Yea that was a great planet. I also enjoyed Hoth. Especially the ship graveyard.

It was the only planet that had good world PVP because of the Balloon ride, it's actually something every one wants and will fight over. Also because of the nature of how you get it, you just get massive long PVP fights trying to stop people from getting there.

If the whole game was like Tatooine the game would be amazing, the rest of it was just dull and linear. They need to get rid of fleet stations, they ruin the game and turn it into Phantasy Star Online. Put people in the frigging cities in the world instead...

For PVP focus, I can understand why huge open areas would work best. As a PVE gamer those type of areas suck.

 

I guess it depends on why you play games.

 

I couldn't stand the linear planets at the start, especially that Nar Shaddaa one because it was just so enclosed and linear and didn't feel like a citry at all. The worst thing I found about it as well is every district was meant to be something different and yet it all looked the same.

Nar Shadda does suffer from tunnel vision.....I have a couple alts there now to attest to it.

 

Zones like Alderaan remind me of EQ.....on steroids. The "sandboxy" thing of EQ I miss the most was the day/night causing certain MOBs to be available, or NPCs to follow patterns. That is one thing I wish they had put in.....the lay out of these huge ass zones is perfect though from my perspective.

Nobody should try to block an addition to an MMO. If an MMO does not offer as many aspects as possible, it becomes a low population game. Limited game = limited playerbase. SWTOR already has the story/leveling, it needs everything else. Everything....so yeah, it ALREADY is fubar and the only way to un-fu it is to add the massive amount of gameplay it does NOT have.

Yes people should try to block additions that dont fit the game. It is no different than me going into The Repopulation or EVE forums and demanding they change their games to be PVE focus. They werent made to be that.

 

Putting NPCs on timed patterns, various mini games in casinos, and stuff like that does indeed fit in. Changing the loot system, or destroying the worlds to make parking lots doesnt.

I would say true old school was those of us that actually played Pong in the 70s.  Going on 44, I say  you are a young pup.

 

I enjoy gaming more now than when I was a kid. Which is why I dont understand the constant bitching over the genre. Pick a game n enjoy yourself. If there arent 5 or 10 titles across the different styles that you enjoy, you really arent a "gamer" IMO. It reads more to me along the lines of a one hit wonder.

Hell OP, the Sony All Access Pass is what the game needs if it wants to have no doubts it makes 8 yrs.

 

If it can prop up SWGs tired ass sub numbers, it can for any game.

 

Ents have no place in this game. The same for housing....we got our ships.

 

More combat classes I am on board with, but stuff like that would have to be for paid content cause the work would be huge. The majority of your other suggestions is about PVP....PVE subs are at like 2 to 1 over PVP, and perhaps a slight bit more. You start throwing all the money to the PVP side, and you are gonna see upset campers on the PVE side.

 

Ilum is the PVP planet. BW needs to fix it.

 

This game isnt a sandbox, and it would be a NGE to try to make it one with your suggestions. I understand that stuff appeals to ya, but it doesnt fit in with what we have IMO.

People enjoy different aspects when it comes to gaming. Folks are always complaining around here that they want something different, yet when a game is different, it becomes a case of "well it wasnt my kind of different".

 No, because many like me that are enjoying it don't touch cash shop games. I prefer a sub with all the options a game has to offer over a game that nickel and dimes me for every thing.The cheapskates will just have to deal with the fact that sub based games aren't going anywhere.

No cash shop is mentioned there. B2P doesnt need to include cash shop. GW1 didnt have one for a long time, and even now, i think its just vanity junk (didnt play it for fer years now though...).

GW2 is definitely P2W in the cash shop. EVE is as well with their trading of PLEX.

 

I would prefer not to deal with that shit. As a matter of fact I wont.

 

I had no interest in playing another MMO. Would have much prefered  TOR to be SP. It wasnt made that way, and unless it gets down under 700 or 800k, it would seem silly to even entertain the F2P approach. Those arent WoW numbers, but they are "easily put your kids through college" numbers.

Bought FFXIV for a fiver from Amazon because, y'know, why not, and have to say I am actually suprised.

 

FFXIV is a charming immersive game that once you become friends with can very much draw you in. I can easily see me playing this for a while.

 

Saying that, I do get why others have been put off... it has issues, even now, that are NOT newbie friendly. It requires learning, note taking, and, above all, it requires the player to adapt to how FFXIV does things (both in systems and pace). Most are not willing or able to adapt, we know this. It is not suprising that they were turned off this game. I get it.

 

Saying that, after I made a small mental switch, stopped expecting it to be EQ2 or whatever and started accepting it for what the game is (and not demanding it be what I say it should be) it started to grow on me...

 

I am not saying it's enough to put me off GW2 or anything, but... yeah, FFXIV. I kinda like you. Give it time and who knows? :)

I will never understand why folks say "there are no games I enjoy". If there is not a damn game you enjoy, then how do you call yourself a gamer?

 

Glad to see you found a place in FF. I never played the MMOs, but I started the IP with FF 13....hated it. Then I grabbed the kid FF 13-2, and I ended up being the one that liked it. SE makes some damn fine looking games, and when they want, the game play to match. I think my fav so far was The Last Remnant.

 

Hopefully this MMO can keep the gamers happy for a long time to come. :)

Any MMO that doesn't require the help of other players to level up are not MMOs, they are just single player  games masked as MMORPGs.

MMORPGs (bar few exceptions) died in 2004

The games before it (possibly except FFIX) did not require the help of others to level up.  I guess there never has been an MMO than.

It is obvious you never played anything made before WoW, otherwise your statement doesn't make any sense.

There was no way you could just solo a pre-WoW MMO without interacting with the community.

In fact the need to group with people is the benchmark I use to determine if I like a new MMO or if it will be successful.

So far I ve got all my forecasts right, I predicted WAR, SWTOR, DC Universe, Champions Online, STO, Aion being a huge disappointment (compared to the hype)

Next flop will be TSW so mark my word for future reference.

All those games are "one month wonders", fun until there is enough solo content, after the content dries up, so the subscriptions.

That's because those games are not geared towards building a player community, so once the content runs out, the player becomes totally unattached to the game.

Necros, druids, Wizards, Shammys, and some enchanters from EQ say hi. As good as they could solo, they didnt hold a candle to the bards that were train kiting Halls of Honor.

I wonder how much content they give in this expansion? I saw the 70 dollar version listed, and it appeared to have some nice bonuses.

 

That said, 70 bucks is a lot of money for an expansion. I guess it is one of the evils of F2P....they need to make money as a business.

 

I bought LoTRO at launch, and despite carrying my sub a yr, I never made it past lvl 5. I always meant to go back, and at least get some playtime in, yet it never happened.

 

LoTRO used to be a sweet looking game, but alas it launched when I was aleady burnt out on MMOs. From the responses over the yrs, I would think I missed out on a good game. I hope those playing enjoy the new content :)

The "dont talk about other games on our forums" I can totally understand. If you wanna talk about those games, do it on someone else's bandwidth. The MMO space is a dog eat dog arena. You sure dont want your customers thinking about other ventures. That would akin to stepping on your own tallywacker....which it sounds like they did anyways pertaining to expansion.

That is the type of stuff you want to see in a cash shop....at least I would. Dyes have no effect on a game, although putting lotion on the skin keeps ya from getting the hose again.

For the folks wanting it as fast as Korea....remember you get once chance for a first impression. Launching later will give Song a chance to add in more/tune what is there. That could make a huge difference when coming to NA/EU. The Tera folks seem to be having a good time, and from what I can tell, that game benefited by polish time.

TOR isnt going anywhere much to the chagrin of those that have camped this forum for months now. BW started off looking like they knocked it out of the park, but with so many attempts by them to create issues ala the Detroit Tigers, it is looking more like a ground rule double.

 

That said, it is still standing tall over any MMO sandbox, which in comparison is playing Tee ball. The only thing close is EVE, which is still minor league. Without their uncle keeping them there(plex sales), they would be fighting the tee ballers for time in right field.

 

For specific questions.....

1. I would guess sometime around NGE talks were getting started.

2. I would guess they needed to recoup some money. Custom UI, and a few other things were noticably absent.

3. LA gets like 30 or 35% after dev costs recouped is what I have seen.

4. Reasonable estimates are in the 150 to 200M range. A certain poster would have ya believe 500M.

5. The 150 to 200M was for total costs involved.

6. Took another position.

7. Somewhere around 2.4M sold thus far....DD, box, and CE.

8. The first we heard was 1.7M. Then 1.3M. I would think 1M or maybe a bit less. The 300k talk is dreams.

9. Games like Madden are a first priority to EA....quick turn arounds for big money. As long as the numbers stay good, they will kick out more content. If they get to a level EA doesnt like, they go FTP, and create more content to sell in shops. Either way TOR isnt going anywhere for the forseeable future.

 SWG had problems, they needed some of the stuff that was broken fixed, buffs/skills needed some balancing, and more content that goes with the original design made.  UO had a lot of dungeons and things to do, that were open/free formed...They needed to commit to doing those things, and keeping with the plan, but improving it....They could of done that, with the money spent on the CU/NGE, but LA had the final say on things, that is where the problem lies...  If you hook your wagon to a IP and give them final say, it often doesn't work out well......I like to say it is like the NFL owner that thinks he is the GM/Coach, it usually doesn't work out well for you (Redskins).

 

TOR better hope they didn't give LA as much control as they had with SWG, like a studio or not, their job is to make games, no matter how bad they are doing, I am pretty sure they will do a better job of direction than LA.....  Maybe LA learned a lesson from SWG, and even if they have the power to make BW do a big change, they will refrain from doing so.....But this is the guy that keeps retouching his 30 year old movies....

I tried telling them back then Smed would sell his mom for a buck, but they would have nothing to do with it. Not many actually would  put blame on LA(save a superniceguy....but lets be real here). At least you see the issue.

 

I seriously doubt LA would get involved this time around. From all accounts BW didnt wanna deal with them again after KOTOR, so I am sure non interference was at least partially written into the contract this go around.

 

You are right that SWg was buggy/incomplete, and the money spent for CU/NGE could of helped. Problem being they dumped a shit ton in that game as well. There was no excuse for the way it shipped. Hell if Raph would of spent less time worrying about role play aspects, and actually added some good PVE in, the game would of gone over MUCH better IMO.

 

I would prefer TOR be set in the OT timeline, but I am thankful I got a SW PVE experience this time around. Kostor didnt care about our money last go around.

Sorry. I dont agree with your assessment. I dont disrupt their live game forums, and after yrs of the BS, it is simply calling a spade a spade.  The minute I show up in the EVE forums campaigning cause it doesnt have something I like, or spamming the AA/Repop forums for not planning to include the things I want, then feel free to call me out.

 

Like I have said many times....I have no problem with constructive criticism. The behavior from these individuals is nothing short of disruptive at best, and flat out trolling at worst.

You keep pointing your finger at these random people who have disrupted your game's forum in some way/shape/form. I don't know who they are or what they did, but every game I have ever enjoyed has been bashed or hated on by someone, you just have to move past it at some point. It's your perogative to stay pissed off at random faceless people if you want, but honestly I don't see how it will solve all that much. Sorry.

Like I said, it doesnt stop at the games themselves....the stereotypes thrown go right along with it. It is usually a daily thing.  I have been posting here 5 yrs, and it actually used to be worse around here for themepark/PVE gamers.

 

As far as some "mystery shopper", when you are around long enough on these forums, it becomes painfully obvious who is calling folks ADD/spoiled/PB Cruncher, blaming others cause their type of games wont be made,  or consistently spamming certain game forums. So fault me if you want for reminding these folks where they sit on the dev ladder, but dont discount the issue at hand.

Actually, the initial budget was never reported near 300 million, either.  It was one guy trumpeting that number over and over on a message board, an alleged former EA employee, and it was debunked countless times.

Here is the Los Angeles Times article that came out in January.  In it, the cost of production for the game was specified.  There doesn't seem to be a direct quote from anyone from Bioware/EA giving that figure, but the source for their article were people inside the company, including Daniel Erickson, Rich Vogel, and Greg Zeschuk, all with Bioware. 

"It may have been the largest entertainment production in history.  More than 800 people on four continents have spent six years and nearly $200 million creating it."

I didn't find any quote, because...wait for it...EA has never release the actual production numbers.  So I was wrong about that. I just remember the LA times article, as well as the countless marketing analysts who have estimated the costs of production between 150-200 million.  

So a few  things to gather from this:

1)  The LA times article contains direct quotes from people at Bioware, so you'd have to assume that 200 million figure came from them too, unless the Times just decided to make up that number and throw it in there.  

2)  Assuming we can't take the $200 million number seriously since it's not a direct quote from EA, how are we to take EALouse's $300 million seriously?  Or your $500 million number seriously, both of which have only ever come from ONE source each, while numerous analysts have predicted between 150-200 million spent?  

3)  Again, you created a thread throwing out this $500 million figure based on a number put out by a single person, and now you are asking for proof that the game only costs $200 million?  Isn't the burden of proof just as much on you as it is me?  I don't recall seeing any direct EA quotes in any of your links either.  

 


I never said my number was an actual number - all I said was it is speculated as in "If it is true...".  You however said you could put up an actual quote from EA/BW.   No biggy.   I know you'll never find an actual quote.    That is OK though.   We're all just guessing...but I think I am closer to the right number than some of you.  :)

I would expect a normal person to at least go the "Oops I didnt realize they were adding in BW purchase cost". Nope instead you counter the EALouse claim with oneupmanship of 65%, and try to pass it off as a legitimate conversation based on "what if".  Worse, you side step where the number actually does come from.

 

There is no "comnversation" here.....instead it is once again spam not grounded in reality.

 

 

Some SWg/sandbox fans in general indicate they want huge open worlds to build in. That isnt what this game is about though, and Alderaan is exactly the way I like my PVE worlds set up.

 

I actually wish there were some more bind stones. I dont mind traversing an area the first time, as I feel it adds to the immersion. After that the novelty is gone to me. It simply becomes a time sink.

 

I did run across some lvl 40 mobs at the far end. I am unsure what purpose they serve(highest char is 32), and they werent marked as heroic. I would like to see more planets doing this.....have content for a certain range, then add higher lvl content to get ya to come back to a planet.

 

All in all I would much rather deal with planets like this vs the open area of Tat.

Very very few problems with the actual transfers. They process very quickly. The transfers are pretty obvious. (West coast PvP servers -> to west coast pvp servers, RP-Pvp servers -> to rp-pvp servers...)

 

I think this is much better then what Rift did with the free transfers early on. All the other games I've played have always charged for server transfers or just merged servers completely.. So that's about the extent of my expirience.

 I transferred four characters in barely 5 minutes. For me it hasn't been an issue.

KT the issue once again was communication. They must have Ohio State folks informing the community. We hear about the minor stuff, but the major things are hidden so deeply it takes a Freedom of Information request to get to the heart of the matter.

 

I am of the same mind though when it comes to the actual transfers themselves....my characters were there faster than I could get logged in.

How?!?!?!For goodness sakes when you start the game there is a huge flash add and at this present time it has links all over the place directing you to the website with all the info on transfers.

I swear talking about TOR is like trying to convince people the ocean isn't on fire.  If as a player you like the game but are sick of playhiing with low populations why or how is it going to hurt to actually search for the only relevant information "is my server active in this transfer process and where can I go".

Honestly all that other stuff I keep hearing people talk about like will you be able to trasfer later and all that other crap is simply being used as an excuse to continue to have something to bitch about as far as this game goes.

Most of the other games I've played that went through server issues seemed to take months to years to even impliment server transfers if they ever did it.

That is it.....the information is scattered all over, and that is when it is available.

 

There was no clear plan of what servers would be moved this week. Instead folks were left guessing. I am a huge BW fan, but damn you gotta call the good with the bad.....and communication has been bad. The actual move itself went smooth, and I have indicated as such.

The site dev gave my personal info to  a certain clown, and he used it to contact my teenage kid on facebook. That fruit cake finally did a disappearing act after the bomb threat vs SOE fanfaire, but it doesnt change the fact that this happened to me for reading an article there that was linked from this site.
