R.I.P ------------- o7

sounds like fun, can't wait to get accepted into the beta :)

The Service Access Points sound kind of like fighting for mines in Shadow Bane  via a "Window of Opportunity" concept, which was both good and bad, because time zones effected everyones effectiveness to hold or gain resources. Global Agenda has a similiar system with its AVA (at least last time that I played), only they have set times when alliances can attack a hex. It's a bit more time zone friendly if the bulk of your playerbase is on during certain times, then you're always able to fight over the same map.

One thing that I did like about Global Agenda is that your numbers were restricted, and you couldn't zerg / blob, thus those type of battles were more lag friendly. Not that I don't like big battles or anything, as long as skill and strategy still play a factor over sheer numbers.

Are there any restrictions on the amount of players that be involved in this?

Personally,  I kind of prefer the always vunerable approach (Like EVE). Perhaps I just  am misunderstanding  the whole mechanic  from reading your post. Can you please clarify what type of system it most resembles? Or how it's better or different than other concepts from games which we may have played in the past?

"Corporations are required to register for Intrusion events at least 12 hours before the event begins."

Does this kind of work like Shadowbane?

For example:

when another nation would drop a Bane stone on you and you had time to respond and  set a time for the event to take place?

Any corp that wants to compete to try and take the outpost during the preset intrusion time they must register 12 hours before the preset event time starts for that specific outposts intrusion timer.

No restrictions on how many can be involved on the outpost intrusion.

This is only the beginning of this game mechanic and will develop into some more in the future.

Perpetuum is a sandbox.

I have tried to get mmorpg to add this update to the news a few times but they have not done it.

You can read about the latest udpate http://www.perpetuum-online.com/Changelog:2010-07-07

Ugh.  What a miserable game EVE is.  I tried it, it wasn't fun.  End of story.  It completely lacks content, AND it encourages ganking.  Any game that actively encourages ganking is clearly catered to the lowest common denominator of gamers: the social misfits and aggressive basement dwellers.  No thanks, EVE.

Too many kids kick your sand castle down in the sandbox? We all learned to create our own content when we were kids.

It is a shame on how many people can't use their own imagination any longer to entertain themselves with the tools they are given.

... if there is nothing major to fix after this 5/21 patch then they are shooting for Open Beta to start the beginning of June.

Any update on the start of Open Beta?  Thanks.

No update on Open Beta.

Discouraging PvP in a PvP game?  Brilliant!

Can't wait until the Shooter games adopt these mechanics...

Talk about clueless

just the thing....there is next to nothing else to do in MO than "pvp" - well could hope someone could list the 100s of other things to do but last Id be in game you could kill NPCs for skill ups, gather to craft weapons/armour.....that was it...all PvP related.

as for eve only reason it doesnt need consquenses is that it takes hours to get the isk needed for a ship and get it equipped....its enough of a flagging system, which is great for eve...MO just dont have or didnt have that kind of depth

For now, lots of things are not implemented, so pretty much all there is to do is  Explore/trade/craft/PVE for skills or money (sell leather and stuff) and PVP

But mortal online is not a PVP game in a sense like darkfall or shadowbane was... is more like Ultima online (a social game, trade, craft, build houses, pve and PVP). Even the flag system is nearly identical, but no as harsh as UO was.

For a pure pvper or griefer types i think darkfall is much better.

MO, UO or even xzyon, have the open pvp but thats not the focus of the game, the focus is diversed playstyles...so theres a system to protect other playstyles.

hardcore pvpers tend to think that just because the game has open pvp, its a PVP game (free for all). Darkfall is a pvp game, APB is a pvp game.. etc...

Whaaaaaat, not a PVP game???? Can I have some of that wicked weed you are smokin??

What happens when your ship is blown up in PVP and even PVE?

I'm having a wonderful time in Perpetuum right now.

The UI could use a scaling feature and the tutorial needs work (we discussed that already) but other than that its bloody fantastic.

Some people have complained about the graphics, I believe they're low quality to keep the battles large scale.

I like the look, then again I play in Iso view so i can fully see the terrain so graphics dont matter much to me.

Edit: If any Perpetuum devs happen to come across this thread I would like to suggest a slide bar for actual robot textures in the video options menu. I play on a low end system, I keep terrain on medium and shadows, effects on off/low.

It would make a big difference for lower end users if we could increase the textures on our robots yet still keep the other settings down. I do this in Eve where i put ship textures on high and the rest on medium/low and the game still looks great and works fine.  Anyway... just a suggestion.

Post any suggestions you have on the official game forums.

Gremrod, you seem to be the man with the 411 on perpetuum so let me ask.

Will Perpetuum have some form of "High Sec" area in the game similar to Eve?

Im asking because it may be a deal breaker for me if theres no option to play in a consentual (mostly) area of the game.

I like how Eve gave people the option to play in a safer area even if it was only about 30% the size of the entire game.

I honestly think a lot of sandbox games are failing right now because they overlook what a High sec area could do to a game.

Eve wouldnt be here today without it.

Perpetuum already has what you would call "high sec" This area are the inner islands which, there are three of them are like high sec. No one can openly attack you unless you manually flag your self for PVP or shot someone else who has flagged themselves for PVP.

So the three inner islands are totally safe unless you do either of the two things I mentioned above. And of course both are player choice.

No OB exact date has been set. It was mentioned that they would shot for June. We will see how it goes and I will keep everyone up-to-date with news about it.

well, that depends, some people who signed up a while ago have ep gaining since then, and thus have a large amount to start with, if you registered now and got in i don't think you would have much to start with.

That is correct. Those that are new and find that much EP, mean their account was register some time ago. If you register now you will not see a large EP pool like that.

If you have not gotten accepted yet just hang in there.............. :)

You can check out features of the game on my blog. http://gremrod.wordpress.com I cover the production, mining, etc.

@rubydragon5 They unlock accounts since the game is still Closed Beta. The accounts get unlocked in waves.

Just an update the new players can't be griefed by stealing from their loot cans. The cans are secure for a specific amount of time and then open for others to take from them if the owner left them and the timer has ran out.

Hmm... EVE's system is quite better... if someone bullies/griefs you stealing your cans you can just hotdrop a few buddies on him and police will consider it a "legitimate defense" action.

It's a nice middle way between "you can grief without consequences" and "you cannot grief at all".

EVE's PVP and griefing system is actually quite well thought out and caters to pretty much all play styles, from Carebear to Killer.

Few other PVP MMO's achieve a similar balance hence they don't have 300K subs.  One thing is certain, unrestricted ganking (especially if the victims have no chance to fight back) leads to very low sub numbers. (or cash in your shop)

Developers of this game do well to remember this.

I know there's a market for the "hardcore" PVPer, but its a small market in the long run.

And to the GM who said why would they restrict game play in a sandbox, the real world is the ultimate sandbox and its full of restrictions to the gameplay.  Sure,we have PVP combat, but only according to a certain ruleset, at certain times, and those who break those rules face harsh consequences. (such as permadeath)

MMO's really shouldn't be that much different.

Yes, Perpetuum will need to be live first and have a lot of subs and more islands before then make the same type of setting of open griefing type system EVE has....

Yes, I would like to see Perpetuum move more towards the type of system where loot cans are open to everyone and the player has a choice to steal or not and if the player steals he flags to the owner of the can. But for now it is what it is....

You do realize you're in a beta right?  I'm still waiting for my invite but betas are testing stage.  Who cares if there are griefers in the game?  It's not the first game to have it; Mortal Online, Darkfall have noob zone griefers.  At least Mortal Online has a system set up to where if you're being attacked then you can call the guards.  I'm actually looking forward to a mech mmo but until I get a beta to see the game in it's current state and see what's being planned for it I will hold judgment.

You forgot to mention that those other mmo's you mentioned all failed as games and most likely will endup shutdown before the end of the year. So I don't think it would favor your point to use them as examples, heh. Games that favor pure pvp and griefing, fail, period.

On a side note, is there not an NDA with all the info that has been talked about by supposed beta testers and GM's here? lol

No NDA on Perpetuum.

cool I am tired of care bear sissys being allowed in games. oh now, this game is killing me stop it, oh no theres a death penalty all I want is a button I press that tells me I am special.

It kind of depends on if noobs get the chance to learn to play the game. If their time gets wasted too much by getting killed time upon time because of some corpsecampers, the game will suffer in subs.

This has nothing to do with carebear or being 'tough' in a game.

Just an update the new players can't be griefed by stealing from their loot cans. The cans are secure for a specific amount of time and then open for others to take from them if the owner left them and the timer has ran out.

Some of these types of griefing has spawned a few thread on the game forums. Remember the game is beta and things have to develop as the game moves forward into Open Beta and Release.

Hope to see everyone interested in the game come and check it out when it goes Open Beta.

This is a a pretty compelling sandboxy project. Me like.

Discovery of a new planet and source of energy, of which is being capitalized by a synthetic, robot-like life form. Their technology and resources are the goal of humanity's new conquest.  I like conquest. . .I like mechs and broad and deep game-play avenues on one persistent, non-instanced planet.  Formable terrain by military, agricultural and corporations.

Dynamic environment...nice...player-driven economy and corporations that can set up military and police networks to drive their expansion...pretty much players develop the content?

To me this looks like the ground version of EvE, it could be very promising, I do get the feeling that is will play the same as EvE with ground combat insted of space.

Yes, it will play a lot like eve in certain ways. But there are some differences with the active movement with W,S,A,D and a few other mechanics that are different.
