a niche accept it when you cater to PVP you end up with low sub numbers and before any of you say wow shut it wow is a PVE MMO with PVP more as something to do when raids are locked out.   If you count wow as a PVE game whats the highest sub p2p PVP game ?   Any over a mil sub in the west ?

Cater to PVP you might as well close your game.

GW1 had a strong PVP focus and over a million players

Games like WAR had big numbers at launch, there is a market for better PVP, unfortunatley most of the PVP games are buggy as hell

War flopped HARD.  The market for a big time MMO with 2-3 mil subs doesnt exist for a PVP game period.

There is only one mmo that has 2-3 million subs so your statement is quite stupid really.

No its not that is what any company that wants to invest 200 mil into a game is aiming at taking subs from WOW and retaining them.  Do you think a PVP game would do that ?  No it wouldnt.   This is a business I'm not going to invest 200 mil   on a game that only attracts a small % of the market.

well wow wouldn't have the numbers it has today without the pvp aspect to it. A purely pve mmo will never reach 2-3 million subs..I think you under estimate the amount of pvp'ers that are out there. look at bizzards annual tournaments they're all about competitive pvp.

Now..I do not have stats.....but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of WOW's 4 million or so western subs are not paid by PvP enthusiasts.

I went to the movies the other day and someone half an aisle over smelled like urine. A few seats back someone had a huge bucket of popcorn, but didnt know it was possible to chew with their mouth closed.

My friend left the movie theater talking about these annoying things, while I was happy to have seen a good movie.

Focus on the bad and you'll miss the good.

What a load of shit.

You must be that friend he was talking about.

I still enjoy the game for what it is. I jump around from Empire to Republic alternating classes and specialties. I choose Marauder on Empire side and Guardian on Republic side for example to avoid playing essentially the same specialty. I enjoy the PvP even though admittedly have yet to do Ilum. Highest level is 43 on main character and just taking my time. Don't play every day so that helps. Like most games I'll likely stop at some point but don't see it happening any time soon.

Since when were instanced PvP battlegrounds faction imbalanced. It is the open world RvR two faction system that are usually imbalanced and to my knowledge that barely exists in Rift.

What is imbalanced is the number of available players. One side has more than another, so folks end up sitting around waiting to fight.  This allows Rift to take the side with overflow of players and put them into a 3rd neutral faction just to give  people a chance to fight, even if its against members of their own faction.

Exactly.,,besides ..I don't know how many times I've been asked to fight by all those duelling fools on Defiant side. Now they can leave me alone and go kill their own kin  in warzones.

I don' t think it breaks immersion at all. There are all shades to life. Why not so in  virtual life? Fantasy MMOs (and all MMOs) don't have to be so black and white all the time. Some of the best times I've had was when I couldn't find a group and stumble across the enemy...only to develop a silent bond of sorts as we help each other with nearby quests. Alternating back and forth until we were both finished then bidding each other a fond farewell. Kinda like that scene in "Warhorse". If you've seen the movie... you'll know to what i am referring.

Don't get me wrong by my prior posts. Off-peak updates or something that could stream behind the scenes would be great. It's just that most mmo's I've played have done this type of updates..regularly scheduled or other wise. Or at least it seems that way to me. Some players off-peak is always someone elses peak times. Speaking on an indivuduals schedule and not the "normal" peak/off-peak defined by conventional stats.

So if tonight Bioware announce that the game will be down 7 days in February from  noon CST to midnight CST that will be OK because 'they announced it in advance'? How about 14 days? Still Ok. What about 28?

There are better techs available - BigWorld is another that springs to mind. And failing that simply doing the minimum that other companies do these days would be an improvement.

And if I said "yes"... would you increase the downtime scenario to 6 months.... or a year ? Come on. An announcement for maintenance tomorrow and then some 3-4 days later is reasonable. Saying your down for a month is unreasonable..much like your example or rebuttal to my post.

I know downtime sucks but didn't they announce both Saturdays and Todays downtime a good deal ahead of time?

I'll accept that it is a failure....or no longer a viable gaming option..when I can't see anyone playing or can't complete groups quests at all...on my server. When the game is no longer entertaining me..then I will accept it's demise in MY gaming world because my fun is all I give a shit about.

Yes, I've heard this drivvle before with every failed WoW clone.

And even if you think SWTOR is fun, there are things about SWTOR that make it FACUTALLY bad. Like the fact that AA had to be patch in AFTER release.

The fact that kill swapping is legal

The fact that Bioware didn't have the foresight to implement high res textures in the final release

The fact that most quests are shared between classes

The fact that the UI can't customized

The fact that there are still numerous bugs

The fact that all the above is true DESPITE the fact that Bioware was given hundreds of millions of dollars and 7 years.

Oh and even one of the analysts sticking up for SWTOR said they projected 800k subs while at the same time projecting 3 million copies sold by the end of march.

Thats less than a 30% retention rate. Sleep well

Love how someone liking a game is "drivvle"...when that is..in fact...all someone should look for in a game. I wont counter point any further as all your points have also been spewn out on every SWTOR forum there is by people who still expect an MMO to defy the nature of it's construction and release as a perfect..bug free masterpiece that should satisfy all..

just a fyi.... For  any of your future posts on any forums you peruse ....the word is "drivel"

When  most people use the term "retention" it means the majority of customers do not cancel. You attempt to retain as many old customers while appealing to new/potential customers. This seems to be the case as of right now for SWTOR. Sure...keeping all of your subscribers would be great but unheard of for an MMO.  Your post is really not a situation in which "BAAAAHAHAHAHHAHA" seems to apply.

What?... WHAT?

Have you been looking at the forums recently? People are already calling for server merges. If this game had a high retention rate than server activity would have risen or AT THE VERY LEAST evened out since the new people who compensate for the old people leaving.

But we don't see that. What we see is an average of 10-20% less server activity every week.

How far down do the server activity graphs have to sink before you accept that Bioware grand experiment is a failure?
