Guild Wars has basically the same combat system of most MMO's click something auto-attack it and then use skills/abilities during combat.  I will say the way you can customize your character w/ different abilities and skills in GW is amazing, makes the game very fun and makes each character different (well in theory).  Honestly AoC and DDO both have a unique take on combat that more games should look to enhance.  So I'd say it's between one of those two games.

Haven't really played it much but I believe America's Army fits that.

That would be nice, I have been looking around but so far I haven't found a lot of solid information about the new classes.

I've always been a huge fan of MMO's, and I've always been a huge fan of Tolkien, and LOTR.  However I have tried multiple times to play this game and got to about level 10 each time.

I understand not having a huge emphasis on magic related classes, but it seems that cutting them out entirely has made it really hard for me to get other friends into the game for one thing.  Most of my friends play casters, and every time I try to get them to join me on the trial they all say the same thing.  How can the dev's say there is no magic in Middle Earth when the rings were magical, and there are many different examples of magic being used to a certain extent in the books.

Anyways, As to my problem.  It feels as if the combat is very slow, does the combat pick up later in the game? Or do some classes feel more responsive then others?  Also is there a way to turn the lore master into just a pet/CC class and into a nuker type role?

The game is beautiful, it is appealing on many levels, but I'm having a hard time finding the right class, or the right situation to propel me to higher levels and thus more of the game.  If anyone could give me some help, that'd be much appreciated.

lol.   I find just as many adults on XBL as I do most of the PC MMO's I've played and I've played nearly all of them.  I mean Xbox Live might have communities like the Halo one which is often times thought of as a bunch of annoying kids, but MMO's have WoW's community which isn't any better.  In fact I've been playing games for 15 years+ of my 22 y/o life.  I keep my computer up to date hardware wise, and I have a ps3 / xbox 360.  I honestly prefer my xbox over my computer anyday.  My computer is basically my way to multi-task between an mmo and doing whatever work I need done on the computer that day.  I think by 'set in stone by all 'gamers'' you mean, set in stone by you and the people who agree with you that PC's are so uber for gaming.  Really PC's do have much better hardware then an console.  PC games also die by that, like AoC as a prime example, where people with brand new 4,000 dollar computers cant play the game for whatever reason.  You never go onto a ps3 forum and have to respond to people saying will my ps3 be able to play god of war 3?   That and how many 'good' games take advantage of the PC's hardware? Crysis is really the only one I can think of, I personally think it sucks besides the graphics being pretty good, the game play is bland.  Anyways, I'm rambling I apologize. I'm going to go get much needed sleep so that I can use my day off tomorrow to play video games.

I totally agree, In my mind this game is already the game to play.   As with almost MMO it's launch has been rocky at times, but as they smooth out the game, keep updating, keep content up to date.  This game will be the MMO of this year, WAR imo is looking, more and more like a WoW clone with RvR PvP and wont have a chance.  Aion could spike up with this as well but who knows when and if it'll ever be released even in a beta form to the US.

And this has just been my take on the game... cause like you said, no huge improvement in MMO's and what did you say, the graphics are nice? LOL thanks for proving my original post. I'm just trying to sum up the game for new players looking for info on it. If you enjoy it, good for you!!

Sorry if I took it as an insult and it wasn't meant that way.  I just often times feel a lot of posters on forums tend to insult people who have different opinions then they do, and I usually just ignore it and don't care knowing that well this and other venues are for spouting what we think.    I think this game does offer some new things the combat system is very good in my opinion.  The 1-20 storyline was a better storyline or at least an attempt at a storyline then most MMO's even try to do.   However shallow it is the graphics are great, and although some people are having a lot of issues w/ bugs and glitches, I have really not had any to speak of thus far.  I was saying that there were no huge improvements prior to this.  I however believe that this game has been an improvement to the MMORPG genre, and while it might not be revolutionary to the industry in every aspect.  It's on the right track and hopefully for gamers WAR, Aion, Chronicles of Spellborn, etc., all follow in the light of this game which decided to change things that needed to be changed and leave a lot of things that were working fine to begin with.

Why do elitists like to run around and basically say this game sucks, anyone who's enjoying it is some kid who likes the mature rating and graphics.  Why you trolls seem to have some unquenchable need to degrade or insult anyone with a differing opinion then your own is beyond me.   I'm enjoying this game, I think the graphics are well done and at this point it's fresh to me, and unfortunately MMO's haven't been fresh since EQ.  I don't think AoC is the best game ever made, or anything such as that.  However to insult people who are enjoying it just because you don't is more immature then liking a game based on shallow reasons.   I'm not trying to just point out the OP I'm not even trying to smother his/her opinion into oblivion he can have it, I really don't care.  Just don't start throwing around insults for no other reason but our opinions differ and think that what you say will mean anything to me or most of the people who read it.

Well, I just went out and preordered/received a copy from (gs) , there were enough people in this thread and others that gave me a story saying that this game has improved enough that it's going to be what funcom promised and what most of us hoped it would be that I decided to give it a go.  I really think the combat at least the melee aspects of it are very well done and I enjoyed the universe they used for the game.  I dont expect a bug free game, just the beta client I played right at release of the file planet client was just bad, and hopefully the 'miracle' patches crusher and other have cited are really that because this game has potential to be great.  Hope to see you guys in game tomorrow.

processor: AMD Phenom 9600

Video Card: ATI Radeon 3600 512mb

Ram: 2gigs corsair

Sound: some cheap sound blaster card

Thats the important ones I guess, I'd post my dxdiag file but I'm at work and not on that machine.  I did build it myself and I know it's not the best machine in the world but it should be able to play most games well.

The computer I am using is a little less then three months old, with the only drawback being only 2g's of ram everything else far exceeds the minimum requirements for this game.  Yes I do realize that RAM is a big a deal, and that in the up and coming weeks I will have to upgrade to 4. but still I was very unhappy at how bad the game was at that point, the performance seemed rather bad compared to almost anything I had tried on any computer before.

I played in early may on the file planet open beta for like two days or so, I admittedly didn't a very high level only like 9 or so w/ a couple different classes so my experience with the game wasn't too much, however it wasn't that good either.  From a bug stand point, the game was horrible.  Loads were taking forever, sometimes just getting the client up and running made me want to pull my hair out.  The other things I noticed mainly revolved around caster classes.  Mobs would totally ignore my pets, my spells looked very bland, I was forced to melee a lot.  So my impression of the game was more or less that this is a totally melee oriented 'action' (kinda) game that has way higher system requirements then it seems to need, and it has a ton of bugs too.  I know that after only maybe 10 hours of game play in an early form of the games client I cant make an educated opinion about what the game is or isn't.  So I'm asking if the game has really received the overhaul it needed a few weeks ago.

AoC's 'open' beta requires you to pay file planet for  it.  Unfortunately I know because I paid for a month of file planet just to play the beta.

And do you enjoy it?

I didn't enjoy it in the slightest.  However it is beta maybe it'll get better.  For the I had a choice thing, yes I did, however I did not know they were going to let everyone in even those who didnt pay for their file planet accounts my colleague at work told me otherwise and I took him for his word.   I guess my only other reply would be that I hardly ever use file planet and getting the client for AoC was in fact the only reason I paid them.  It was only like 8 bucks or something for a month so it wasnt a big deal and I wasnt trying to make it into one.  I was just merely saying that in some cases they do charge you to play in open beta's.  Apparently I was wrong becuase they let everyone else in later.

I think we all get you dont like FSS or their games, maybe you should try finding something else to do then run around the forums here and say how bad everything they do is.  The fact is most of these changes they made because the players wanted them too.

I'm not trying to be offensive and I'm sorry if you take it that way but literally every time I come to check hgl's forums or mythos's forums all you have to say is how bad everything FSS does.  I'm not trying to defend FSS I realize the launch of HGL was bad, almost vanguard bad; however I havent really had any problems w/ it recently, and this game looks like it has some potential.

I have to say, I was having problems w/ this game lately, but after defraging, and overclocking my ram I havent ran into any problems.  I'd just recommend using a real defrag program after patching HGL.  Use Diskeeper or something the windows one doesn't do anything.

I am coming back just to provide the solution that I just came across.  I found if I turn off the firewall/virus programs it dl's alot faster.  Obviously there is a port somewhere that it will want opened later on in the future, unfortunately for me I wasn't able to find the port numbers on their website or the forums anywhere.  Anyways, after turning those off the patch went by in about a couple minutes.
