Tasos may not have even flinched at a score of five or four out of 10.

The whole Eurogamer ordeal only proves the fact that Tasos loves to feed the trolls.

DF is staying popular because he's keeping the trolls nice and fat

Tasos don't care about trolls or fanboys. He just wants yer money ! The negative review(s) and Tasos reaction shows how sensitive he is.

Should have made the game better then... or been more realistic with core gameplay features. (Or maybe just update the website.. /sigh)

Tasos is that dodgy car salesman that everyone seems to have heard about...

Customer: What's that rattling?

Tasos: A feature.

Customer: And the rusting on the bonnet and driver-side door?

Tasos: Another feature.

Customer: Okay, let's see what's under the bonnet... Hey, where's the engine?

Tasos: We couldn't put in the engine before the launch date, but I promise it will be there soon.

Customer:On second thought, I don't think I want this car anymore.

Tasos: Hey, you asked for a car; you're getting a car here, aren't you? I'll tell you what: just give me the money for the car now, and today you can take it from us, but you'll have to bring it in to the garage every day for tune-ups, servicing, and 100-point safety checks.

Customer: As tempted as I am, I think I'll just catch the bus to work from now on.

Tasos: We offer a bus service too!

Customer: Really?

Tasos: Yes. I mean, we don't actually have any buses in our fleet at the moment, but as soon as we get some the service will be fully operational!

Customer: *Sigh*

It's pretty sad to watch Tasos and Aventurine spend more time bickering about a review with ad hominem attacks than he or they seem to be spending updating their website and making a compelling case for why their game is worth playing.

When you leave the only reliable means of reporting on the state of your game up to third parties (through forums and reviews) then you don't have a lot of ground to stand on when they paint an unflattering picture.

You partisan fans...you really need to get on their case to update their site. It's pathetic in its current state.

Seconded.

It makes you wonder if Tasos would have labelled the Zurogamer review "fraudulent" if it had been a positive one. I wonder if he would have been so quick to suggest that the Eurogamer team should have used more time to get a proper feel for the game.

If he doesn't want anyone to have an opinion on the game he produced, then Aventurine probably should not have released it.

Face it, Tasos: if it's on the shelf, it's open to scrutiny. Getting all butt-hurt because someone hates it more than the others won't make matters better. If it sucks that bad, fix it so it doesn't suck [as much]!

Hmmm, interesting.

But most all of these concerns are explained thoroughly in either the game manual, or the support forums.

Apparently, the reviewer didn't even bother to check those two resources out.

If referring to the game manual or support forums is that important in learning how to play the game, given Darkfall's heavy digital distribution, perhaps Aventurine should have considered making this a point of reference before the player logs in and enters the character creation screen, and that's useful only assuming that all gamers can read properly.

Is there a 'Tutorial' section in the game? In other words, do pop-up screens appear in the introductory stages of the game with useful hints, tips, and instructions?

Actually, what Tasos has done is PR: it's called "damage control", although he's done so in a fairly childish manner. It would have been better if he said nothing at all. That way he might have saved a bit of face by not rebutting like a grade-schooler.

Completely childish and unprofessional on Tasos' behalf.

How can you expect to make your product better if you're not willing to acknowledge that some do not think the sun shines on your game's butt? Tasos only seems to welcome the warm, fuzzy, butt-powdering feedback by his legion of zealots.

If it's on the shelf, it's open to scrutiny; take the good with the bad and do what you can as a producer to ensure the bad is not said again.

Tasos, grow up!

It's a pity Aventurine couldn't find an investor willing to pump more dollars in to their project. It makes you wonder why they couldn't find one. Curious.

Because after all the failed so called AAA MMORPG's these last years, the MMO market is completely screwed up.

Add the global economic crisis to it and you got your answer.

The global economic crisis has only occurred within the last year, and that's a generous timeframe. How long has Darkfall been in development? A good part of the decade? Please, "global economic crisis" is a lame excuse.

Wow, nerd rage ftl!

Anyway, I just feel sorry for those thousands of hopefuls that missed-out on a pre-order, because they're probably going to have to wait months before Aventurine has the resources to set-up a few more servers to handle the numbers. And my feeling is that the first 10k subscribers are going to be the game's lab rats: server crashes and poor latency for the first few weeks to a month, and then magically fixed by the time more servers are rolled-out. Will they have the patience to stick around until things smooth out?

First of all, I'm not a nerd and I didn't throw a "fit".  Please stay on the subject.

"Why are fanboi's saying the pre-orders are sold out?

Because they are sold out you tiny brained fucking moron."

Looks like nerd rage to me. Anyway, I did stay on-topic; did you bother to read the rest of my post?

Yes, I read the rest of your post and calling me a nerd, and saying a threw a fit isn't on the subject.  I was pointing out how moronic the person was that started that thread is, there is no rage invovled.

*Slaps forehead*

Anyway, carry-on.

I'm actually really f'ing impressed... I mocked this game for the last few years along with everyone else, but I take back everything now.

The graphics are actually pretty damn amazing with everything cranked up, not even LoTRO's DX10 shadows are this good. (Of course the water sucks as only DX9 water can, sadly)

The game play is pretty easy to get down, controls are pretty good once you get the hang of it.

Gear is so easy to come by, even with the griefing.

The company has bungled the ever living shit out of the release, you can't even try to deny that. But the game is self is pretty damn amazing and certainly worth the money if you're sick of the standard MMO clones and want something with a bit more grit to it. PvE will never be as dynamic as PvP.

Taken out, consolidated, replaced, left out.  If these terms don't set alarm bells ringing you  must be delusional.  Anyone pre ordering this game is downright foolish

lol ignorance is bliss

best game on the market right now hands down if you can stomach harsh pvp penalties and sandbox content

Darkfall is not out on the market yet. A game has to be released/live to be on the market.

tl;dr Version: Is the overwhelming attention given by sites such as this giving DF a trashy bunch of newcomers that will force Aventurine to release the game early even if it needs more time going to ruin the game? In my opinion this was the case of AoC, except AoC always wanted that attention, when DF doesn't.

If Aventurine are going to release a crappy MMORPG or a feature-incomplete release client, then they only have themselves to blame. History is today's best teacher.

I see the logic here: it means, therefore, that games that have no forums have no subscriber-base what-so-ever... Genius!

Three days running and still no Darkfall forums.

Fail.

Not "when"... "if".

Let's just say I feel sorry for those not playing in the beta right now.

Why?

The "free trial" will be pushed-back by a week and the eventual commercial release of Darkfall will slide to mid-March.

Yes, I'm being generous.

Actually, ESRB is not just an American thing. Australia and Europe both use a very similar and uniform system as we Americans.

US = ESRB

Australia = OFLC

EU = PEGI

Similar is not the same.
