I love Dragon Age, finally a good proper RPG with a decent story and interesting characters! I've been waiting for something like this for years now. Planescape torment is probably my favourite game all time, but this one is pretty close. But what will probably keep me playing this game for years is the toolset, hopefully the community will be like that for Neverwinter nights!

Well, it's a game meant to simulate life in roman times. But as for you, this was rather boring to me as well. To get a decent population they have to popularize the experience a little and make it more of a game and less a roman time simulator. So I would say your review is pretty much spot on. Besides, there are no excuses for a poor UI.

Vanguard rivers has currents, just saying.

If the vast majority of people are still soloing, I would say the compensation for grouping is not adequate in that game.

In EQ and DAoC I would say the vast majority grouped, because the compensation was adequate in those designs.

And that is EXACTLY your problem spelled out right there.  You want such absurd rewards for grouping that NO ONE will solo!  You are trying to bribe others to group, you're not interested in your own fun, you're interested in making everyone else do what you want to do!

The fact is, if you want to group, then you shouldn't require any compensation to group.  It should be something you do regardless of the negative aspects because that's how you have fun.  The fact that you want extra goodies for anyone who groups shows that you're not being honest about your argument.  You don't want compensation because you enjoy grouping you want compensation because you're trying to force the majority of players to do it.

At least TRY to be honest here.

Simply not true. Although much harder, people did solo EQ and DAoC.

Why would the group content  be fun, if you lower the challenge until it's pointless?

True, I mostly solo but still enjoyed both EQ and DAoC. I bet 90 % of the MMO-population are both soloing and grouping at times. The devs just need to find a good balance as to how they reward the different playstyles. Besides, there are loads of ways to play solo and still be part of the in-game community. If the OP does not understand that he is the one with problems (which he obviously has with his sick sick sick comments).

I don't even know why I still read and comment on these threads, they are getting a tad boring.

Isn't games about enjoyment and relaxing after a hard day at work (or school)? Sure there must be challenges in the game, but why bore a lot of people when games are supposed to be fun?

They surely are!

And what I find relaxing with Aion is that  I don't have to race to the top. Because most of the players are playing the same pace I'm playing and every level feels like an accomplishement.

To take this into the game world, I'm pretty glad I don't have to build new equipment set every day (because of the slow levelling).

Great, and like someone else said "fun" is different to each of us. The thing I have a hard time understanding is how some people equal grind=challenge/difficulty.

I'm in Sweden, no lag whatsoever!

You who get lag, do you have decent computers? Just to make sure it is lag you get and nothing to do with poor computers...

Population?

I miss all players that quit the MMO I currently play, makes for an emptier world which is never good.

I play from Sweden and so far I have had no lag issues at all, none!

Bugs, I keep seeing in general chat that a lot of people are experiencing problems with getting credit for finished quests. I haven't had this or any other problems myself yet.

Overall I think it is a pretty solid launch, much better than, for instance, Vanguard which I personally thought was playable even on release (just so you know where you have me).

Thanks, those were good informative answers!

True, but videos can be made in a lot of different ways and they do not always show the actual experience you get from playing the game. Also, there can be a lot if chooseable settings within a game.

I was hoping for someone who has played the game to answer this question, I really don't feel this is a question that should be answered with "go google it".

I'm very interested in the setting of FE, but I have a few questions on movement and how you play the game.

Is it fps-like movement in first person and with mouselook (or whatever it is called when you turn with the mouse)?

Or is it more like it is in most MMO:s?

Or is it like in original EQ when you move in first person but you can still play without mouselook?

It's just that I get motion sick from fps-games, so this would be a gamebreaker for me...

Fallen Earth: It's a sandbox game where you progress your character over months of gameplay and you can group, form guilds, eventually build towns, and the game will continue to have new content added and grow like any other sandbox MMO.

Fallout 3: You play through the story and return the game to the rental store.

My short time with FE was enjoyable and I plan on supporting the devs later on (busy with Eve atm). As for FO3 the game for me atleast was amazing and the only single player rpg I've played more (in the last few years) has been mass effect.

I don't know anyone who just played FO3 to the end and sold it off. Most people are still messing with it since its release.

Damn thing has more content and replay value than most themeparks on the market.

When I finished the story the game was *over*. It didnt let me continue on like in Oblivion. I didn't feel like starting over..

Sorry to continue off topic. But the ending problem in Fallout 3 is easily fixed, either with a community made mod or with one of the official downloadable expansions (which also rasises the level cap to 30, another thing you could also opt to get through a mod if you so wish).

I voted for EQ2 as it is now, meaning very fast. But, and that is an important but, with the option to turn off combat experience and level from quests only and still feeling that your character develops in a good way (aa-points, equipment etc.). If you could not turn off combat experience I would say EQ2 has too fast leveling.

As much as I really don't like Darkfall the way it turned out I could imagine worse things to do than making Neverwinter nights mods and pen and paper fantasies. That is proper stuff to do!

Let us know how your mods come along!

I noticed that they have given me free time on EQ2, Star wars galaxies and Vanguard. Seems like between 2-4 weeks or something like that. Good for me since I thought of coming back to either VG or EQ2 anyway (leaning towards EQ2 at the moment but might go with the station pass subscription to get them all).

Warghoul:

"LIKEWISE...some MMORPGs are region specific. In those cases, the various regional versions are simultaneously available at launch time, as well as their specific servers. The fact that there is a variance in version according to region is not hidden from the player until after purchase, but made known before the purchase occurs. Also, these regional versions are typically available in a boxed, "off the shelf" form."

That is what those of you defending AV should try to comprehend. Communication and transparence that's where AV is lacking. All else could be explained and defended if you want to stretch it, but to me it seems like they have been extremly vague and uninformative and probably with the intention of being so...

All other things considered though, it is also a gigantic mistake by AV to treat their small fanbase like this. They seemed to have a small but dedicated following, if you have that you don't anger them but try to play fairly with the customers and try to build a trusting community through them. That was their chance to slowly get a footing and the grow, the path they now have taken will lead to ruin for themselves.

Well, he didn't say anything about one or two dealbreakers but to him there are still a lot of small frustrations. The question is, does the game do enough good things for you to weigh up these small problems or does it not? I am not yet decided on this. I really like the core of VG but also suffer from small annoyances and both EQ2 and Lotro are good alternatives to me, both which are much more polished.

It is very sad that SOE does not give more resources to VG. I wonder if they are working on another fantasy based MMO to take over after EQ2 and VG or if they have turned fully towards the console and casual consumers :(

I'm also back in Vanguard for the X th time and I share some of your concerns but some of them I just can't understand.

1. Renting flying mobs is fun but maybe 4 minutes is on the short side. Only rewarding flying mounts to 24/7 players I agree with annoys me too. The blah blah blah you have to earn it does nothing for me here, they could easily have different sorts of flying mounts with different speeds etc.

2. What do you mean it is too expensive to use the riftways? Never seen this as a problem!

3. I don't have any trouble soloing which I have been doing 99% of my time since I returned (self-chosen, never tried to get a group other than at certain specific outdoor mobs and others being there at the same time). It's even easy (most of the time) to do small group quests (that is 3-dot mobs) on your own.

4. Death penalty, the penalty is much much milder now compared to launch, then it felt like a kick in your balls now it is nothing. If you die at a distant location you can even summon your corpse to where you respawned.

5. The leveling is much faster now than at launch, but I agree that it still is on the slow side for soloers (many VG-players would disagree though).

6. What I love about VG: Combat is fun, diplomacy is fun, the world is great to explore, classes are just great and diverse.

7. What I really don't like about VG: Boring crafting I much prefer for example EQ2 crafting, the game is on the grindy side of things, especially when it comes to crafting and diplomacy. Stability and this is strange because at release I had a very stable gaming experience compared to a lot of others. Ok I fell through the world twice (happened to me in DAoC as well though) but I never crashed and the game ran fine. Now though I get lots of "stuttering" and much poorer fps and even got a blue screen, also on one of my computers I can't use the riftways or maps because they just keep opening and closing like mad.

As I said very strange and it feels so frustrating since this game does so many things right and is so fun yet so frustrating...every time I load up Lotro I think to myself ohh what lovely polish compared to VG, but what a bland gameplay...yet I can't decide on which of the two games to focus on.

Or just US?

I can't imagine it will allow EU-accounts, it is a different publisher here in Europe, even if there are only about 10 players left on the english speaking servers...

Thanks for sharing this information!

Now, how SOE advertise is a real headache, all other MMOs I've been subbed to send me all kinds of come back offers, but from SOE it is deadly quiet, but still they give you free play time to try their games. Very strange way to run your services...
