The graphics are good if the only thing you ever look at is the landscape.
Spell effects are some of the worst I've ever seen. Character animations are some of the worst I've ever seen. These things all fall under the umbrella of graphics, which is why anyone who says this game has good graphics needs to have his/her head examined. |

Performance, even though it is a big problem, is the least of Vanguard's problems in my opinion.
The article is spot-on in pointing out the numerous design flaws. This is by far the most honest review of this game I have ever read. |

Originally posted by Arcken See, this is a common source of misunderstandings in the world, the tendency to believe that everything is about YOU. No one -- I repeat, NO ONE -- is trying to dissuade you from anything. If you like Vanguard the way it is, more power to you. You can play it from now until the day you die, and it won't make a bit of difference to anyone posting here. People post criticisms of this game not because they want to ruin your fun, but for several other reasons: First, they want Sigil to know why they are dissatisfied. How else will the game improve if the developers don't know what's wrong with it? Second, they want to warn people who are thinking of getting the game. If those people want to believe the fanbois over the critics, then that's their problem, but at least they won't be able to say they weren't warned. It's no different than the way you might warn a friend against seeing a terrible movie. And finally, there's the matter of setting the record straight. I see all kinds of dishonest and/or incomplete reporting coming out of the fans on this board. There is nothing wrong with trying to set the record straight. As for "broken record trolling," how is posting a criticism any more a waste of time than broken record fanboyism? Neither person is playing the game or "accomplishing something positive," as you so vaguely suggest. You know what's immature? Telling someone to go away because you don't want anyone else to hear their opinion. Fans are scared to death (and rightly so) that people will read the bad news and not buy the game, and Sigil will get what's coming to them for releasing a turd. Negative comments can't ruin anyone's fun. If you find them so painful, you don't have to read them. But there are a lot of people who want to hear the bad as well as the good before they buy. |

I have news for you -- the only game whose subs Vanguard is taking away is Horizons. And I assure you, I do NOT care about that. I don't care if Vanguard succeeds, but I do have an axe to grind with people like you who tricked me into spending $50 on a coaster set. If they eventually get their act together, fine. But if you think this game is beautiful at the moment, you have very poor taste. Telling people who don't like the game to go away isn't going to save your precious game. If anything, Sigil needs the feedback so they can know why people are leaving. It's not like they have their own forums or an exit survey or anything. So in the long run, you are doing more to kill Vanguard by trying to chase away the critics than we are by posting our opinions. |

That's amusing.
A poll on this very fanboi-infested forum shows that a majority of people who bought the game will be quitting (or taking an extended break) after the free month. So even if there are a lot of n00bs signing up, it won't matter. They, too, will be gone after a month. Anyone who is rabid enough to pretend to enjoy the game bought it at launch. |

If you actually played the power set or played with someone who uses it, you'd see that it has its own drawbacks.
If you constantly compare your character to others' based on things you read OUTSIDE the game, you will never enjoy any game, ever. |

Have You Hugged a Troll Today?
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/23/07 10:48:08 AM
A troll is someone who tries to disrupt a thread by being intentionally inflammatory.
Someone who dislikes a game and points out its weaknesses is not a troll. I, for one, wish I had listened to the critics instead of the fanbois. I could have saved myself some money. |

I don't care for Vanguard at all, and it's got little to do with playability. I think the quests are very poorly written, the world construction is amateurish, the character advancement is bland, and the overall gameplay is boring as hell. Diplomacy held my interest for a few days, but that was about the only thing I found interesting.
The bugs and such were just the icing on the cake ... I've canceled and uninstalled, and I, too, think people deserve fair warning before they invest in this lackluster game. |
