aoe death explosions.

kill one guy in that "blob" of robots and watch the domino effect happen.  One robot blows up killing a nearby wounded robot causing it to blow up, both explosions kill a nearby half health robot, the combined 3 explosions blow up the next 10 robots at 75% health and the combined explosion damage now kill anyone who isnt 100% and heavy armor ect.

Being in a blob is very dangerous in this game.

That is exactly what eve needed years ago, i tried to get into PO last year but it wouldnt take CCs or i couldnt get past the loading screen or something, probably will check it out now.

They take CCs now. Not sure about loading screen issue....

Seeing as I work in a field were you have to sign non-competition agreements or not get hired, I will say this. They are frivalous and usually end up getting thrown out of court in the US. In other countries they don't, but in the US many have tried to use them against employess and failed. NCSoft hopefully isnt going to go into this battle with just that against them or they will lose. BTW, in the US non-competition agreements go against ammendment rights that is why they get thrown out. Read through one and you will see.

This ^^. I have had to sign them too. And have taken them to lawyers and they said the same thing. They don't hold up....

I would recommend anyone that is interested in the game to give the trial a try. Also I have started a new player corp in the game to help players new to the game. We accept trail accounts into the corp.

Once in game join the "PPAT Public" channel.

The game will not go completely "open", until some time in the future, most likely next year as was mentioned.  For the time being though, it is more or less going to work like the gmail system did initially.

This being that a there may be a few more invite waves, but the majority of invites will be those invited through the use of beta keys that will be distributed by those currently testing FF.  It will then continue this way until the people at Red 5 feel that it's better to just open it up to everyone.

One of the only problems with this approach is the fact that those already beta testing the game that get keys to send to another person are not doing it.

They are selling the keys. Just google it.!

While growing slow, the game has a great community.

Yes the game's graphics engine is getting an overhaul.

I like to play games mainly for their mechanics. But I agree the look is what first grabs your attention and some tend to fell the game's graphics are a bit dated.

The game does have a 15 day trial. I would recommend anyone who likes FFA PVP loot, sandbox games with player driven politics, market, and industry to check it out!

your best off buying the security FOB for 4 bucks.

Honestly, I find it hard to take people seriously who think that TOR's PvP is actually balanced. One only has to look at the charts to see the same 3 classes dominating over and over. Sorc, Assassin, Sniper. Over, and over.

I've also noticed that classes tend to do better in different pvp maps (which is fine), but since the only warzone that Qs most of the time is huttball, you get the above result. It is a very unfriendly map towards melee players. It is FAR too easy to toss off melee players like they are nothing. It does start to get a little bit better around 20-30, but then it gets even worse after that, as the above classes get even more insane DPS, CC, and Utility/Survival skills.

While it's true that it's possible to top the charts with any class, this doesn't mean the game is balanced. If you have evenly skilled players on both sides, see which ones come up top most often. The only real difference is as it gets closer to endgame, Juggs start to creep up in there, as they can be very good for objectives, and you can guard spam people for support contribution points, while they also have some pretty decent dps for a tank class.

Basically, just look at the skills. Ranged classes have dps, cc, and many also have heals / utility. melee have damage, almost no cc, and a little utility (much of which have longer CDs). I can't even count the number of times I've been CCed to death as a melee character (even popping the 2min CC breaking skill doesn't matter much). The survivability / damage that SHOULD make up for this offset just isn't really there.

The game is most definitely balanced around PvE, and NOT PvP. This is already an issue, but since PvP isn't really being focused on atm, it will be on the backburner for a while until more people start to participate this (especially @ endgame).

Don't most games have to go through some type of balancing after launch anyways? I am sure it will work out at some point and other classes will start to shine in pvp too.

Most fun I have had in a themepark mmo in a while.

nice vid.

This is what the MMOs have come to. You can quote me if you want.

People want to play their game without being bothered by the other players in the game.

It just shows that Bioware does not like mmos, never wanted to make one and was persuaded to make their next KOTOR game into a mmo just in order to get at those juicy subs.

From all that game offers it is becoming blindingly obvious that Bioware just tacked on a bare minimum of features to be able to call it a mmo with a straight face while they would have been much happier to be making a single-player game, something which they understand and are good at.

This.

A friend showed me 30 minutes of TOR. Its not an MMO. Its multiplayer, but not an MMO.

"People want to play their game without being bothered by the other players in the game."

Lolololol. Are we in the twilight zone here?

I have to disagree with the terms use here and saying it is not a MMO. It is a MMO, but they did cater to the single player role a bit too. But those players will still need to interact with other players if they want to run the flashpoints etc.

So I think TOR is an MMO that happens to have other aspects of a single player game built into it. I have to say this is the first time I have paid attention to the story in a MMO. but lets face it this is what US themepark MMO games have become...... I like to jump into these style of games from time to time. But the sandbox games always call me back.

my 2 cents.

Old eve player (biomassed my guy in 2009)/forumwarrior here.

For the PO/Eve players, my biggest complaint about EVE is everyone is a giant puss, and afraid to fight cause it hurts too much.  So you get this constant lopsided gank-fights, blobs, or just have to sit around waiting for enough people to log in to do anything in nulsec. Similar in PO?

Here is a a mechanics question, my second biggest complaint and constant suggestion to the eve community was the ability for large groups of players ( when they aren't lagged to frack) was having dozens of people lock onto a single target.  I always enivsioned a dice roll for multiple target aquisitions to help mitigate insta-pops followed up by a skill tree etc, so that if say 15 people locked you only 3-4 would get it on the first try.  ANything like this in PO?

No there isn't anything in PO that specific a long the lines of combating insta pop. But the game does have mechanics in place  that make locking a bit longer time wise etc for those that are blobbed or stacked up.

The game tries to break the blob up a bit. Not saying it does break the blob up totally. Also there is explosion damage from bots and mechs blowing up around you. This also encurages the blob to spread out.

I hope this helps you out a bit.

"Early Game Access* for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is only a few days away! Starting December 13, 2011, The Old Republic will begin emailing invitations to start your Early Game Access. Invitations will be sent throughout the Early Game Access period offering rolling access to the game in the order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code, so be sure to check your email inbox!" - http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20111207

From what I get when I read that, it means they will start sending emails out on the 13th until the 15th letting the people that did pre-order get in game on and between the 13th to the 15th. You will receive an email in order which you redeeemed your game code.

I don't think they plan to open the doors and flood the servers all at once on the 13th. Sounds like they are taking an approach of let people in over time from the 13th to 15th. I am sure this also lets them gauage wether or not they should stand up new servers etc for possible hellish login que times.

As long as devs will 'listen' to the players, there is no hope for this game.

Then there are games developed that don't listen to their player base like SWG and look what happened to it.........

I second that DrDream!

Not when Eve started...tutorial sucked.  It is only in recent years they fixed it up.

That may be true, since I didnt play Eve until about a year ago. But I cant imagine it being as bad as PO. The game may shine later in the game, but if you cant implement, what should be the easiest part of the game, than you cant expect to have a high population if you cant keep interest.

I know PO had offered a beta, but I question how many people were allowed, played the beta, or did they not listen to the community and the developers just did things on there own. I can see if the devlopers had no issues with the beginning since they built the game and already have the knowledge to get from point A to B since it would be like second nature to them. Thats the same with anything we do. A person who builds PCs may think its common sense that you can have the greatest video card in the world but with a lower end CPU that it would hinder performance or be a bottleneck compared to a higher CPU. While someone who is inexperienced and learning on there own probably wouldnt think of that. Maybe in the months to come they can beef it up just a little. I do like the idea of mechs fighting for control, but this game has some fixing to do.

I have played EVE since beta.  Yes it was that bad to begin with..lol  EVE is around and doing as well as it is today due to a dedicated community along with a smart devs/publishers.  The idea of EVE was always great and they made it happen.

I think this is what will happen with Perpetuum. It will grow with the help of the community and devs that listen.

I would say that the two biggest reasons for it are:

1. No solo content. I know its an "MMO" group or GTFO, but the game needs something to do alone.

2. They nerfed the hell out of being able to make money reliably. Unless I want to be bored out of mind, I can't just spend a few hours online and grind up some cash. Make some fun PvE!

Yes, they are working on changes for the assignment system. Plus they ahve the artifact system in game which can be done solo.

With the new loot system you can make pretty good money plus you will have some kernels to sell also.

M2S killed it with the insurance scam, kiting themselves out in endless robots with full t4 / t4 proto gear. Simply taking the cash from those exploiting assholes went nowhere near far enough as the 'damage' lay in *all* of their assets (and likewise those other asshats who exploited). Unless the devs were to do a wipe / reboot, there just isn't any way I'll be back or many of my friends.  No-one likes a playing-field where the odds are heavily stacked against you.

Everyone else playing the game seems to be fielding stuff and fight M2S still. I don't think the insurance fruad had that large of an impact. Plus what about all the material they bought from people on Alpha. Those people lose their nic too?

TBH, if you looking at help chat or general chat and going by those numbers for your current number of online players you are incorrect in using that number.

The user graphic shows a different story of number of players online.

Yes, I agree the population is low, but the game is not dead.

Would help if you posted a graph that was from release to current dates rather than 2 days only.

If they had one I would.
